Too laggy to move/fight

dmetria

Recommended Posts

Everything stopped lagging for me when I went from Low on everything, including shadows, to high for everything, but turned off shadows.

Apparently some graphic cards seem to prefer high over low.

But shadows are always the issue.

Just like in Babylon 5......

I'll try the Shadow's off/ set things to high tonight

Not sure where to post this, but here goes.

The game is too laggy to move/fight. Moving/turning to run in a straight line is impossible. Forget actually fighting... Getting the stories/quests work fine.

My graphics are as low as they will go. I played in one of the betas and after reducing my graphics I was able to move around fine. But now that's not even helping. I get 4 bars on the meter, which suggests I should be fine...but not so much.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

I had the same exact issue and I was BAFFLED because I have an Nvidia 560Ti graphics card which isnt the BEST but its certainly above average. I ran The Witcher 2, BF3, and Crysis 2 on HIGH and got over 60 fps NP. I finally got so sick of the 15-20 fps that I went to the local retailer purchased a new pc (Asus 8gb Ram, i5 processor and threw my 560 ti in there) and whadayaknow...75 fps..constantly. I dont know what kind of video card you have if you have one at all but a lot of people overlook their cpu. Might be time to upgrade

I don't think it takes much PC to run this game. I am having no issues playing and mine is pretty old. 2.4G quad with only 3 gigs of ram on windows XP, running a nvidia 8800ultra. The HD is 10k rpm, if that helps I don't know. I am on a data T1 though and wonder if the connection is what makes the difference, its 1.5 megs Symmetric (up/down) fixed IP.

I dont understand why i can run games like Left 4 Dead, and Modern Warfare 2 perfectly on PC, but not TOR..

I have all settings on low and i get 5-11 FPS in Cities/Forests. if i go up to a wall outside a building and press against it my fps increases to 25 or so.

My parents cant afford a gaming laptop or pc =/.

I noticed that there is no draw/view distance setting in this game's graphic's option. I decided to run this on my laptop to see these issues for myself. I noticed that when I play from a bird's eye perspective, looking down on my toon with the camera distance set to 30%, I get 30 FPS ish. When I look up to target enemies from a distance, it drops to 10 FPS. On Coruscant, there are huge buildings and flying cars being rendered in the distance, which look cool on my desktop, but perhaps for these low end systems having a feature to not render these types of objects could help increase FPS. Afterall, they have no impact on story or gameplay and are just there for aesthetic purposes. Just an observation as not everyone can afford an upgrade or a new machine.

Analyze your wait chains in the resource monitoring application in windows.. it will let you know what and how many threads are being used by which processor, and which threads are becoming conflicted by possible "child" processes...

i analyzed many different files posted in this threads and others and i foundout what is causing the issue... However; my thread was deleted with the fix that bioware needs to make to keep these issues at bay with multicore processors and sli motherboards...

sorry they deleted it, what i posted will work. but i refuse to post it again as it has been deleted twice now and it was roughly 20,000 lines of code. (or about 4 post worth of strings)

and since it was deleted twice, im afraid i will get banned or suspended for reposting material they have already deleted twice.

Rumor has it that certain graphical preference options were left out of this current build due to bugs and a need to have a stable ish launch. Hopefully, they will get put back in with an upcoming patch and help the game run better for low end systems and look better for high end systems.

My system has a much higher spec than the game recommends , but I do get lag spikes now and then , probably due to an overpopulated server.

Are you playing on a high pop server? if so:-

You could allways try setting a character up on a low pop server and see how well that runs.

If you are using a desktop you may get away with updating your graphics card , there are some cheap but good ones out there these days.

You can also try to optimise your system for gaming , try looking on the windows website.

