the biggest problem with this game it dosen't feel like a star wars game, there is nothing here i can realet to the movies, SWG you could visit Luke,Leia, Han solo, now that is star wars for me, this is just a big fail. i didn't like Kotor that game didn't feel like star wars, for me star wars is the time were the 3 first movies toke place, the rest is just some crazy spin of a cheap way for lucas art to make cash.

SWG was great for it's sandbox aspect. Housing/ship customization was awesome. The RP on the RP servers was good in its heyday, too.

SWTOR is too linear and lacks immersion. Even though SWG was more of a grindfest, SWTOR feels even more-so because there's nothing to do besides quest and PvP. There are no "fug off" things to do really where you can interact with other players or the world.

ITT: Disgruntled SWG veterans complain about how Star Wars: The Old Republic isn't more like Star Wars Galaxies.

We've heard it all, folks, its nothing new. If the game isn't working out for you, quit. I guarantee no one will care.

We'll be too busy enjoying TOR.

I think SW:TOR is an awesome game, i started playing it only because SWG was shut down and many of my awesome guildies went on to this game, and i am pleasantly surprised- i miss SWG more and more because i find SW:TOR lacking a lot when it comes to the social bits, but i still think this is a rocking game in its more singleplayer way. Comparing the two games really is quite useless imo...well, i guess the thread is created by some troll anyway....

one thing no one mentions was the 3-d space combat it was its whole own game

That came in an expansion after release and was actually pretty boring. Even though the current SWTOR mini-game is on rails it actually has a lot more of a Star Wars feel to me then the SWG model

SW:TOR is a good game but a bad MMO, it could be Kotor 3 with co-op and multiplayer and the differences would be minimal.

SW:TOR is definitely the better game but that doesn't mean it can't learn anything from pre-NGE SWG.

SWTOR is a good game. I have been in game since they opened the servers. I have aquired 3 level 50 toons at this point and that's the issue I have with SWTOR.

Mini-games are stale. Space games are really bad. Space on rails is just a poor idea for a "Star Wars" title. I have allways thought this way and even after trying to "buy in" it just proved itself true.

The issue I have is what to do now. Unlike SWG when I maxed out my leveling I became a master craftman. I built and sold droids and made a good amount of credits doing it. Allways having a backlog of orders to fill as people knew me and sought me out to build the best in class.

SWTOR just doesn't offer a lot of options for level 50 players other than PvP. Frankly I cannot play endless nights of Huttball and Voidstar to hold my subscription.

I truly wanted to see this game hold my attention like SWG did for 6 years. I am having trouble seeing it hold me for 6 months at this point. The community does not exist. I go to a planet that has 16 players on it. Carrick Station having 30 players on it... That needs to be addressed, There's no need to shard an instance with less than a hundred players in it.

Hopefully the new patch will have things in it that will excite me... Legacy looks like it might hold somethings but it basically means I would need to roll out another toon to take advantage of it. So I get to waste another 3 weeks grinding up a legacy toon. THEN WHAT DO I DO?

I know I'm not the only person struggling with this, am I?

The strength of SWG(pre-NGE) was its social aspects such as player driven cities and economy. The nature of a sandbox game turns off many players both because of its learning curve and because it lacks direction and is not solo friendly. Players that enjoyed the game had to create their own path and be active socially to thrive. The server I played on Eclipse has such a strong community that you felt more part of a society than just a game.

i think this post captures the essence of what people lived about swg. it was a society not just a community. we had celebrities on our server... pvpers, dancers and crafters! swg got me into mmo and i just figured all mmos were like swg.. i was sadly mistaken.

i am convinced that what makes things like pvp memorable is making it personal.i mean.. seg had personal ownership.. whether crafting, attacking and defending player cities and bases or the intense pvp rivalries that swg had that frankly wow, aoc and warhammer just didn't

i really like swtor , and as another poster said, ive been waiting for swtor since the nge hit.. heres hoping bioware take great ideas from various sources and makes this the most engaging, challenging, and best mmo to date.

swg community made swg.. swtor can have that too with very little effort on biowares part.

keep the themepark business model, add more sandbox features on instanced planets

oh.. and guild ships- Great idea!! with great potenial.. please make it customizable, player driven .... and attackble on a volountary basis!!!

I dont know how, but you Bioware and Electronic Arts managed to drive a game so straight forward up the wall. Blizzard needed 3-4 years to shoot their game and they didnt have a legendary movie series in their back.

If this is everything you, EA and Bioware, are able to setup with that pre work and background done by Lucasarts already, I would suggest you stick to your sport games and forget MMO's.

You are not prepared! :D

For me SWG was a game wich truly earned the title "MMORPG" in every aspect.

SWTOR is a great MOG, without being "Massive" nor really "RPG" friendly as no player interaction is required AT ALL except from PVPing and grouping for designated group quests/missions.

It doesnt feel massive (heroics anyone?? *silence* hellooooo?) and the planets have a neat landscape and such but are lifeless as a museum :(

Why I am still here? Well...I got it as a present including game time. Would I subscribe for this....not really.

But this is just my point of view of course ;)

What if SWG 2 came out, and it was sandbox 2.0, basically redefining the way sandbox games work, ship, city, lightsaber creation is all still there, but expanded, sort of like EVE Online, the amount of freedom players have in that game is just out of this world, if they made a SWG 2 game with similar features i would play it in a heartbeat, i already wish this game was more like SWG and an SWG 2 would be a dream come true for me.

