RNG is perfect for SWTOR and I'll explain why.

Thank you, finally good to see others like myself that see the benefit of this system over the old system. I rarely did ops, which meant I was unable to get my main hand weapon, or even the higher end gear.

But now, I can do what I enjoy and I can still get the top end gear. This is better for EVERYONE in the long run, just people fear change and refuse to see the light at the end of the tunnel because they are already convinced it's a train. It's not a train, but no amount of telling them that will suffice. They already 'know' it's a train.

Exactly. Well said. This will benefit more players than anything else. Galactic Command will allow this game to build and retain a new generation of players.

Actually you're wrong. It's not better for everyone.

Firstly, why are you complaining that you never got a main hand weapon, if you never did ops. Do you want everything handed to you on a plate? If you wanted something, then you go and do that thing to get that item. Why do you deserve a main hand weapon if you don't even do ops? Simply put: You don't.

That's what's so good about raiding. You work with a team, communicate with people, kill a boss, and dish out the loot evenly. I'm sorry you didn't find a good raiding team to do this, but you still don't deserve those items if you never participated. I think that's what you're not understanding.

5.0 has killed alts, it's killed raiding. There are a lot of people who play on their alts a lot (almost everyone) and a lot of people do raiding. Unfortunately 5.0 has brought in an RNG system where pure luck dictates wether you get geared or not for anything competitive.

Before, you could actually earn and work towards something such as a set piece in your raid group or that piece of armor you buy with comms. Now, it's totally random so you may never get that set piece.

I was reading recently an article about games and why people stay/leave the game.

And since the title is RNG is perfect, i urge you all to have a look at this article. I found it very interesting.

EDIT: for those too bored, go to point number 10 and onwards.

I am PVE mostly. And solo mostly. I find the CS is not that bad.... B U T !!! : I cant do the same crap over and over again... I leveled up to Command Level 7 and now i am done with it. It is simply boring boring boring .. They should have given us some new H2-Mission, Dailies on the now 4 (!!) new planets, some exploring stuff with the droid and glasses,... NOTHING ZERO ZIP ZILCH NEW content. ANd story-chapters were fun... ONE TIME.

That being said as a "casual" solo PVE player...

I know the feeling. I miss the feeling of going around in a new planet exploring, getting those damn hidden datacrons, searching for easter eggs. That was the first thing i did when i reached 50 back at launch.

And no new daily hubs either :( :( I don't understand why BW:A keeps saying, hey we got 2 new planets that you cannot do anything on them ever except that 1 hour in the storyline. That's not a new planet, thats a corridor that i will see once and be done with it.

Also, they said at the NY cantina event (if i am not mistaken) that they would look at the missions from microbinoculars and the droid missions. Make the final H4s soloable and possibly add more ...Nothing happened on that front either...

I, for one, am happy we did not receive more daily zones. I have never liked dailies. I remember when the game first came out and I was doing daily content on Ilum. I thought it was placeholder content until BioWare implemented more endgame. To my bewilderment, BioWare thought dailies were a "good idea" and apparently some folks even enjoyed grinding the same cookie cutter missions every single day. Not me.

I can tolerate heroics since we can at least teleport to them and they are a decent source of credits. Dailies, on the other hand, are an absolute waste of time typically with an arbitrary reputation layer placed on top to encourage "replay value."

I certainly am looking forward to new content, but hopefully dailies will never rear their ugly heads in this game ever again. Anything but dailies would be a great direction for this game to go. If you are really that desperate to participate in dailies, there are tens of hours of daily content already available to you in the game. Have fun.

You are always guaranteed a gear piece. It just may not be a gear piece you need. If you find the command crate to be lacking, disintegrate and move on to the next command crate. This system is actually built to encourage rapid level gains so that players will eventually achieve the gear they want.

you actually aren't. if each crate had a useful piece of gear but random on WHAT piece it is that'd be one thing. but if you keep getting crates of 1) empty shell 2) jawa junk 3) companion gift / reputation token................ (and trust me that's exactly what i keep getting constantly), you will just not get any upgrades AT ALL. and it gets old really fast. and u're like.... hmmm do i even want to invest even more time in this crap if i keep getting these boxes that don't have gear like at all. so NO, this kind of RNG can go and F*** off for all i care. (just my opinion really, but it is exceedingly annoying)

You mean the ones we already ran to death 1 million times and we need something new?

See, i thought this threat was not about you and it was about everyone ?

You keep trying to make points that everyone should enjoy this, RNG is good for all,it will attract new players etc. But at the end of the day it's about you and what you like, no?

I just wanted to post that I respect your Rhetoric Aowin, enough that I built a post to supplement this one and also refute it with another, that may be slightly counter to yours.

Hoping for a healthy debate haha.

Again, you are always guaranteed a piece of gear. Whether it's a green, blue, orange, or purple (with a set piece bonus), you will always get something. Sure, you may already have that piece or something better. However, it is factually incorrect to state you never get gear from every command crate. You are 100% guaranteed a piece of gear every time open a command crate.

