"The phrase 'Doom clone' was initially popular to describe the style of gameplay in Doom-like games, but after 1996 was gradually replaced by 'first-person shooter'. By 1998 the phrase 'first-person shooter' had firmly superseded 'Doom clone'." If EQ was the equivalent of Wolfenstein 3D and WoW was the equivalent of Doom, how long do you think before the MMORPG genre will become popular enough that players stop calling these games, "WoW clones"? inb4 You say it will never stop. Don't be silly. It WILL stop happening, it's just a matter of when. Picture is relevant. http://imgur.com/4HsoT

Design decisions and why the game engine hurts TOR
WarTornPanda replied to Voidskull's topic in General Discussion
This post pretty much nails it. I mean... There are a few other things here and there, but absolutely every single core issue is here. Good job, OP. Hopefully Bioware reads this, suicides this game, and starts over from scratch. Maybe they would be smart enough to hire you. I was excited for this game. I played it and I hated it. I really don't see this game recovering so I want it to bomb so hard that no developer EVER considers creating something like this again. -
Meh... Fixing and adding new content to a live game would be a lot more costly and difficult compared to developing something without worrying about players, balance, servers, etc... Then there is this... dated July 24, 2010. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703467304575383443343071562.html?mod=googlenews_wsj Your link includes this particular line... "According to Activision, Blizzard has spent over $200 million on World of Warcraft since its launch. The amount accounts to every staff personnel--from customer service representatives to the programmers. Kotaku reports that the company's customer service department is the largest among the staff, which shouldn't be a surprise considering there's over 10 million players worldwide." I stand by my original statement.

Can't tell if serious...

Good thing they launched a good MMORPG for its time. There is room for growth when your game is at least equal to everything else on the market. I disagree. If Bioware had ignored the voice acting, I'm 99% sure ten years of development wouldn't exceed 200 million dollars.

Electronic Gaming Monthly gives SWTOR 9/10

Oh jeez. Bioware and these reviewers are going to look like buffoons when the next earnings call comes around and the subscriptions are below 1 million. It's only going to get worse. -

He might be wrong, but you are also pulling numbers out of your pocket. -

A couple others have actually grown in population. Eve is one that I know of off the top of my head. Still not F2P though. -

Apparently, you need to do some reading. I said they are doomed in the sense there are no other choices besides these two options. You either release a fully polished game with ALL the features and functions of a modern MMORPG or release it as a F2P game. Where did I imply that F2P was bad? By the way... I'm avid League of Legends player. I know how successful F2P is. -

They are doomed to either go F2P or be released with *ALL* the desirable functions and features of modern MMORPGs. Mediocrity is no longer accepted in the MMORPG genre. -
I quit WoW to play SWTOR and don't regret it!

More people hit 50 and sit in the fleet. Pretty much end of discussion. -_-

LoL. This guy... Biodrones will be biodrones.

Rift was not this linear. I seriously doubt that you even played it. Rift events, PvP, multiple zones for level brackets... Keep lying to yourself.

Never have I tried so hard to like a game
WarTornPanda replied to Wythias's topic in General Discussion
If you think WoW was easy then you never raided seriously. I'm sorry, but that's 100% true. There were easy times and extremely difficult times, but overall, that game required you to be good to raid successfully. You and your guild were probably two tiers behind the raid content and overgeared. The fact that you call it "bottom of the barrel" is pretty hilarious. Go ahead and justify your opinion now please. No, I don't play the game anymore. Yes, I'm smart enough to realize that playing a game for five years probably means that I enjoyed it and that it was good. -
Unsubstantiated WoW hatred is probably the best way to have your opinion immediately dismissed.

Some servers are Republic heavy(according to devs)?
WarTornPanda replied to Crowleyz's topic in General Discussion
Rabble rabble. I like how you resorted to personal insults and then told him to grow up. There still isn't a single server were the republic vastly outnumbers the empire. -
So i dont pay 8.99 to stand on the fleet all day? is there...
WarTornPanda replied to Kaladorei's topic in General Discussion
Here we go again... Apparently this game is competing with the 2004 launch of another MMORPG. Regardless, WoW is irrelevant and you fanboys bring it up more than the doomsayers in some stupid fallacy to distract from the main point. There isn't enough end-game content in any form to keep players entertained. This isn't about being hardcore. This isn't about WoW. The game is lacking end-game content. Period. -
EA Stock Surges After SWTOR Subscriber Numbers Reveal

I don't love the game. I cancelled my subscription and my time is running out. I'm just here to spread the word of unsatisfied customer.
