mrbarrel
Not sure if this will help, but I had a friend with a similar experience and the following worked for him: Increase the graphics settings to the maximum possible. Log out/Exit game.Re-start SWTOR, and bring all settings down to Low.Disable Bloom, and Disable Shadows (Off, not Low).Exit, and then Re-Start. Also, be sure Aero is disabled in Windows 7. It's an unnecessary resource hog. I tried this, and I'm still getting the low FPS. Thanks though! I did notice that the FPS is slightly better when I'm outside (I know I've seen some people having this issue in general, I'll look into that). Any combat still drops it to 20 though, even outside. mrbarrel
You are having the same problem non mac non bootcamp people are having. You need to install directX 9. It seems this game uses DirectX 9 and that DX10 and 11 try to emulate 9 and it sucks at it. Check this out: I followed the links and realized that I've already downloaded that update for Direct X. I'm still getting the low framerates. I'm starting to think this MacBook just isn't powerful enough? I though I would at least be able to get decent framerates on low settings. =( The systemrequirementslab.com said I'm good, but I also know that it isn't always 100% right. avalose
So I stupidly left my normal mouse in another state, and decided to replace it with a Magic Mouse. Does anyone else have really bad right clicking behavior with the game or is it just me? Is there some binding change I could use for the game to be happier?! The annoying issue is that the right click will work for about 2-3 seconds when held down and then it will stop moving my character in the drag direction. kitharen
I just installed Windows 7 64-bit and SWTOR on my girlfriends Macbook Pro (Mid-2009). It's 15", 4gb RAM, Geforce 9400M, 2.53 Intel Core 2 Duo. Nvidia drivers up to date, boot camp is up to date. On the lowest settings possible, even setting the resolution down to 1024, we still just barely reach 30fps when standing still. Is this Macbook just not powerful enough to handle, or should we be able to get a better performance out of it? I installed Windows 7 64-bit on a 13" MBP Mid-2009 (Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 9400M) and TOR is barely playable. In areas like the Jedi Temple it goes under the 10 fps mark but in open areas it's pretty stable between 25-30 fps. It's more fun playing with a better machine though. Sylin
Running Windows 7 64-bit on my late 2009 iMac i5 and swtor is running great on high settings. Define "great". What kind of FPS are you getting on the Fleet? in warzones? on Illum? regular questing? I'm curious because I have the step-up from your model: the i7, with the Radeon HD 5870 1gb, with 16gb of RAM. On LOW settings with Shadows Off (1920x1200 res), I can get around 30 FPS on average, with dips down into the teens on the Fleet, during some holo conversations, and other odd times (like when walking IN to a building, where by all respects the FPS should go UP, not down). Other times the FPS hovers around 50, for reasons I can't figure.
mongbeany
Hey, I just wanted to quickly post about running TOR on a late 2010 Macbook air, 4gb ram, intel gma 320m. I've got all of the settings down to low, though did have the textures up and realised I had grass/tree detail set to high last night. However, i've been really impressed with how this machine has run the game. In the open i sometimes get up 50-55fps. And it's only really on the imperial fleet and big wz like illum that the game gets choppy. *also note 16 mans are a bit iffy. I've levelled a healer from 0 - 50 on this machine and am now running EV on hard mode. I would still quite happily play on my MBA but feel that feel that I'm perhaps not seeing how pretty the game really is and also, would like to have a bigger screen. Can anyone tell me how the game looks/runs on the latest imac 27" and if you're able to run with all the settings maxed out? (im waiting on eggshells for apple to release an update to the imac line as it's usually around february, if i'm not mistaken.) KimaHayuk
Hi All, I'm hoping someone might be able to help. I'm running SWTOR on a Win 7 x64 2009 iMac i7 2.93 GHz using ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5800. The game ran fine immediately after I installed it but after I quit the first time, anytime i've tried to boot the game I get a black screen, though I can hear the menu screen music playing in the background and the cursor has changed from the windows standard to a yellow swtor cursor, so I know the game is running. the first time I even heard the cinematic but got no video. same thing happened in the public beta but I was too busy to f with it and there was no support available. I've got the latest catalyst drivers and there is nothing on the Omega site for Win 7 x64. lemme kno if I can provide more info or if anyone has ideas. (im waiting on eggshells for apple to release an update to the imac line as it's usually around february, if i'm not mistaken.) The 6970m in the 27" will probably not be able to run TOR at a high FPS with all settings maxed due to the native 2560x1440 resolution. But you should be able to get pretty good performance on fairly high settings running at 1920x1200. The 6770 version will be less powerful, obviously. I would definitely wait for the new model at this point, it should be a huge upgrade. But it might come a bit later than usual this year. Karquile
