MMOs in general aren't doing very well. The industry is moving on to more hybrid multiplayers like Destiny. When this game was released they tried too hard to go up against the behemoth, world of warcraft and it made it feel like a knock off. The idea of incorporating Bioware's talent at story driven games into an MMO based around their Old Republic franchise (one of the most popular in Bioware's stable) was ingenious but ultimately the format of the game itself felt more like WOW in Space and that reputation stuck. Now this game has evolved quite a bit over the years and is a generally enjoyable experience but you can see the cracks in the foundation here and there. It needs a facelift. But, add into the chaos that has gone on at Bioware with all of the chaos as Disney incorporates Lucasfilm and ontop of that changes to the gaming industry seeing players fleeing MMOs for other options across the board and makes the future look bleak for this game. Really it all boils down to money, as long as EA is netting more than this game costs I can't see them shutting it down unless they need the resources for another property.

I did the same thing. I had a 40something char and rerolled when I came back because I forgot how everything worked. Its not that the hard to level again.

I think everything should be crafted and you have to pay other players real money to buy them.

Other MMOs have tried in the past to go skill based but it never worked out. People need the greed factor to keep playing and show off to their friends.

I always aim for 60fps since that's the refresh rate of most displays. Anything over that is gravy.

The vid ram lets it hold more texture files. Makes loading faster. Its the GPU power that makes the biggest difference with your frame rate. The number of shaders it supports and cores and blah blah blah. Its not all vid ram. Go to the apple store, get on one and surf to NVidia's site and run their performance checker. That will tell you how well the GPU performs without having to buy one. Oh and I went on youtube and looked at some videos of games running on the retina macbooks and it looks pretty good.

Yeah that would be the problem. You could get a retina MacBook. I've seen those things in action and they are amazing computers. Very fast and the display is gorgeous. But you are right, they cost big bucks. I dunno about Alienware though. Before they were bought by dell they had a great reputation but now its been kinda spotty. Take a look at Falcon Northwest if you are going into the custom gaming rig thing.

On the empire side it seems to be Sith Sorcs/Assassins, they are freakin everywhere.

I think they should have left it all orange gear. It made the game unique and less wow-ish.

Are you using bootcamp or are you running Parallels/Virtual PC emulator?

You're talking about new textures. Thats not updating graphics, thats like changing the background image on your desktop. Its the same thing as before, they just gave it a new paint job...the engine is the same. Its like driving around in a 1982 Toyota Corolla...you can go and give it new paint, new rims new interior, hell you could make it look like a ferrari if you wanted to but underneath it all its still a 1982 toyota corolla.

It does. They layered some effects and remapped some textures to make them high-res but essentially its the same exact game engine they put out 10 years ago. In order to change the engine they'd have to rewrite the entire game. In that case it would be simpler to just create a brand new game...which is usually what winds up happening.

Its happened in every MMO i've ever played. Except for Eve Online. Thats some dedicated players they have.

Half a million subscribers is pretty good. And I believe EA has said in the past they make more money off the F2P players that buy on the cartel market. So if you combine the subscribers with the Cartel Market revenue I'd say this game is probably really stable.

I would definitely uninstall the old graphics drivers first and use the most recent ones that are specific for your card from the manufacturer's website. Just to be on the safe side.

I haven't noticed any difference except when they have those double xp weekends.

Uninstall the old drivers. Shut down and unplug the PC. Remove the old card. Put in the new card. Start up PC and install the new drivers. Thats basically it. However, make sure your power pack can handle it. Thats the first mistake most people make when they upgrade their video card for the first time. Check the wattage on your power pack in your PC and make sure its putting out enough power to handle the new card. The card should have a required power amount listed on the box.
