  1. after reading all of the pages its just amazing the sort of remarks that you get...either for or against....the thing is, a lot of MMo's these days are adopting this model and its working...cash shops are becoming cash cows and in this buisness its all about the benjamins....surprisingly enough there are a lot of folks who want to play the game and care little for the WZ's and FP's and feel they are paying for content they won't play.....you are given the option to pay or not so really what is the BFD afterall...if you are unsubbing you most likely were anyway especially with GW2 coming out and then when the next MMO comes out you will whine about GW2 and move on to the next etc. and will never be truly happy but always miserable as you lurch about looking for the next best thing.....and if you read the entire spiel you will notice that you are being compensated for all those paid for months in a manner of speaking..

You can't please all the people all the time so don't, if you manage to please some of the people some of the time then you accomplished your goal...........but really, I have never seen so many whiney people then in MMO's when they don't get eveything they think they are entitled too.

I will pay up till the fall and most likely go F2P since I don't want to do the other content at the time and when I do I can always sub up to do so...see its really very easy....adapt or get left behind

I agree that f2p is not necessarily a death sentence and that some people are over-reacting. With that said, going from 2 million to about 600-800k in about half a year...I'm sorry, the "You can't please everyone" argument just doesn't work. Especially when EA is now calling SWTOR a "miss" and they have a history of pulling the plug on something that isn't making a profit. We're not there yet, of course, but if they don't turn it around fast...As I said earlier, I hope they can still pull off a miracle and turn the ship around, but my optimism took quite a hit with that "miss" remark.

  2. You know what is funny in the above quoted text is that they are guessing off what people say, their actions are different. I bet out of the 40 percent that say they will come back due to F2P only 10 percent actually will. They lose 30 percent of the remaining population and gain only 10 percent? Someone at EA can not properly manage a firm correctly.

    Breakeven Analysis = SWTOR + F2P

EA has zero long term goals for SWTOR, therefore, it goes to the firm with the largest killing fields of MMO's - those dastardly EA execs.

The 40% were people who indicated that the sub model was their reason for leaving. "Many" of them said they "might" come back if it was f2p. We're never told how many "many" is so you may very well be right about the 10%.

  3. I have mixed emotions about f2p. I don't think it's necessarily a death sentence by itself, but let's face the facts. 2 million copies sold and current subs are said in the call to be 'well over' half million (notice they didn't say 'just under' a million, I think there are inferences available there). No matter what the actual sub numbers are (600-800k I'm guessing, and yes, it's just a guess over a significant range lol) the fact remains that less than a million people felt this game was worth paying a monthly sub for. I'm sorry, but there's simply no credible, positive way to spin it (especially when they say on the call this title is a 'miss but made up for by BF3''). I don't believe that all of that 40% who said they left due to the subscription model are coming back even if 'many' of them said they would (how many is 'many' btw?).

Look, I'm not a hater. I looked forward to this game, had high hopes and spent alot of time defending this game from its naysayers. But there are things I disagreed with and as soon as I voiced them with suggestions, I was branded a hater even though I overall was happy with the game and was just trying to make suggestions that I felt could improve the game. Many others had the same experience I had. I'm not saying my suggestions would have 100% saved the game (enough people disagree with me that I'm open to the idea some of my suggestions may have made it worse, though deep down I don't think so). But there's a reason why some games succeed and some don't. Many good suggestions by many people were ignored and/or villified (on at least a couple of subjects by the devs themselves).

Despite all that, I'm still subbed and still hope this game can turn things around. I'm just not as optomistic as I used to be.

  4. Hi

My sub expires on the 27th and I simply cant enjoy this game due to the sluggish performance. Even on low settings it runs poorly on my laptop. I have a I7 @ 2.2 ghz, 8gb ram, ATI 7690 2gb card and it just runs like crap. I have games line Alan Wake, MP3 and BF3 on max settings with AA 8x and they look and play spectacularly.

Ok so I can put up with poor graphics, it is SW after all but it runs bad on low settings too! Tried pvp and it was just awful performance.

I mean the graphics are not exactly amazing so there should not be a problem to run on my laptop. The main problem is in PVP, it becomes so sluggish that I have no idea what is going on.

Custumer service is non existent in this game, I post in tech support and no reponse.

I guess this game was simply not meant for my computer or my laptop was not meant for this game.

OP, try the following thread. Many who have had the same problem, including myself, found this helpful:

    http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=470077&page=4

Edit: I forgot I bookmarked page 4 and am used to just hitting the page 1 link after going there lol. Yes, I'm lazy.

  5. Nobody ever wants to hear this, but every "jerk" group you're in has one thing in common. Can you figure out what it is?

When I use group finders in MMOs, I generally have very positive experiences.

It's posts like this by Caelrie that make me wish we had a thumbs-up button to click on.

