  1. you should never choose to make gear with bad stats though. thats entirely on you. i can agree that they need to add more appearance options, and they really need to get all of the existing appearances into an orange format. but honestly at this point you shouldnt be sticking with non orange gear anyway. i understand why its in game, and how the system works, but orange gear is superior in pretty much everyway, especially for leveling. the number of times that solid stat gear actually comes out better are pretty rare, and generally only with a correct t2 suffix. with the game in its current stat i would rather they actually remove all of the existing solid stat gear and move it entirely into orange/mods.
  2. oh, so you dont care about any negative effects to the game, you merely want it free, right now! you are the reason why we cant have nice things.
  3. this isnt kotor, and that kind of balance, especially in an mmo atmosphere would be next ti impossible. you are essentially wanting something similar to rift, and that didnt exactly turn out well.
  4. like what exactly you mean like you know the art director actually explained at the guild summit (the actual panel escaped me at the moment) of how they actually went back through the different color schemes to actually match colors after texture mesh. its not the same thing at all. or maybe which would "boost" the economy after destroying the rest of it. personally i would like to be able to sell more than just dye kits. right now i can sell a plethora of different orange appearances, for both sides, because i have access to the patterns and the mats. while this may be an improvement for you, because you dont, this would hurt a large number of crafters. it would also completely invalidate a number of orange recipes, as making anything past the level 11 and 23 sets would be cost prohibitive. really? with an appearance tab there is 0 reason to purchase a blue or purple for appearance. the majority of green items also being available as drops (either random, or quest) would mean that if i wanted to actually fill the appearance niche as a crafter, i then have to directly compare with the green looks currently available on the gtn. besides the fact that greens in general arent posted high enough to be able to cover most mats, not to mention actually making profit. eq, had shade issues. gw2 has the armor directly designed for the system, lotro, no first hand experience but i have heard repeatedly that it suffers from the same shading issues, tera, havent seen of head anything of this feature. rift suffers badly from the shading issue, and it is the one that i have the most experience with. so gambryo is pos now? last i checked its pretty damn good (you should look at its content and game lists before you pronounce it pos) and has stood up under better scrutiny than hero has. even without that, these are the very same issues that this games art director brought up when the idea of dye kits was asked at guild summit. perhaps you should get off your high horse just a bit and actually challenge him on the issue, because im pretty sure he knows the games and systems much better than both of us. the only items that dont serve a "purpose" that are craftable are the poorly statted suffix items. the rest, appearance aside, have mechanical reasons to grab them. even with how the game currently is you can pick up multiple sets for looks. i know i have a bank full of them on my warrior. i really need to go through and get rid of some but i havent found the time. they have stated that they are working on getting all of the existing gear skins available as orange pieces, which solves this issue, and keeps the existing economy intact. a demand for appearance at the cost of mechanics. as stated above, most of the looks exist in multiple places. if this goes forward the craftable ones would then have to compete with them, which would be a major swing in the existing economy, making all orange items universal, therefore invalidating a large number of items. thats what the orange system is already achieving. you want to change up the entire system for no real reason.
  5. stop enforcing the stigma that casual equals bad.
  6. bioware has already stated that they are adding more to personal story chapters this year. besides that, foregoing the things you mentioned already cuts you off from a large number of story elements. there is already lots of story in game that you are choosing to ignore. there is no reason for bioware to cater to your specific niche, especially when it takes far longer for them to create the story than it does for you to consume it.
  7. the fact that mounts and mod costs were already in from launch, and in the first 3 months we still had 12% inflation (as per guild summit) says they are nowhere near enough.
  8. yes, they are working as intended. with how stats actually function, especially with the heavy amount of dr, its actually one of the better soloing stats available, especially for healer/tank type characters. even for dps though its generally pretty solid if you keep your companions gear at a similar level to your own. the actual dps difference between xstat and x presence is essentially the same. the only reason to not gear up with presence is that its pretty useless when you cant use your companion. otherwise mathematically its essentially the same, arguably better due to dr.
