  1. I certainly wouldn't be offended by a proper roadmap for 2021 or more content now that they've gotten COVID under control and they're not stealing devs for Anthem. With the 10th anniversary coming up, I'm hoping for a bit more than what I've seen. 2020's entire offering of 6.0 to 6.2 was barely a .x update in games like FFXIV. Don't get me wrong, it was fun and I liked the story, but adding a few tweaks to UI with nothing new to address the glaring issues such as group finder for pugging, or making Ops accessible to players beyond the elitist raiding groups like they did with PVP not to mention BIGGER story drops would be worth more than "erg mah gurg, moar cartel items that are just graphical updates of older cartel items we did years ago!" or "look! New stronghold!" (That said I wouldn't say no to a Tython SH...) They clearly have resources to update some of the cutscenes in the vanilla game to make it more cinematic, but the world doesn't feel alive. It's not - again - FFXIV where if you want to do story quests, you actually have to go to the places to start them instead of just clicking an icon at the top of the screen and not interacting with the world beyond instances. They got a massive game that keeps adding content and yet once it's done, it just becomes a husk. They complain on previous cantinas about not using the assets very well... But then drop content that isolates players from the world. There's no real time FATEs or incentives anymore to stay on planets and explore them. Heck even adding a full tilt FLYING mechanic to worlds would at least give the place some colour instead of hugging the ground in these otherwise pretty cool speeders. it honestly just seems like you show up and sub for the new story, then unsub and let your timer run out because unless you're in a major Roleplay guild or something, there's no real reason to keep coming back when you can get all this and more in other games. I was here since the beta back in 2011, this was my second MMO that I played religiously and subbed religiously to. Now I've only come back for a few days at a time to play the brief windows of content since Jedi Under Siege and then I take off again. That's a ****** feeling as a long term player even IF you ignore for five seconds the extreme Star Wars fatigue. Thanks to Mandalorian with Grogu and Luke in the finale, Star Wars' stock is on the rise again. I should want to come back and get back into the swing of things. Instead I come in for a one night stand with the new content... And then just go back to FFXIV. For the 10th anniversary, I would like a reason to stick around for longer than 3 hours is all. Now I know there's going to be BUTT loads of commenters saying "sorry to disappoint you BUT - -" like there always is (guys, I'm one of the original veteran players, I know a thing or two of this game and how Devs work and how you all think because I'm pissing in your cornflakes and you need to interject) it won't change how I feel about this game and its potential for a comeback. It has LOADS of potential for a wicked comeback (just ask FFXIV or hell even WoW FFS,) but when even games like DC Universe Online and STAR TREK Online are getting better reviewed or attention by ALL the MMO blogs and press sites, we got a bit of a problem. Here's to a better 2021!
  2. Every Star Wars Celebration has had an off site SWTOR cantina happen and this year it is about the only reason I want to go to Celebration beyond seeing my Rebel Legion family and having fun with them as a Jedi. But I haven't seen any announcements or news about where and what day this would be taking place? Anybody got any info about it? Thanks!
  3. Agreed, but there are non staging areas like Nar Shaddaa's cantina that always in RP servers see TONS of traffic for RPers despite it not being a hub of sorts and it too is neutral. It's not that people CAN'T do it so much as they don't. Especially since Odessen offers WAY more than Nar and yet people prefer to use Nar.
  4. Indeed, issue here is that it's single faction. So many people basically cross faction you'd think there'd be more opportunities but people do not take advantage of it.
