MartinSPT
After Doing all of your specified steps, I am no longer able to access my AMD Vision Engine Control Centre. I keep asking that they remove the link to this thread on the recommended. Most of the items listed will SLOW down your computer in general and the game, and will cause problems. I even asked the author to contact me so I could have a OS Engineer talk with him as to why his 'around the web' myths are dangerous. Sorry you had problems. The quick way to fix things... 1) Open System Restore (Hit Windows Key - Type Restore) 2) Restore your computer to a time before you made any of the listed changes, like the day before. (If that no longer works, as some of the steps in this list DESTORY your ability to easily fix your computer, try to undo every step on the list.) And people STOP turning off Aero... (Test it yourself, open IE page and maximize it and restore it several times. In Basic or Classic mode, you can literally watch things on the screen draw and it is slower. And this is just tiny 5% of the reason Aero is faster than Basic and Classic modes...)

If you turn of aero, you move the rendering of windows stuff from gpu to cpu and the gpu can handle it much better than the cpu ever can, even with the fancy of aero extras. Teefal
I performed the steps on both my wife's and my computer and now have a noticably longer load screen time (minutes longer). We're running Macs with bootcamp 3.3. Anyone know what made it do that? We started from a fresh Windows 7 install on both machines. Quickglue
Just for the record, disabling Windows Aero theme will also disable Windows V-Sync which means you'll get screen tearing no matter if full screen windowed or what you do.
Quickglue
I have a question for you guys: Which part of the tweaks disable the system wide V-Sync? All the tweaks in relation to themes and Windows Aero? or are there others too that will affect this? Because I want to use this guide but I certainly do not want to turn off Aero since it means that the system V-Sync will also be switched off. andy_gifted
Great thread, has been a great help. Quick question however. Since making these changes I can no longer set an image as my desktop background, only have a solid colour. I can't work out which of the changes I've made did this, if anyone can let me know that would be great. Thanks
MartinSPT
Great thread, has been a great help. Quick question however. Since making these changes I can no longer set an image as my desktop background, only have a solid colour. I can't work out which of the changes I've made did this, if anyone can let me know that would be great. Thanks Open Restore, and choose a point before you started making these changes. 99% of the items in this list achieve nothing, and many actually harm performance overall. The main tip is to flip the XP Compatibility option on the Shortcut, this gives more GPU RAM to the game. That will speed up low end GPUs and low end VRAM systems, and will allow more RAM for high end systems, resulting in better quality textures being used. Things like 'turn off Aero' 'turn off search' actually lower the overal performance of your computer and make NO impact on SWTOR. The author of this thread is using myths from the Vista era of computing, that have been refuted time and time again. Bing/Google the items yourself, notice the actual technology sites that do performance testing and not just 'assume' tell people to leave these settings alone. PeepsMcJuggs
As a quick heads up to folks, GameBooster is no longer going to be offered for free after June 30th. If you haven't tried it yet, now's your last chance to get a full, free copy. RipperNyght
I am running the game on all high settings with my new ASUS Gaming LapTop with WIN 7 HE. Runs beautifully with no drop offs or lag and smooth as silk. Now my wife has an Alienware LapTop with WIN 7 HE and it seems to be taking forever just to install and patch the game. Her system is barely lower then mine and I installed in a very short time for some reason.
JediMasterSkid
I have horrible fps sometimes during the game it's a respectable 20-30 fps then it drops to 0.1 then to 1.0 fps for a few minuets and then it goes fine and this is just me on my ship. Her is my spec if someone could look at it for me please. I'm not very pc savvy at all. Yes it has all the same stuff as Win 7, but runs slower than win 7. & was made to replace vista cause of vistas bug issues.

tromatizer
Thank you soooo much! I just bought a laptop from a buddy (it had a busted screen but I use the TV as a monitor anyway) and hadn't played computer games.since Starcraft. I was so pumped to play this game but the frame rate was all effed up, even on the lowest settings (I meet the minimum requirements just barely). I kept trying to find ways to turn off os features I don't need and this guide just made did it for me! The game runs a lot smoother and other games I didn't have issue wit, I can run on higher settings better than before! Much love!
