Level 50. My view of the current state of the game (wordy)

I love that I don’t need to rely on others to enjoy this game. This means I don’t have to play with jerks that ruin my game experience and focus on helping guild mates. This game is almost a perfect MMO imo. It’s not WoW and most of us are here because of this fact. The game focuses more on the story then on the grind to level 50. This process makes the game more enjoyable.

It's wow in space. It's wow with many less features than a modern mmo, even one that opened in 2011 had.

In agreement with all the OP comments. The game is fun 1 time through, after that whats the point?

I got over-excited the first few days of pre-launch and bought 6 month sub right away...ugh, never doing that again! oh well.

Again though, totally agree with OP on every comment.

OP, you're correct. Anyone that has really played to 50 and been there for a couple of weeks at least really has put in enough time to notice all of the bugs. If you've gone to Operations? Man, THERE you'll see just how many more bugs there are. RNG is an absolute nightmare in OPS right now with how it can affect the outcome of a fight. You can be as skilled as you want but the RNG will own your face. Its really a hot mess and I hope that BW fixes it all soon.

omg stop it with the stupid the game just came out argument, it's the core of the game that is problematic and that is really hard to patch

Yup the main reason the game sucks:

Hero Engine

Thats it, thats the main core thing that is making the game so terrible. Not the story, not the lack of features the Engine.

Now nearly all the bugs are a result of the hero engine. Ability delay, things randomly changing, the really low textures on graphics set to high for a game in 2012. Seriously I think I can get better graphics on my Ipad then the character models here. I have a very high end computer, give me the freaking option to turn those settings up. I WANT MY COMPUTER TO SCREAM IN MERCY!

The game is still in Beta. They needed 6 more months to finish it but the holidays season was comming and they probably just said "let people pay for playing Beta, we will fix it later".

That is all.

Even just a little acknowledgement from the devs about these key issues would sooth my mind.

Once again Im hoping its not a case of the devs thinking they "know it all" and we know nothing. Theres too much mmo death history to write off the constructive criticism of a vocal minority.

You obviously didn't play at the launch of WoW because at the launch of WoW it had a player base of any other MMO, which on average each mmo had about 250,000 people. They did not have server crashes on day one, they did not have server que's. They got past 1 million players 2 years later in 2006 when the game finally hit its hype. Learn your stuff before you start talking. So for SWTOR has a game that has just launched for 7 days and has over a million subscriptions...........take your invalid arguement somewhere else.

lol clearly you didn't play wows release. Not only were there server crashes every 5 seconds, they literally rolled back the servers 4-5 times on some servers in the first 2 weeks. Which means you bust your *** to hit level X and suddenly you wake up the next morning and 8hours of work was just wiped out.

There were empty zones (SILITHUS ANYONE?) There were only 2 working 50 instances, and molten core was completly empty for the first month-2months, with only trash mobs.

There was no pvp system whatsoever, zero battlegrounds untill 5-6 months after release almost.

The game had nothing to do at 50 except rerun the same 2 instances, you dont know what your *********** talking about bra.

Its invalid to compare a new game with an old one. We dont compare a new car with a 20 year old car. The comparison must be made with current mmo's.

In general I agree with the OP. Storyline and voiceovers are worth the initial $60. Beyond that, don't know if its worth subbing. PvP leaves much to be desired, mainly due to lack of world pvp, lack of proper level brackets, and ability delay. And only brackets are easily fixed, the other two are fundamental flaws.

Fanboys compare it with old wow because they want SWTOR to look superior. They know if they compared it with current wow SWTOR falls flat on it's face.

I agree.

I prefer TOR at the moment and i didnt really like Cataclysm (or wotlk, but i loved tbc), but i think WoW is a better game.

As far as grinding levels is concerned, I am enjoying the grind. The story line is fun, (trooper), most of my concerns are for the games longevity.

I fear people will get bored (short attention spans being the norm for todays mmo gamer, and who can blame them?). I hope they dont leave and give it time to flourish.