I run SWTOR on a 3.4GHz 27" iMac (mid 2011) with 16GB RAM and the 12.1 Mobility Catalyst drivers on the HD 6970M display. I'm actually loading the game from an external FireWire 800 drive (MiniPro 240GB SSD) because I didn't have enough room on my Boot Camp partition. Everything runs perfectly and the game looks great. With graphics preset to High, I get about 55-59fps in 1920x1200 mode and 35-40fps in 2560x1440 mode, full screen. It would be much more convenient for me to run a Mac OS X bottled version. But there's no question that the hardware supports the game well. Edited February 12, 2012 by Karquile

Instead of using Catalyst to install the driver I used Device Manager. now everything's working like a charm. thanks for all the suggestions! Trooper-Orange
Hello fellow Mac users, Just thought I would post my experiences with my Macs should anyone else be searching for this information in the future. 2009 iMac Core i5, 12 GB RAM, Radeon 4850 512 MB. Before anything else, for mobile cards like the 4850, install these drivers: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/mobility-radeon-drivers-support/206549-ati-catalyst-mobility-11-12-display-drivers-notebook-computers-13-12-2011-a.html This is in Windows 7 X64 via bootcamp. Settings at 2560x1440 are V-Sync off, everything high, grass maxed out, shadows off, AA off. Usually 50~60 FPS. For more detail go to 1920x1080, shadows on, 30~35 FPS. Runs great at native resolution 2560x1440 with everything on high, save shadows (off) and AA (off).B The 4850 in the iMac is a mobility part. Apples drivers are crap. Normal AMD/ATI drivers however will not install as iti s a mobility part. So instead, use the Mobility Modder ATI drivers. Get the latest greatest drivers install no hitches. (See above)Check compatibility for the launcher exectuable and set it to Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode, otherwise blurry textures. (Search the forums for how to do this.)Download and install tne Direct X 9 runtime, will offer good speed increase. (Search forums for how to do this.) Macbook Air 2011, Core i5, 4GB RAM, Intel HD3000. The video card is weak, under Windows 7 x64 running at native resolution 11" 1366x768 everything on low, except textures and texture ansiotropy. 25 ~ 30 FPS, playable, but not brilliant. See above fixes for compatibility mode and DX 9 runtime, apply here as well. Parallels Works amazingly well with a Windows 7 X64 virtual machine, latest version of Parallels (7?) on 2009 iMac. FPS is not as robust as bootcamp however. At native 2560x1440 most settings low for a 35~40 FPS. Dropping resolution helps both FPS and enable higher settings. Most important it does work, game is 100% playable, and even at decent framerates.
Karquile
I tried really hard with Parallels including a dedicated game mouse, but I couldn't get rid of the crazy spinning mouse thing AND keep my yellow game cursor at the same time. It was good enough to slice and trade, but not to play, so I'm back in Boot Camp (and loving it).
Zrathen
I comfortably run on a 2010 Macbook Pro and it works quite well. I got a few games I've always ran using windows so I know my way around it but its pretty basic n simple.

There is a mouse option somewhere in Parallels for mouse smoothing that will take care of the spinning. Not sure about the yellow cursor though. Yeah undoubtedly bootcamp is the way to go. I am just surprised Parallels works at all to be frank. I recall the days when trying to do any 3D in a virtual machine was an outlandish impossible to imagine feat. lol
Mellican
I have a 2009 IMac with I7 processor and 16GB of RAM, running Windows 7 Prof x64. I get 60 fps in most zones, and about 25-30 in fleet, so it seems to be working ok. I am set to the lowest graphic settings..if I run with the medium setting I drop to 30-40 usually with 15-20 in fleet. I don't mind running it on the lowest setting though. It has worked ok for me. Drebs
Does this sound right? I'm running a 2011 MacBook Pro with an i7 processor, 6770M Radeon, and 8GB RAM. Initially, my FPS was terrible, but improved greatly after updating my AMD driver. When questing, I can generally run on high settings, and even turn on shadows and AA, and still be able to play, with things improving in instanced solo zones. This is of course running at the 15" 1440 x 900 screen resolution. However, there are a few things that instantly pull my FPS below 20 and make the game unplayable: 1. Warzones -- I have to turn everything to low and turn off shadows and AA to get any kind of decent performance. 2. Flashpoints -- same as above. The system lags too much on high and I risk killing the group (I tank on a guardian). 3. Fleet -- Obviously. 4. Running at 1920 x 1080 on an external monitor. It will run for awhile on low settings, shadows off, no AA, but the system inevitably overheats and shuts down. Is this in line with what everyone is experiencing? I play WoW and Skyrim on high settings and typically get acceptable performance. Any advice is appreciated.

