  1. Thank you very much for all your efforts to assist - you've been very helpful, and it is appreciated.
  2. Going back to the topic, the tiny amount of new content we get every 18 or so months is insultingly pathetic. Especially considering a 20ish year old game with an (arguably) equally small player base and dev team can manage to put out a pretty well polished, substantial expansion EVERY November/December. EVERY year. With updates at least once or twice throughout the year. With new quests, mounts, dungeons, raids, decent loot across all tiers of gameplay, collectibles (gotta love shinies), interesting storylines, crafting (including crafting questlines), new areas and maps (some are reskins; some are brand new), level increases every couple of years - I've played it for years and am still nowhere near finished with almost infinite possibilities for logging in to do something interesting. I do play other games for variety (currently GW2 and very occasionally SWTOR when the launcher lets me), but always end up back at EQ2 as it has such tremendous depth and breadth. I'm very tired of the excuses for the lack of content with SWTOR - sure, the dev team for SWTOR has been gutted, but so has EQ2's, and they still manage to produce decent, substantial content (also with a cash shop for those who want to use it). It's not perfect, but the bugs are minimal and are at least addressed in a reasonable timeframe. EQ2's devs actively engage with the player base - one of the long term crafters actually got taken onto Daybreak's staff as the crafting dev.... As a long-time Star Wars fan, I would LOVE it if SWTOR could do something similar. Instead we get a miniscule, nanoparticle-sized amount of new content of any type, every so often, and once you've taken the half to an hour to go through it, it's plain and simply boring. Utterly boring. We don't even get any engagement with any of our companions now, let alone those who are meant to be our characters' significant others. I would LOVE a decent, substantial, engaging PROPER expansion for SWTOR, that has something for everyone (including crafting) and takes a good few weeks (if not months) to work through.
  3. The download link in this post seems to have worked - I have now managed to at least log in, although it's doing a full download/reinstall of 35ish GB. But at least I've managed to get further than just the continual "The launcher is checking for available updates" .... Perhaps the launcher managed to get corrupted somehow. /shrug Hopefully, once the reinstall finishes, I will be able to log in fully and everything will still be there - fingers crossed! Edit: After the massive download and reinstall, was able to log back in as normal. Thank the Force I have unlimited data (fibre) internet....
  4. Thanks for the tips, I'll give it a try. I am indeed running Windows 11, but it's been working perfectly up until around a week or so ago. Maybe MS did one of their sneaky updates and it borked something. Will let you know how I get on. Edit: Downloaded the DirectX thingy, and went through the installation wizard - it tells me that "DirectX setup has determined that a newer or equivalent version of DirectX has been installed already. No installation is necessary." Still can't get past the launcher looking for available updates.
  5. No idea how to do this. I don't know much about computers. SWTOR doesn't live on my C:\ - it's on an external hard drive but still can't find that host developer log thingy. All good - if this doesn't get fixed by the end of the week, I'll just unsubscribe. I hardly play these days anyway, so maybe it's the Force telling me it's time to move on permanently.
  6. I don't have that path, sorry - and a search in Users for host.developer.log comes up with nothing also.
  7. Thanks - just checking now (rebooting the router didn't work). I don't think there's an issue with the antivirus as it was working perfectly fine up to 3 days ago (today is Sunday, and I last logged in on Thursday). No other games have an issue.
  8. Thank you - I've tried this and still the launcher is stuck looking for available updates. Tried rebooting my pc as well - no joy. SWTOR ain't going nowhere!
  9. It would be great to have the option to skip individual chapters. Every single one with a droid or walker mission would be skipped!
  10. This was me also. While I didn't do amplifiers either, I most certainly looked at the stats on gear and mods to make sure I had the best set up I could get for the class, even as a strictly casual story player. Anything that wasn't optimum got either recycled to an alt or deconstructed for mats.
