  1. I'm sorry, as a healer, I get mercilessly gang banged far too often to have any sympathy for someone too stupid to work past heals.

  2. Playing a Sith Warrior developed in me a genuine dislike for the Republic.

     

     

    But that was nothing compared to how much I loathe them now that I've played a Trooper. I hate, truly truly hate, every Senator in the Republic. No exceptions. I would happily slit each and every one of their throats and send their children to labor camps if it were an option given in the game. Use Havoc Squad as an HONOR GUARD? The only thing keeping me from blowing your brains all over the console behind you is the fact that BioWare neglected to program that option into the game.

     

    The Trooper story line, from start to finish, is just one giant excercise in discovering just how much exactly can the Republic **** on their armed forces.

    • The original Havoc Squad? Betrayed and left behind to fend for themselves.
    • The Dead Eyes? Used as bait and then left to rot in Imperial prison camps.
    • Dagger Wing? Given bad intel then sacrificed up on the altar of political bull ****.

    It seems to me the most dangerous place to be is in a Elite squad within the republic. And not because you might get your face blown off or possibly tortured. No, it's because you are very nearly guaranteed to get stabbed right in the proverbial back by the very same people who are supposed to be WATCHING your back. You spend very nearly 1/2 of your story quest saving the Republic's elite of the elite from--Can you guess who?--THE REPUBLIC!

     

    The biggest difference between the Empire and the Republic is that at least the Empire is honest and upfront about your lot in life.

     

    The republic is far more sinister than anything the Empire has to offer up. I genuinely, genuinely, hope that in future expansions Troopers are given the option to go rogue just like Tavus did. Watching Aric asphyxiate as I throw him out the nearest air lock would be a dream come true. Getting to cackle madly as I make Garza run from Coruscant to Belsavis and then back over and over and over again until she dies from the strain would be an ironic yet fitting end to that hag.

     

    Then finally, at the end, given the opportunity to wipe my *** with the Republic flag as I dropped the original ZR57 right on top of the Senate tower and watch as every one of those scheming bastards burn... would be nothing less than sublime.

     

    The single best moment of the Trooper story line was when I got to leave that sniveling worm of a senator strapped to that bomb and listen with relish as he detonated all over the compound walls. My only regret? Not being able to take a piece with me as a souvenir.

     

    I really *really* hate the Republic now. I feel no sympathy for any of the atrocities they are forced, or have been forced, to endure. You deserve(d) every minute of it.

  3. Next, are healers very viable in PVP, or do you just become a HUGE target like in other MMO's? And at what level would be good to start PVP'ing. Im thinking of rolling a Sage.

    I won't comment on PvE because I rarely PvE.

     

    But in regards to PvP, see this post for my response. It's Combat Medic oriented but it applies to all healing archetypes.

     

    With that said, Sage is the single most complained about class in regards to being "OP" or OverPowered. Their healing is insane. Their utility is mind blowing. In PvP they are healing gods. Often doubling or tripling the healing scores of other equally geared healing professions.

     

    If you roll a sage, prepare yourself for a nerf. I'm not saying you *will* be nerfed but you should roll one with the mentality of, "I will get nerfed" so if it *does* happen you won't be taken by surprise.

  4. I can't speak for other classes but I will speak for my Combat Medic and Juggernaut.

     

    I can get 4 medals playing CW while 1/2 paying attention and watching family guy. While playing and not trying hard I can walk out with 6 medals. My Jugg? LOL. I play one handed while "entertaining" myself and surfing YouTube and walk out with 6 medals easily.

     

    The point behind giving medals a higher value and then capping the number of medals that can contribute to your total valor is to ELIMINATE the necessity to farm for medals. People will be less concerned with getting 12+ medals and more concerned with actually WINNING the match.

     

    The increased valor/comm value is for the commendation costs and gear accumulation changes that are in the works.

     

    People are making this a much bigger deal than it really is.

  5. While I can appreciate your desire to have people figure things out for themselves, I don't beleive that you put so much effort in to this "primer" without already doing the work yourself. Would it be increadibly hard to share those recommendations such as you did above for the entire paper doll section?

    I don't want you to take this the wrong way, really... I don't, but any work I've done outside of this thread is for me and me alone.

