  1. I love unload, but I also love the fact that with explosive dart the enemy starts quivering with fear!!

I can't stand sweeping blasters... mainly cos it doesn't DO anything.....

I would like Sweeping Blasters if it did as much damage as when the bosses who have it use it.

  2. DPSer perspective:

Tank should hold what he/she can but should always hold the boss/gold.

DPS should focus fire on the same baddie, but that kind of coordination doesn't always happen. Even so, any dps that can't burn down a trash mob or even a silver by themselves should really re-examine their gear and/or playing style.

  3. Sometimes. Was on last boss in Battle of Ilium (HM) and out of nowhere server lag spiked and then climbed like crazy (over 200k). Nothing wrong with my 'net connection. Couldn't log out or quit because the game said i was still in combat.

Had to quit from Task Manager and restart - fortunately the group managed to off him, even more fortunately and surprising, they waited for me to come back before looting and completing the final convo. Not everyone would do that.

  4. I prefer not to while leveling as the XP can make a real difference between moving to a new planet or being stuck on the same one for longer.

But, with no real advantage to be gained by killing them (i.e. no usable loot, no comms, etc) I'm ok with skipping stuff. But if the group wants to kill them, I'm ok with that too.

I don't queue when I don't have time to devote to a full run - if we can do it fast, then all the better.

  5. You're most welcome to try that with me tanking. I don't give a rats *** about anyone's percieved imba dps. You aggro, you tank. You break cc, you tank.

I hold myself to the same rules when playing as Sentinel.

    I like it!

Personally, I don't purposely pull what I can't kill fast. Nor will I purposely try to drag aggro off a tank just to show off (or for whatever reason people do that).

But - during a longish fight with a champ or boss I will get a good head of steam going (i.e. my procs all hit at just the right times, my high-damage fillers crit like crazy, etc) and the baddie will make a run at me. Really sucks too, because I have to tap my aggro dump and then wait a few seconds before re-engaging for tank to regain aggro and by that time i have to start all over again building up damage.

I haven't played a tank class yet, but I wouldn't think it'd be that "easy" to pull aggro - so no idea if it's a tank issue, but I always assume it's a me-issue and try to slow down a bit and use my aggro dump accordingly.

ETA - BUT, the best was to know your tank is dumb/bad is that they show up in dps gear. I don't mean just some that they haven't re-modded/augmented yet, I mean all dps gear: no shield, no defense, no absorb:confused: And then get touchy when you point it out.

  6. Some people would put the points in +crit and -Heat in Vent in bodyguard and the +30% AP in Railshot in Pyro already. That would put him 8 behind.

That's actually exactly what I did;)

I did pick up HSM in the meantime though and hit 50, yay!

  7. Take slicing and run missions as you level

Of course don't forget to slice any world resources nodes as well.

True, but it does cost credits to run the missions with no real guarantee on the return - sometimes it's a bit of profit, sometimes it's a failure. The resource nodes are free, however, and are literally everywhere on the starting planets if you need to level up the skill.

You should hopefully be getting quest reward gear and looting some greens (at least). GTN those cheaply to sell fast or vendor them if they aren't likely to be bought.

FPs are also a good source - join GF and run some quests or read a book or something while you wait. You could also solo some low level ones for gear to sell on GTN or vendor

  8. I agree with pretty much everything up there and it is typically the way I play.

I mainly do DPS just because I play to have fun and relax - healing and tanking are a touch too stressful for me to do regularly.

Maybe I've just had really good luck with groups, but I haven't run into a whole lot of problems - though playing "save the healer" or has gotten me grief from tanks every now and again. By which I mean: some trash B-lines for the healer, I'll AOE the hell out of them and either kill 'em or get them on me. I'm not trying to tank - I'm trying to let the healer do his job minus pushback. Same deal if a silver or higher breaks off and tank isn't trying to get them back or doesn't see them. I won't last very long even with defensive CDs and armor, but will last longer than most healers.

Tend to get grief over unintentional aggro theft as well - what can I say? When the stars align and all my procs are running like a Swiss watch, I can do some decent damage pretty darn fast, especially with high crit chance and high surge on my core attacks which I use A LOT. It's not intentional

  9. Thief most likely, plus the claws make for a decent bonus to Unarmed....oh, nevermind, wrong game;)

Lore-wise, they'd almost only "fit in" on Pub side. I can't picture the Empire training the Cathar as Sith, nor entrusting a "slave species" with safeguarding the Empire's secrets (Agent).

Pretty much just leaves Merc/Powertech - even though a stealth class would fit the whole cat-people thing.

  10. Missile Blast's knockdown doesn't work on players. Weak/normal mobs only.

No kidding...my, that's disappointing - that would have been the one thing that, IMO, would make it really viable in spite of the heat cost. Missile blast with knockdown followed by an Unload would be a nice opener I think.

Well, like I said, I still use it while solo but very rarely if ever in Group work. Perhaps it's more out of habit, but for me, it does serve a purpose as there is no need to channel.

  11. Been saving my Cartel pennies for a bit now (well, more accurately, I never really saw anything on there I really needed) and was eying the +41 crystals. My question is, as a lvl 45 (at the moment) DPS Merc do I want crit or power? My crit at the moment is around 23-24% unbuffed, roughly 30% with class buffs/stims.

Do I need them at all or am I likely to get better stuff in 5 lvls?

  12. I usually use comms and greed rolls on early FP gear to get my comps mostly orange gear - from there I use comms to keep their mods updated as best I can.

Only downside is that a lot of their gear ends up being mismatched and some have phases where they look kinda hobo-ish. Mako is currently sporting the homeless look, but is well set up :)
