  1. All the people you just quoted (minus Han Solo) are stylized Anti-Heroes or fit the trope of Anti-Hero who break every rule in the book just to get the job done, and are really no different than the bad guys when they happen to exist in the same universe AS someone who is that good, like a Luke Skywalker. There are also plenty of examples where there are pure good guys in their forms but people like them because they have depth: Batman - pure good guy but because he's got a rock in his *** and dresses like a demon, he's cool Spider-Man - wears red and blue for god sakes! He's snarky, scared ******** half the time, but saves the day out of responsibility. Depth and attitude, but squeaky clean as they get. and while people don't wish to admit it, there is STILL a reason why he is STILL considered one of the "Big 3" in terms of Superheroes all around the world because he the benchmark that every hero WISHES they could be: Superman. Strength, Moral Certainty, and a mythic symbol of hope. Even Batman wishes he was Superman (and NO ONE argues with Batman). The Man of Steel is the ultimate paragon of what it means to be a hero, and while we can't relate to him on levels, we CAN relate to his alter ego, the timid, awkward, nerdy reporter, Clark Kent. We are all a bunch of Clark Kents always bumbling, never quite getting the girl (until we eventually do), and always overlooked by someone waaaaay cooler than we are. no matter how much the "American" media (and the internet fatboys) want to portray it, there is still the fact that EVERY HERO IN FICTION SINCE 1938, has to be compared to this guy. He's the measuring stick of what it means to be a hero. And people still read and watch his stories today, and will continue to do so LONG after we're all dead and buried.
  2. Empire of Dreams - the feature length Star Wars documentary released with the first DVD release of the original trilogy Bill Moyer's research studies with scholar Joseph Campbell, who oversaw the project as Lucas wrote it, and he too made more than once that it was a story ultimately meant for children, to impress the world views and motifs that were central to folklore and tales, and bring them into a way that was accessible to them of the time.
  3. first of, what in the bluest of blue hells is Khorne? Second, says the ravings of a disgruntled player. Third, did you miss the part about Star Wars was, is, and always will be, a CHILDREN'S STORY? No matter how much violence and mature and dark things get, this is stuff your kids will always be able to get into based on the universal themes based in myth like the Hero's Journey, the Road of Redemption, Good vs. Evil, and what it means to do either, and every other mythological and universal story trope there is. NEXT!
  4. Except that, in Star Wars, Sith and the Dark Side is absolution. They deem love as weakness, and they wish to be strong. Loving means giving yourself to another person, which is a big no against the Sith code. Even the most spoken Sith are flat out liars and ******es. Star Wars may have grey to it now, but Sith is absolution. It has always been defined as such. Those who tried to change such truthes were killed and unfit to be Sith strong enough to defeat the Jedi. Jedi may be hypocritical, but are more complex, diversify, and questioning by their own nature. Sith do not question anything, they crave power and stop at nothing to get it. This is absolution. Their mentality is very much "I am right, and you are all beneath me." even if they don't say it with their lightsaber. So families are a laugh, that's a threat to their power unless it's a calculated plan to further your legacy. Love is a joke because the only love you think of is passion, and what is passion? Thinking with your naughty bits. Sith = OUT FOR THE SELF. ALWAYS. So you can't really have depth so much with that. You can play with how they go about it and ways to skew their logic, but unlike Jedi, Sith is absolute. Love is complicated, hate is simple. And what is the way of the Dark Side? Quick and Easy.
  5. Which is why there can really never be more than 2 Sith because of all this dilluting of power and having to co-exist and all that really does work against the selfish nature of the Sith. One to Master the power, and one to covet his position. Hence why Darth Bane killed them off except himself and then found Darth Zannah and continued down the line. Every time since they tried to break the Rule of Two, it never really worked, not even the Lost Tribe when they returned and it wasn't until Darth Krayt came up with the One Sith concept, did it work, but even then it backfired to an extent because there was STILL infighting and chaos within their own Order.