     

    I don't owe anyone anything. This is not my job. I don't get paid for this. And the reader's of this thread sure as shnitzel aren't my "employers". I don't inject my personal opinions on the matter simply because that's not what *this* thread is about. There are copious amounts of resources outside of this thread which do broach that topic and that's what *those* threads are about.

     

    *This* thread doesn't touch that particular topic because it is volatile. It's completely subjective. There are several ways you can gear yourself mathematically and have an amazing Mean Mitigation. And each way has it's own pro's and con's. Those pro's and con's are exactly what start endless debates and forum wars both here on the official forums, fan sites and theorycrafting sites around the web.

     

    The Primer is just that, a Primer. It's not intended to tell you how to gear or play your toon. It's not a Guide; the second sentence of the OP explicitly states that. It's here simply to educate and formulate tools and ideas with which players can make educated decisions on THEIR OWN.

     

    That's the last I will say on the matter.

  6. Help your healer by not fighting your healer.

     

    When you have to make your HEALER work twice as hard to HEAL YOU... there's a problem. If you're getting chain healed... stop pillar humping. Stop running away from your healer. Stop and look at your healer every once in a while.

     

    9 times out of 10 you're not getting healed because you keep LOS'ing your healer or your healer is getting gang banged and no one is bothering to help the poor sod out. Help HIM help YOU.

  7. Remove Inq/Con speed run and you have a completely different game.

     

    As it stands 2 out of 3 WZ's are won solely based on the amount of Inq/Con you have. Those being Voidstar and Huttball. He who has the most speed boost wins the match. End of story.

    Healers already got that many.

     

    And I frequently got plenty of kill credits because i didnt just spam heals, i did aoe's and dots between healing.

     

    Its just sad how ez-mode this is becoming.

     

    You're missing the point.

     

    The objective behind changing how much valor you get per medal and capping how many medals count towards valor/comm total is to REMOVE the "medal farming" mentality. Anyone can hit 4 medals easy. So now it's about WINNING THE GAME and not SOLO'ING for medals.

    "Hard core" PvP'ers PvP for the sake of PvP and to lord over their lessers. And by "lessers" I mean the chump lying underneath my boot heel. I didn't PvP grind levels 10-50 in WZ's (twice...) because of the "uber" gear and phat loots (<-- lulz). I did it because it was fun.

     

    You're mistaking hard core PvP'ers for hard core PvE'ers.

     

    They're two completely different beasts.

  10. Specifically when you reach capped resolve WHILE you are stunned and watch as your resolve bar is dwindling away while you're being whirled around in the air or going through electrical spasms and getting railroaded 3 ways to sunday.

     

    Don't get me wrong, I like the idea. Get stunned enough, you're immune. No problem there. The problem is the "immune" part works when it wants to. Sometimes when you're dead and in your spawn area. Yeah, that's always good for a laugh. I just think in it's current incarnation it's not quite where it should be and I hope the devs are looking into tweaking it a little bit.

    By the time I hit level 50 I will be Valor level 50. That means there's not many other people out there that will be as intimately familiar with your plight as I am. 50 unguilded valor ranks in the pre 50 bracket means 2 things:

    1. I can prove that I am not one of the BM's that farmed his rank during the 1.1 debacle.
    2. I can likewise prove that I did not kill trade for my rank.

    After 44 levels of pure PvP leveling (minus class quests) I have made a lot of friends on my server and A LOT of enemies. I have the luxury of enjoying some good conversation and joking from my allies pre and post match and likewise... I "enjoy" a lot of attention from my opposition. Some matches I have very little breathing room. Others I have nearly free reign to do what I will. Some days I have insane winning streaks. Others, well, aren't as enjoyable.

     

    This is what I have learned grinding to 50 almost solely through PvP as a Combat Medic:

     

    1.) Pre level 40 is tough. REAL tough. You're as squishy as they come. Survival is nigh zero. But this is a good thing. Because those 30 levels of squishy teach you a very valuable skill: survival. By the time you hit 40 and already have your entire level 40 PvP set purchased, stockpiled and awaiting your loving caress when you're able to wear it... you are a honed, lean, mean... coward.

     

    You know every nook and every cranny of each Warzone. Where to hide, how to pillar hump like the best stripper in vegas, how to bait and toss your followers 3 levels down so they're out of sight and out of mind and how to recognize a lost cause and get your butt out of dodge. LOS'ing becomes second nature to you. Checking your 6 to spot opposition is just a natural habit now. Stealth Scan has become an ingrained part of your rotations.