Well that's a huge "what if" isn't it?

SWg was great pre-cu, you lived a second life, one you HAD created, a legacy YOU made; to me thats star wars.

i've already downed all hardmodes to date, none of which had any difficulty. The crafting is brutal, i'm a crafter type mmo player and don't give a care for playing WZs' till your mind bleeds out. I don't like the one click craft.

-if they worked more on content than switching the combat and professions; or making more schematics, swg still would be alive. look at the emulator, even in its uncompleted state they still have a massive player base so they continue working on it.

I skipped wow based on the fact that it was linear, i liked the fact that i could explore areas in SWG whenever i wanted, instead of a leveling system that forced you into going to planets you never liked, like voss. I'm not a cookie cutter mmo player, and coming here i thought i'd enjoy being in the star wars universe again, but i was wrong.

-YES this had a great start, but your dealing with players much like me, into thinking they could enjoy the theme. My ENTIRE guild of hardcores is gone, canceled subs... which was like 250 people. sadly i'm seeing this everywhere, people asking for server merges, this game won't last more than 3 years. then go F2p for another six. If they didn't try turning galaxies into this, i'd probably still be playing.

SWG lost most its player base 1 month after release and never recovered !

Grind your life away games are dieing

SWG had no real story

SWG crafting system sucked for those players without a serious guild

SWG was left on life support because lucasarts wanted to hold onto the MMO

Pre-NGE sucked After-NGE sucked

The SWGEMU isn't even out yet , so how do you gather it has a large player base ? I have a friend who tried the SWGEMU and said it was just as dead and empty as the game was when SOE had it still live !

Please continue to pay 15 a month for this game just to coment on about the dead relic called SWG .

FF11 not even 2 months younger than SWG is still live and still has a larger community than SWG ever had ! The game sucked

NGE was brought foward in a attempt to bring in new accounts and it did , as when NGE went live it gained more players than it had since SWG went live .

NGE as much as you guys hate on it kept it going for time after it !

it was a social game, not a single player game. I agree it needed more work. but as far as crafting goes, what are you comparing it to? it took time finding the best quality resources.

died after the first month? thats' an exaggeration. DO remember that at that time, there wasn't as many people playing MMOS all together, it was still fairly new design. The emulator is still being built, weather or not people are playing it, the forums are alive. your judging something that IS NOT complete.

-This game has no social value what so ever.

-No real crafting.

-Space on rails? REALLY? (not to mention custom ships... LOL)

-A very aggressive community, one that came from WoW i'm sure.

-People are already leaving front right and center

-NO ECONOMY

-No skill needed what so ever, i can play this game completely ********d and roll my face on the keyboard and still slay baddies.

-FAR to, and i mean FAR to casual for it to be any fun. same old wzs' same old instances Different *******s every time.

**on a side note, made a good story and a good single player game, i just finished my third fifty, didn't feel the need to group... and ive got all my PvP gear done. tell me to level another? SORRY, sick of the same old planet rotation. I do like the combat dont get me wrong, i just don't like the cookie cutter feel to it.

Funny , you paying for a game you claim to not like derails your whole arguement. Hey keep supporting TOR ! I know I will !

Majority of people do not like grinders , hence why SWG never had anything worth playing for the Majority of MMOers

SWG had no choice to be a social game , wasn't nothing else to do! When everyone is done grinding every story , PvE PvP items and everything else TOR has to offer , you will see more SOcial

SWG went from 300k players to less than 100k players in one month and never recovered till NGE which went to as far as 500k player down to 10k players before it was closed !

-This game has no social value what so ever.

Just because no one wants to talk to you does not mean there is no socializing going on. Most are on vent , and again when most have this game down there will be more socialising. SWG had no choice as there way nothing else to do !

-No real crafting.

SWG had no crafting really its first year , last I checked this game isn't even a year old lol..............Grind Crafting is for no lifers

-Space on rails? REALLY? (not to mention custom ships... LOL)

SWG didn't have space combat till after a year so what ?

-A very aggressive community, one that came from WoW i'm sure.

Alot of SWG won't move on people as well .

-People are already leaving front right and center

-NO ECONOMY

Market is full and there is more players than SWG ever had even on the light to empty servers , so what lol

-No skill needed what so ever, i can play this game completely ********d and roll my face on the keyboard and still slay baddies.

Was no skill needed to play SWG, just needed to have lots of tie on your hands. One of my friends grinded his way to Jedi on SWG and did it all while being unemployed in less time than most . Didn't take skill , it just took time !

-FAR to, and i mean FAR to casual for it to be any fun. same old wzs' same old instances Different *******s every time.

Magority rules and your game sucked , sorry lol

**on a side note, made a good story and a good single player game, i just finished my third fifty, didn't feel the need to group... and ive got all my PvP gear done. tell me to level another? Most endgame requires full groups , so year single player thing is out the window. Good crafter guilds have 7-20 players easy on at a time to make sure everyone has gear needed to be pimp.

SWG had nothing on their planets but useless space and lots of player homes in player made ghost towns . More memory used for crap period .

SWG players just pay subs to Troll TOR forums lol, upset that their game was worthless and no one wanted to play it but a simple 10k no lifers ! Grind baby Grind !