  6. A lot of games have dual spec cause classes have 2 ways to go: tank/DPS, Healer/DPS, etc etc. And people do get a bit annoyed having to go to the respec guy when they need to switch specs per mission they do. WoW has a dual spec, as does LOTRO actually, where you can swap your skill tree as fast as you can switch your armour. So unless they ADD dual spec, why not come up with an alternative challenging way so that you can fill the holes with said skill points and to not break the game, you need to do a LOT of these feats and achievements in order to get even ONE point. That's what DC did. You only get 15 power points (level cap is 30 and every other level it was skill point, power point), but you can now have upwards 80+ skill points to upgrade passive skills and stats and unlock weapons and fighting styles so you can boost your ability to be a select role in combat. It works in theory and allows for people a reason to go out and do these repeats so they can unlock that achievement and get the points much like their reputation stuff and have it pay off in more than just a fancy title or really crappy looking gear.
  7. That's a mis-conception, as there was no actual "Gray Jedi Order" at all in any of the lore. Some claimed to be "Gray Jedi" like Jolee Bindo, but at the end he adhered to the light and doing good even if he masqueraded it with "dark force powers". But there was no "Order" to speak of with its own Council or benficiares. In fact, quoting from several sources such as The Jedi Path , and Jedi vs. Sith: the Essential Guide to the Force, Gray Jedi didn't follow the dark side, or even used Dark Side powers of any kind, just didn't agree with the Council on the approach to the light side. The Jedi Path describes them as "Mavericks that can be difficult to control" What you described later turned into the "Potentium" who believed that the Force was inherently good and that all Force talents led to that good. None of these people made it past Padawan and are considered distrusted and misguided. There was also the Jennsarri and the Imperial Knights, who came later who followed simmilar ideals, but they too ultimately followed the Light Side in the very end to serve a greater good. Sith and Dark Jedi are evil, to become corrupted by the power the Dark Side held for them and to crave it constantly instead of "using the Force as a tool that should not be taken lightly" as the rest of these groups did. However Gray Jedi in definitive terms, are just Light Sided Jedi with an un-orthodox point of view on how the Jedi should work and don't associate themselves with the Council's view of thinking.
  8. Since they haven't implemented dual spec yet (if they ever) wouldn't it be kinda cool along with reputation points to see achievement points like "kill 1000 Imperials in this planet" or "achieve 10000 affection points with all companions" and that each achievement have a point value that when you get enough points = 1 skill point to spend in your character tree because you only get 41 to start (and I assume 5 levels later 46) and maybe 200 or 300 feat points, something like that, can equal a training point to spend, make it a challenge for people to go out and do something in record times and give them a reward worth it all. Games like DC Universe Online have implemented this and it's a nifty concept. why not go for it?
  9. except a lot of people are angry teenagers in the game or disgruntled 40-somethings, 20-somethings, etc etc who feel they have been cheated and want to get back at the world but still be made out to be the good guys. Notice how many of the Sith are fat and usually bald? It's BioWare's wink to its own audience. In character Sith are self-indulgent and blah blah blah, but the goal they went with is to "we're not "evil", we just want to be accepted for our own way of doing things" I don't agree with it either, but sadly everyone hates each other and you have to be "civilized" in the RP world. I've seen a guy go in and be the Darth Maul kind of Sith and he got torn to shreds by a bunch of egotistocal, snarky, tards who say "dude, **** off. You're a tool." as if the traditional way of Sith was nothing. I mean one guild for example, Harbingers of the Sith'ari, don't act like Sith at all, in fact ALL act like Jedi, some TURNED Jedi, yet use that name. It's a punchline!
  10. Or being even able to change your hair or makeup/facial tats! That'd be cool! Because it's organic that our hair grows out or we might get some minor changes like scars and what not, and a lot of games do have vendors that sell you the various hairstyles that you can change, some for in-game credits, some for real money, but it would be awesome to see as well.
  11. What I'd love to see is a theatre mode, think of it as "taping your wedding day" where you can review the love story with your character leading up to the "marriage" cutscene and be able to play out the growth of the character. it IS somewhere deep deep in the coding what you wore then and see how you've grown through the game by just playing the love story. That would be cool too.