     

    If your team calls for someone to stall a CW turret... there's no person on the field that can run 4 imps around a CW pillar better than you can.

     

    2.) And then there's post 40. You've got all this shiny new gear. You look sleek. You look sexy. You're ready to rock some WZ's. Suddenly you notice something... you're tougher than usual. You can take a beating now. You're no Juggernaut or Guardian but damned if it doesn't take at least two or three people to shuffle your mortal coil.

     

    What do you do with this new found survival?

     

    You start learning that sometimes the best way to keep your team alive is to throw down some hurt. Plasma Grenade, Mortar Volley and Reserve Cell start becoming known abilities to you. You start learning when to spot the signs of clumps happening. To toss a Plasma first to cover up the Mortar Volley "footprint" and start raining in some pain. Now you're not only raking in 150-200k average healing but you're also pumping out 100k+ damage per match as well.

     

    You begin to realize you don't HAVE to run away from every fight. That if an Op thinks you're an easy target... he's got another thing coming. You learn that even if you can't kill someone you're at least tough enough and cowardly enough to kite his *** across the Alderaan map and through enough allies until they figure out, "Hey maybe we should kill this guy?"

     

    These are all things that come with experience. Experience, experience, experience. It sucks at first. BELIEVE ME I know how much it sucks. Been there, done that. But it *does* get better. Every death you avoid teaches you something new. Every loss shows you what signs to look for in a weak group of allies and what virtues you should emulate from your enemies.

     

    Learn to recognize enemy names. Specifically healers. Watch what your opposition is doing that you're not. Remember the clever hiding spots and LOS zones. LEARN TO LOVE Supercharge cells and how to identify when you need to pop it. Don't let it go to waste. Dying with an active use of Supercharge is a wasted death.

     

    Buy copious amounts of PvP adrenals and stim packs. Spec for your shield. Popping a PvP adrenal and throwing up your shield while you're surrounded by enemies is a guranteed 12 second test of frustration and annoyance for your opposition. DO NOT BE AFRAID to blow your entire resource pool to keep you or your team alive. That's what Recharge Cells is for. Don't be intimidated by that long CD timer on Recharge Cells. It'll be back up and ready for use before you even realize it.

     

    The single best tip I can possibly give you is this, and let it become so ingrained in your nature that you dream about it at night, get Supercharge ready BEFORE the shield drops on your loading area. So you're already at maximum load and can drop some serious heals right out the gate. When you die and are back in your loading area, look at the circle in the center of the shield that's blocking you from getting back in the fight. It's divided into 4 segments. If all 4 segments are glowing then you got some time to spare. Spam the **** out of Medical Probe to get 30 charges so Supercharge is ready to fire then hit Recharge and Reload to get your ammo back to full. Buff yourself and get ready to rock. You can get 30 charges and enough time to buff and reload your ammo with 3 segments left on the circle. So if you got 2 segments left of the circle when you load in after a death you have enough time to spam Med Probe 3 times and recharge your ammo before the shield drops. You can get 2 healing Hammer Shots off from the fall down from the loading area (provided someone is in the loading area with you) putting you at 24 charges. That's one Med Probe away from Supercharge capacity.

     

    Learn to do this all the time. You will notice an exponential increase in your healing abilities. Above all...

     

    Always be prepared.

    With that said, I'd gladly give up every offensive attack I have to have the utility that a Sage/Sorc healer has. Pull? YES PLEASE! Speed? YES PLEASE! Interrupt? ZOMG YES I WANTS IT NAO! And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

     

    That's ok though... at least I ain't wearin a dress.

  13. Man, I can't wait to get some Champ/BM gear.

     

    Because as a level 42 r39 commando medic... I get bent over two ways to sunday whenever a melee even looks at me. It takes everything I have just to survive let alone actually do damage back at the guy.

     

    From what you guys are saying once I get into some Champ gear maybe things will get better. All I know is I've become a pro at avoidance since I rolled a commando. No one can run their *** off in fear while flailing their arms in the air screaming like a woman like I can.

    Someone needs to inform the CSR's of this then. I just had an in game chat and the CSR *I* spoke with said whoever's defending the last round is the one who's supposed to win.