...is this really still ongoing?... i have tried all these things with no fix.. actually if people werent talking how bad it was i wouldnt even notice a problem... my view never stutters or lags... but i read all this about people talkin 110fps and i run at 25 no matter what i do.. i have twin 9800gt's using sli.. and a core 2 quad overclocked from 2.6 to 2.93.. maybe its just a problem for specific computer setups?... or maybe its an invidia thing because the link to computer optimization an admin put sent me to some thread where the guy raved how 90% of the recommended cards where radeon... http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=22796 i have like twice the visual requirements of this game and less then half the frame rate of others and its frustrating

THIS IS NOT AN ISSUE WITH YOUR COMPUTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SOLUTION: Okay guys, I know you are all very upset. So was I, trust me. My computer is dang decent and this was blowing my mind! Well guess what? You don't have to buy a new set-up IF YOU MEET this one simple condition......

Do you lag the hardest inside buildings? If you say yes, then delete your client completely and re-download it. Problem solved! Just like magic! Crazy huh? You're welcome.

This will fix your issues. IF you do not lag harder in buildings, then I regret to inform you that something is wrong on your end.

Enjoy! ;) & Happy Holidays... send credits to Dusk on The Crucible Pit server as a thank you. lols

I have a good rig and great FPS when outside but the minute it go into a cave or other interior space it drops my FPS to unplayable levels…the strange thing is that it is intermittent. I haven't tried turning shadows off (that fix could point to a Bioware issue and not our hardware) can someone explain in detail how to implement the fix above? How do I "completely" remove the client and then reinstall it?

I am having the same issues. My FPS is around 90fps in most places and I was leveling fine as Sith until I came to my first big city. That was 3 days ago and I haven't been able to play much since because it drives me nuts how bad the lag is in the city.

Most of my computer parts are stock

CPU: Sempron x2 dual core 2200

GPU: Geforce GT 440

2x1gb of RAM DDR2

The cpu is horrid, but it scores higher benchmarks than the minimum.

Just ordered a new budget overhaul and hopefully everything will be good to go when i get tomorrow

CPU: Athlon II x3 455 RANA (hoping the odds are in my favor and it unlocks to Phenom x4 b55)

A880g+ Mobo

2x2gb RAM DRR3

PSU: Antec EW EA500D

I'm hoping the new upgrades will make a difference, if not I'm def not gonna be buying a subscription to a game that's unplayable when you go to a city.

I'm having similar experiences as others here.

Just got the pc for christmas. it's nothing special by any means but it has a pretty good processor and lots of memory. graphics card is a Radeon 4200, which is mediocre at best by now.

Nonetheless, it seems like I should be able to get over ten to twenty fps on the lowest of low settings.

I've turned off shadows. Any ideas?

3.0 ghz quad core amd processor

nvidia 450gts

4 megs of ram

The game runs excellent in highest setting all over the game, shadows on, bloom on, highest resolution. As soon as I join a pvp arena it runs like garbage. Interaction with a large amount of players is when the game just goes to poop.

For me the issue is player interaction of large amounts. The game itself runs fantastic minus pvp and heavily populated cities.

Stop messing with your rigs. this game is coded to run cutscenes. this game was not ready for release. this game was released unfinished. i don't want to hear "mmo's are never finished" thats crap. this game will have half the servers within 6 months.this game will be bleeding subs in 30 days. this game will be ftp within a year. this game will go the way of aoc, aion and all the other pathetic titles who have failed. all that will be left is a mish mash of e-peen stroking pvp players crying the servers are empty.

Very much disagree. And i've played Warhammer online, Aion, and age of conan

Turning shadows off helped a lot, I went from ~20-35fps to 50+ fps in all areas so far inside and out except outside on alderaan, especially in the city. Even with no other players in sight I'm lucky to get more than 25-30fps. Tried changing all other settings, no difference in fps between absolute minimum and absolute maximum settings. Tried a 30% processor overclock and no more than 1-2fps improvement. Anyone got any other ideas?

Interesting, I am glad to hear it isn't just me.

I was running a fairly mimimum pc with no lag, but with only 2 gb RAM I was hitting near the max my comp could handle, so I ran out yesterday and bought a new pc..

8 GB RAM, AMD A8-3800 Quad Core Processor, ATi Radeon HD 4670 vid card...now my FPS is terrible and I lag so much I have a hard time moving in the game.

My new PC may not be top of the line, but it shouldn't be running MUCH MUCH WORSE than my old system....

Not to mention the game seems to lag my entire PC.