  12. I do see your point, but I can see his too. Palpatine DID take the power for himself, but, to quote Lucas, "He made the trains run on time," so he was, as Hitler was (and we KNOW how evil he was) "using democracy to destroy democracy," and a lot of people forget, Hitler did great things for his people, until his madness and bigotry got the best of him and he desired power as all dictators do: He got Germany out of the depression by 1931, restored Germany's national pride, heck even held the Olympics in his country during a time when such an idea was questioned in the Great Depression. Yes we know he still went on to do evil things, but like Palpatine, there's a whole other aspect to it. So while he is evil incarnate, one cannot merely say that there wasn't SOME good in his merits. Palpatine did rid the Empire of corruption by controlling all the pieces of said corruption that wasn't the Hutts or Black Sun (and even then he still had a good deal of influence with both) Despite it being a dictatorship, the Empire (as shown in the EU) DID have a thriving economy and while human-centric, still had plenty of support in territories to the point where even though he died on Endor, it took nearly 20 years for the Empire to agree to peace with the New Republic, and even then they weren't entirely gone either. Yes, the Sith are evil, selfish, and ultimately out for themselves first. But that doesn't say aspects of that could mean that their subjects could in some ways benefit. You can't be a king without a kingdom, even the Sith know this. So you have to give SOME things to them to allow them to function in society that is subserviant to you but still living and able to exist on its own. Which Palpatine did. Now naturally not every species or people benefitted or enjoyed and thus Civil War broke out, but nevertheless, it took an entire generation to go by before full out Civil War could break out, and another generation before it ended. Food for thought really.
  13. Looks like a ton of fun and a lot more like Star Wars than anything you guys have dished out lately (Gree **** was lame...) so signs of life be shown here
  14. awesome well then what would be the next on your cosmetic list if you had to pick? lol
  15. Now as we know, cosmetic updates do appear from time-to-time and while not the most important thing on a dev's to-do-list, they are still clamored for by players, such as being able to sit in chairs, or take your hood off, or even mini-games like Pazzak and Speeder Races. My personal one is hood toggling. While I would want the other things I mentioned above, being a Jedi, they do wear hoods, but rarely in combat, and even ditch the over-robe to fight. Obviously you can't do that, but it's clear from the graphic that the hood is a separate piece that is merely attached to the cloak and looks like it can be toggled as I would like to see my hair from time-to-time and in the case of Twi'leks, the whole hood piece just vanishes, which makes the robe itself look weird. Anyone else want the hood toggle as the next cosmetic update when they get to said list, or do they want something else like chair-sitting or mini-games? cheers
  16. Notice something? ALL AMERICAN CITIES and one in nowhere's ville Germany! BioWare was founded in Canada, a chunk of their staff is Canadian, and yet WHY ARE THERE NO CANADIAN CITIES? I mean hell, you got a city in GERMANY there, why not Toronto, hm? Biggest city in the country of Origin and we get the shaft? BAH!
  17. The hate for Bioware is strong in here. Wonder if I let out a sick rancid fart it would break the tension that you can cut through with a lightsaber....
  18. Yeah you DO realize majority of these polls are free access sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit right? Where even the most jaded troll can vote just to go "ha ha! lewwwwser! this game sucks!" I wouldn't call that "desired species" in the community. Besides, DID YOU WATCH THE HOLIDAY SPECIAL?! 20 MINUTES OF NOTHING BUT WOOKIEES! GAAAH! My head hurt from that! So no thanks to Wookiees, unless they were sidekick roles just like the Smuggler class, THEN it'd be cool. I want mah Chewbacca, not to BE Chewbacca, thank you! Not to mention, Droids only act based on programming, they can't "think", hence it'd be a little redundant given there's 3 conversation options which you have to, you guessed it, THINK about. On another note, Devs, can we get started on being able to lower/raise the hoods on characters BEFORE we get into new species? Soon as that's taken care of, my vote is on Torgruta, Natuolan, Kaleesh, Rodian, Devaronian, Falleen, Kel Dor, and Cerea as new species to play as, all of which haven't been done yet. Though it would be nice to include for the human species, the various sub-species in the customization like Kiffu, and the Tholothians. But first and foremost: HOOD LOWER AND RAISING!!!! THIS IS A COSMETIC MUST!!! We're halfway with the hide headslot and unify colours, now we need to be able to take our hoods off! lol