  5. Odessen. Staging area for all heroics, FP terminals, story mode obviously, and the Star Fortress FPs. It even has a GTN, bank access, appearance vendors, and more! And if you didn't want more to ask, it's a neutral faction loading space! So why for the life of me does nobody use it more than fleets!? Level 60 base entry provided you played KOTFE to Chapter 9? Could be a reason. No gear vendors? Maybe. But for people who wanted more and more cross faction interaction, the place runs surprisingly hollow. I play on Ebon Hawk (an RP server) and for some reason, only the fleets, home planets, and Nar Shaddaa are the only places you find RP. Not very good RP mind you, but RP. I do find it bizarre with so many players playing either as Jedi in drag (Light Side Sith) and Edgetardy "Not-Jedi-because-Eff-The-Rules!" and so forth, you'd think they'd want to go more towards the other side since in any sense, if a Light Side Sith was ousted, a rival would bash their head in a speeder door til there was brain matter, and edgelord Jedi would be arrested by the Order and locked away. So with that in mind, Odessen seems to be the perfect neutral space as most in story are neither Jedi nor Sith, so why isn't it used more for RP or even basic interaction? Curious conundrum? Or just that nobody likes the setting? Real shame since it's clear a lot of work went into this. Love to hear your thoughts on the Odessen cantina. Do you use it? If you are an RPer, would you want to use it more? Sound off!
  6. If they were smart, they would take a page from FFXIV's level sync system and make it OPTIONAL so when you are helping low level friends in a jam and they need XP, you sync down so they can get points, but if you don't, you can go through and one shot things. Level syncing becomes a HUGE problem on PVP servers when a fully geared 60+ can get his *** handed to him by two or three lvl 30 f2p gankers. Yeah both in terms of immersion AND in terms of gameplay, that shouldn't even BEGIN to make sense. Yet there it is due to the sync. ADJUSTMENTS NEED TO BE MADE!
  7. don't hold your breath. Even if you DO manage to get on, there's a 50% chance you won't get to play the DLC early because despite being a subscriber for all the target dates, HA! Nope! NO DLC!
  8. I am marked as a sub for ALL 4 dates listed, got NONE of the rewards nor my early access, even though my game changed and I am clearly levelling PLUS I can go to Zakuul now if I wished. What the **** is going on...
  9. Ummmm, they confirmed at Celebration that SWTOR was non-canon. If you like, you can watch the Canon Panel that was hosted at Celebration back in April (which I was at and even got one of my questions answered in fact), and they flat out said: SWTOR is not canon, but that doesn't mean they want to touch it because they like it. A lot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZL9dsXuH8VE
  10. I want more of these, maybe some more father and son/buddy cop adventures where they grow close and have some fun moments. I don't know, I think with nearly every Republic character, they are being a bit too serious and grim, and after so many years spent in war, experience on both sides, perhaps a bit of levity is needed to give it that swashbuckling punch. I literally felt this story ended exactly when I wanted to turn the page to the next chapter; it felt like the BEGINNING of a story as opposed to a short story in full. I really REALLY want to see this happen: A father/son swashbuckling adventure with the disapproving mom trying to keep them out of trouble xD
  11. I actually considered adding Vindican lol, but dropped it because I didn't know all of Malgus' dialogue to be sure. But yeah in the promotional trailers she had ONE lick of dialogue because it was all about "What do you fight for?" And her piece was a shot from Deceived of her putting on her helmet and going "Revenge."
  12. I mean in all fairness, every other major class in game save for the Imperial Agent and Sith Inquisitor (though that said, you DO see Vindican in the Return scene) has a icon for their respective class and many of whom show up in the game proper: Jedi Consular: Satele Shan Jedi Knight: Ven Zallow (mentioned often and appears in Deceived, but can't "appear" because he's DEAD.) Sith Warrior: Darth Malgus Trooper: Jace Malcolm I mean we see Shae and in some promotional commercials, she even speaks, implying she would play some kind of role in the game beyond just being another Mandalorian. Same with Nico: He guns down a swath of Imperial troops and takes Satele and Jace back to the Republic. You would think that would warrant some kind of significance. I mean hell with ALL of the aforementioned people they at least appeared and their novel/comic book subplots touched upon in some capacity or another. Heck even Theron Shan has now made an appearence! So a comic book/novel exclusive character (though he is referenced in the game via email) gets an appearance BEFORE a pair of characters who appeared in the much more expensive-to-make trailers? The hell?
