you cannot buy all the variations for commendations.

i don't think you realise just how many variations there are...especially later on when they have combinations of 4 different stats on a single item.

This isn't true. Mods don't have different variations of each item. Further, not only can you buy them all, the ones you can buy are better.

It's not only a level 50 thing either. At the low levels, you can only make even numbered mods while the vendors sell both even and odd numbered.

I think they should maybe reclassify some of the social armor to fit into a "light / medium / heavy" armor weight "thing." If not that, then make different versions of it with the same looks and name, just different weight classes. This way, everyone's happy.

Or just remove the mod slots and make it purely social.

I agree with the OP 100%. I use medium armor and I would have loved to have the imperial pilots helmet, but it's only light....why? I understand slave girl outfits and sand people outfits being for social situations, but the pilot gear didn't make sense to me.

They should.

I think its unfair my wife gets to wear amazing social gear her entire leveling process, while I get to see what color lego armor I get on each world.

Also there is the fact that getting legacy gear for all slots of gear isn't possible till higher levels.

Unless you grab social stuff.

i dont think you understand the point of social armor in this game.

its not social in the sense that its there to be used "socially"

its social in the sense that its a reward for social points to encourage grouping.

in beta there were full medium and heavy sets (some of which can still be seen on torheads and darthhaters databases)

they were removed for an as yet unknown reason pre launch.

as for your comment about "free" gear. you best get off that horse if you want to stay sane because gear is not supposed to be hard to get in swtor and the easy to get "orange" moddable gear is about to be extended and made viable all the way to end game.

"free" pfft. you obvious have missed the folks complaining about the length of the social grind then ye ? at the end of the day its just about looks. depending on little more than preference you can have a full orange set for every class at 19.

What was done in beta is irrelevant. What matters is how the game is now. Perhaps those sets were removed because they wanted the armor to be used cosmetically.

i doubt it given the up and coming extensions to the moddable gear system and their previous comments on their design intent for the social system ie those sets exist to incentivise grouping.

i suggest you stop trying to import a gear mentality from another game and pay more attention to the dev tracker.

Why don't we cut to the chase and you tell me what you think you know? I'm looking at the dev tracker now and I see...complaints about searing saber, linear research path for cybertech REing, many posts re: patches and patch notes, server outages, missing heads being investigated...what time frame should I be looking for? A day ago? A week? A month?

Social items should have been just that, social. (Great for RP, not to be worn around fighting like every other female model toon on my server does in dancer/slave) No need for the mod slots.

If they intended it for combat wear, they botched it with only having light armor.

well here's the one about the up and coming changes (14 days :) ) :

http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?p=1398252#edit1398252

The current situation with end game gear and item modifications isn’t final and, in fact, many community members like yourself have correctly guessed at what our plans to correct the current design are.

Since this is a fairly important issue to many players, let me disclose more details about what is currently in the work regarding purple items and mods:

- All partially moddable purple items will be made fully moddable again, allowing the removal of the armoring, hilt and barrel.

- The set bonus of end gear purples (PVP and PVE) will be transferable to custom items.

- Some item modifications will be restricted to a certain item type. For example, some item modifications will only fit on helmets, while other will only fit on chests, etc.

As usual, the caveats about unfinished work apply, but this should give you and the community a very good idea of our intentions. We are serious about making custom gear an entirely valid alternative to end game gear and we support the players’ ability to customize their appearance all the way to (and including) end game.

Have you tried? Is that why I see all those tanks in Princess Leia outfits?

I'm betting those tanks are Sith Assassins or Jedi Shadows, which are light armor classes. They can wear the social armors in routine gameplay without sacrificing armor rating. Medium and Heavy ACs cannot. Thus people whine that Jedi Consulars and Sith Inquisitors are "favored" because they can ding Social 1 and go buy a full custom set of armor at level 14.

If you are seeing Knight/Warrior or Trooper/Bounty Hunter tank ACs wearing slave/dancer outfits while tanking, they are sacrificing armor to do so.

Simple solution that can make 99% of everyone happy is to have an appearance tab for characters, with no armor limitations.

IE, regardless of what armor you are spec'd for, you put what you want in your appearance.

IMHO.

Yep. Simple solution that makes social armor useful to everyone.
