KOTET opinion and Vette or Torian choices (SPOILERS)

Torian is head of his Clan and a powerful trusted ally of Mandal ore.

Vette is easily replaced skill set wise and she doesn't provide any influence, pull, or clout.

Choice isn't even at all. Torian wins out unless your character is selfish and puts emotion before the alliance.

I had a problem with this "choice" due to it being as contrived as it was. There was really no excuse why both could not be saved.

You had Arcann AND Senya with you. Given how powerful Arcann was, he could have easily lead the other two heroes you rescue along the way as part of the bonus mission (in my case Pierce and Kaliyo) to get Torian out. Hell, Arcann could have easily done it himself.

On top of that, you had all the other alliance forces you rescued just standing there doing nothing after you swoop in and kill all the enemies.

Bottom line, there were enough forces there to create enough of a distraction to extract Torian before Veylin even showed up.

Yeah, but that would have made sense :(

It just didn't make sense- it was just Bioware forcing a Mess Effect style Virmire choice into the game without thinking through the whole situation. It could have been written a whole lot better- something where you get separated from companions and then have the choice, or you order them to lead strike teams and one runs into trouble. There were any number of ways to make it better IMO.

My Jedi Knight saved Vette- always have to save the girl first- but I did think there would be a chance to rescue Torian. I tried to leave someone behind to get to the Emperor's Voice faster and they ended up surviving after all.

They needed a way for you the player to choose. I would have had them both in positions needing some back up to avoid casualties, but without any real immediate threat of dying, like say "If you're free, could use a hand over her." then who ever you choose, the other gets blitzed by Vaylin.

This is exactly why I just pretend a three-man team of our comps pulls together to make a couple of distractions while Torian slips away in the confusion. I mean the ME Virmire choice made sense, regardless of how we wanted it to be, but this was just stupid.

Pub side, the focus is on my Trooper and I'll most likely be saving Vette. Yes, Torian is the better warrior, but that is the point. Like a soldier, he is more likely to survive an assault than Vette. The chances of saving them both are better if you go after Vette first.

Imp side, my Inquisitor takes center stage. She on the other hand will be saving Torian. Relations with the Mandalorians are a high priority and his skills are more useful than Vette's, even if she does have some slicing skills.

With my warrior it wasnt so hard as Vette was my romance choice and all that but now im going to play kotfe and kotet with my inq and i have to say it will mostly depend on Vette how she will react to me as non warrior guy but I have kinda feeling that my inq will save Torian.

I always save Torian, with the exception of my romances SW. Two reasons why:

1) From any kind of strategic or military perspective, Torian is a far more valuable asset than Vette. Torian is a well-respected leader with substantial influence and contact with Mandalore; Vette is little more than a sassy specialist.

2) Vette was a total moron launching a solo attack behind enemy lines with a rocket launcher on the artillery. She got herself killed - might as well have just run into the crossfire.

Also although I love Vette, I love Torian even more :p

Well with my first and main Character which is a Immortal Jugg. Of course he threw Torian to the wolves. He wouldnt of lost Vette for nothing. They have been through to much together from traning on Korriban to, well KOTET, plus they are married,

Now my Very evil Sorcerer he liked Torian killing spirit.. So he could relate to him a lot better than Vette and went on a lot more missions together & they both saved each others life more than once. So when it came to the ultimatum, he chose Torian over Vette. Besides, Vette had a little smart mouth and we know what hot heads Chiss are? Now make him a sorcerer, well it = one evil SoB..........

I am currently going through KOTET with my Jedi Guardian and do not envy her, she will have a harder choice to make then the other 2 did. One that will eat at her for years to come. A kind of pain that could change you if your not strong enough.

Is the position Torian's holding a higher value target? Strategy wise that would also make it advantageous to save him.

I think his position is central to the defence of the alliance base (although I may be misremembering), so yes it is. Furthermore, you receive the distress signals after Vette has completed her mission but Torian's still trying to hold his position. So again, tactically, you should save Torian - Vette is of no foreseeable use in the battle (mission complete) but Torian (his position) remains critical, so you should relieve him.

