  1. Please try that at level 30 or 35. I found that the game gets considerably harder everytime I reach a new planet. I'm not a hardcore gamer, but not what you'd call a n00b, either. I consider myself an average gamer who likes a challenge from time to time but prefers a win to outweigh a failure. No, I don't want it handed to me, but more than 3 tries already frustrate me. That's just the way I am. As for the idea to implement a difficulty slider for solo content. I ask: How? A lot of the solo content is open world. Now how do you want to change the mob difficulty without affecting those who like it "normal" or in "carebear-mode" ? More instancing? Then we'd have the whining about too many instances (which we have quite a bit of already). Personally, and again, I must stress that this is my own opinion, I find the balance between challenge and easy just ok the way it is.
  2. Now we're getting somewhere. A structured request on how to do things better. See, it wasn't so hard, was it? However, it was pretty appearent in early access that BW doesnt like to communicate certain things. I don't like that either but I see the reason behind it. Expectations. Whenever you tell something to someone that someone will automatically expect results in a certain timeframe. And from what I see here on the forums, no matter what BW will say or do..there will always be those who demand stuff be re-prioritized, re-timed or re-structured to fit their sole needs. And while those people may(!) be right in their own mind, they might not be in others thoughts. What I'm trying to say is: They can't, never ever and no matter what they do, cater to everyone. All it takes to realize that is an open mind and some common sense. Not saying you don't have either, but maybe your priorities aren't on the same page as BWs.
  3. Then, and I already regret it: Don't wait. Yes, this is the typical "fanboy love it or leave it" answer, but what else do you expect?
  4. And this is where you err. Your feeble attempt of humour aside, you will be argueing opinions, not rock-hard facts. Thus no one will win. No one will ever be able to change your mind, because I believe you don't want it to be changed. You say red > blue > white. I say white > red > blue. Who is right? Who is wrong? Or to be more blunt: I like this game and nothing (in words: nothing) you (!) say, write or spray-paint on walls will change that. And vice versa nothing I say will ever change that you have some serious issues with this game. Whether rightly so or not is irrelevant. Does this (young) game has flaws? Yes, definitely, and this is the only thing we can agree upon. Am I willing to give the team the time to fix those? Yes, definitely. Are you willing to do that? It seems not.
  5. Actually it can. Game breaking bugs can't, everything else can. I lol'd
  6. Hi guys, I just want to leave my mark real quick in this thread, before I have to endure a 4 hour downtime (bummer). Let me say first, I agree with the OP. I love the game so far, yes there are glitches, but I'm confident, they will be eradicated...eventually. I for one am willing to give BW the chance to fix before raging. Having said that, I often read that yes...WoW had 7 years to develop but this is 2011 and BW should have done things blizzard did years ago. Now the thought that just crossed my mind is: This is Bioware's first MMO..first as in, they havent done this before. Yes, they have created many good and enjoyable games, but an MMO is a different story. It's not "just" a game, there are tons of factors which are different to an soloplayer RPG. Now, the devs can look at other games all they want, but what they need is experience. OK, for that they got Mythic on board and for a first timer, I think it's a good product. Now for the rest, that can be improved on or what, according to many vocals here should have been takern right from WoW. How do you think this would be accomplished? Do you really think, Bioware is going to call Blizzard and ask them for their code so they can copy/paste it? Maybe send some spies over there to steal the code? Or...maybe, just MAYBE they have to figure some things out for themselves. Oh dear, what a horrible thought that a competing company would not help a newcomer in the field of MMOs. Now, even if some may say it, I'm not here to brown-nose, but even if you call me names or fanboi or whatever...sticks and stones... I just want to bring an aspect on the table that hasnt been mentioned before, at least as far as I can tell. (With so much hate AND praise, it's hard to follow everything that has been said)
  7. Greetings, I have to agree with those who like the graphics. We went into the dark temple on Dromuund Kaas yesterday for the first time and I actually had to stop and tell my mates to look around. The level of detail was simply amazing in my eyes. Yes, there is stuff that can, should and probably will be improved. (my glass is always half full, not half empty ) But what we have now already, I like. Of course this is all opinion, and if you'd rather have another BF3 or Skyrim you can not be satisfied, no matter what the devs do and no matter what all the rest of the world is going to say. Also, I read in the OP that you didn't bother with the PvE stuff. I may have misunderstood but you do realize that one of the main, if not THE main perk of this game is story, right? It's what people (should) expect when they play a Bioware game, and even you have to admit that they are doing a very good job with it. Anyway, you have your opinions, and I might not share them. But I want to ask that you keep an open mind and see the game for what it is..not for what you want it to be. But you said, you love the game and have a 3 month sub. Good man. And with a bit of patience, I really hope your gripes will be dealt with. That they will fix stuff, I mean, not with bans and stuff.
