PVP Harassment

Feel welcome to whisper anyone in <Shots Fired> (Imp PvP guild on Ebon Hawk) and we can organize a group to escort you and your son throughout the PvP section. You can use a people search to find any of us.

This kind of behavior is despicable.

There are also some "tricks" out there that can flip on your PVP flag.

Everyone knows that healing someone flagged will flag you as well, but remember you might accidentally fire on someone as you mouse click them if they are flagged.

Also a favorite of PVP griefers (and I suspect what may have happened to you more than once is this) is a PVPer going to a mission area stealthed and waiting in the middle of mobs friendly to them for people coming to do missions there. All you have to do is hit them with one area attack while they are stealthed and boom you are flagged. They also may unstealth during the middle of your combat in hopes of making you accidentally target them. This seems to be a favorite tactic in heroic areas where you are already dealing with lots of golds and silvers (limiting your reaction time to deal with PVPers).

Bad players playing stealth classes can often be the problem but they can also be your solution. Play a stealth class and when someone does this crap stealth out.

Also, if you're being harassed by more than one person AND they are ALL from the same guild please report them and the guild name (as they are likely encouraging it).

Hit me up on Bast'rus on Imperial side if anyone finds the names of these people. Guild names would be helpful too, so we can hunt em down. I love world pvp, but stuff like that doesn't fly with me.

Count me in as well, Can PM any of the names in my sig or go message Bibifhet in game and I'm sure multiple people in <The Sanctuary> can help...technically it is 'allowed' in game, but that's just some screwed up stuff, I guarantee many people on this server will show these guys they need to mess with people their own size so to speak when they try World PvP

Maybe don't play on PvP servers? If you're on PvE - there are no quests that require you to go in PvP areas.

Not exactly true. HK-51 component takes you into the Outlaw's Den, and that's just one example. It doesn't exactly state where he was questing on Tatooine, though. Does your son buff players as they run by? If someone was flagged and he buffed them, it would flag him as well. Alternatively, if this is a problem at the time you're playing, you could always log on during off-hours. Nothing states that you have to play when these players are bullying him. Log off, log on later, problem could be solved.

It's hard to formulate an opinion on this other than what those players did because we don't know what quest, what server exactly, and what area on Tatooine your son was in. It's easy to understand what those players did is wrong and harassing him is definitely unacceptable.

Unfortunately, it is also your responsibility as a parent to monitor what is going on while your son is playing the game. Playing an MMO isn't like playing a single-player game. There are other players that will take advantage of a kid playing the game like your scenario. If I saw your kid flagged, I would have killed him too. Now I would have left and continued what I was doing instead of camping his area, but he is playing a game with other adults.

It's great to see other players willing to help you by killing these guys. However, doing that would just incite world PVP and probably would defeat your purpose.

I play on a PVP server myself. I actually had a similar issue minus your ransom scenario. My server is imperial heavy, and I happen to be leveling a Republic player at the time on Tatooine in the Dune Sea. Three lv 55s were running around with a low lvl in their guild doing quests. They ran into me on the Czerka relay towers and kept spawn camping my corpse anytime I would try to leave Thorazan outpost near it. I just logged off and played another toon that day. Obviously, this scenario just affects me because I can't compare your son's experience with the lack of information, but you can run into road blocks while leveling if it really is your goal to say complete every quest on said planet before leaving.

This is just my opinion. I just decided to add to this discussion because of what I thought on the matter. I'm sure quite a few members of the community won't agree with what I think, but all I am saying is that until we have all the information on what he was doing, we can only formulate an opinion on what happened from the PVPers harassing him, not what he was doing. We can't tell if player X is 10 and player Y is 35. Morality isn't always apparent in an MMO, and usually age will affect one's morality. (Not an extreme example like stealing, but more along the lines of you are more likely to fight an adult (physically or verbally) compared to a kid). Especially when the worst that will happen is a suspension or a ban from the MMO.

