Please stop Auto-Triggering Chapters and Cut Scenes

Title pretty much says it all, but in defense, my reasoning follows:

My first couple characters, I actually enjoyed the auto-trigger cut scenes and the end of certain missions. It felt more natural that the NPC would acknowledge me as soon as I walked into the room instead of waiting for me to find them and click them. Unfortunately, when I got to the Smuggler play through, I discovered this to be a major annoyance.

Every time I go to a new planet, the cut scene with Risha auto-starts rather than waiting for me to trigger it. Sadly, when it does this, the cut scene glitches and there are now TWO Risha's - one from the cut scene and the other as background NPC working away at whatever console she uses in the Cargo area. To fix this, I have to [Esc] out of the cut scene and manually trigger it - EVERY SINGLE TIME.

When out in the world doing missions - particularly in KOTFE and KOTET missions, conversation cut scenes will often auto-trigger as soon as you are done killing the mobs that end the most recent stage of the Chapter mission. Unfortunately, when these auto-trigger, you are then unable to loot the mobs you just killed, and when the cut scene is over (or you [Esc] out) you are still unable to loot them because triggering the cut scene kills that option - I lost a purple and a couple blues that way in KOTET chapter II

The chapters auto-starting is just annoying and feels very disjointed. There are in-game mails (story mails) that are triggered after completion of certain chapters that are supposed to wrap up the story of that chapter. If you want to get those mails at the appropriate point in the story, you have to manually escape from the start of the next chapter to go and read them, else you end up doing what I did in KOTFE and reading 3-chapter old mails talking about hunting someone down after you've already killed them.

I can't find a good reason for auto-starting each Chapter as soon as the previous one has been completed, unless EA/BW is just afraid that if we stop playing for a moment without being in the middle of a mission, we might decide not to continue ...

It's also super annoying during KoTFE and KoTET when you want to do the following -

- Alliance Alerts to recruit new team members.

- Hand in crates for the alliance

- essentially anything that requires you to speak to someone in the alliance base.

After exiting cut scenes to do this, they auto trigger on many chapters the moment you enter the alliance base, over and over with no way to stop them, so you can't get into the base to go chat with anyone without triggering the auto- cut scenes.

Strange hitting escape lets me pick up the loot. What I dont like is how they made salvageable foes disappear so fast you cannot salvage them because they're gone before rest of mob is dead. And in one scene in KOTFE its programmed so you have to kill the droid first because the Knights are shielded until its down. And it doesn't stick around for more a few seconds and cannot salvage it while still in combat. What I have lost loot to is the item simply not being collectible because the foe died inside the scenery. Or even when you are standing right on top of the body you get "too far away" message. That happend to me in KOTFE too. And they need to stop with the invisible foes I cannot hit because only my companion can see them.

The Auto triggering chapters is not much of an issue for me. I would however like it if BW still let you send out comps on crew missions when you have to use a story bound companion. When all other companions are removed from your list of available comps. At present I have send out any crew on missions before I start these story chapters. Well same also happens when you first get to Ossus, so not just KotFE chapters and onwards. Not a huge issue I know, but would be nice.

I second this, we should still be able to send our comps out, it's a pain having to go back to the stronghold, just to send them out, then continue with the chapters.

especially when the companions being 'hidden' are not even related to class or expansion story arc (namely CC and event companions). "Immersion", to a point, is fine and all... but this nonsense is just another foray into the extreme range of reactive restrictions.

Dug up this thread for the same reason - I can't even check my mail during the run of auto-starting chapters and cut scenes. Sometimes hitting ESC aborts the cut scene entirely and continues the story (rather than taking you back). Supremely annoying. Give me control!

The simple way is to hit ESC while the cut scene is running then hit EXIT. This will dump you on Fleet then go to your Stronghold that will break the companion lockout. You can then call your companions or read your mail. If you want to go to your Alliance Mission Headquarters you can teleport to one of the Alliance Mission Specialists without triggering the Chapter.

companion lockout comes back as soon as you start the mission, and even when they return after the mission, they are still gone, you can't resend them without exiting again, unfortunately :(

Am I missing something here? It's been a while since I've done any KOTFE/ET stuff, but I seem to recall that after the cut scenes it was perfectly possible to go to your Stronghold or whatever. I would sometimes go to my stronghold and get better looking armor for the companions.

I also recall that, after exiting to my Stronghold there would be a 'quest' in my quest log, to return to KOT at the point I left. (but only if I exited before doing anything.)

🤔 🤷*♂️

You can escape it and do what your saying. But sometimes it takes you back to the fleet or leaves you stranded places.

not to mention, if you are trying to build up mats for crafting, you have to keep popping back to the stronghold, to send them out again :/

If you ESC during the chapters opening scene it will usually take you to Fleet. If it does not, going to your Stronghold WILL break the Companion lockout. Then so long as you don't go through the Alliance Mission Headquarters Green Portal you can teleport directly to one of your Alliance Specialists without triggering the Chapter again. But if you go through the Green Portal it WILL Auto-Trigger the chapter to start and lockout your companions again.