I cancelled my account one week after it launched ... because i'm one of the few 1000 who can't even download the launcher because of corrupted files received. I'm glad people are concerned about getting to level 50 and being bored already .. makes my decision non regretable LOL

OMG, I am so sick and tired of killing droids! Or cutivating their electronic brains, or corrupting their programming... Then i get a quest today to kill ten guys at three different locations and 6 more at another! I am bored out of my mind but I might go check out that jawa balloon now that you mention it.... Oh, and I already cancelled, not paying 15 bucks a month for what has mostly been a single player game. The people who say wait, they will fix all the bugs over time... drop me a line when they do, I hate the fact that I paid 60 bucks for one month of SWTOR.

I agree with the OP as it does feel like a single player game with multiplayer functionality. The game right now reminds me of Guild Wars. You only really see a lot of people in cities. And there is a reason for this, and that is because this game is instanced. you can have 5000 people connected to the server but only see 150 give or take at a time... why? because the channel only supports that many (at least from what I have seen leveling up)

A lot of MMOs suffer from this because it is not a world server... that is one of my biggest gripes of the game right now. Can they fix this? I doubt it... =(

I'm fine with bugs in a game, but bugs that has been from the start of beta.. That's pretty sad if true. :(

I just hope this isn't another case of "Give them updates till we're on the profit side" BioWare doesn't sound like that, I'm getting the growing feeling of forced pressure from the two companies who have their money on the stake here. They wanted this stuff out before other big names, so as many people as possible would play it for few months so they'd get their money back.

But if you are forced on launching unfinished game, of course the devs will get all the hate for it, I've yet to see a single thread about LucasArts or Electronic Arts being the ones to blame. But they are the ones who paid for most of this game, so who'd you think wants the money back most.

Coming from WoW after 6 years to this game was certainly a joy...I love SWTOR, the graphics, the voice acting, and the pvp. Sure, there are a few bugs, but I can certainly deal with them. Ive since cancelled my wow account and in no way do I miss the cartoon dated game at all.

Thanks BW for such a great experience thus far :)

I gotta be honest, as much as I enjoy this game, you have a point. Quests variety is pretty limited. I still have more fun with this game then I did with WoW though.

I'm actually happy to know I'm not the only one that thinks this way. And like you said everyone always just says that it just came out and you should give it time. Time will fix everything... Well the reply I'm just making is after the release of patch 1.2 and let me tell you, this just made it an even more of a "single player" game.

I've been playing the game since day one and I'm really disappointed in the new patch. I was looking forward to something (a patch) that will bring back the spark about this game like I had at launch. Even though they implemented or fixed most said in this thread I still feel like theres something missing. One big problem in this game in my opinion is how the instances (Flashpoints and Operations) are almost all located at the same place, the Fleet. There is something missing, the planets need to have an importance in the end game. I don't know for you guys but for me, I love a game that has an "Open World" like in pretty much every other MMORPG. I know this is Starwars and they follow the story but there is no reason to have the planets (open areas) to be that empty and not important. Seems like every one is just stacked up in the Fleet waiting for their Warzone to pop or for there friends to come on to do Flashpoints and Operations since getting a group for PvE seems to be impossible at times. Events need to be implemented in this game (this would fix alot).

I waited until their first big patch to see how Bioware and EA would fix the problems but its just not doing it for me. I still have faith that they will get everything right one day but nothing seems to be bringing back the "spark" I had for this game. This is why I had to cancel my subscription and I'm now waiting for Tera Online to come out on May 1st. Great post by the way. I at 100% share your opinion.

I feel like reviving this thread because it's a good comparison from Dec 26th 2011 to now.

What has changed?

1) It still feels like single player with multiplayer - with less people now

2 PVP is still crap (Rated WZ's, where art thou?)

3) It's still buggy - Explosive conflict is full of mechanic breaking glitches that forces a reset

4) Features that should have been in release - LFG/Realm PVP/Raid LFG tool

Bioware, you need to seriously pick things up while you still can - or another warhammer will be on your plate.
