  1. I don't think you can. I do think your stuck renting. Also from what I understand you can no longer get or see the original release versions unless you know someone with an old copy.
  2. Years ago I would have agreed with you on the concept of adding faster speeders. But as I look back at when I played other games and then got the epic speed I feel that I lost something. Part of the journey is the journey itself. It seems to me that faster speeders equates to more missed in the middle as you can zoom on by. Maybe perhaps with greater speed you gain more instability. In other words I'm ok with the idea that perhaps the faster you go the easier it is for you to get knocked off.
  3. The problem with sandbox in this particular case is that the game was not, nor has it ever been marketed as sandbox, It was theme park from the start. This is a case of trying to change a game into something its not. This is not an improvement suggestion, its a new game suggestion. When I want sandbox I play EVE. Changing the entire model of the game is simply never going to happen. Improvements need to be made within the game model. Not outside of it.
  4. @Shaith, For me personally, I am not mad or grumping over maintenance. If you look at my OP, I even state that I don't mind the maintenance. I understand that it has to fall on someone. This entire post is in response to all the umpteen other thousand posts regarding the issue. This was a suggestive post to attempt to appease the masses instead of another complain about the fact there is maintenance in general post. I do too understand that rolling shifts cause issues for some personnel. I do think you missed the point of the post too by your comment . This post is not about Tuesday maintenance. It is about the off days that are somewhat planned as they are announced a day or two before they do it. I work for the California CSU. When we do server maintenance it takes quite a few people to produce the patches, but only 1 to 3 to patch and restart the servers. So those few would be burdened and the others would only need to be rustled up when disaster strikes. With a good team "disaster" is few and far between as the implementer(s) can handle 90% of the issues that arise. This was not intended to be mean or start any kind of debate or argument. I just felt that there were a few inferences in your replay that needed to be addressed in case others misunderstood my meaning as well. What people would really want is that BW does their maintenance on different time depending on the server location. This is what the veteran companies do. If BW does not want to do that and sees it best to do them all at once, well that is just fine with me. If nothing changes, oh well ill keep playing happily when i can. The unscheduled maintenance or extra maintenance or whatever you might want to call it will be heavy in the beginning. I do expect it to get better as time goes on. For now i say again, this is a suggestion for those who complain (I think legitimately) abut the high number of extra maintenance windows of late. A way to help deliver a product people feel they aren't getting.
  5. First I want to say that I do realize there are several other posts on the topic. But rather than attempt to hijack someone's thread I felt it would be better to make a new one. I would like to say that I admire that the weekly maintenance window changed a little, but not much to make a lot of difference to those who are normally effected by it. I have seen a lot of threads regarding this issue. I also do realize that no matter when its done, someone is going to get the short stick. A routine maintenance cycle is good too for everyone. Personally I don't mind that maintenance is the same time every week. I don't mind that its me who gets to not play because of it, I don't think many of the others who have complained mind too much that the weekly maintenance window is during their time window. It's the unscheduled that frustrates people. I suggest that the unscheduled times have their start time rotated by 6 hours. This creates 4 time slots on rotation. This would mean that no matter where you are you have a fair change of missing or getting the second down day of the week.
  6. Started with KOTOR and waited for this. MMO's for me date back to EQ. I have played a pretty good sampler platter of MMO's. I have tasted the workings of WoW style, Eve, DCUO, AoC, and more. I of course have been with the Old Republic series from the beginning. Personally the game is pretty much what I expected according to development notes. I must admit tho that I do consider myself a bit biased. Being such a fan of the Old Republic I was quite upset when i learned that KOTOR 3 was abandoned. So the fact that I even got something I think instills a bias of gratitude. There are probably three elements I had on a wish list. One could still be fulfilled in hopes of future large expansions. The first is to bring back Swoop Racing and Pazaak. This with some player credit gambling. Competition tiers that require large amounts of credits, thus being guild sponsored down to hobbyist level with credit rewards reflecting competition level or something. It could even be handled the same way pvp war zones are handled. But that's another thread. Second was to have some form of faction transfer. Too much light vs Too much dark would cause you to break ties and move to the other side in some way. Third was to make the game hard. EQ was hard. High levels were that way due to time investment. Vanilla WoW was a touch easy to my taste. Eve I think was balanced but lacked much in other venues. But again, another topic. That said, I do realize that I am the minority who would like to see the MMO require more time investment and less tools to do the work for you. I do recognize that this game is developed int he direction of the trends of all MMO's of late regarding this last point. Other than some wish-list stuff I don't have much to truly complain about. Overall I do enjoy it and am happy to pay for now.
  7. its a setting in your preferences menu. A simple check box will give you companion stats.
  8. This actually helps alot thanks . That was one thing I really wasn't too sure of about this game... CPU vs GPU dependency.
  9. I am all for kicking up the processor to something modern with some ddr3 ram. No doubt there, but its not my money. for him 50 bucks for ram is a lot easier to swallow than $300 for a new heart. he already has the 64bit OS. Im just not going to format his machine and put it on there until he has the ram to use it. Way back when, the windows 7 box came with both 64 and 32 bit disks. As for the Vid card, its a non issue. I had him kick up to a GTX 460sc 1gig card about a year ago. My machine runs that and I know it can handle it. I think part of his problem too is that hes running a 1900 resolution. I am also going to have him bump that down.
  10. Thats not a bad idea. Had no idea that they were down that low. Ill have to look and see what the AM2 socket chips are. Maybe Ill just buy one.