If you choose to employ any military sense, that is.

Gotcha. Sorry, Vette. My Knight may lean toward the light, ie: save civilains; but she needs to look at the bigger picture.

it is all rather interesting....while i understand the dynamic of the choice, and the fact that to make a good story we have to accept that some time it might still have bad outcome, i guess i was expecting the game mechanics to work differently with this kind of choice.

Some one mentioned Mass Effect earlier in the thread, in ME (at least 2) the influence that you have with your companion determines the outcome (survival/death) but only if you play it right. So ...i was really expecting a set up where say : i have Vette maxed out (or high influence) and Torian average; with those stats, if i chose V first, then T dies, but if i chose T first then they both live ...i don't know if i am making sense. Any who it is what it is, just figure i throw my 2 cents in :)

I'd say this was less Mass Effect 2 choice and more of a Mass Effect 1, with Ashley and Kaiden scenario, where only one can survive, all a matter of preference. I like Vette more, so I'd pick her and I thought a Mandalorian could hold off fighters for a little longer than a thief.

I think that worst part is that we practicaly traded one lets say emotional moment for not one but two awesome companions because from what we saw before from the minute you can kill some comp or that comp can die that comp has zero impact on story so chance that either Vette or Torian will have any major role in next expansions is very slim, as i said two of the best companions in the game wont be used for story maybe you get some romance scenes but you know how it is with Bioware, why we couldnt throw Skadge there or Broonmark or that wanna be Khem who is not Khem and he never will be like Khem but because of we know what decision at inq story they cant have Khem, freaking bioware. They are giving us the most boring sterile comps to keep and those actual interesting are terminating from story and you know what happens now bioware hmm you stupid idiots hmm you just made the list.

Not necessarily true, as even though Jorgan and Kaliyo have had dramatically reduced roles, they still had roles, and speaking lines, in KOTET. That's like assuming Arcann and Senya will have no story importance for LS characters going forward just because DS characters killed them. Logically, they have to be important to the story going forward, even though there's a bigger divergence between LS and DS stories now.

But mate you are using logic for decisions of bioware, there is no logic for their decisions roles of Jorgan and Kaliyo got reduced to almost nothing i dont remember single time they said or did something important at kotet and will find a way with Senya and Arcan to cut them too, they wont be doing two sets of story because of that decision its easier for them just do one story where they wont be and remember emperor is gone you are now big chief of Zakuul even that reduces the need for Senya and Arcann to be part of the story. Im not saying they wont be there that we will never see them again same with Vette and Torian but they just wont be major part like Theron or Lana.

Still a Clan Head and his Clan can grow, he also has a lot of influence with Mandalore as a respected Clan Leader.

Theron could do what Vette did. Better, I'm sure as he's actually trained for it and unlike her has been doing it much longer.

This choice is ridiculous. For damn no reason there are two mighty fighters who can beat a small army by themselves - Senya and Arcann. And my character just the same. Why not split our forces and save both? Stupid. At least, we could've help both Vette and Torian survive long enough for reinforcment arrival.

I decided to save Torian on both my toons ( female BH and male JC) because i didn't wanted any unexpected and unwanted conflicts with Shae Vizla. What if she turned against the Alliance ? How was i supposed to win a war against all the clans commanded by her? As Lana said, in the past Mandalorians raided planets for sport, so taking over Odessen would have been a piece of cake for them.

This. I mean, I understand for the point of gameplay why this happens. But maybe you send Senya and Arcann to save the one you don't choose, and they encounter and fight Vaylin, and you have to get to them and help them. However, I do again understand why they'd kill one off. I've heard it said that "a war story without character deaths isn't a war story, it's war ***********." Someone (on our side) really did need to die. It's just a shame which two they chose.

Yup, I understand it too. But hey, I lost HK-55 in tough battle with no reinforcement to come. I could kill Senya and Arcann just because they are my enemies in this war. Emperor himself killed Darth Marr. All of this deathes was reasonable. In Virmire battle we was completely outnumbered - two teams vs local army of krogans and geths. But this... Really, Bioware, try again, this mission is fail. There is no drama, there is stupidity.
