  1. Bioware I see what you tried to do by allowing people to lose and still get matches, as this would allow gear challenged people to still get the daily done and the intent is a good thing. But now I kid you not there are scrubs that don't care and just run around throwing out an attack or heal once in a while so they don't get voted out of a match or kicked for being afk. You've now made it so that players don't even have to try to win to get their daily done.

It needs to change seriously before this ruins pvp... make it they also have to get a certain amount of medals to get credit for the loss or something. I don't know how else you would do it but this new daily is crap. Do we get credit for failing repeatedly on a boss fight? F no...so please come up with another design to still allow people that are getting wrecked to get the daily done w/o letting people just sit back and accept losses.

I've been seeing a lot of posts saying this, but it makes no sense at all. If people are actually doing this, they're genuinely stupid, or intentionally trolling their own faction. To afk their way through 6 WZ's just for a daily reward of 99 comms and 99 rated comms, when they could make that in EACH wz with a minimum of effort simply defies all reason. They would have to be quite literally sick in the head.

  2. I don't know, I actually enjoy the large size of my ship, and all the ladies that visit my big ship seem to enjoy it as well. It may be a tight fight in the docking bay, but that just makes the maneuvering more fun.

Also consider that my large ship has enormous thrust, much more than smaller ships. And because of the size of my ship, the motion is smooth and steady.

Now I agree with the OP that navigating around my big ship can be difficult, but I don't mind giving guided tours. It's fun to explore, and I'm always finding something new and fun to do with my big ship.

You, sir, have mastered the double entendre.

  3. Cool story bro. I get ~130 comms for a win and 50-80 for a loss. Two to three losses to get equal rewards to one win match. I perform consistently, as does the rest of my group, the pugs are the only variables really. Why stay with **** pugs and lose when you can just requeue and not have to deal with ~10 minutes of fail and frustration? Especially if that's gotta happen three times in a row to balance it out.

What ever happened to playing the game to have fun? The whole point (which apparently flew right over the top of your head) of my "cool story" as you so quaintly put it, is that I didn't quit, and I had fun, regardless of the reward. But, here's the kicker, I was still rewarded! No, not as much as if my team had won, but I had fun, and that's what I pay $15 a month for. Not for virtual medals. If your only enjoyment come from how many comms you get per day, then I pity you friend. Something's missing in your life.

  4. idiots who think winning is everything are always going to be idiots. Last night I ended up in a 5 -8 WZ where our op leader said "lets just stand over here and dance, since we can't win". Myself and one other player decided to go down swinging and ran over to a lightly guarded turret and proceeded to hold our own without dying the entire match. We didn't take the turret, we lost miserably, but the two of us got 9 medals each. Didn't help my daily, but it was still a good reward. It was a hell of a lot of fun and just as rewarding as a win, minus the daily count. We have incentive, it's just that people's stupid ego's can't take an honorable loss.
  5. How do you know the cost. It does not have them listed they could be entirely reasonable like the emotes, 100-200k per level. You don't know the prices so why are you crying in anger over something that isn't even in yet.

This is just what I was about to say. Many 50's have never seen 500k, much less 1mill, so to price xp boosts at those prices would be asinine. Take a deep breath and calm down. They may be character specific, but to make assumptions about prices and spew your mountain dew all over your monitor isn't going to help anything. I swear I can't figure out how half the posters on these forums haven't already stroked out due to high blood pressure.

  6. However, you were able to finish your dailies in pvp gear, did you not? Now, try taking your PvE gear into a warzone, and report back your observation of your performance there. Secondly, his comparison is War Hero to Campaign gear, and how one is viable in two places and one is not. Using Recruit gear is no where near War Hero.

Yeah, I was wearing recruit. But (if you read my post) my pve gear is also entry level too, so i am very much talking apples to apples. Plus, I was doing dailies, not hard modes or ops for God's sake. But it's obvious to many of us that despite what you say, what you want is to be competitive in pvp with your raid gear and not have to earn pvp gear like the rest of us are doing. Seriously, I pve and pvp, and its tough, because I devide my time and have to earn twon sets of gear. In my opinion, that's a good thing. Without a goal to shoot for, games get boring really quickly.