How would new "dailies" be any different? You run them once when they are "new" and then they would get old after a few days. I don't see your point because dailies are ultimately repeatable content that isn't fun and that gets tirelessly repetitive very quickly.

This thread isn't about me. I merely stated my opinion about dailies, which isn't relevant to the original post. Nothing I have stated previously with regard to RNG or Galactic Command has changed. This system is better for new players and the majority of the player base.

Ah, very interesting. I'll have to check it out when I have a bit more time to read it. Thanks for the heads up. I'm always interested in reading more threads that provide constructive criticism rather than the typical rhetoric of "the sky is falling."

I see the point you're trying to make, OP, but new players are still having to level to 70 and then get on the treadmill if they are after the best available equipment in-game.

Now since 5.0 there's no guarantee of getting useful items, and frighteningly that CXP is expandable to 500 levels, 1000 levels or even 5000 levels, it still doesn't bridge the gap between veterans or newcomers.

We are all on a ladder - some are racing to the current top, some are stepping a step at a time, some are still on the lowest rungs.

It might have been better to fix bolster and synching and levels, and ditching the gear grind.

if they putt in enjoyable content to retain players, rather than making them repeat old content over and over for a Russian roulette approach to gearing up, everyone could benefit. You could still gate things with achievements, having succeeded at an easier level before the next, for instance.

You keep on repeating this statement... How do you know what the majority of the player base wants?

Do you have some metrics? some polls? Inside information from BW? Or you are just speculating?

And how do you know it's better for new players? When a new player comes he is by now 1 week behind the existing ones. 1 month from now he will be 30-50-100 command levels behind. So how come it's better?

If the majority of the player base likes the new system, then why with the dozens of posts keep cropping up about hating the system and they are quitting?

I have never seen such an uproar since the Contraband machine nerfs...

okay fine, i might just be annoyed as f*** because i'm sorry but i do not consider useless green crap that is not an upgrade at all to be useful. it's a bad attempt at copying the WoW system of the legendary items RNG and it's implemented in a much worse way. just because the thing you get from the crate is technically a piece of gear it is by far not 100% useful or an upgrade. and the fact is, ur command rank doens't even increase your chance of getting a better drop. pre 5.0 you could do the ops of needed level and try to get the piece you needed. Now? you can grind as much as you can and still get nothing but crap.

Please, do explain what exactly is inclusive about this system. because i'm trying to see it,... and i'm just not succeeding.

Galactic Command is a system that benefits all, not just the few. I am a veteran player and I support this new system.

Ok explain me this. Rank 28 no set items no nothing except one 230 relic.

Sorry nice try but its not true. Like in any casino gambling business - some win huge but some have to loose also a lot.

And i'm also veteran player. Started playing this game since beta and i dislike this new system. No matter how you try to explain this people will abandon this game.

I've been here since very early beta. The last time there was such a universal uproar was about three or four months after launch. To quell this uproar, BW did the infamous "guild summit", which only further stoked the anger when it became apparent that BW thought then (as they do now) that they knew better than customers (and guilds) who have played together through multiple MMOs. That being said, they ignored the uproar then and it cost them upwards of 75% of the subscriber base and caused them to implement the F2P model.

They would do well to heed the lessons of the past, but the interview they did last Friday on MassivelyOP shows they won't. They are all in for this system and, once again, their disconnect with the community is going to cost this game badly.

I think I get what Aowin means and will try to explain it to you. You practically have the answer in your signature already.

The ops ready char you have (according to your signature) is gear wise too high and to optimized to have any advatage of the first command crate levels (224 set gear, fully augmented). I have the same problem on my ops char (opened 11 boxes, got two worthy enhanchements, one 230 token belt and a speeder). There seems amazingly few upgrades within such a char in the boxes on the first levels I agree. But those are not the chars we should only speak about. It is understandable you all get frustrated because you want to advance. I would too if I would just groom those chars. :o

I am one of those players with "useless alts" and collected up some more on the DvL event (comms gear 208) on different servers. I take one of those chars in comparrison. Four boxes opened, all four boxes spawned a significant advancement for this specific char. Boots and chest were replaced without set piece, but better stats on all accounts. My char got an upgrade on the relic which were not obtainable on 208. The fourth piece I forgot already, I am too lazy to check right now. :o

So yes it is more inclusive because it is a tradeoff. The ops char is slowed down due the system (guess in tier 2 it will get better) but the "normal" chars like my DvL one is boosted. The gear gap between the ops char and the DvL char is closing more up, right now. Of course it will never be on par as you and me just play the ops char more. How long that system will work this way, we will see. If more and more people enter tier 2 the gear gap might again get bigger but it is just too early to judge. But the non raiders/ranked PvP players might play more hours in their stuff and end up favoured into ranking up. Everything about tier 2 is currently speculation but on the start of the system stands that Aowin is right. BW is also into the responsibility towards those without ops and PvP ranked chars (whatever their reason for not taking part is, small server, general not existent interest, bad experiences, DvL). Only BW has the exact numbers of who is in what group.