  6. And people want cross server group finder?

Every time i posted why that was a bad idea i would get flamed, but right here is a perfect example on why cross server group finder would be terrorible, this issue would go up ten fold, mark my words.

You're ignoring the fact that all of the bad behavior described in this thread existed in MMO's long before WoW developed its x-server tool and it existed in this game long before the current same server tool. In fact, I've seen more of this type of behavior in the general chat spam groups then I've seen since the group finder came out (and people claim self policing on same server prevents this type of behavior...LMAO!). Were there bad groups in WoW? Yes, but most were good. I can say the same of the same server groups too. If you have a problem with the tool, simply don't use it and only group with firends...problem solved.

  7. For the same reason you will never hear someone say "We would have won that match if we just had more tanks on our team." But look at the bright side, your not going to get blamed for the loss.

LOL, give it time. Sooner or later someone will start saying: "You're a tank!!!! No wonder we lost! We could have had someone with a real PvP spec in your spot! You fail! And because of that we failed!" Trust me, sooner or later it's going to happen (if it hasn't already somewhere). ;)

  8. 1. healers always get chased around/ganked/ganged upon.

a tank can always dps but a healer can never dps.

    2. usually mvp is given to those who go out of their way to secure match objective, instead of lawlawlawlfacerollkeyboardohlookiseered!

for instance someone who has scored several times in huttball

or a healer who has really been on the ball, almost never letting people die.

Very well said! I almost NEVER give my vote to the top damage dealer, since too often it's some moron who just goes off and fights without helping with objectives (the infamous 'road warriors' who are allergic to flags, nodes, etc.). I like being able to give that vote to who I feel actually helped with the wz.

I'll never forget one AB I did in WoW. My hunter ended up staying at farm because noone else did. They spent their time getting their 'leet' damage numbers up. Alliance attacked farm constantly. To their credit, my teammates did usually respond quickly when I called out the incoming and I was a good enough hunter to prevent the flag from being taken long enough for the others to arrive. We somehow managed a victory and then at the end, I looked at the scoreboard and saw that I only had 1/3 of the honor that the road fighters had. I quit WoW pvp that day.

So no, top damage dealers don't get my mvp vote unless they get those numbers while helping with team objectives.

  9. Another vague interview where nothing new is really said. What a surprise.

Also, did anyone else click on the video they had linked to that site? it was the old 1.2 patch update and I got a pretty good lol at the beginning when ohlen says we're not like other mmos we kept our original dev team so we can continue producing quality...LOL

Yea, I lol'd at that too. Very funny for that video to be so prominent in that particular article.

  10. True, rudeness seems to be the norm these days. I can still remember when people were actually polite in MMO's.

There have always been rude people in MMO's. And I still find MOST people polite. MOST people are receptive (and often grateful) for the occasionaly kind suggestion.

  11. Welcome to MMO's OP. All of the bad behavior that people are mentioning here, existed long before the group finder in "that other game." It also existed in this game before the tool came out. I guess I've been lucky, all of my groups via the tool so far have been good (just as the vast majority of my lfd groups in that other game were).
  12. Because the folly of running Denova (regardless of the mode) with a PuG is immeasurable.

Sadly, I must agree with this. Our guild does EV HM and KP HM in our sleep...and we still haven't downed Kephess on story mode yet (we just came together after the merge so I'm actually happy with our progress). The other Denova bosses we have down pretty well, but I still hesitate to say we have them on 'farm'.

  13. On my heal spec'd Scoundrel, I actually use Risha. Once she's geared, she kills things so fast and has enough survivability that I can easily heal her through any of the intended solo content, and with the use of CC's I can even solo some of the 2 man content.

I took a similar approach with my heal spec'd Operative once he got Temple.

My Vanguard tank uses Elara exclusively, My Sentinel switches between Kira and Doc (Doc sometimes forgets he's a healer...moreso than the other heal comps in my experience lol). My Marauder uses Quinn. Most of my other toons are still with their first comps since most of them either haven't got any new ones yet or I don't like the ones they have so far.

  14. No thanks. I don't care for pvp and that is why i chose a rp/pve. If someone has no interest in pvp this should not happen.

Agreed! Outside of warzones and designated PvP areas, the only way a person should become flagged on a PvE server is if they manually toggle the flag. On a PvE server, a person should be able to quest without any concern about becoming flagged. They should be able to use their full rotation when fighting quest mobs without worrying if their aoe attacks hit a flagged member of opposite faction who is lurking in stealth (or who runs in). They should be able to right click on a questgiver or quest item without worrying about a flagged opponent jumping in their way as they click. They should be able to use their companions without worrying about the comp pulling them into PvP. When entering an FP, Op or instanced heroic, all members of the party who are flagged should be automatically unflagged so that buffs can be given and heals administered without that act flagging you.

