  1. Well as we saw with Season 6 of the Clone Wars on Netflix: So by and large, while the details of what went down may be subject now to debate, the fact remains he existed, and he DID destroy the Sith Order. Same with Assaj Ventress, Aayla Secura, Quinlan Vos, Boba Fett, Darth Maul's survival/chicken legs, and countless other EU characters and concepts that have shown up in the films or even the Clone Wars show. So while I was initially swept up in the tidal wave of emotions, the more I think about it, the more a simple truth emerges: "Between great complexities, great simplicity emerges." - Winston Churchill. Basically the EU hasn't changed AT ALL. Even before this new system, it still needed to appear in G or T-Canon for the character to be canon. How is this any different? Why because the new books are now also G-Canon? So what? Basically leading up to this, the G and T-Canon took a serious **** on the EU leading up to this before, and how is this any different? The EU still survived these massive retcons and many of the characters with them (Bane, Secura, Vos, Ventress the Mandalorian culture for those of us that went past Season 2, the Nightsisters), it will survive again. So really, just because the Old EU now as a title, doesn't mean it is suddenly swept under the rug as "N-Canon" because before this massive change, each character, concept, and planet, had to make it onto the CLONE WARS OR THE MOVIES for it to BE canon in the first place. So I'm just going to continue reading my Tim Zahn books and play my Jedi Knight games and continue to play KOTOR and SWTOR with no change and hope for MY favourite Star Wars character (Mara Jade Skywalker) to show up in Rebels and Episode VII. Nothing has changed, just the presentation. later days
  2. *cough* Women in refrigerators *cough* *cough* *cough* demeaning females to further the male's story *cough* *cough* *cough* death for the sake of death has no meaning *cough* *cough* don't use Game of Thrones' model of death as a shield *cough* *cough* don't use "realism" as a defense *cough* *cough* But that aside, I do hope she appears in the new canon now that they all but said "if it contradicts the new stuff coming out, it's not canon."
  3. Mara and Thrawn's names aren't creator owned. From day 1, because it was under the Star Wars banner, they've been property of Lucasfilm, otherwise they would not have been allowed to be used or mentioned in other media. If Mara Jade comes back, they can use her name if they wished, and these people are as big a Star Wars fan as us they'd think "well if we use her but change her name, fans are gonna know and they WILL be pissed... So let's just use it and call it a day." I mean look at Aayla Secura (used her actual name created by a comic writer), look at Quinlan Vos (used his actual name, not created by George either) list goes on and on. You write for Star Wars, it's no longer yours, it's Lucasfilm's.
  4. Then they would just be routing out corruption within the Republic, destroying the Empire from within, and letting democracy resume and take its course unfettered by corruption. So basically a pair of Jedi doing what Jedi do lol
  5. the armoring mod of the piece itself nowadays contains the bonuses because people were complaining about this a while ago. So if you buy the armor piece and slot it into whatever orange you want, you will get the bonus the same if you were to buy the gear as a whole. Problem solved.
  6. Sorry that you're not really that creative. Some people use their legacies like a family on the same faction and families DO on occasion occupy the same space. I'm a HUGE RPer and have more characters than I care to admit, but some of my characters by their own personalities don't see the need to have a home beyond their ships (my Smuggler and my Bounty Hunter for instance), my Agent spends most of her time at the office and her ship is also more used as a sleeping area than her actual apartment, that leaves 4 houses for my big players, and if I wanted more I'd just pony up some CCs. If you don't want to be a creative storyteller and roleplayer, that's your problem, don't call this a "non-RP" DLC when it is, you're just not using your brains.
  7. There isn't many fighting styles left for lightsaber combat. All that's left is Niman and Makashi. And fighting styles don't change the animations except for a handful of new moves in those respective trees. Each fighting style corresponds to a skill tree, so they would have to build an entirely new skill tree and then balance it out with the other trees, damage outputs, bonuses, takeaways, and how it meshes with PVP when people want more things like the new GSH content announced, or new class content (see my compromise suggestion below) or so on and so forth. So while it would be nice to have access to all 7 forms of lightsaber combat for the JK and SW classes, highly unlikely to happen.
