Arzoo
Play another class. Troopers have awful defensive cooldowns. Sentinel is what you were looking for. Your only real hope as a trooper is to go with the Ironfist spec. It takes the tank tree survivability talents but also acquires Gut from the Tactics Tree. Not particularly amazing damage, but it lets you run with ion cell for improved damage reduction while doing at least a little damage. In all honesty I would personally suggest a normal Assault build. Best defense is good offense, etc. etc. Edited May 11, 2012 by Arzoo
_gideon
You want max dps and max survivability. That sounds like a good spec to me. Are you sure you don't want max healing as well just to cover your bases? I'd want max dps, max survivability and max healing. Then all the other players could log off. As long as you only want the first two (max dps and max survivability) then it is easily attainable... as long as you're a sentinel.

Spatology
try full sheild spec with dps gear on....with energy blast off the gcd you can put out some crazy burst.... i only have problems finishing healers sometimes and to be honest its not a problem because im only really trying to pressure them into not healing their buddies. Toss out 6-7k in about 4 seconds and that healer will run scared.
Chazcon
I highly doubt the Iron Fist can approach even remotely the damage AS can put out, but it is still a great spec. Traiting heavy up the AS line will leave you too vulnerable. You might burst DPS higher occasionally but you won't live long enough so it doesn't matter. AS is sort of a glass cannon, and it doesn't do THAT much more DPS. Iron Fist ftw, or play another class.

You must not have that many good AS Vanguards on your server. Most shield spec Vanguards and their BH equivalents don't last long against me. exphryl
Traiting heavy up the AS line will leave you mildly more vulnerable. You will burst DPS higher always but you won't live as long, which doesn't matter to much considering how shielding works in PvP. AS is a glass howitzer, and it is the most DPS you can manage. I totally just took the time to fix your statement. Edited May 12, 2012 by exphryl

exphryl
To Flip: lol get over yourself to Ex: write your own ****, don't steal from others and freaking learn how to spell Can't say I noticed any misspelled words in my post. I do heavily appreciate the suggestion on an educational baseline for me though. It's always good to see somebody interested in the higher learning of others. So what you meant to say was, I should proofread my work for grammatical errors, and not the aforementioned spelling. The point still stands though. IF damage is even less than a full shield spec Vanguard. There is 0 build that provides both what the OP is looking for. It is either one or the other for us. Rigsta
Can anyone give me a link to torhead with the iron fist build on it? It's at the top of the forum. With the words "sticky" and "Iron Fist". The answer to your question has been there all along, if you just bothered to look.

TheronFett
Just create a 31/31/31 spec Trooper. According to the PvP boards, that's what we all are anyway.

exphryl
how about this. http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#801rMMrzZ0cZbIbbdGG.1 Ionic Accelerator, which is the only built in passive Ammo management you have in Assault doesn't work in Ion cell. Must be using plasma cell. You'll also be wasting ammo to put up Incendiary Round just to make use of the other buffs you get when attacking a burning target. Spatology
Use combat tech set with a full shield spec. Take the straight damadge reduction and stock strike buffs. You retain mobility and still put out great dps. I top war zones depending on the length of the match.
Philosomanic
IMO, the best you're going to be able to do is 4/8/29 (Assault). This gives up a little burst from Burnout and Assault Plastique, but you get decent defensive boosts. You get -6% incoming damage from all sources, and really low cooldowns on Reactive Shield and Adrenaline Rush. With those cooldowns active, you'll be really hard to kill. We don't get short bursts of extreme defense. In stead, we get consistent, long-duration bursts of moderate defense. With heavy armor, -6% incoming damage passive, and -25% incoming damage from our shield, we are pretty hard to take down.

Diamaht
I want to do lots of damage with ion cell on You can really. A full shield spec Vanguard can usually be top 3 for damage (you're not going to be number 1) and still do their job as a tank. Basically you can have good damage and great survivability or you can have great damage and good survivability. You're not going be great at both, and honestly you shouldn't be.