  8. Dear, is this still going..wow..errr Hmm...did my browser just update itself over night and directs me to the W*W forums? *checks website* No, thank god, still SW:Tor here. Man, you frightened me for a moment there. I humbly ask you...can you talk about wow on their forums? Comparing to a certain degree..well I have to live with it I guess...but making this a whole wow thread? Please don't. Just....don't?
  9. Currently I don't see the NEED to do anything other than raising the server caps how they see fit and let queues even themselves out, like has happened on so many MMO launches before. And they will, make no mistake. I don't like waiting times either. My wife just sent me a mail, that she has a 50 minutes queue on her server. That was lunch time here in Germany. Now guess what it looks like, when I get home from work in about 2 hours. For sure not better. So no, I don't like them, but I will endure them. Because I know, it will be better in a bit. No need to shoot from the hip. How do I know? I've seen it before...and I'll see it again.
  10. Well, usually you don't want to have the hassle of arranging players from this server to that server in addition to the other launch craziness. There are more important things now. We don't know the actual server limits, so it is possible they still have lots of room to spare and really only don't use it, because they try to distribute the amount of players evenly onto the servers. So, if they are trying that and are offering server transfers now, that idea is out of the window. Because what happens if (just to name a few numbers) 500 players from server X all decide to transfer to server Z. They all apply for that transfer and it is accepted and everything is fine. Meanwhile server Z becomes the server of the day, because it is one of the non-full servers, so there are 400 chars created there. During the next maint-cycle the server transfer script is running through. Guess what could happen. Now Server X is not full, but server Z is. Mission accomplished, players...unhappy...again. So while I agree that such a system is good, and definitely should be offered to those who wish to use it later on, it should not be implemented right after launch.
  11. I'm glad that you know how their database is structured. So why don't you just create a server transfer tool, which will make sure, that nothing goes wrong. It's comparatively simple, isn't it? And here I wonder why database managers and analysts earn so much money. I'm afraid you underestimate the amount of things that can be wrong. Yes, there ARE tools for database migration, but usually, every single database that deserves the name is hand tailored to specific needs. So where to begin? Again, it's not that easy. But of course we can have some half-assed front and backend to transfer (or better yet, just copy) data from one database to another. Enjoy the hate when things go wrong like missing items. And don't tell me people will gladly accept the loss of, say, their speeder skill if just one field was selected wrong. I don't believe that for a milisecond.
  12. I'd have never thought this possible but I'm 100% with Sarah here. ( Yes, we had our non-disagreement-moments ) There's still hope...for all of us.
  13. In before downmouthing...oh..too late. Anyway, I agree with the OP. Too bad it won't change much.
  14. Then you must have heard about data integrity and duplicates? All you need is a player with the same name as you. And maybe that isn't even the hardest part. Just add a -1 to the name, I'm sure, the transferring player will be very happy. But then take into account the 100.000's of other data within a database for one server alone. Have fun. Migrating databases is not as easy as you make it out to be. This isn't just some little CD Home database.
  15. Compared to other endeavors prolly not too hard, BUT.... It has been said that they don't want to restrict people on their server choice. They can try to direct ppl to other servers which they are doing with queues. How would you like it, if you didn't have EGA, you just got the product code and your friends are already on Server X to have the game tell you "Sorry, this server is full, you cannot create a new character here. Please try again when the population has decreased or find a non-full Server. Thank you for your cooperation." This way, the people at least have the option to wait. In your scenatio they don't. So, although your intentions were good, want to rethink your idea?
