Hey Eric! You looked at the data... now look again.

The point of a decoration is to act as decoration for your stronghold.

The fact it makes pretty lights and sounds and drops some useless junk when you right click it is just an added bonus. It should not have any other impact on gameplay or economy whatsoever.

Oh, you mean like the legacy bank, mailbox, GTN kiosk, guild bank, gathering nodes or other decorations that "have no impact on gameplay or economy whatsoever"?

The fact that it is under "utilities" speaks volumes as to whether or not it's supposed to sit in the corner and look pretty or actually be useful.

Honestly I don't understand how the slot machine could ever be considered fun

Well, then you're not very smart. But there's been research on why people enjoy real slot machines. Casinos make far too much money off of them to not understand why people do it. Virtual slots is little different, psychologically.

First of all, the in-game slot machine is not even remotely comparable with a real slot machine. Second of all, "fun" has absolutely nothing to do with why people use real slot machines. Third, most responses talk about the social aspect, not any enjoyment of the machine itself, so "fun" is clearly still not a factor. And I could end this post with some sort of high-school-tier insult to counter yours, but I know it's just part of the little tantrum you're having over this issue and lashing out makes you feel better, so I'll give you a pass.

The only thing they are useful for now is to buy 10-20 coins and say hmm maybe Ill win something and then leaving it alone because it will waste your time and money, the chances of winning anything is on par with winning the power ball though. Even if you do win a jawa junk, is it even worth all that effort? Hell no. It would take all your credits to win 10 certs probably 20 mill at least and you still wouldn't win all ten, you could just buy that mount. Clearly there is something wrong here.

This makes me think of those Old Spice commercials.

Honestly, I liked the idea of other people clicking on their slot machines and putting enough purple mats on GTN to drive the prices down, so crafting useful stuff for my characters and companions would have been less of a tedious chore, waiting for 1 in 20 missions to return a purple mat or two for a week or two so I could craft an item mod...

I know, what the hell is wrong with these devs.. If anything the way that slot machine worked was needed! I have underworld metals and never even use it, or rarely do, because it is not profitable to send your companions out on those missions, only to never get any purple mats and then you get this one mat all the time that sells for next to nothing.

I would agree that the current slot machine is not really a slot machine...it is an RNG machine. A slot machine would have a very rare payout....A very high rate of coin return, and once in a while a few people would get a huge payout.

It would pay out more than 90 percent of what is taken in. This machine does not do that.

If you want to look at this as a slot machine, crew missions are also slot machines, as are drops from missions, raids, etc. Anything RNG in the game is a slot machine.

You make a very valid point there, one that's not noticed much. BioWare perhaps intended for the machine to be used in this way, then caved when the "mats barons" complained (while laughing gleefully and spamming the machine 5000+ times so they could corner the mats market even more after it's nerf.)

Equally, it's what BioWare do now that will speak volumes. They'll either do nothing until everything dies down, alter the CSM so it actually does something useful - just not in terms of materials or certs. Either that or they'll do nothing, which is possibly the worst outcome for themselves longer term.

I couldn't give a monkeys if it's sat in my SH doing nothing, what it will do longer term for me personally is ensure I'll never buy materials off the GTN ever again to spite the "mats barons". So they've done themselves a disservice.

Go look up the definition of switch and bait, this does not meet the legal grounds for it.

Where did you get your law degree?

the action (generally illegal) of advertising goods that are an apparent bargain, with the intention of substituting inferior or more expensive goods.

"a bait-and-switch scheme"

Now is it illegal what they did I don't think so but I'm not a lawyer just like you. But it is a form of bait and switch.

because I'm paraphrasing now eric said that the slot machines were working as intended but they would look into the drop rates of the Jawa junk not the other stuff like the cartel certificates and the other Jawa scraps.

let me tell you a story.

when I was gambling away a few millions during casino event.... the rate to get jackpots was low. things like mounts were pretty rare. I still ended up with 3 black vectrons, and one rancor. however... I also ended up with a lot and i mean a LOT of golden certificates. that allowed me to buy things that I didn't yet have - so I got a few more mounts for a few more alts, a ton of legacy weapons, some pets, couple of regen toys, and couple of customizations. given comparable prices on legacy weapons at other vendors... I actualy ended up not only breaking even, but with bigger haul than I would have gotten, had I bought stuff from those other vendors (like BBA for instance)

this is what made it fun. pretty high chance of winning things I actualy wanted. even if I didn't win black vectrons or rancors.. I still got a LOT out of that event.

cue current incarnation of slot machine. I've been legend with this faction for a very long time now. since people started selling packs on GTN pretty much immediately, I ended up maxing out my rep simply by buying them that way. I also got enough certs to buy a few shinies of that vendor. like a throne I wanted, but never managed to get it to drop in a pack. so reputation items are effectively useless to me. would I like another mount for my collection? sure. but unlike casino event - I get NOTHING else out of this machine. I get some credits back by vendoring rep items but this is not the win, or even breaking even that I had with casino event. before the nerf? scraps were those useful wins with certificates being my vectrons. but now... certificates are as bad as rancor during casino event.

so... slot machine holds no appeal. because I lose majority of the time with very low chance of winning - its not fun.

winning something that you don't yet have - its fun. winning more than you put in? that's fun. just throwing money at the machine and getting nothing out of it? not fun. not when I can use those credits to buy actual things I can use.

I have to completly agree with you here, while the rate of the crafting mats did seem a bit high it didn't need the amount of changes that happened.

As a test i bought 99 coins for the machine around 75000 credits, and bare in mind that i have full rep I then spent all the coins and i got back..........Drum roll plz.............a few credits from selling the rep certificates.

It's a pity as with a bit of thought this could be a good credit sink but we are left with is an ugly object that flashes everynow and again in our strongholds.

This is about in line with my thinking...that most fair minded folks likely felt the drop rate was too high for purples, but fine for blues and greens.

But they nerfed EVERYTHING, even the certs.

I've made a suggestion in the Suggestions Forum I would like to 'signal boost'. My apologies for putting this post in more than one thread.

Please consider visiting the thread and adding your own thoughts/ideas about changes to the slots that would make them more acceptable and help alleviate community discontent with the v1.1 changes.

Please note: I think we have more than enough general complain threads. Now its more helpful to provide BioWare/The Devs with some ideas and demonstrate we're being reasonable and its too their benefit to consider our suggestions.

Thanks!

let me tell you a story.

Was it about a ship?

A tale of a fateful trip,

That started from this tropic port,

Aboard this tiny ship.

The mate was a mighty sailin' lad,

The Skipper brave and sure,

Five passengers set sail that day,

For a three hour tour,

A three hour tour.

The only way this story could get better would be if the weather started getting rough.
