Dev Post JackieKo Posted August 25, 2023 Dev Post Share Posted August 25, 2023 Hello everyone, We are moving forward with the next step in migrating our live servers over to the cloud! This will follow the same process as the Leviathan server migration that occurred last week. We will be moving the Darth Malgus and the Tulak Hord servers over on August 30th at 7am CT / 12pm UTC. Just like with the Leviathan server, players should expect a downtime of 6 hours for both Darth Malgus and Tulak Hord. All other servers will be taken down for approximately 1 hour and then brought back online. Players will be able to log in as normal once Darth Malgus and Tulak Hord are brought back online. I will be locking this thread to keep all relevant updates in one place. Once the move is complete, I will unlock this thread so players may submit feedback and reports as needed. If you are experiencing any issues, please submit a bug report using the in-game Customer Service function. Please be detailed in your report so our team has a solid idea of what happened in your experience. If you find that after the migration has completed and you cannot log into the game, please send an email to support@swtor.com to submit a report. If you are sending in an email, please be sure to include your account name and the email associated with your SWTOR account. Thanks! FAQ Will anything happen to my characters? No. Account and character data will remain unchanged throughout this process. Is this a server merge? No, we are transitioning the Live Servers from dedicated hardware to new technology in the cloud. 8
Dev Post JackieKo Posted August 30, 2023 Author Dev Post Share Posted August 30, 2023 Good morning, everyone! We are preparing to take down all servers to begin moving the Darth Malgus and Tulak Hord servers to the cloud. Expected downtime is 6 hours. For all other servers, expected downtime will be approximately 1 hour. I'll post updates in this thread when I have them. Thanks! 2
Dev Post JackieKo Posted August 30, 2023 Author Dev Post Share Posted August 30, 2023 The Satele Shan and Star Forge servers are now back online. Leviathan is looking to be brought back online in approximately 30 minutes or so.

Nadforce
Completed ahead of schedule. I wonder, is it also fully armed and operational?
Sundown
I was positively surprised to be able to play yesterday - and I did not notice any issue as yet (then again: I only played a little). So for me the move was a positive experience up to now, /thumbsup.
fabsus
there are tons of issues. empty legacy storage, ping fluctuations, desyncs, random disconnects. higher ping. but hey. on friday it's starfield time. so it was annoying, but i don't care. Shayddow
I was able to login to Star Forge but when I try to login to Leviathan I am getting messaging about a connection issue. This is at 17 hours after your message that it is back up.
Glzmo
After the move to the cloud, my ping to Darth Malgus has become considerably higher, which is especially bad for Galactic Starfighter.

Post cloud move, I've noticed my ping range has gotten wider to 274-597. Pre cloud it was between 305-484 While its great the ping can now drop under 300 (I'm from the APAC region so I'll take whatever 'wins' I can get 🙃), the wider fluctuations sometimes led to unexpected freezes in GSF & general gaming on the server. Before it was just slow but you could slowly adapt. Also noticed I'm getting game freezes in SF too (first time in like 2 years), but unsure if its linked to the DM cloud move or unrelated. DIVAvonFarstar
The ping of my connection to TULAK HORD is in the same range (28-33ms) now like it was before it moved to the cloud, whats new now are spikes into the 90-100ms range that cause litte freezes and audio problems that sound like an audio delay. Sylvannai
Server: Tulak Hord We in the Guild have had several "sessions" in the game since the migration and can only report positive things.👍Pings are well under 100 (mostly 30-50ms) and the consensus is that overall in-game performance has improved significantly. With me it can be that I feel it more clearly because my PC is even older. All in all we are very impressed. Edited September 1, 2023 by Sylvannai

I'm seeing this too from the US. The median ping is only slightly higher (5-10%) but the range is much wider. Prior to the switch I was seeing 150-175 pretty solid. After, it ranges from about 175-275 (stuttering starts around 225 or so for me). What is strangest about it is that it is the worst when the server is least populated. Playing very late night EU time (2-3 am) it is much more variable than when I play in more or less EU primetime. As far as variability between the three servers, they are all performing about the same.

The testing I did on Leviathan indicates that it depends on individual ISP’s relationship / connection to the Amazon back end.

I would agree, though there should be very little difference between my current connection to Ireland before an after the move. It's unlikely that somehow the connection from the US to Ireland got worse just by moving the physical location of the servers (no real reason most of the backplane would change). Some people are going to see a worse connection and some will see little change. It's also likely that as server population drops, the provider diverts resources to other areas so after thinking about it, it's probably expected to see a performance drop off as the servers depopulate. I agree that it shouldn’t matter. But when I tested last week between Leviathan & Darth Malgus (before DM went to AWS), there were half as many hops to Leviathan than to DM through my ISP. So it’s definitely possible that some ISP’s may have special routing arrangements for AWS. You can read my write up about the testing in this thread https://forums.swtor.com/topic/930751-leviathan-server-migration-updates/?do=findComment&comment=9774489 Edited September 2, 2023 by TrixxieTriss

The issue seems to be once the signal reaches Ireland (it's rock solid 100 ms up to that point). It may be related to the logging issue that they are going to monitor. Perhaps the connection to the AWS server is unstable.
KaltoVaxcter
I am completely unable to log on to the game at all... I can launch but after entering my password and security code, one of two things happens: either i'll get the Eternal Loadingscreen, (with or without picture) or absolutely nothing happens, except that I can't stop it..... Litterally!!! The Red "X" does not work, Ecs does not work, Ctrl+Alt+Del does NOT work. I manually have to cut power from my PC to remove the running game... It's the steam version. Suggestions for solutions??Edit: Checked on the same PC with the Kids account... Non-steam Version works fine...
