Nar Nightlife Event Updates 2024

Recommended Posts

  • Dev Post

Hello folks!

Nar Nightlife is back tomorrow! This time around we made some adjustments to how the machines work and how the Lucky and Good Karma buffs affect your plays. Previously, players could get in a loop where they spend chips only to be rewarded more chips and it resulted in longer play sessions of just spinning machines. Our goal with the below changes is to improve the Nar Nightlife experience by reducing the amount of time it takes to play and win prizes with the slot machines.

  • Previously Lucky and Good Karma were awarded alongside winning some Chips, however they will now be rewarded sometimes with what was originally considered a loss. This will make the buffs a little bit rarer.
  • Any Win or Jackpot on Kingpin’s Bounty or Emperor’s Grace will remove Lucky and Good Karma.
  • Lucky and Good Karma will increase your odds of winning on Kingpin’s Bounty. Good Karma will increase your odds even further than Lucky.
  • Lucky and Good Karma can stack on Emperor’s Grace Slot Machines to increase the chance of winning all the way to 100%.
  • It’s now possible to lose on the Emperor’s Grace machine, however the Max Bet cannot lose. Max Bet instead increases the chance of a Jackpot win (any non-certificate drop) with the buffs.
  • Kingpin’s Bounty and Smuggler’s Luck Max Bet machines have much lower loss rates than previous years, the Emperor’s Grace Max Bet still has no chance of losing, and all machines are less likely to reward more chips.
  • Chip wins from machines are now variable, and may be the following:
    • Smuggler’s Luck = 1 Smuggler’s Luck Chip or 1 Kingpin’s Bounty Chip.
    • Smuggler’s Luck Max Bet = 5 - 15 Smuggler’s Luck Chips or 1 - 2 Kingpin’s Bounty Chips.
    • Kingpin’s Bounty = 1 Kingpin’s Bounty Chip or 1 Emperor’s Grace Chip.
    • Kingpin’s Bounty Max Bet = 5 - 10 Kingpin’s Bounty Chips or 1 - 2 Emperor’s Grace Chips.
    • Emperor’s Grace and Emperor’s Grace Max Bet no longer will award Chips of any kind.
  • Lucky will increase your odds of winning on Smuggler’s Luck machines like normal.

Some other broad changes we’ve made to the event:

  • We’ve added some Conquest objectives related to the event.
  • New Achievements have been added to previously released item drops.
  • The Shady Gambler and Double Agent dyes have been added to the Golden Certificate vendor. These were originally Cartel Market dyes that had previously been retired.

Thank you for taking the time to read these changes, we have a lot of future plans for this event in the longer term future so stay tuned for updates.

So, in short:

  • lucky is rarer
  • we made emperor's grace worse, and sold the solution back to you for the low low cost of spamming the smuggler's luck machine for 2 minutes PER EMPEROR CHIP.
  • the most terrible investment in SWTOR history is marginally less terrible, but still has exactly 0 unique rewards. what was the point of this again?
  • we turned a gambling event into a bigger achievement grind. for some reason. and there will probably be a bug with it that we'll fix the week after the event ends.
  • and the ONLY good change, adding more rewards for those worthless golden certificates. Thanks, I guess?

RIP nightlife I guess.

I'm so glad we are making gameplay adjustments to slot machines.

I'm so glad we aren't adding multiplayer content to the game.

Maybe you can get a new Flashpoint for Christmas.

Sounds like boycott for me Willis....

Instead of giving much more new rewards each year, you are only giving one stupid new helmet as "new content" and making all the process far much worse....

Guys you really hate this game and your jobs.

Good i don't need anything else from this event.

What about better fixing all the bugs in the game? Lets say operations bugs, and let's mention only one, when doing EV if one dies on second boss there's no way to revive cause all the options are grey, the only way is to leave the group and being reinvited again.  What about fixing that?

and let's add another annoying one, why not?, The EULA on Steam each time i play the game i have not only to introduce a new password (if my ip was changed by my ISP) but accept the EULA terms, each single time, when one is raiding and get DC from server because power failure coming back to the game all those steps are a real PITA for the player.

Feedback: I'm unsure why the changes :( It seemed to be working fun/well last year without causing any detrimental effects to the economy or greater game.

That's true. You can get in loops. But it seems like the changes will result in generally just more losses and not more wins? I guess we'll see!

I also would like to note I have less credits that previous years due to the successful anti-inflation measures, so I'm not sure I will be able to play the expensive credit machines lol!

That is, once again, casino event "Chip" will need to be searched for by the characters you played on and remember where everything is, instead of the system being remade as “bound to LEGACY”. Could the farming system be friendlier/easier? Apparently not.

not sure how this is a determining factor between the guaranteed drops of chips in fps/ops and the moderately common random drops of chips from mobs in the open world

i haven't spent a single credit on nightlife in quite a number of years

wasn't the good karma buff removed when switchting planets? So there have to be max bet machines in nar shaddaa i guess.

But i do not see where this changes is for the better for the players. (as always with swtor). To bad. I was looking forward to the event but because there are no new items I will not bother playing at all 🙃

Yes I agree, while they added 1 new Reward, sure 2 (retired) perhaps, many were hoping for at least 3+ new ones.

  • Developers need to keep the Events Fresh, adding several new Rewards each year.
  • Yes, people spoke of new Achievements, perhaps expanded Lore, &/or expand Missions--Bounty Hunter for example.
  • Or alternatively a different Life Day Mission, some tired of Hugging Wookies for example.  ;)

It doesn't always require a lot of work changing what's already done, just slightly expanding achievements, add a few missions, & rewards mostly.