At any rate, I hope this adds to the discussion. Good luck and I hope this doesn't happen again to anyone. ;)

While it angers me that people on the server are griefing, even if it's in Outlaws Den which is a pvp area, I also would like to calm people down a little bit. While what these idiots did isn't called for and deserves a serious beatdown... They have no way of knowing that the person they are ganking is a young autistic child or a 40 year old dude living in his mothers basement (not comparing the two just making a very general comment on anonymity).

Like has been said, if we know the offenders and or guilds involved, we can work with their guild leaders to mitigate this without requiring any involvement from customer service who probably won't offer you a satisfactory answer anyway.

that's not the point though, the fact that that the op's son has autism only adds to this, and either way going on a pve server and using a flag exploit to stalk anyone to extort credits is wrong

Ebon Hawk is a RP-PvE server. the fact is Outlaw's Den is a PvP area regardless. No exploit was used or being abused.

And maybe the point is the OP shouldn't let her son play a game that involves such complex social interactions if she knows issues may arise.

Yep, on a non PvP server, whether or not you are flagged is a result of your own inaction.

It is unfortunate it happened and the party demanding ransom is wrong. But for starters, you should look into how to avoid the various attempts people do in attempting to force your flag on. With restrictions making it easier on players with AOE attacks, you should make sure he is working diligently to avoid getting flagged rather than claiming he has no defense against them from reflagging

Secondly, since I know autism makes this more than a challenge in doing so for that first case, it would be better to go ahead and log off for the time being. It's just a game, should the frustration arise, it's better for him to learn to walk away from situations like this, especially from your encouragement. Life lesson learned from a video game, here you go.

Lastly, you could try asking for help in General chat. Considering how many people would gladly come to his aid, I'm sure posting in the General chat on planet or even traveling back to the Fleet and asking before returning, specifically requesting for people to come put those gankers into the dirt would definitely get some bites given your story.

AS PER YOUR ORIGINAL LETTER ONLY:-

I play on the Prog an rp server and tatts is NOT an unsafe planet for you but it does have one region only which is a pvp for all area, but its very small and the quest therein is not a necessary complete at all.

I suggest you would swap to an rp server, stay blue through a rest area if reset needed and join a guild too if you are still concerned but on my rp server this situation will only occur if you or your companion instigate a fight. If you use an aoe ability and there is a foe in stealth within that radius you will start a battle and therefore turn green.

I have 9 toons, 7 of which are 55 and this is seriously not a problem i have ever encountered. It was complete commonplace in world of warcraft but i was on an rp/pvp realm in those days.

I hope you transfer to a suitable server and wish you enjoy the game more in the future.

Don't label a group of players by the actions of scum.

Yes, but the players who tolerate the actions of scum get a label sticked on.

As long as "the players" tolerate this kind of behaviour it won't go away. It's like shooting around with a gun but never getting sentenced for that.

Pamela - if you or your son ever find yourselves on Prophecy of the Five, there are a lot of guilds / players that will actively answer a call for help. One benefit to PvP servers is that your faction, whether it be Republic or Imperial, can and will do something about those harassing you. I've routinely answered calls for help on the Republic side.

I hope this issue was resolved previously, and that your son got his quest done.

Ebon Hawk should be able to muster up the support themselves, as well. Have to be some people who PvP there who would want a fight. Just go to fleet and let them know.

SWTOR A game for an autistic child?.....

This is not the game you are looking for.

There are many evil wicked mean and nasty types just looking to pass out beatdowns to lower lvl/lesser players.

As a person who understands "Special needs children" I would not place an autistic child into the realm of SWTOR.

IMO LOTROL would be better suited for him there.

learn to unflag yourself and your son, and how to avoid to be flagged again..

My guess is some douchy guilds force flag him by having an assassin or operative in stealth stand near enemies that he has to kill; if either he or his companion uses an AoE attack it will hit the stealth assassin and automatically flag him. They did this many times during the illum event. I remember an area on tatooine next to a cave-which is the entrance for a class mission that people grief lowbies by either doing the above trick, or by healing the imperials that block the path, which leads lowbies to a painful choice of fighting an undying AI, attacking a 55 or running away and not getting the class mission.