Tyua
I have an early 17' 2011 mbp with a 6950m, 2,3HGz proc and 8Gb of ram, plus an SSD intel postville v2 160Gb. I play at 1920x1200 resolution all the time and don't have any overheat problem. I use a ramdisk to reduce (a lot) lags. I also needed to work on the SSD drivers to enable the TRIM command. You can find both of these actions on internet. I also use LubbosFanControl : http://sourceforge.net/projects/lubbofancontrol/ This is a must-have for playing on a mbp, you will choose thresholds activating your fans much earlier. And to preserve my laptop I also play with an active laptop cooler, but if you use LubbosFanControl this is optional. The last but not the least, I constantly update my gpu drivers from the following page : http://downloads.guru3d.com/Videocards---ATI-Catalyst-Windows-Vista_c31.html During a while I was constantly playing with all the settings to low, but since I use a ramdrive plus the last ATI beta drivers I pushed the graphics settings to high for mesh level, texture quality, and grass & trees complexity at maximum. I left other settings to the minimum. If I use shaders at high the game rendering is not smooth enough, same for AA, shadows and lights. If someone has a better solution noticely by modifying the config file I am interested. Edited February 27, 2012 by Tyua
Ravynwynd
Boot Camp works -- BUT It is a cheap fix. It is a cheap approach. Let me ask this. How many producers, game designers, game developers, programers, game artists, game music composers, etc. use Apple products such as: iPhone, iPod, or the ever popular iPad? They will notice as countless millions of Mac using consumers, that there is a difference between Mac and Non-Mac products. This comment is not a who is better type of comment. It is a, "they are different kind of comment." True. Mac has Boot Camp. And if you are like me, you use Paralell with your Mac to run Mac and Microsoft Windows 7- BUT and this is the big BUT. Mac's are different then PC's- The keyboard of the Mac is different from the PC. The PC having a "Number Pad" with Num Loc, etc. So. What the developers have to do, is tweak the the keybinding to work with the Mac. I'm sure there are other features of the Mac that are equally different. i.e. the mouse or Magic Trackpad (Which I think would be a great thing for gaming on the PC)- So. It would be great for the developers to reconsider their "cheap" approach to addressing the development/design for the Mac. I personally do not ever want to play a game on a PC, I do not want to ever own another PC. However, I do enjoy games, online games such as Star Wars the Old Republic. TastyGav
I have an iMac I bought in 2011, installed bootcamp a day ago as well as SWTOR. Unfortunately when I tried to run the program it would come up with an error code 7. I found out that this is due to my ATI Radeon HD 5***(can't remember the exact model) not being seen by my windows partition. I went to AMD's driver page (http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx) and downloaded the automatic detect and install drive whilst on the windows partition of my mac. It did all the work for me and the game is running smoothly so far.
RavnShadw
Howdy. I can't for the life of me get SW:TOR to start on my late 2009 MacBook Intel Core 2 Duo 2.26 Ghz 4GB memory, running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit SP1 on a Boot Camp partition. My video card is an NVIDIA 9400M. I've got all current Boot Camp and NVIDIA drivers (just installed 295.73-notebook from 2/9), have installed the DirectX 9.0 files from the full 100 MB download, and have done everything I can think of to get the game running. When I first logged in on the machine, I went through the initial loading screen and watched the intro movie, then the screen flashed and the client closed. Subsequently, I log in, the splash screen appears, the screen flashes and I briefly see an image which I assume is the server selection screen and then the client closes. I'm assuming this is a video card problem, but I really can't tell. Does anyone have any advice for how to get the game running? Edit: My problem was due to a corrupted Launcher file. I'm working fine now. Edited March 3, 2012 by RavnShadw
Toxen
The keyboard of the Mac is different from the PC. The PC having a "Number Pad" with Num Loc, etc. So. What the developers have to do, is tweak the the keybinding to work with the Mac. my Mac keyboard has a number pad (10key). As far as I know, only the new wireless keyboards forgo them in order to make them smaller like the laptop versions but they still have the full sized ones for sale.