Update Bounty Hunting Event - Suggestion Box - SWTOR | Forums

More Substantial Missions For The Life Day Event? - Suggestion Box - SWTOR | Forums

New 'Gree' and 'Rakghoul' Event Weapons, Armor, and Other Rewards - Suggestion Box - SWTOR | Forums

These are just very recent examples in these forums, ...

---------------------------

Update: Added bullet point 2 & 4 in my opening thoughts; and clarified point 3 specific to Bounty Hunter.

New Featured Reward: Nar Shaddaa Nightlife / Les nuits de Nar Shaddaa / Nar Shaddaa-Nachtleben - In-Game Events - SWTOR | Forums

  • High Stakes Squadron Helmet (new) -- while there was a new reward, most hoped for a bit more!
  • Granted there was the 2 Cartel Dyes that were retired, yet still not entirely new.

Lots of other threads like these with very similar themes:

  • Mostly to summarize, is that many Events all 10+ years old haven't added, Rewards in 10+ years.
  • Yes, people mentioned a few new Achievements, perhaps also expanded Lore, &/or adding 1 more Weekly Mission for many; to expand the story slightly...

Adding new missions wouldn’t even be that hard. They could be exploration missions given through “dropped” data pads that players have to find, and those datapads can disappear when the event does. No voiced dialogue would even be required. Here are a few examples.

BBA week:

Datapad location: Starfortress or outside of the bunker of the planet it occupies.

Mission: Named NPC (deceased ) is contracted to kill all four named Paladins on that station. Complete the contract for its reward.

Life Day:

Datapad location: at the entrance of an operation.

Mission: “Holiday Dare” throw a snowball at the operation boss and live to tell the tale. (Kill the boss while the snowball effect is applied)

Gree Event:

Datapad location: pvp area

Mission: “combatant analysis” fight and kill 20 players in duels or PVP. (Players killed in the gree pvp area count as 5)

The new rewards would be even easier. Just add reskinned armor with metallic and matte colors/dyes applied to them. Sell them at double or triple the event currency. You could also sell weapons with turnings already applied. (It wouldn’t be a bad idea to have armor display decorations of the armor you add as well)

Still not putting the coins in Legacy. Great sounds like I will be doing a lot of losing with these changes. I pulled out my spreadsheet and noted which characters still have coins on them.

My guess is that someone on the team heard the phrase "casino always wins" and decided that it should apply to this event as much as possible.

Last year they introduced those max bet machines that would never return you the full price of the token and were basically intended to lose your tokens as fast as possible, this year they nerfed the lucky buffs and make you lose your emperor chips without winning anything. The whole 7.x is a story of making the game more grindy and less fun, so to quote an earlier comment

Sorry..This is the next Activity you have ruined. We can win only one new Helmet....wow you did the absolute Minimum.Drop chances changed for the worse...of course...you can now lose on the Emperor machines. I really don't know who comes up with such brilliant ideas. I really enjoyed playing the Nightlife event, but I'm out here. If you want to turn the game off, then just do it, but don't annoy all the players with such crap

I appreciate the team looking into event balancing as time progresses but I think this one's a swing & a miss. The new balancing of the Night Life event is, for lack of a better word, bad.

Emperor's Grace tokens cost 7.5mil but if you don't win the jackpot, you get the same reward you might get for hitting the jackpot on the Smuggler machines that cost 5k to roll. With 60mil credits in various chips, I got to spin the Emperor's Grace twice. I won a pet (jackpot) and two Golden Certificates. I earnt more for less on the Kingpin machines. Such might be the nature of gambling, but it does make the event feel extremely unfulfilling.

Also, not sure if this will be a controversial opinion but given current deflation, the cost of Emperor's Grace tokens seems a little excessive. For casual players especially. The event has always, rightfully, been a credit sink but with trade chat pretty barren and the gtn quiet too, selling is a race to the bottom on prices & no one's making nearly as much profit as they did months ago; the cost of Night Life chips feels a little stuck in the past.

If you kept some unused (to sell or such) weapons, just mail them to yourself, it will count

Did the cheevo the week they released it : https://www.zupimages.net/up/24/28/xmgr.png

Really?  The achievement says win but I'll give it a try.

EDIT: It worked.  Thanks.  The achievement is really worded badly though:

armory.jpg.738e61a39fc0b51ac3410a61619f60bf.jpg

In one place it says "Collect" in the title but then it says "Win" on the individual ones.

don't think it's wording, they just didn't plan at all that we can get them like that.

They're used to make old players suffer (self-censorship here) when they add new cheevos for things we already farmed. They did the same thing with the wookiees hugs: one year, they added a 1500 hugs cheevo after we completed the 1000 hugs cheevo the previous year and it wasn't the same counter so we had to do it all over again (a.k.a 2500 in total) while new players just had to do the 1500 hugs (which would obviously validate both 1000 and 1500 hugs cheevos). Thank goodness there are workarounds

Well, looks like another event ruined.

So far I've won barely anything compared to previous years. I'm really not sure why you feel the need to make things worse for players. You keep making changes that are unwanted and unasked for.

I really had a lot of hope when the people running the game changed as well, but it's even worse.

Hoping you'll do an emergency patch to remove your 'improvements' since there's not a single person posting here, in the game itself, or on reddit saying your changes are good.

A quick patch to remove the changes would actually show us you're listening and care about the playerbase. The sad thing is, I know this will be just shouting into the wind.

since broadsword took over, you have become far worse at respecting your playerbase's time and frankly its getting pretty annoying. can that change? can the small employer base that manages this game actually give that some thought? this sucks. people bemoaned the spring events rewards because they weren't legacy bound and there was just absolute radio silence. and the posts about new management and the philosophy was also a trainwreck. like, you just have to do better. come on.