In short, as I've said in other posts, avoiding PvP on a PvE server should entail no extra effort/precaution on the part of the player (even if some of us have played MMO's long enough that those precautions are second nature lol).

  15. I dont mind it personally... makes the game a little less monotonous... adds an edge when running round planets for codex, crons and .. oooh yeah thos kill 15, now kill 40 pegs in the ground quests...

Me and a guildy were just running round Quesh getting story out the way and collecting some crons when we got hit on by a couple of lvl40 Sith out of the blue... so my little lvl 35 Scoundrel and lvl 36 Commando buddy gave them a lesson in manners then waved at them... only to be met with volley of name calling and bad mouthing accusing us of getting in the way of their quests... hmmm so we get attacked and its our fault.. with that we stayed out of sight and waited for them to return ... and they did.. and again.. and again.. until they decided to bring reinforcements with them after their 4th mauling :)

So I say.. whether its a PvE or PvP server... faction contact should be more than allowed, it should be expected... then maybe there would be more planetary grouping rather than just flashpoint queuing.. just my 2 cents

So we should just make all servers PvP? No thanks! PvE servers are PvE for a reason. If you want the excitement of having to look over your shoulder then a PvP server is where you should be.

  16. I play on The Harbinger and have stopped doing dalies because of this kind of behavior. In fact I've pretty much stopped playing my level 50's altogether and have just been leveling alts. Sadly, I see the end of my time on SWTOR coming soon, as I'm not interested in dealing with this kind of thing at all.

On a PvE server, If I set myself as not flagged for PvP, this should be a definite NO PvP setting.. meaning I nor my companion can damage other players and they can't attack me or my companions. If I have this flag set off, I should not be able to be flagged under any circumstances (on a PvE server).

I gave up on the Rakghoul event because of the same behavior.

Grinding dailies sucks bad enough without having to deal with this kind of crap.

I understand exactly what you're saying. I still do those dailies once in a while if I'm in a full guild group, therefore noone with a companion out, but doing them solo without a comp? Not an option for a heal spec'd toon (actually it could be done, but way too much of a pain...my T1/T2 equipped Risha knocks stuff down quickly lol). If I need money from dailies, it's Ilum and Belsavis for me...not as many roving bands...though I'm getting mighty tired of those lol. I too spend alot of time on the alts of late.

  17. That's hilarious! I'm on Drooga's Pleasure Barge.... My apology will never ever reach it's intended recipient now!!!

I've never entered the Imp base as a Republic player, but I'm fairly certain you can enter in to the first area; there is a little entry way where you access the elevators on the Pub side. You obviously can't go DOWN the elevator.

I definitely see your point about "ganking/grieving" non-pvp players in that area, but remember that these players had their flags up and attacked us back for being in "their area." I died countless times (yes, sometimes 1vs8 too). After reading all the posts here, I can't decide if Pub/Imp targeting is really a bad thing on PVE servers; is it really malicious? We are supposed to be enemies aren't we?. It seems that the community is rather split on the issue.

*off to ponder the morality of managing a bunch of pixels on my computer screen*

LOL! My Imperial toons are on DPB. My healing Operative just hit 50, and my wife's sniper just hit 49 so we may see each other soon ;)

Refering to another of your posts, if you censured your comrade and apologized, then that's cool and I apologize my for my earlier criticism. You clearly weren't part of the roving bands on Harbinger (and if I haven't said it before, I'm fully aware that this behavior is not limited to Empire players).

As for the other posts, I know my philosophy/opinion on PvE servers may be a minority opinion and if so, so be it. That's life. As I said in another post though, if Bioware would just fix the exploits and actually punish the exploiters, I'd be ok with leaving the settings as is. It still feels silly though for someone to have to put in extra effort to avoid PvP on a PvE server when all they're doing is killing quest mobs.

  18. While I can certainly understand there are groups out there that will "force the flag", as I stated earlier, we were not doing that at all. All of the players that were fighting each other had actively put on their own PVP flags. We weren't preventing people from questing. If you wanted to quest, you simply had to turn off your PVP flag. I'm not sure why this is so confusing. We would never stage something like that on a planet that had pre-50s.

Yes, there are designated PVP areas on our server, but if the game was intended to only have world PVP in those areas on PVE servers, why are we even able to activate our flags in other areas?

While I understand that the majority of the issues are arising from the exploitable PVP flag, it feels that what you are arguing is that we shouldn't be allowed to kill the opposite faction, let alone, gather a group of Imps (in our case) and take on an equal sized group of Pubs.