  13. Personally anybody who uses that butthurt whinefest that is Red Letter Media in my personal view, their opinion is officially moot because they can't formulate their own opinions, and like RLM, they TOO come off as butthurt. Sorry kiddies, but face it: the prequels were alright and no different than the original trilogy, the only difference being one was new, simplistic to the point of insanity, and caked in the deepest layer of nostalgia that no amount of watching it til you know it verbatim would dispell the goofiness and stupidity that is everpresent in the original trilogy, we just forgive them because OH LOOK! Han Solo! Darth Vader is kewwwwl! Boba Fett!!! CHEWIE! SLAVE LEIA!! The prequels are a bit more fresh in people's minds and because of Jar Jar, he magnified everybody's problems that they forgave in the Original Trilogy, and never let go of that. I've noticed that nearly 9/10s of the butthurt population peg all the issues of the prequels on Jar Jar. IS Jar Jar responsible for the clunky dialogue that was there in all 6 movies? Was he responsible for the Ewoks? Was he responsible for the films being light hearted when everybody wants it to be Game of Thrones? Nope! But everybody looks at him as the jumping off point. So basically the OT didn't have a Jar Jar to unravel everything. I mean **** he's in a combined 15 seconds of Episode III and he doesn't even speak but NOPE! Episode III gets lumped with the bunch because of "Jar Jar" So seriously, all of you can have some cheese with your whine, take some Preparation H for your butthurt, duct tape your mouths shut, cut your fingers off, and have a nice day
  14. This. Sure I'd probably end up watching all the cutscenes again with myself and my companions in my current gear and not the gear I was using during levelling, story mode, romance story, etc etc, but getting a chance to watch my character's story again without having to remake him or a new one would be nice
  15. That's pretty much how they are looking at it as well. The OP had it right the first time: Lucasfilm DID NOT, and I repeat DID NOT consider C-Canon continuity canon; The fans did. Is the majority of employees and Lucasfilm? Did the majority of them shove it down George's throat during Clone Wars? YOU BET YOUR *** THEY DID. However, George flip flopped a lot on what he liked and hated (just like the fans. Sound familiar?) So they saved as much as they possibly could that was salvageable and made it into the true canon. So with that in mind, even Lucasfilm themselves didn't consider C-Canon as any more than paid and purchased fan-fiction. But the fact is, they always had to conform to what was going on in the movies LONG BEFORE Episode VII was even a serious thought. They even squandered continuity and fought with each other about what happened (Leia's wedding is a good example of this.) Is there a lot to like from Truce at Bakura up to Survivor's Quest? The last story to be told before Young Jedi Knights and New Jedi Order? You betcha! Is the people who are head of the story (and thus overrule Abrams when they want to,) mostly EU writers and artists? YEP. Leeland Chee, Pablo Hidalgo, Dave Filioni, Jen Heddle, being first and foremost among the group ALL of whom contributed extremely heavily to the survival of the C-Canon timeline. So all of you take a chill pill and chillax. Would it be really neat if the "Legends" continuity was actually historical fiction based on "actual" events in the Star Wars timeline? Like Luke marrying Mara and siring Ben, Jaina Solo, Lando's son, things like that? It would be awesome! I myself am a HUGE fan of C-Canon and my favourite character in ALL OF STAR WARS is Mara Jade. Am I sad to see it be altered as it goes forward? Of course I am, who isn't? But given what has already come before, I am more than confident and even optimistic of what is happening next going forward. From the new casting news, it's safe to say that a lot HAS happened in the time, and many characters survived, and some didn't. We will just have to shut up, stop being butthurt troglodites for 5 minutes, and wait and see.
  16. I know fans would LOVE to think that and still do to this day, but the fact remains, it never was. Everyone at Lucasfilm staff also claimed they knew what the EU was, even Leeland Chee, the Keeper of the Holocron, said it was never really canon as much as he would like to be.
  17. Except that these people aren't DC Comics. They've got a proven track record with respect to their characters and continuity and keep more than they change. DC changes everything every 2 years. Also, up until now, C-Canon was never canon in the eyes of Lucasfilm, until it showed up on Clone Wars or the movies. In the eyes of George Lucas, that was how the game was played. While they drew heavily on the EU for Clone Wars, they needed to BE on Clone Wars in order to BE canon. This is just the same policy writ large. The difference between C-Canon and Legends? A name change. Wooo...