  9. care to show the ways it will actually help the economy? cause honestly it causes MUCH more harm than good. as it is right now there are many niches with appearance vs utility in regards to crafted gear, most notably with orange gear. even with blues and purples there are ways you can sell, and do it justifiably with how itmezation works. adding an appearance tab destroys every one of those niches since it completely destoys the appearance angle of the gear itself. the few additional niches that are opened for crafted gear that is currently "unwearable" then have to compete with other green drops and general quest rewards. overall this means my profits get considerably slashed. beyond that, dye systems have only worked well in 1 game. that game had gear specifically designed with that system in mind. to redo that kind of system here would require a complete retexturing of all gear currently in game. otherwise you end up with things like white and black showing as shades of grey, and other colors showing as varying shades due to how texture actually effects appearance. rift especially had this issue. running through the different color options available to attempt to match colors on various outfits was an exercise in frustration. so before blatantly saying im wrong, please show me how i am? i will more than gladly support you if you can convince me otherwise.
  10. nope. the fans are being retarded and throwing a hissy fit over it because he wont let them have it. most of the value in yoda in general is the sheer fact that we know next to nothing about him. its like learning how magic tricks are done, once you know they are so much more ordinary and really not interesting. if anything he is doing as a service by not letting us screw ourselves over.
  11. while the item budget may be off (i would need to plug it into my spreadsheet) at a glance it looks about right. the actual value of stats depends entirely on where your other stats are at. all stats but power/willpower suffer from dr. every point you get is worth less than the previous point. generally spreading your budget out amongst as many stats as possible will yield a higher return per piece, but that is determined entirely by how good the rest of your gear is. pretty quickly you will reach soft caps where generally your other stats dont scale well enough that doing nothing but stacking as much power/willpower will give you the best return regardless. some stats, like accuracy are completely worthless for sorcerers, and others, like alacrity, are extremely weak.
  12. if you are leveling tank or heals they are generally better than anything you can slot otherwise. even for endgame there are many times that slotting it to increase companion hp will allow you to survive bursts that you cant without much better gear when using companions as tanks etc. the stat is very situational, but very good in those situations.
  13. except about how appearance tabs hurt the economy and dye systems are terrible. as is pointed out in numerous threads that this part pf the community keep creating.
  14. even without the mods you can generally get even columi level that is better itemized. by the way, especially considering that you seem to think that orange "sucks" do you even know the actual stat differences, not to mention how much performance you get out of said stats? cause honestly, i highly doubt you do, the different between either is extremely minimal, and thats even when playing perfectly, which i again, highly doubt you do.
  15. actually all this does, especially with the upcoming changes, is further help premades, and enforces segregation. not that these are overall bad things, but it is the reason why they wont be implemented.
  16. why? orange is almost always better, and you can buy orange off from a vendor.
  17. except it wont. you wont actually gain any market share because now you have to compete with actual greens and such. if the looks were crafted only, or additional tiers changes colors, or added things to appearance, you would be correct but they dont. oranges would only sell based almost entirely on the cheapest ones that can be made, with the cheapest green being used to cover it through your appearance slot. but i wanna run around in SHORTS! GIMME MY HOTPANTS. maybe you should be able to go far enough to say hide belts, because thats often the biggest "offender". even that is pretty arguable with how items and sets are designed. yes, and as soon as they do (which wouldnt really work, dye never does without fine touches) it will be just like the lightsaber debate, with every color being toted as a requirement or they will unsub. actually, its only a good roi if they can prove that its something that kept subs. while i can agree that i would like to see more variety added in color schemes (something that they have already said they are doing) i dont want the ability for players to do what they will. it almost always gets abused far more than taken advantage of. in this case especially it doesnt take much for one person to blatently destroy the "immersion" that you are seeking. considering their stance on names, and how they are working on ways to be able to hide those completely if its something you find offensive, i dont see them adding something like this can be used in the same way names currently are. really? so where exactly is the balance between "second job" and "game"? because i like those things that you say are work. i like keeping my bank, inventory, and crafting empire well organized. while you may not agree with blizzards data, attempting to state the data is false is a show of egomania. right now other, newer games, like the secret world are getting flack for things like being limited to 5 quests at a time in the quest log, and frankly, while inconvenient, it adds more to the game with feel than it detracts. so seeing a ton of companions that look alike breaks immersion, but seeing a bounty hunter running around in hot pink hotpants is perfectly ok? seriously? you are