  16. But they are doing that. It's called a queue and it prevents you to log in until you have reached your place in said queue. And there is really no other way, because the second one logs out, and the server wouldn't be unlocked, no one could enter. Thus, whenever someone logs out, it's not full, but there's one place open, which is immediately taken. and BAM server full again. OK, enough common sense. Yeah..let me in, then lock the server, who cares about the rest, as long as I can join the server, everything is fine.
  17. See, that is exactly my point. They don't care now. But if changes are made, they have to "re-learn" to play with new response times and such. And then they will care and we come to full circle. Basically all I'm humbly asking is to give Bioware the time to gather information about the issues and then act accordingly. It may turn out they will cater to your needs, it may turn out that they don't. It's up to them, really. To me, this isn't about who is right or who is wrong. It's about trying (at least some of you please try) to give them a chance to figure things out before raging.
  18. I see why you used WoW in this case as a reference and I don't fault you for that...this time. I'm just so fed up with the constant comparing, it's not even funny anymore...sorry that you had to take the blunt for this. But on your take, it is highly subjective. In this thread are a lot of people who have no problem. And if the game feels different, some adapt and play with what they have. Now, and this is important, I'm in no way saying, that TOR is perfect and can't use improvements in some ways, but I am hesitant when things are demanded (and some in here actually demand...not ask, but flat out tell Bioware: "gimme that or else") which do not affect the whole playerbase in the same way. Now imagine, Bioware listens to the most vocal part (not judging majority/minority things) and makes changes. Those, who had no problem at all would be gobsmacked and had to learn a totally new gameplay, or adapt to a new feeling, timing and such. Can you picture the outcries? I can, and it's not pretty. Sure, you can ask, why didn't they implement a (in your eyes) good and fast responsive system in the first place? And maybe from your POV that is a legitimate question. But the fact remains, that we have to deal with what we have now. Half-assed solutions on a quick-quick basis serve no one and could destroy more than repair. Wow (no pun intended)..wall of text...sorry
  19. Sorry..I literally stopped reading there. When will you people understand that this game is not that other game? When, I ask you? And I'll ask again, for good measure: WHEN ??? I am almost begging here on my knees to have you all understand and just stop it. No, I'm not going to tell you again, that this = Star Wars: The Old Repulic and this != World of Warcraft. I want you to figure that out for yourself, but I won't hold my breath until you do. That'd be certain death for me.
  20. And that thread got deleted, that's why we're here now. It's not much different from the other one. And one that will be part of cleansing phase one tomorrow when the grace period will be over. Phase 2: 28 days and counting (thanks to Mutharex for that one )
  21. LOL, excuse me? Game launch was yesterday and yes, newsflash: Queues happen at launch time (approx. 1 week into launch) when a highly anticipated game is released. Surprising, I know. People who actually want to play the game. The horror. No, seriously now. I'm afraid, we all have to deal with this for a bit longer but if this is like other launches, the queues will get smaller and smaller each day from now on.
  22. Dang, I need to stop responding to threads which will get deleted. Just lost a couple of posts. But then..me posting in them could be a way to get them deleted. Muhahahaha... Hotte censorship all the way. j/k P.S.: Don't get too worked up over a game. Don't forget to have fun once in a while, scroogies.
  23. As for the warning, I feel for you, yesterday I got one for exposing an obvious troll..ah well. As for the rest...What exactly is your gripe now? That you bought a new product where little information on handling is available and that information which is, is highly biased in one or the other direction? You took a risk, it bit you in the butt. This happens millions of times a day, to everyone out there. Such is live. A good hint could have been the reports from beta, but instead of waiting to see if it changed you had to get the game now. I fail to see how anyone is to blame here but you. If you see yourself as a idiot and a [insert dangerous M-word here], then well...what can I say? You know yourself best. Self-pity won't change anything.