  8. I never said I was but really would you want to do the same storyline 8 times or would you like a little more variety? 8 classes, 4 of which are Force Users. Jedi Knights and Consulars get their own plot thread and sector of the war to focus on, Sith Warriors and Sith Inquisitors do the same, meanwhile another front is in need of something like an Agent and a Bounty Hunter (consider it a "team-up" that borrows plotthreads of JUST those 2 classes), and another where Troopers and Smugglers are needed for smash and grab or tactical ops. They've made it abundantly clear they won't do ALL 8 CLASSES with a new story. But nobody likes the interchangeable story threads that Makeb and subsequent new planets like CZ-198 and Oricon did. So: COMPROMISE. That's how you play the game.
  9. surrre, that's why every day there's a new thread that's 10 pages long about story quests and people wanting them (they are many) and how many of whom un-subbed, or plan to un-sub due to the lack of story content. Sorry, but story is what this game was prided and built on. Without it, the whole thing falls apart.
  10. Or just have the quest givers who start the whole thing on the starting planets and branch off from there like the Shroud and Seeds storylines from Hutt Cartel. It gives it dynamic, it gives it scope, sprinkle in a few cutscenes here and there that push the storyline and boom, there you go. A planetary storyline spread across a half dozen planets focused on 2 of the 4 classes of a faction, and would cost about the same to just make a new planet with a full storyline and stuff. Instead just use what's there and focus on a story with the only new things you have to toss in there are cutscenes and maybe a handful of instances.
  11. I would agree but remember, time and budget. Probably a bit faster to just say "you will be compensated for us if you do this job." and "you have orders" then to give one class an entire story while the Jedi and Sith have to share one. Plus unfair too.
  12. Okay Devs, It's no secret people want more class stories. They beg for it, un-sub because you won't make any more, and generally it was the thing that made you stand out above other MMOs for a time. That also costs time and money. We understand that, we do. But after Makeb being a "general" story that after you play it the second time through you are already feeling like you are beating a dead horse (not that this post alone isn't already....) you realize that you've gone and screwed up. People want to feel special, it's why they like Star Wars. You marketed this game as to be the "hero of your own Star Wars saga" something you cannot be if you're just as interchangeable as the next save for a few dialogue quirks. To that end, to go along with this whole Invasion story arc for FPs, I suggest a compromise: Instead of making 8 Individual CLASS stories, make 4 stories that are splintered depending on what side of the conflict the classes in question are in: The Sith are the Sith. The Empire is the Empire and the Mandalorians willing to work for an extra buck and glory. The Jedi are the Jedi. And the Republic is the Military and any freelancing scoundrels they can pay for. Easier to make a few dialogue changes for the individual class, but not so interchangeable that any and every class feels like they are doing the same thing with a different coat of paint. The Jedi are the defenders of the Republic, but do not per say operate in the governmental system the same way a soldier or a civilian would. Same with the Empire: The Sith run the shindig and the rest just live in it. Each are vital to the war effort, but it's redundant if everybody is doing the same thing. What makes the Jedi and the Sith so special if a soldier can just do it as well? Or an Agent? It would also give a good opportunity for a new gameplay mode: Duos! I was introduced to these in DC Universe Online and they are loads of fun and a quick way to get comms. Everybody wants to have that great team-up adventure of just Han and Chewie, or Obi-Wan and Anakin just charging in and cutting a swath through hordes of enemies, or like Han and Luke making a glorious stand while trying to protect the princess or like Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon in the Duel of the Fates. If you're making 4 new stories that take each of the 4 sub-factions with the Republic and the Empire, have 2-man team ups for a small amount of comms (since there'd be only one boss, it'd be less than the standard FPs). You got to get off this generic "coat-of-paint" mentality and reach a compromise with the fanbase. You don't want to do ALL 8 class stories? Fine, but going the direction of "everyone does the same story" isn't the way to go either. As an old Jedi once said "Bring balance to the Force! Not leave it in darkness!"
  13. Or they can do something more practical for the majority of people who can't get in Ops due to lack of knowing people and the LFG being atrocious, and scale the Ops to 4-Man Flashpoints while introducing 2 new ones so those of us who missed out on the fun the first time through can now enjoy them as well. Many MMOs have done this and it would cost the same amount of time to scale most of the beginner Ops back to 4-Man FPs as it would to scale them up to lvl 60 players. You forget the majority of the player base either doesn't raid or can't.
