Showdown on Ruhnuk - how to progress without a companion

I'm having trouble with a lvl 80 sniper (IR 320) getting past the gold powertech and medic at the top of the ramp after Rass starts working on getting comms to the Mando fleet.  I can get the medic down easily enough, but can't get past the gold powertech on my own.

As a sniper, I do not have stealth ability.  Any tips or tricks or advice (other than "get a second combat style with stealth") to get past this point would be greatly appreciated.

Far and away the toughest battle of 7.2. Here is my trick and it works pretty well...

1) As Rass Ordo approaches the Communications Device to contact Jekiah in the cutscene --  hit Escape. It's fine if he does autostart the conversation, just don't let him complete it by hitting Escape. This means you, the player, will have to click the device to start the conversation where Rass stays behind.

2) Immediately before clicking the device, pop Heroic Moment. You now have a full Heroic Moment at your disposal for the fight. It helps a lot.

Thanks so much for your response. Great idea!  I'm already past the conversation, but will try and reset the mission and have another crack at it.

Edit:  It helped, but not enough. Still can't get past, although I can now get the PT down to around 30% before dying. I really don't know what to do now to get past this. :(

Haven't gone thorough the section with a sniper, but I do not think killing a single gold mob should be much of an issue on a DPS build

Not sure about your spec, so I will assume Marksman

  • precast Orbital Strike
  • then Ambush on Medic
  • Once Orbital is done, Maim on Gold
  • Finish off Medic (you have Takedown when he is under 30)
  • Move away when Gold casts his flamethrower

Also, defensive buffs (Shield Probe/Ballistic Shield) are your friends there.

Thank you - I will give this a try. Yes, she is Marksman spec - not sure if Ballistic Shield is available (I think it was one of *those* choices and I may have taken another, will need to check).  Shield Probe is my absolute go-to - I do nothing without it!

Normally a single gold doesn't give me much trouble, but having to take out the medic first means my health drops more than normal before I can get onto the gold mob, putting me at a distinct disadvantage.

Edit:  That was it! I changed to Ballistic Shield from Orbital Strike (used the Legacy one) and that seemed to give me the edge (plus good advice on the rotation).  Thank you so much!

The workaround is not to let the companion into the conversation.  Once you interrupt him go to the area where the NPC are at,  fight them with Rass, head back to the item to click, and let it go from there.  I had to do that on one of my characters

I didn't even think to look left past the blue clicky coms device for the mobs. I just assumed, obviously incorrectly, that they spawned after the conversation and Rass disappeared. Doh!

<<insert Jar Jar Binks voice>> Meesa need too loooka around beet more at environment! 🤪

The good news is there are some viable options here.

P.S. Tgiz, grats on completion. Not sure you play alts, but pretty soon you'll be getting the IRating on your gear up (which is much easier as of 7.2). Those alts will be ripping through Ruhnuk like a hot knife through butter.

There is a way.....

Spoiler

Don't Set ALL of the Explosives.....

Leave ONE unset then Rass won't leave you and you can kill that Gold mob...

Then just go back and set the last one and let Rass do his thing  😊

Good grief - why did I not think of that?! I had the exact same thought as Dasty!!

Fantastic! Thank you SO much for this - again, I didn't think that the mob was there until after the convo.

Very many thanks to everyone who provided such great advice, and so patiently. I'm very grateful and appreciative.

I did it that way the first time by accident.  Since then, I’ve done that each time.

There are two ways, one I found by accident.

1) Found by accident, if you don't complete the quest of planting the chargers (clicking the yellow targets) as soon as possible, Rass stays with you and you can confront the gold star enemy and medic with Rass. When he's defeated then complete the quest. Rass stays with communication and you continue. The gold star enemy and medic are still counted as defeated and gone. Play on.

2) Fight the gold star enemy and medic. Die. When you are cloaked to respawn, move to the purple quest place while cloaked. You complete the quest and get the cut scene. When you're in play mode again you still need to self-heal, but you are now in the next quest. You can open the door in that corridor and not have to face the gold star enemy and medic. Play on.

I did it just this week on a 322 geared Assault Specialist. Used the 60sec stun on the Pyrotech to take out the Medic, then killed the Pyro from range. It seems that most damage comes from the stacking debuff you get from the flamethrower, and since the Pyrotech does not seem to follow you killing him from afar was not too difficult. It was my 2nd attempt tbh, as the first time a week back or so  I went in all guns blazing not assuming anything was dangerous in story. I learned better. :D

funfact: if you leave Ruhnuk while on that mission coming back you first need to take out a couple of groups solo before even getting to the Pyrotech. 🥴

That happens on several missions throughout the game. Depending when you leave and come back your Companion is not there but should be. You can summon the Companion from your Companions screen. Rass only leaves when you complete the yellow targets mission.

Thanks for the tip. :)

In the specific situation it was unfortunately after planting all explosives and Rass being gone - and I could not summon a companion. In the end no big deal, as the enemies are pretty weak, but still an oversight as far as I am concerned.

Ouch. Good thing you were able to get by. As long as you can get to the gold star and medic it's ok to die there and get to the purple quest area when you respawn cloaked. If you could never get past maybe Customer Service can get you to restart the chargers mission, but otherwise I'm guessing you'd have to restart the entire story which would suck donkey.