I feel like a bad guy here because we initiated something different on our server. Kind of a shame :(

If someone consciously flags themself willingly then have at it. I actually have no issue with "If it's red, it's dead" as long as the person's name is in red by their own conscious choice. Despite that, my philosophy is that PvE servers are PvE for a reason, just as PvP servers are PvP for a reason. If someone complains about getting ganked on a PvP server, they are met (rightly) with sarcasm and then suggestions to reroll on a PvE server. Why can't the reverse be true? You yourself, if I read right, admited that someone in your group tested the exploit to see if it can be done. Testing an exploit is still exploiting, so yes, your group is part of the problem (if I read wrong, my apologies).

If the only people you had attacked were people who willingly flagged, then no, you were not guilty of griefing (my statements still stand against the wolfpacks that are very clearly griefing). I still feel that PvP should be limited to DESIGNATED PvP areas such as on Tatooine, Ilum, warzones or on PvP servers (I do sympathize with those who complain about the limitations of PvP-able areas on PvP servers btw).

  19. Unless your in a warzone area of a planet no this should not happen to you. Its only on the RP-PVE Servers where imp players can attack Rep Players with no warning at all. My advice is to stay away from the Warzone areas unless you really need to be in them. This has never happened to me once since I started playing and hopefully I am able to keep it from happening to me.

You're right...it SHOULD not happen, but it does due to a bug that the wolfpacks are exploiting. They stand next to a player's comp, do an aoe and then the comp bugs and attacks, flagging the unsuspecting player. Many of us have seen this exploit and have reported it...to no avail. To be clear, it hasn't happened to me yet, but I've seen it happen to others. I've learned from the misfortune of others to dismiss my comp when I see the wolfpacks arrive, and I know from previous MMO's not to buff or group with someone who has their name in green and to take my aoe attacks out of my rotation when yellow named players show up on the scene. But as some of the others have said, we should not have to go to that level of effort to avoid PvP on a PvE server! If you want world PvP, roll on a PvP server or at least go to the designated PvP areas! Amazes me that this is such a difficult concept for some.

  20. I don't disagree with you. Being on a PVE server, that is your right to quest in peace and not be bothered by others. But I'll assume that, since you're dedicated to not fighting in open world pvp, your pvp flag is always off. This is fine and this is completely your decision. No one judges that.

There is a reason why SWTOR implemented pvp flags for PVE servers. If you turn on your flag, you are basically telling everyone that you are interested in engaging into combat with the opposing faction. If I see a red player, I WILL attack it. How can you be upset about this?

Seeing that communication is poor with the opposite faction, how else would you suggest initiating an open pvp event other than just start killing players in a particular area and hope that people will come out to play.

Despite being a PVE server, we had a really great turnout and response to our shenanigans the other night; this tells me that people LIKE having the option to engage in world pvp.

    Meh.

I understand what you are saying. The issue here, however, is a bug that allows these wolfpacks to grief people who just want to PvE. These wolfpacks know about it and no, they are not looking for world PvP, they're looking to grief (it's not just Black Hole, btw, it's 50's hitting the quest areas of Hoth and other planets as well...don't even TRY to tell me they're doing something other than griefing!). If you want world PvP on a PvE server, there's a place on Ilum and one on Tatooine for that. If you can't work up some world PvP there, then that tells me it's not as popular as you might think. Did you consider that the great response you got was due to people wanting to help out fellow guildies/friends who you were preventing from questing as opposed to an actual love of world PvP?

  21. In direct response to the OP:

I believe that myself and my guildies were responsible for this particular incident.

We had an ops group that was planning on raiding until we heard news in general chat that there was some open world pvp occurring on the Black Hole. As a group we went over to participate. Upon finding no real pvp, we decided to create some of our own.

We camped out in front of the pub base and proceeded to kill any and all pubs that tried to enter the area. I know that there was ONE incident where a group member pulled someone into a pvp flag (I think he wanted to see if it actually worked), but as a group we definitely decided that griefing wasn't something that we were interested in. I apologize if this individual was you. Our goal was to entice the pubs to come out for some open PVP. And did they ever!!!!

Within about 20 minutes, we had a group of at least 15 pubs storm out of their base and proceed to smash us to bits! We re-gathered and recruited about 10 more players and came back with force! We had about another hour of really solid (and fair) PVP; it was the most fun we've had in a REALLY long time. We even infiltrated their spawn area and had to juggle fighting their guardians plus any incoming pubs.

I don't know if anyone actually "won" but I do know that SWTOR would be much more fun if things like this happened on a more regular basis. I apologize to the people that got 8 vs.1'd, but if that happens in the future, your job as a responsible pub is to recruit your friends and fight back for control of important areas like BH (or at least turn off your flag if you're not interested in pvp).

Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to put it into perspective from the alleged griefers/no-lifes/bored ppl/etc.

    Cheers!

I'm glad you had some fun. I remember the old days in Vanilla WoW when we had some epic pitched battles in STV, Hillsbrad, summoning stones, etc. Those were fun....however they were on PvP servers. Reroll there if you want that kind of fun.