  11. And you learn something every day! Thanks for the tip!
  12. Two toons. One tech-based (for barrels) and one force-based (for hilts).
  13. No one is trying to change your mind. You have your opinion, you are fully entitled to it - as is everyone else. No one is trying to convince you of anything different. They are, however, expressing their opinion and their own perspective, as they are also fully entitled to. TKK is trying to show you why you have gotten so much pushback in this thread. He/She/They is not trying to change your mind about whether it is wrong or otherwise to praise the devs, nor is he/she/they insulting you. Anyone who does not agree with your opinion is not insulting you, they are just disagreeing (and doing so quite politely, in general). Not everyone who posts on this forum or plays this game comes from an English-speaking country, so there may be some issues with language and delivery. Understanding this and having some empathy about it may take some of the sting out of what they say if you find their message offensive. People are not going to stop complaining about issues they have with the game just because someone doesn't want to read it, and tells them to stop posting complaints. If they didn't love the game so much, they wouldn't complain about it to try to get a response to make it better....the time to really worry about the future of SWTOR is when people STOP complaining, because that means they no longer care about it.
  14. Once you have destroyed the box to expose the hook, you should click on the hook which acts as a grapple, pulling you up into the next level. Is this not happening? The box gets destroyed, but the hook remains intact.
  15. I suspect that they've probably figured it out by now - 9-10 years later......
  16. Never used class companions: Jaesa Williams The other whiny jedi one with an anger problem (can't remember her name) Skadge Broonmark Tanno Vik Doc Risha Rusk Akaavi Spar Raina Temple Malavai Quinn Eckard Lokin Nadia Grell Ship droid Class companions used then ditched as soon as possible (first companion): Vette Corso Kaliyo Never used later companions: Koth Vortena Jakarro Senya Tirall Z0-0M Ak'ghal Usar H2-WF All the Star Fortress companions (6 of them) Galactic season companions So yeah, perfectly happy to not have any more companions taking up room on my ships!
  17. I would love to have a ping to anywhere that's only double digits. At this moment (just past 8pm Thursday evening, NZ standard time): Leviathan - 309ms on Republic Fleet (10pax) Darth Malgus - 303ms in a stronghold Star Forge - 191ms in a ship Satele Shan - 193ms in a stronghold The joys of living miles away from anywhere....there's a reason why I don't group, even if I wanted to.
  18. Yup - 1 September is 1st day of spring for me and Trix. Can't wait - it's been a ghastly winter!
  19. If this is the one I'm remembering (been a while since I did this), you have to leave the base completely and go outside into the canyon (at the bottom of the ravine, not the top), then follow the path a bit until you come to a narrow track on the right that leads up to a dead-end. That's where you scan the tower on the horizon, directly in front of you. Other signal stations/amplifiers are in similar places in different areas along the ravine.
  20. Same for us here in NZ. Until they changed the start of Daylight Saving to the end of September/beginning of October (it starts 24 September this year), our unofficial start to summer was our Labour Day - the last Monday in October. Three day weekend, and the smell of BBQs and charcoal smoke spread across the Land of the Long White Cloud (Aotearoa - New Zealand)...rain or shine, the BBQ was brought out and fired up to celebrate summer starting!
  21. And you've just proved that you are a troll. Because NOWHERE in this thread did I ever mention 6.0 gearing or the debacle that was 7.0. You've dredged this up from who-knows-where in an attempt to gaslight and invalidate my opinion. The only time I mentioned that I had left for over a year (other than in my reply to you last night) was a post about the removal of conquest and the sense of progression, and that was replying to something completely different, I'm all in favour of significantly reducing the cost for server transfers, to assist those who wish to move to do so. Totally agree with the OP for this thread. PS: If you're going to troll, at least get your spelling and grammar right - it's 'brought', not 'bought'. 'Bought' is the past tense of 'buy'.
  22. Losing names is only 1 reason. Why do you keep focusing on only 1 reason? And again, that is not what I said. Edit: Keep going all you like - I'm off to bed now (it's late in my corner of the world, which is not the USA).
  23. Good try, but no. You don't get to twist my words like that. That is not what I said at all.
  24. Again, where's your evidence? This is still only a theoretical statement. You don't know that for sure. Are you Bioware's accountant? Do you have some inside knowledge of what happened in 2012 that makes a similar scenario likely for 2023? On the balance of probabilities, you are likely correct - for 2012. It does not follow, however, that the same statement will apply to a situation 11 years later. Again, if people are unhappy on a supposedly 'dead' server because they are not getting groups or pops or whatever (because their preferred playstyle is grouping), they could choose to transfer off. The OP has a good point, and perhaps, as has been suggested elsewhere in this thread, that a special event could be run at a reduced price for those who want to switch to do so easily should be something Bioware could consider before taking such a drastic step as server merges. The important thing here is player choice. The players themselves should be given the choice.