  18. It was NEVER part of the continuity. A continuity to be sure, but never THE continuity. Up until now, THE continuity was the movies and the Clone Wars because this was George Lucas' company and HE had final say on what was canon and what was not. Yes he flip flopped on the EU a LOT during his tenure, but in his view, movies and tv were canon and NOTHING ELSE. The rest was also "MAYBE" canon. You are reading into the side of taking this too seriously that "NU!! EVERYTHING IS CANON! IT'S LICENSED!!!" When it really wasn't. Was it cool to have more stories, characters, and events? **** yes! My favourite Star Wars character is Mara Jade for example and I could list a 40 page essay as to how she is such a great character for hundreds of reasons as well as give insight as to why fans might dislike her or write her off as a "Mary Sue." But the fact is while I personally put all the EU as part of my head-canon, deep down, that's all it was: Head-canon. The ACTUAL canon up until now was defined by the guy who made the damn thing: George Lucas. And in HIS mind, what HE worked on is canon and NOTHING ELSE. So really you're acting like an idiot to think a simple name change can carry SOOOO many connotations as to what it means for the EU, when the only REAL difference between C-Canon continuity and "Legends" is a freaking name change! GAH!
  19. I'm glad SOMEONE is using common sense on this thread.
  20. Wow aren't you a case of depression wrapped in the guise of a "nerd." And you clearly didn't read the rest of my post did you? Before this change over, a book character, element, and plot thread had to make it into Clone Wars or the movies for it to be OFFICIAL canon before! What difference does it make now that the EU has a name? NOTHING! So take the pickle out of your *** and use your head.
  21. OP, go here and read this guy's post then scroll to the end to read mine and then make up your own damn mind on what is canon and what isn't. http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=737738
  22. As I said in 2 other posts: Not as much as one would think... In reality, not much has changed: Before this new switch over, the only way a character FROM the EU, or a planet, or a plot thread, or whatever, BECAME canon was if it showed up on TV OR in the movies. Examples being Darth Bane, Quinlan Vos, Aayla Secura, the Nightsisters of Dathomir, Assaj Ventress, Darth Maul's survival and his chicken legs, the Mandalorian Culture (for those of us who watched TCW post-Season 2.) C-Canon stuff only became canon when it showed up in other media in the past, and the case is the same now, they just gave the C-Canon a new name: "Legends" So while I was initially swept up in the tidal wave of emotions, the more I think about it, the more a simple truth emerges: "Between great complexities, great simplicity emerges." - Winston Churchill. Basically the EU hasn't changed AT ALL. Even before this new system, it still needed to appear in G or T-Canon for the character to be canon. How is this any different? Why because the new books are now also G-Canon? So what? Basically leading up to this, the G and T-Canon took a serious **** on the EU leading up to this before, and how is this any different? The EU still survived these massive retcons and many of the characters with them (Bane, Secura, Vos, Ventress, the Mandalorian culture for those of us that went past Season 2, the Nightsisters), it will survive again. So really, just because the Old EU now has a title, doesn't mean it is suddenly swept under the rug as "N-Canon" because before this massive change, each character, concept, and planet, had to make it onto the CLONE WARS OR THE MOVIES for it to BE canon in the first place. So I'm just going to continue reading my Tim Zahn books and play my Jedi Knight games and continue to play KOTOR and SWTOR with no change and hope for MY favourite Star Wars character (Mara Jade Skywalker) to show up in Rebels and Episode VII. Why? Because no story as of this moment has told me they didn't happen yet in some form or another. Nothing has changed, except the presentation of it. later days PS. I read Jen Heddle's posts, and even SHE said this: "@egrawrock If no one says otherwise, then why not? Right? That's my feeling!" and she also said THIS: "Please keep in mind, from the release: "While the universe that readers knew is changing, it is not being discarded." and this. "@Lordrogersmith6 @triecker Basically, but a lot of EU elements have become or might become canon moving forward. It's still there to use." check her Twitter feed (@jenheddle) for proof. When the senior editor of Lucasbooks is going "calm your ****" you smarten up and do just that.