  14. Considering I've had to report a DOZEN names in the first 15 minutes of logging in today, this is getting more out of hand. One person called themselves "Padmé Naberrie" which anybody would tell you that was Padmé's birth name before she was christened Amidala. You bet your *** I reported that name, so much for iconic Star Wars names being off limits. Or did the devs forget there was an Episode I thru III? (most likely, I keep forgetting this IS the internet where the butthurt is obscenely strong...)
  15. good to see I am not alone in this department. Sure there are detractors but that's with every forum.
  16. /signed. I stay for the class story dynamics and the RP. My first MMO was DCUO and for years I juggled the both of them until I had to drop DC because of money. I chose SWTOR because I had faith of the direction that I as a player would feel less expendable in the grand scheme of things with the new content. Up to now, I have yet to be given that satisfaction. Going to stay until my free access for GSH then go back to DCUO. No RP, but FAR superior gameplay.
  17. This doesn't help when I have to see them running around on my screen trolling RPs and while I cannot hear them, they still toss a Party Jawa in or randomly dance on the table or I may have to end up queing with them on the oddball occasion I have to use the Group Finder to run my dailies. See the fact they DON'T pay attention to the difference between an RP server and a PVE server is atrocious when RP is the only reason I stayed with this instead of playing the VASTLY SUPERIOR DC Universe Online, which was my first MMO as well! I mean if this keeps up, once I get my free access to GSH and bonus 1500 cartel coins I'm just gonna re-sub back over to DC and back to the happy place. At least there I KNOW the ignore key works (even turns the ignored invisible if you leave the room then go back to it) and it's not an RP heavy game ever since the megaservers. RP servers need more love, and they are not getting them from this game.
  18. Because the 30-day-name expiry date for non-subbers, even though they only may play for a bit, forget it, then come back to it totally doesn't alienate players. No, Bioware has no problem alienating people based on their name. But really, if you're going to make an RP server, then keep an eye on who is running around in it, otherwise the whole server becomes arbitrary and no different from the regular servers.
  19. ((re-post from General Discussion, because really, we here on the Ebon Hawk deserve better treatment as RPers)) Not that you guys righteously give much about the RP community, but this is getting obscenely out of hand... Why make an RP server when nobody follows the RULES of an RP server? You know where people actually go to make characters, play out the story beyond standard PVE and PVP, and don't have to watch whenever they walk around people like "Sithborn" and "Spider-Man" and "Sirfapsalot" and "Hulk Hogan" and every other kind of stupid possible name you can list off known to mankind. I cannot tell you how long my ignore list is just with people with incredibly stupid names like the handful I have listed above. And not just on ONE toon, but ALL of them. If players want to PVE, that's great, but if you want to do that, go to a regular PVE server. Even when you /ignore the people with the stupid names, they don't just magically turn invisible and there is the occasional chance you can still re-que with them, as rare as that is. There needs to be better moderators (that are devs) that police these stupid names and filter them out of the game because if you can do that by filtering out "Han Solo" and "Luke Skywalker" then you can do it for a guy that calls himself "Darth Buttf'ck McGoose." Also, the regulation of RP is TERRIBLE. We are given ZERO RP events that aren't done by the game devs that further the story and only see the VERY occasional news report here on site. But how does that pertain to the roleplay community? That's up to the players to determine and wrangling people is such a pain to do that! I mean creating free RP instances within phases would be nice, GSH seems to be a great step towards this idea too, but really, the servers have gotten ZERO love to the point they are just another PVE or PVP server, that the tagline of them being "RP" or "RP-PVP" server seems obscenely redundant. That is nothing to say of the lack of QL features like optional chat bubbles, hood toggle, sitting in chairs (not just a chair emote) or the laundry list of things that the community has asked for and only got breadcrumbs instead of a proper steak and potato dinner the same way the PVP and PVE crowd have gotten. I LOVE the PVE and enjoy the PVP, but the RP is the only reason I still play this game and I am not the only one in my own personal community who feels this way. Is it too much to ask for better policing of these servers for this portion of the community? You clearly made these servers FOR the RPers and yet at every turn have given them next-to-NO attention and this is getting extremely out of hand. I mean if you don't want to give the RPers more toys to play with on par with that of the PVE and PVP crowds, fine, but it gets really dis-heartening when I am on an RP server (reserved for those who ROLEPLAY) and yet I still see a stupid little Sith calling himself "Spider-Man" and allowed to get away with it! And filling up my ignore list with thousands of players isn't going to change the fact I still have to see these players and more walk by whenever I decide to go on the Fleet to do something.
