Words that gamers get wrong

Endgame

What gamers think it means: The game activities available when one reaches the highest level.

What it actually means: The final stages of a game, in which few moves remain, and the game is drawing to a conclusion. If the activities are repeatable ad infinitum, and do no in any way indicate that one is close to finishing the game, it is not in any way "endgame" content.

Stat/statistic

What gamers think it means: Gamers believe this means "number".

What it actually means: A statistic is a piece of data based on, or derived from, a range of numbers. A single numeric value, such as your character's strength, is not a statistic.

Hmm.

Well, by that matter, then gamer's get pot, pug, raid, twink, level, flag, bug, patch, themepark, sandbox, bank, inventory and que wrong as well.

Some words have different and/or multiple definitions...just in case you were misinformed. Any common dictionary stands in evidence.

Your welcome. :)

Hmm.

Your welcome. :)

Your

What gamers think it means: "You're", short for "you are". Example: "You are welcome!"

What it actually means: Your is a possesive determiner, designating ownership of something. Example: "Your password is too weak."

People who have issues distinguishing between "there", "they're" and "their" or mix up "its" and "it's" might look a bit silly to some ;)

Cheers

As an aside, I happen to interact with teens on a daily basis, The word of the week: fidnuh.

Usage: I'm fidnuh to smack him down.

True story.

...is "agreein" really acceptable? If so I just punted myself in the tomatoes....

If I accept "agreein''" then I must also accept "ain't" as both would be dialect pieces.

But I'm just bored.

trying to force archaic grammar rules is pointless language evolves over time slang becomes real words and real words no one uses die out or change meanings. YOU CAN NOT STOP THE EVOLUTION soon the semi colane shall perish in the fires of obscurity and LOL shall be a REAL WORD. MWHA HA HA HA HA soon English shall be filled with text slang and the word love SHALL BE A HEART!!! mwha ha ha ha ha

also what if anything does people misusing words have to do with TOR?

I keep reading over that example, but I just can't decipher what anyone saying such a thing would actually think that they're trying to say. Is it supposed to be an abbreviation of something? Is it supposed to be 7 words all mashed and jumbled and slurred together? Is it derived from Cockney English slang or something like that?

Not gamers. It's native English speakers in general. Those are only tip of the iceberg. There are far worse examples of this than those btw. As native Finnish speaker I get very annoyed when someone does one of these basic mistakes.

Don't forget the ubiquitous "rouge" when referring to a rogue.

I've seen marauder butchered pretty badly. Marader, maruder, maraduar, and marudur and just some examples I've seen.

Coincedently, people that misspell words badly tend to gravitate towards both these classes.

"Marhurrdurrdurr" or something like that is probably the worst I've seen on these forums.

to OP. things that are not grammatical mistakes and/or typos - are slang

I don't think "could of" is slang.

For "could have". Mostly in spoken-terms because it looks very, very wrong when written. Actually, it's a misspelling of could've, now that I think about it, so not slang. Ignore the above..

I know why people write it "could of" but it still doesn't make it acceptable.