  7. I've been PVE'ing for a long time, and just started PVP'ing. I ran my dailies in my recruit gear with 2 pieces BM last night, and while it wasn't difficult per se, I noticed a distinct dip in performance due to the drop in primary stats. My PVE gear wasn't raid by any stretch of the imagination, just orange with blue 50 with some purple 51 mods. The OP is going to refuse to believe anything we say because it doesn't fit his view of how he want s it to be.
  8. Yeah, you're missing quests. I never did heroics because i didn't want to wait for groups, and I was always at least 2-3 levels higher than recommended. I played around with space, but not enough to make a serious impact. Are you a stealth class and avoiding enemies? I suppose that could have an effect by the time hoth comes around.
  9. To be honest I think before you got good pvp gear I'd take either tank or healing spec. DPS is very squishy even with good gear. And if you don't do fantastic dps and can't stay alive you are not going to be very effective. With not so good gear damage goes up longer you stay up and you are able to influence more game too.

The pvp experience you mention can vary a lot. Since most of time both sides are random groups there is no way to tell how players will behave or which side is more professional.

It is a good thing and a bad thing. It is a bad thing when own side is losing because people don't play together. But remember it works other way around too. Other side makes mistakes too and doesn't play together. Naturally good and experienced players will try to use this at their advantage.

Personally I actually like PUGs(random groups). Each game is totally unpredictable, anything can happen.

I see what you're saying here. While arsenal mercs are indeed slightly squishy, I'm kind of a stubborn SOB and, what can I say, I really like the spec. And in all fairness, I make a decent showing of myself. I know my role and my abilities and I play them well, and even though yesterday was my first foray into WZ's, I was never at the bottom of the list. (for what that's worth). I even received 2 MVP votes, believe it or not, for holding a turret on my own despite getting my stubborn butt splattered all over it time and again. Besides, if MMO's have taught me anything, it's that the nerf cycle will turn again and one day I won't be so squishy, and if I can handle it ok now, I'll be unstoppable then, right? :D

As far as your point about the good side of pugs, that's certainly a view I hadn't considered. Hopefully, soon some guildies will be up to 50, and it'll be a moot point, because I have to say, I've really enjoyed it so far.

  10. Unfortunately as a Merc your job is either dps or healing as much as possible. Other classes are more suited to completing most objectives. It reeks but often enough you'll have to depend on others. I suggest getting a good Assassin/Warrior friend ASAP. You kill or heal and support him as he does what your class ain't so good at.

This is exactly my thoughts. I was only trying for objectives at all because no one else was doing it. I guess I thought that maybe I could pull the random group of stranger into some semblance of a team through example, but that was a big flop :)

  11. I guess that's what really got me. I THINK I know what I ought to be doing, but for all I know, I may be running around being completely useless like you're describing. But there's no communication going on at all, much less constructive feedback or advice inside the matches. If I try to ask questions, I gt told to guard something, because I'm wearing recruit and have low valor., and that must mean I don't know what I'm doing I guess. But at this rate, I'll be wearing WH and have max valor and still not know what I'm doing. Heh.
  12. I'm a long time PVE player, but as my guild is almost all <50, dailies are about all I have to do at this point, and that was getting a bit boring. So, I decided to just run black hole each day and then jump into PVP to have some fun. I tend to do my research diligently before I start anything, and I did so here as well. However, no amount of research can really prepare you for experiencing things first hand, so I picked up the recruit set and dove in to my first WZ last night. I did a total of about 8-10 or so, i didn't really keep track. After awhile, I got the major hang of things, but a couple of things really struck me. Since i'm queue'ing solo, I'm thrown into a group with a lot of random people. At the match start, everyone just goes running off into the sunset to do their thing, leaving me with no idea whats going on. The map instructions are pretty vague, but thankfully, I already knew what to expect because I had read up on it. But the chaos is what was remarkable. People in the random groups seem solely focused on killing and completely blind to objectives. In voidstar, for instance, a huge melee is going on in front of both doors. As a DPS merc I was trying to keep the enemy off the back of my team mates so they could try to set the bombs, yet the second I'd drop their assailant, they'd only find another fight instead of trying for the objective. If I tried for the objective, I'd get cut down with no support. Is this normal? I'd like to get better at PVP, but out of 8-10 or so matches I managed to be on the wilnning side only once, due to this kind of thing. What do you guys recommend?
  13. So expertise is worth less on the item stat budget even though it's the most overpowered stat in PvP? It does more in one stat then any of the other stats in PvE. It increases damage, mitigation and healing.