  20. Pretty bland title, but here goes: Hi, I am Master Taoré Timarick from the Ebon Hawk RP Server and leader of the Champions of the Force. Before anyone asks, yes I did coin the name from the third novel in the Jedi Academy Trilogy, moving on. In RP terms, in a galaxy at war, the Jedi High Council must focus their attention on immediate threats that threaten both the safety of our Jedi Order, and the safety of the Republic. However they often neglect those that could potentially become threats to the galaxy. Despite my constant calls for change, the Council at large refuses to take the words of a "Maverick" who despite all his accomplishments and proven track record to prove otherwise, they don't consider a "proper Jedi." and thus, as if to patronize me, handle things the "proper" way. However, not everyone in the Council agrees with the collective. In the wake of such a miscarry of decisive action, Jedi Master Kiwiiks and Grand Master Shan have approved, in secret, a covert Jedi strike team comprised of Jedi, and liasons within the Republic Military and the Fringe, handpicked by myself, Master Timarick to actively seek out threats against the Republic and shut them down before they can rise to power and jostle for their position within their own ranks. We get the job done and answer only to the Grand Master personally. We are not just Jedi, we are a light in the darkest corners of the universe. We are the Champions of the Force. Basically that's the short sweet summary of the guild. So far we only have 10 members, comprised of myself, close friends, and a few new recruits who enjoy roleplaying. We take story and character very seriously as well as forming friendships. This isn't a guild where you are just some random Jedi and your story is meaningless to the galaxy as a whole; Star Wars is a massive universe that can focus on any one character at any time, and often when we really think about it, that small character's story could seriously effect the universe at large in ways most of us don't even think about. You are your own person in a team of other like-minded people with a story and goal in mind to be part of the Star Wars saga as your own personal hero, not just some random side-character. Only 2 members currently are level 50 so we are not an Op group as of yet, though some time in the near future we would like to be. Our current focus is a plot that hopefully will someday blossom into an event that is noteworthy and something worthy of being in the Star Wars mythos. If anyone is interested, a response would be grand . We actually are currently developing a storyline that will require more members to carry out, but seeds are already planted, but more ideas to go beyond that is what keep us going. So join us in the Galaxy Far, Far Away... If interested, some replies or in-game emails (not spam) would be epic Thanks for reading if you did.

  23. Let me see here... Oh here we are: "The most expensive MMO ever made.." yep, establishes right out of the gate cost effective measures never stopped them before. "Free Players pretty much need to buy everything to the point it's just easier to subscribe." Seen that. "Cartel purchases are going pretty well." - quoted from last live stream cast, that's fine. And when you're EA or LucasArts, and given their previous track record, do you seriously think monetary issues have stopped them from turning out profit? Especially with the layoffs allowing them to SAVE more money? Even if it delays content and triples the workload? Note also, writers don't get paid as much as you believe, and the most expensive piece is actually the animation, not the voice actors. So you want to start an argument over a game that has spared no expense to TRY (and admittedly to the point it breaks my heart FAILED TO) compete with World of Troglodites - - I mean Warcraft? No. I didn't think so either....
  24. It was almost the second established thing since Disney purchased Lucasfilm into their corporate portfolio besides stating they would be hands off with the project like they are in large part with Marvel and that the story would be based on old story notes written by George and that he would still retain a role in the movie as chief creative consultant. The story would be set with Luke in his later years (the "proto-script" written by George Lucas states his 40s) training a new generation of Jedi. Luke in his 40s places the timeline of these new films to be around the, you guessed it, period of the New Jedi Order series and thus the YuZhanVong would be cut from continuity entirely.
  25. Then you're one of the chosen few. And oh guess what, they'll read yours because you like it! That'll make them INSTANTLY go: "Well Galvatron likes it. Screw the rest of you guys! We're going to keep churning out spam in a can!" Not the most novel approach, and it's a great way to alienate even your most loyal customers, such as myself, who try to get everyone around them to play the game so he doesn't have to be the only one. In case you weren't reading just the titles of the threads on this subject, not to mention the dozen pages in this thread alone, people want to continue THEIR story. Not A story they have to repeat 10 times til they are reduced to tears and sleep. They don't MIND these stories, provided they are COUPLED with THEIR story on top of it. Give them a reason to come back. Only reason I PERSONALLY still play today is because I have taken it upon myself to write MY OWN story with my friends in the universe! Only thing left plus my obsession with Star Wars that keeps me going. But we only make x amount of dollars a month and we really can't keep spending money on something if it doesn't give us what we are looking for. A line in the sand has been drawn, BioWare and EA.