  11. The plan is to get 4 gigs of ram to add to it bringing him to 6 gigs total. Then I am going to get him on W7 64bit. As its been said, ram is cheap. But cheap does not mean much when nothing is gained. So I thought I would fish for options. I might even OC his processor. Ive seen that it can be safely be taken up to about 2.3ghz by others with the same chipset. Just don't want to spend money when it could be better used. Edit: Oh and I forgot to mention, He is running at about 20-30fps. Would like to decrease load times a little and boost the frame rate. The goal is 50 but if even 10 more is achieved he would be happy. Anyone else playing on a 2ghz chip? any issues for you?
  12. My buddy has a machine that needs a little more boost to play SW the way he wants to. He has a solid video card that I know can handle it. I think his problem is in the amount of ram he has (2gig). But I am after some opinions if buying the ram would be worth it. Keep in mind that this is only in reference to playing SW. Everything else he does the computer handles wonderfully. As I said, I think his problem is ram. With only 2 gigs he is topped out all the time. But is it worth buying the ram or do you think his processor will bottleneck him? The chip is an AMD Phenom X3 8250e 1.9 ghz 3x 512 L2 cache 2MB L3 shared cache.
  13. Mine is a little older but I am running everything the highest I can at around 100fps EVGA p55le motherboard Intel i5 760 2.8 quad core (oc'd to 4ghz) Coolermaster V8 cpu cooler (unnecessary when not overclocking) 4 gig gskill ripjaw ddr3 EVGA Nvidia GTX460sc dvd burner 500gig standard sata drive Win 7 64bit. Roswell case I put it together xmas 2010 at about 650 dollars built (monitor, keyboard and mouse not included). All the parts were ordered online. One note, I never upgraded my monitor so right now I am running duel screen 1024x768 monitors. The box you linked us a nice box, It can definitely play SW. My point is, If you can or know a buddy who can help, you can build a monster machine for less money. Only drawback is that you don't get that one stop warranty from iBuypower.
  14. I think people are upset because the unscheduled is always at the same time burning them while "everyone else" never misses it. I am glad to see the maintenance. I like it because it means that something is being worked on. Perhaps rotating the emergency maintenance times so we all get burned once in a while would make people happy?
  15. I am starting to see this feature more and more as I join new boards all around the internet. I know you can rate a thread, but I request the ability to vote for individual responses, I see a lot of good threads and many replies to say the same thing as someone else. I too have done this. So now I always think about how nice it would be to be able to also or instead vote for a response.
  16. I have to agree with some to say, bad suggestion. The game should be played as it was meant to be played. WOW was made with them, that's good and fine. SWTOR was made without, that's good and fine too. Personally I see the lack of macro's gives you a judge of your skill, not your programming savvy. It also aids to keep the many people who play these games who don't understand computer logic on a level playing field. For WOW and RIFT, I am a heavy macro user. For DCUO and SWTOR, it's not an option and I dont miss it. I look at it like playing a console game, it was made this way, therefore these are the conditions in which I have to play. Enjoy it for what it is.
  17. Theres a huge post covering this. go here and add yourself to the list. I know id love the feature.
  18. I will give you this one. Although I (no excuse to me) didn't even realize the event was happening until a few days of it ending, knew about the end date from seeing a sticky here. As I said, Ill give you this one. Not everyone reads the forms or is on a populated enough server to hear about it from other players. The launcher graphic should show event news (starting, ending, etc) As stated in many posts, The nature of the event would bring abuse to leave him there or anywhere immediately following. To leave him active would bread farming and then people would be complaining because they did not get to turn in their farmed after the event blood samples. It hasn't been 24 hours since it went down. Give it some time.
  19. to be brutally honest, Not BW's fault or problem. There was plenty of warning. BUT, they did state that the vendor may be back later. As posted in other topics, perhaps the vendor was removed so that people don't keep the plague going to create blood samples in bulk after the event ended. Give it some time for the infected to stop spreading the disease. BW may still yet bring him back.
  20. The suggestion I would offer is to keep the price high to remove items from your gear. I say we use this to take advantage of Mod Stations. Keep it expensive to do when out in the field. Make the cost significantly reduced if your using a mod station. Since you currently don't need a station to do modify your gear they seem like a pointless feature. Lets bring some life back into them and make them worth using.
  21. No. It limits the population giving players the opportunity to recognize and develop a rep with other players. In the end you stand a better chance of making new friends and the tool becomes a filler tool instead of a pug assembler. But then again, I am not a fan of the LFG tools as I feel it causes social areas to dwindle. Players are no longer socializing in a zone having conversations and interaction with each other. Now everyone is spread around the world. They make MMO's less social in my opinion. The broader the tool gets the less social we get.
  22. Actually as far as forum access goes, I find bookmarks work well there. But, in terms of an app; I like what trion tried with rift. The ability to chat with friends when you couldn't play and access to some mini games for little prizes. It also let you know where and what world event was taking place.
  23. A challenge and to demonstrate my vast superiority as the best gun in the galaxy!
  24. I think that's a great concern and it should be limited to family accounts.
  25. I too think this would be a great idea. Something that would require something like level 35+ and that the student to be 6+ levels below the mentor. While mentoring nothing could be gained but social points if the quest has already been completed. No XP for mob kills. Stacking Debuff for every level the student is under the mentor. Yeah, this could work well in promoting alts, new friends, and guild progression.
