Gold spammers: will it take us to crash the servers to have EA finally fix the issue?

You could be surprised of how even instanced systems have a limit and mass loadiing on the same cluster can affect game play down to crashing features like chat servers or at best having long queue times.

Point is gold spammers needs to be taken care of. One way to make the producer get it is to hurt the playability of the game. It's not a fun nor a fair thing but, trust me it does make things change.

And as every riot it takes a single spark to ignite a wild fire.

Thing is how much does the producer cares about it?

Rendering the game unplayable for everyone because you hate gold spammers is the most selfish and absurd idea brought to the table that I have seen on the subject.

Gold spammers are getting really annoying, especially since credits are much more looked after because of the slot machines and the rancor prize.

For now we are obliged ignore them and keep emptying the limited ignore lists.

The report spam button not only does not squelch the player but also requires people to dismiss the useless popup.

Top of that ignore isn't shared between alts.

If nothing else we've been asking since even before launch for a one button report/squelch/ignore spammers.

The problem keeps being dismissed, as such will it require players to unite and act as what was done in other MMO and eventually crash the servers by mass loading in specific instances all at once?

This is becoming a serious issue totally ruining the game play experience.

Note that intentially crashing a server or instance can usually give you an IP ban to the game.

I have seen key word autobans work in the past... with mixed results...

Did it catch the spammers... yes... but if the net is cast to wide, you catch legit players as well who mistakenly used the wrong word in chat. Too narrow... and the spammers find a way around it...

I get it, it bothers me as well... I'd be happy with a change that would simply ignore people I report spam on. I'd be happy with that. Its the yellers that get me... since the report spam and ignore on on subtrees for them.

This OP is beating a dead horse ...

People you have to learn to /ignore the spammers. That is Bioware's built in solution. Chat can already customized so much via tabs and unchecking "channels" you dont want to see. You don't even have to see general chat at all if you dont want to while you're on the fleet.

EVERY MMO has gold spammers, every single one. It will never go away. The only thing to do is GET OVER IT already and /ignore.

Bioware cannot do much else but provide us our own ways of muting them.

how about instead of spending time programming our barbie dreamhouses that everyone is going to stand in twice and they add a function to ignore whole accounts, or muzzle players after being reported for spam x times.

or, here's a wild idea, increase the size of our ignore lists. i have to empty mine at least once a week for something that can be easily addressed.

it's not a matter of it being easy to ignore, but this is also easy to address as well. having one employee to join servers and ban accounts wouldnt be so hard either. there are countless things they can do.

Yet to fill my ignore list. Less time on fleet does wonders. I only use ignore when I see the same thing spammed multiple times in under a minute. I don't care if a gold spammer or some idiot. You get ignored. Otherwise not worth all the trouble everyone makes this out to be.

You need to clean out your ignore list from time to time. Old spammers no longer exist.

Not sure if it works the same way for the ignore list, but on a friend's list, if a character on there gets deleted, it is automatically removed from your friend's list.

Its an annoyance, I know and it can get irritating if you switch alts every now and then (sometimes to the point where I ask myself if Ignore function works, only to realize I'm ignoring the for the fourth time on a different alt) but all you can do is just ignore and move on.

In my time in Guild Wars 2, I didn't notice too many Gold Spammers. Perhaps that was because NCSoft sold the gold themselves.

Things could have changed since I stopped playing, though,

The character may not get deleted per se. The account gets banned. Effectively removing the character from the game.

  • Click ok on popup button
  • Delete entries from now full ignore list
  • Log on alts, do the same thing from start
  • Rinse and repeat

Vs: Devs automatically filter gold spammers trough key words and account IP

Eventually, players one click report/squelch/ignore spammers.

That right there shows the lack of understanding on network mechanics by this person. If it actually WERE productive to block an IP, I would rather they block yours first just for the suggestion of crashing the servers.

I could care less and have learned to ignore them. If you somehow crashed the servers I would be angry at you, not EA and the gold spammers.

We're just going to have to live with BWs way of handling this I fear and I'm not even sure I blame them as F2P makes it exceedingly easy for sellers to just have a ton of chars in storage for their crap.

Were SWTOR still a sub only game I'd be disappointed having experienced a much more efficient way of handling those pesky little goldsellers in FF XIV. Over there you hand in a ticket with the name of the seller, the world you're on and a copy paste of his message and he gets banned within a mere 15mins at the longest. You even get a message stating that actions have been taken and that you can now remove the seller from your ignore list if you put him there.

They just seem to care about it a good deal more as they also put regular updates into their launcher stating numbers like this:

RMT and other illicit activities upset the balance of the game and, as such, are prohibited under the Terms of Service.

Because we have confirmed the existence of players who are engaging in these illicit activities, we have taken the actions listed below.

Time Period: Jul. 10, 2014 to Jul. 16, 2014

- Accounts receiving disciplinary action for RMT advertising: 222

- Accounts receiving disciplinary action for RMT/illicit activity: 530

- Action Details: Permanent ban from FINAL FANTASY XIV

Players who discover any confirmed cheats should, under no circumstances, exploit or disseminate such information. Instead, we ask that players file a report by using the in-game command [system Menu] -> [support Desk] -> [Contact Us] -> [Report Cheating].

We will continue to take stringent disciplinary action against any accounts with confirmed involvement in RMT/illicit activity; players should take care to steer clear of any activity that violates the Terms of Service.

I could care less.......

Well then, why don't you? :p

Sorry, teasing. I get hit with corrections to "your" all the time and rightly so, had to have fun with this one. It's actually "couldn't care less".

I don't understand how impacting the playing experience of your entire server is the solution for this. Gold spammers fill up fleet chat, and your response is to literally remove your peers' ability to play the game? I'll take the spam, please.

What about the Gold Farmers? How many of these green geared, stealth characters with disposable names do we need picking up all the loot crates on Makeb and Oricon on a timer, making a hundred million a week to sell before something is done? I report them every time I see them and they vanish usually within a few day never to appear again, but another just pops up right away.

Huh? Three's a way to make a hundred million a week, and I didn't know? Damn. :(

About the gold farmers: I remember the time when they were very, very rare. It changed around 2.8, I think - possibly some auto-ignore mechanism was turned off, or something. And, yes, I'd really like for that mechanism to come back and for the gold spammers to disappear.

getting 100 mil pr week sounds tempting, but I actually wonder if that is really the case. POssibly when running 24/7 with macro to loot nearby crate... nothing for real living player.

As for gold farmers, they popped when demand for credits increased with casino event, with people spending 10+ million to get that bloody rancor

The Americans use "could care less", rather than the correct "couldn't care less", in the same way as they only have limited numeracy skills, ie, "math" rather than "maths". Also, I note that most of their incoming mail must only say "me" within the letter.

I got 3 whispers from different spammers last night within the span of an hour or so. I don't mind the fleet spam, I can ignore that and I often turn off general chat on fleet when I am there for other various reasons. The whispering though is bothering me. I am on my level 40 alt, minding my own business on Hoth, and I get whispers to buy gold. Annoying.

Nonetheless, It's still easy to ignore them. I would say that they should not allow people to type http://www.com in chat, but the spammers would just get around any chat filters. Gold spam has been in every popular I've played since 2004, and I don't see it going anywhere soon. Just ignore it and move on.