Expertise has no value at all in PVE. If you take that out of your equation, assuming your numbers are correct, (I'm not bothering to verify them right now), the WM set is actually weaker than the campaign, thus the exact opposite of your point is the result we would draw from your data.

  14. It's an interesting question, and could make for a good discussion. Examples like Yoda, Tyranus, and Maul are tough to define. Those 3 don't really fit into any of the game classes. Even though the BW devs said they modeled the sith assassin after Maul, it doesn't really fit other than he uses a DB lightsaber. He seems much more of a warrior than a stealth type. Tyranus throws a lot of lightning around, yet he was, according to lore, an expert duelist who even invented his own lightsaber form. Most would probably say Yoda was a Sage, yet he was reportedly one of the best examplars with a lightsaber. Luke, also, is tough.

I think that the game idea of pushing a character more towards force using or lighsaber wielding, tanking or DPS'ing, is, of course, just for balancing and game mechanics and not to try and match up to SW characters per se anyway. But I'm at work and bored, and I love discussing SW, so, any port in a storm, right?

  15. You saw what he did when he saw his Mother die right?

I can imagine something similar would occur if Padme died, Palpatine or no Palpatine.

Yes, but again that's not a result of the relationship. That's a result of Anakin himself. His arrogance, his anger, his lack of control. He always felt entitled. HE was the most powerful. HE deserved to be promoted to the council. How dare the universe take HIS mother from HIM. His fall was not because of his relationships, it because he was weak.

  16. I disagree, jedi's can see vision that sometimes come true and sometimes do not. Yoda addresses this and so do some of the other jedi/sith masters.

Anakin's visions may very well have been real, but that doesn't change his point that Palpatine's influence had a large impact on Anakin's fall, and without that influence, his relationship with Padme may have not had any consequences. Certainly Anakin would never had been lead to believe that the Dark side could keep her from dieing without Palpatines influence.

  17. It's not even the consequences of Anakin's relationship with Padme... it's the consequences of his relationship with Palpatine! If Anakin & Palpie weren't friends, if Palpatine hadn't been influencing him for years... then Anakin never would've had those visions of Padme dying. Many even argue that Palpatine himself CAUSED the dreams directly (he references them, I think, before Anakin goes to tell Mace about Palpie being Sith), so without Palpatine everything would've been fine. Even Anakin's arrogance was in large part fed by Palpatine's praise and 'guidance'.

And that's exactly my point! It's why I've always felt like the Jedi rule against relationships was likely an over-time perversion of a caution against this sort of thing. Given that the Jedi order has lasted who knows how many thousands of years, I can easily see a teaching of "be wary of your relationships, because they can cause you to lose focus and become tempted by the Dark Side" slowly become "don't have any relationships at all, young Padawan!".

Like I was saying earlier, that's what lead to my theory that Anakin's bringing balance to the Force was the extermination of both Sith AND Jedi, so that a new teaching could begin, one that was more lenient and not so embroiled in politics and lteralism.

  18. I am fairly sure he would have received some light side points as opposed to darkside by snapping their necks

(WARNING the above post was a joke.) :D

Lol. I was also being a bit facetious by putting that in game terms, but I couldn't resist the image of my character walking in and being given the options: A)knock out guards or b) force choke the piss out them.

  19. The reason why I haven't posted a rebuttal to you is because in the end it's semantics. While we don't completely agree on the "cause" we do agree on the "Why." if that makes sense. You agree Force Choke is a dark side ability but for a different reason than I do but in the end we both agree.

Indeed. Always nice to find a common ground. But then again, discussing semantics is a fun, gentlemanly, and scholarly pastime too ;)