  20. ((re-post from the Suggestion Box to a larger view, despite the fact I know what people are already going to say, but I will post this here anyways...) 22. I wouldn't consider you a Gray Jedi. I'd consider you a New Jedi more in line with Luke's school of Jedi training. During this era (and even shown in Legacy of the Force when he loses a family member to the dark side and another through death) the Jedi have by and large thrown out the law on marriage and attachments and to those that did not, they created a system of mentorship and camaraderie in order to prevent even their strongest members LIKE Luke fall to the Dark Side. Heck even Jacen only fell because he believed it would save the Jedi Order as a whole and he didn't once think or act out of fear, even for the safety of his own daughter. When Mara Jade died, Luke had the entire and full support of the Jedi Order, especially his son, to allow him to come back to the light after he brutally massacred (falsely) Lumiya in a blind rage and nearly took Jacen with her. I love how people claim to be "Gray" Jedi so they can use their emotions and the cool dark side powers that come with it as if it justifies their means, even though if they were given sufficient training, very few would truly be "Gray". Any and every nerd is a rebel who bristles and lashes out against the world, but when given access to their true potential and greater purpose, they tend to bury those emotions in favor of what they gain from the future. Those naturally "**** you I will kill you all!" impulses that come with being oppressed become increasingly distant when they are no longer there, and then you seek to bring other people out of that darkness. That's not being Gray, that's a Jedi straight out. Just because you have emotions and know how to deal with them, doesn't suddenly make a Gray. A true gray, who does both good and bad, while a prominent belief in the real world, is actually very rare. We tend to lean more heavy on the spectrum of morality than straddle them both equally. While a true "light" and a true "dark" are even more rare and the world is gray, there is still plenty of black and plenty of white out there in order to create that Gray, and in a universe where the lifeforce of the universe itself can heavily influence an individual's actions and give it more weight than in the real world, it would tend to give perspective as well. Well that and the novel you just wrote doesn't come off as something a "Gray" Jedi would do, but more a New one who sees the flaws of the old but also the best, and tries to learn from them. After all, "There is no Ignorance; There is Knowledge."
  23. There IS a lock feature and it has been there for YEARS. It's a small padlock looking icon directly underneath your heads up display above your quickbar on the left hand side. Directly underneath your floating head icon. I have done both where I lose an ability, fix it then lock it but then I need to adjust my abilities and forget to unlock it. Simple click. It has been there since the beginning.
  24. And the sick joke about it all? Throughout ALL the waxing and waning periods of the Jedi Order, the Jedi do not ban SEX. Ever. Discourage it, certainly, but they can't ban it! And while sex more often than not leads to attachment (that's what she said...) in a very literal sense, it's also true that some can divorce sex from connotations such AS love. But it's also a biological thing that we organics do and they can't really do sweet sweet FA about it. Heck even in the Clone Wars, though not at all used in this sense, the Master/Padawan relationship is explained as this when confronted with situations that the Master might lose the Apprentice: "I will mourn [her], but I will celebrate [her] as well." Luminara Unduli to Anakin Skywalker about Bariss Offee. The Jedi clearly take this approach to sex: Celebrate what you have in the moment. Yeah, not very intelligent to ban one thing but NOT ban the other... No wonder the attachment rule is always the first to get thrown out whenever the Jedi Order re-structures from a purge: You can't even keep it in your pants, guys!
  25. Except that chat bubbles have been one of THE most requested features of the game and with the option to toggle it on or off. If you don't want it slowing down your frame rate? Turn it off. It's meant as an option for those who want to RP and use them much like say those who want to play GSF or player housing. Some have stated they don't need them and that the devs should focus on more Ops and FPs. Low and behold, we got GSF and player housing. This is depressing when you make a neutral post and everyone goes "RAWR BUNNIES!!!!" all over it. Oh the internet you sadden me sometimes...
