  1. Skimmed through the thread. I see people making the same old tired arguments for price controls on stuff they want, but they never seem to argue for a cap on how much they can get for their time and energy in the game. The bottom line is that even virtual economies have scarcity. As long as scarcity exists, supply and demand is the iron law. This game also wisely offers a basically free market and individual property rights. Once again, I'm going to recommend people read Basic Economics by Thomas Sowell.
  2. Ultimately, I think the guys in marketing would prefer if people were giving their links out to attract new players or entice f2p people to subscribe. I also think that it costs EA / Bioware nothing to allow current subscribers who never used a link to get the same bag of goodies that others can get for subscribing via a link. It also costs them nothing to allow the link provider a little kickback. Having said all that, I will point out that I put EVERY link spammer on my ignore list. There's absolutely no mechanic to ensure that click-for-pay transactions are executed honestly, and there's no recourse if the clicker doesn't get paid. Notice that the link spammers never offer to pay first, but they expect people to click with nothing but an empty promise of payment. From my perspective, it's an incentive to help other players. Perhaps a subscriber appreciates getting a hand from a veteran player and clicks the link. I know that content creators rely on this sort of thing, and I commend EA / Bioware for having some in-game mechanic to reward people who genuinely make the game better for other players.
  3. New abilities always mean wild imbalance and a new Flavor of the Month™. ...and with the rate Bioware fixes things, that month could be several months or even years.
  4. Account sharing is almost universally banned somewhere in the EULA or TOS of any subscription service, not just games. Companies don't want accounts compromised. Period. It's not a blurry line. It's boilerplate contract language that goes into subscription services because no self-respecting lawyer in a company's legal department would ever leave it out. The only blur is in how aggressively companies enforce the rules. People think it's allowed because they don't get caught. When they do get caught and get hit with harsh consequences, they cry about how they've been doing it forever without incident, which doesn't help their case.
  5. If you're asking about it, you're probably already doing it. Better hope Musco doesn't find out and refer it for a proper investigation.
  6. After the Ossus grind, they're giving us an entirely new gear grind? RNG is exciting!
  7. If the armor pieces had mods and enhancements in them, the vendor would've paid more than for empty shells alone.
  8. Anyone want to start a betting pool on how long it takes to fix this?
  9. Yavin 4: [DAILY] Artifacts of History Relic chest not clickable on Recover the Ancient Relic. Edit: Relogging seems to have fixed this one.
  10. Looking through the threads, I see a couple issues already popped up. Maybe we should consolidate and let the devs know everything that's messed up. Decoration Positions Stronghold decorations are displaying in their default positions. Devs have already noted that the correct positions are saved, but they are not displaying correctly. Guild Invasions The top 10 list is displaying nonsense. Movement Issue When running forward, my character seems to be randomly stopping as if hitting an obstruction, even if nothing is there.
  11. Whatever mods were in them factored into the price he received, so customer service still won't generate new items for him. They can't. That's the standard in pretty much any game I've ever played. Only items that are erroneously destroyed, for which the player received nothing in return, have a chance of being restored.
  12. I put enough hours into that game to earn a Ph.D. in it. Sadly, Mythic ruined it with realm points. When the realm vs. realm teamwork model became nothing more than individuals farming points for themselves, it lost what distinguished it from other games.
  13. The only problem I see here is that you post one side of the exchange, put your own spin on it, and expect all of us to jump on the bandwagon. Obviously, you had some items. You sold them for compensation. You asked customer service to give you the items again. Why would they do that? You traded one thing (items) for another (credits). Nothing was actually destroyed. Customer service can't just be an item generation service to put extra items into the game, regardless of their specific value. It's really hard to share your outrage over a CSR saying he feels your pain because he plays the game, but that he can't give you what you want because--big shocker here--he's probably not allowed to give you what you want.
  14. The list wasn't credible when I saw that EVE Online was way behind games that no one even plays anymore. The simple fact that EVE is one of the few games in which the artists continually work to keep it visually stunning earns it a higher place on this list.
  15. You hop from instance to instance waiting for a spawn so that you can get a group together (no one is willing to form in advance and just wait up to 2 hours). While your group is porting in, the other faction's group jumps on the aggro and puts you in another 2-hour wait. This is absolutely ridiculous. At the very least, reduce the timers on the world bosses when they are assigned as conquest tasks. There's no point to factoring them into your point planning for the week if you could just do something else for 2 hours to get those points.
  16. I bet she gets free drinks at every cantina in the galaxy.
  17. Companions' story reactions (influence gains) are so small as to be worthless, in my opinion. The grind to influence level 50 is so long and tedious that the only way to do it quickly and efficiently is by handing over hundreds of gifts. That lousy 50 to 100 points I get from an occasional conversation choice isn't making a dent in the influence grind. For purely functional efficiency, every toon should have 9 companions at influence rank 50. That gives you 8 to use for crew skills while still having one at your side. To go from 1 to 50 by simply hitting the Fleet gifts vendor costs around 5 million credits. That's 45 million out of pocket per character to skip the grind. I use a slower method because I don't want to drop that kind of cash on gifts. I grind a lot of heroics to get gifts from the alliance crates. That's the only way to get the gold gifts (about 3x the influence of purple gifts at rank 40+) without going bankrupt.(25x the cost of purple gifts). It's strange to me that leveling the character is absurdly quick and easy, but getting the comps to max level is a long, hellish grind with only one truly effective path to gaining influence (gifts).

  19. I like Anri. Tau is overdone. That said, I've got enough companions to keep me busy until the end of time. We don't really need to keep adding more unless they're going to streamline the interface a bit. Let's focus on getting back the original crew. Still missing Zenith, Kira, Scourge, et al.
  20. Going to echo this. Some planets, including Taris, have datacrons that are specific to Pub or Imp side. You can open your achievements interface (default key is Y, I believe) and see which datacrons you have collected. It will specifically denote Taris (Pub) and Taris (Imp).
  21. It's worth pointing out that the subscribers keep the game in business for all the freeloaders. People who spend hours playing should realize they're getting enough value in the game to pony up a few bucks per month. Want the team to put more into making the game even better? Subscribe.
  22. I would only play SWTOR as a subscriber. I spent 1 day in the beginning as f2p, and I would never go back to those limitations. It's sub or nothing for me.
  23. If I recall correctly, the pre-assigned comp for this is Vette. For some time now, there have been some glitches with ranged companion AI. With that said, here's how I've always done that encounter to avoid being killed: Put Vette on passive and run to the front door. Use a hotkey to make Vette attack any mob, which will automatically take her off passive. Clear the group of mobs. Put Vette on passive again and run to a side group, then hotkey her to attack. The technolith provides some cover from the other group. Once you kill this group, you do the same thing again for the other side. Setting Vette to passive keeps her close to you instead of standing there in the line of fire from all the mobs. You should also be prepared to use your own defensives instead of solely relying on Vette to heal. If you have guard, be sure to guard her so she doesn't have to heal herself as much. You may also find it useful to have a medpac and adrenals handy. I've never used them, but a medpac could be the difference between winning and losing if you're struggling to keep up when they first swarm in.
  24. If Khem Val is near the top, that's a good indication that people aren't taking the question seriously.