perfectly correct, it is an mmo, which means there are certain things that will break either way, like every si being on the dark council, and every commando leading havoc squad. its impossible to clean that up. you can have 50,000 different armor skins, in every shade of the rainbow and still run into people that look like you, because thats what human beings do. they see a style and they copy it, or atleast imitate it. its known as fashion. your eternal hipsterism will never be satisfied in any public game. even ones like tsw, or wod (ie games where you can look however you please with large clothing options) you will never be happy. there is min/max, and then there is min/max within reason. most players (even those that call themselves min/maxers) dont actually play at the level where min/max matters, or even actually makes a difference. the vast majority of the time you will see a larger gain from fixing rotation/spec/playstyle than from actually maximizing your available gear. every sim that determines stat weights does so assuming that you are playing either with a very set rotation, or within x percent of that rotation, since as rotation changes so do stat weights. that being said, virtually every single one of illgot "the guy who knows nothing about star wars, yet claims to know things about mmos" issues has been addressed, especially going forward. even without that, knowing what the actual cost is in terms of output its generally worthwhile if looking good is that important to you since really, none of the set bonuses are large enough to actually matter in any pve content. aslong as you are playing at a solid level you can easily surpass all of the content, without those bonuses, all in gear you enjoy. i know, because i have been doing so for months. this is also utter bs considering the sheer amount of bioware hate you have been throwing in the earning report threads. while i can understand that you made a poor choice and bought a game that you really dont like, its not biowares fault even though you want to put it off on them.
  18. ignoring the first part because it was "wah wah you dont like my idea so you suck and/or are dumb/wrong" this point above is pretty patently false. the things you are talking about, companions, speeders, are nothing but recolors. no actual animation work, ie clipping with armor, actual aesthetics, tested against other animations for cinematic "realness". vanity pets are slightly different, since that is a minor amount of animation work in comparison, since for the most part they dont really move, have armor, interact with other things, etc, and even they still have clipping issues. as much as you want to downplay the amount of effort involved, since stance, both in game and real life, effects the forms (attacks) that they initiate. you are actually asking for doubling/tripling/quadrupling the number of animations currently in game. whether that was you intention or not isnt relevent.
  19. except not all change is bad. change for the sake of change is though. while i can agree that i see very few "good" ideas, i would rather campaign against the changes i dont like than sit idly by and see this game get bastardized like i did in wow.
  20. or you could bump one of the other threads on this subject that actually shows some of the very basic issues with your suggestion, like how pod racers wont exist for another 2000 years.
  21. at volume or not it still evens out over time regardless. its how "rng" actually functions and why sims are always a better judge of balance and potential than actual parses. for me personally (as my numbers show) im actually trending lower than what my general crit rates should be, yet i still have made a very large sum of credits employing it. that being said, aug slots need to remain "difficult" to obtain. not only are they not a requirement (as nothing is balanced around them, per dev statement) but also because how difficult it is to obtain directly impacts value. its not the sole consideration, but it is a chunk of the formula.
  22. yes, because your suggestion alone could have saved all of those subs. because you have access to all of the data on why and how they unsubbed right? the data we can glean from other sources, especially the forums, shows that roughly the same amount would be driven away than are kept by these kinds of chanages.
  23. because not only your thread title, but how you worded your suggestion shows that you are disappointed with how the game works. you are working from the premise that pvp is somehow more engaging than pve, which from my experience is not the case. even from a pure mechanical level you can predict what an enemy will do, and how things will go purely based on class/skill levels. with the only real caveat being human error and your ability to mitigate/exploit it. the only real bonus that pvp has over pvp is the feeling of "beating" someone else instead of a machine, which i personally dont care for, and really dont think should be encouraged. especially when you see the griefing and general unsportsmanlike conduct that has arisen from it. im very turned off by both the attitude and the playerbase of that particular community than i am by the pve side.
  24. op, just an fyi but rper does not equal special snowflake. while what you propose is possible, its a staggering amount of animation work (redoing every animation in the game, x number of additional times where x is the number of additional "stances") just to make you feel special. this is of course all negated by the fact that even if they do say 4 more for a total of 5, thats only going to make you 20% more special than everyone else, assuming what makes you "special" isnt the most aesthetically pleasing. basically its a stupidly large amount of work, for little to no actual gain.
  25. next time please do a search and bump one of the 50 other similar threads, so you can actually read all of the reasons why this sort of thing really doesnt work well, especially with existing armor types.
