Most Powerful Jedi of All Time

Luke is the most powerful Jedi of all time.

Sidious is the most powerful Sith of all time.

Lucas said Luke had all of Anakin's potential, and in the fiction afterwards fulfilled it.

The next tier would be like Yoda, Windu, Jacen and then his sister, then broken Anakin with Obi-wan probably bringing up the rear, with Revan perhaps being close. Malek? Might have ended up near Yoda if he had lived.

As far as duels Windu is up there. Yoda is up there. Debatable whether Sidious purposely lost to Windu. Luke was stupidly good with a saber in future series. Jacen/Caedus was as well, but Luke would have beat them all by a fair margin, not to mention he was also stronger in the force.

In terms of dueling ability, calling a top combatant is basically impossible. We can only rate the best ones from their respective eras. Tulak Hord, Exar Kun, Revan, Darth Malgus, Bane, Mace Windu, Yoda, Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Sidious, Kyle Katarn, Luke Skywalker, and Jacen Solo comprise my list of top-tier lightsaber duelists.

Any one of these characters would stand a chance of killing each other in a duel (lightsabers only, the Force is too much of a wild card, it can be used any number of ways). There is a certain level of skill where, as you approach it, the gains made in technique and skill are so minimal that it's really a matter of experience, and whether one combatant will out-think the other and correctly stay a step ahead of them.

Luke beat one of the strongest sith ever, and one of the best duelists ever (broken Anakin) with a very short training period, and no one to practice dueling with (lighsabers), and without the benefit of training as a child. Now take that, and add years of training (what happens in novels afterwards) and you can see where this all goes.

Luke defeating Anakin/Darth Vader was due in large part to him being Anakin's son. The implication was that Vader could have killed him, but kept holding back until the very end when Luke became enraged and just hammered Vader into the ground.

Until Episode VII does come out, Luke will still be the most powerful.

This doesn't stop him from being the above mentioned things(joke character, near Marry Sue,OP,ect),which makes his title of ''most powerful'' meaningless.

Have you guys even read any of the EU on Luke's story? He defeated the reborn emperor, went toe to toe with Darth Caedus, and defeated what...3-4 Sith "Grand Masters" ?

How is Luke not at least in the running for most powerful jedi ever?

Great point! Luke defeated some of the most powerful Sith masters in galactic history. He also defeated a literal Force Entity: Aboleth.

Jedi exile couldnt sense being stabbed in the back, she didnt resurrect the order herself. Mastering lightsaber forms is common in average jedi during the Prequel Trilogy. Peak Lightsaber combat and force powers were finally met by the Jedi during the clone wars as per lucas.

The Sith Emperor isnt even close to being as powerful as Sidious. Yoda,Windu and Anakin were said by Lucas to be able to challenge Sidious. Revan doesnt stand a chance.

Bastila shan - She's nothing.

Windu could easily take the Jedi exile, Shan and Revan at once, your underestimating how powerful the jedi and sith had become by the time of the prequels.

Revan fought Sith and Jedi regularly as well as Mandalorians who lived for war. Windu came to prominence in an era largely without the presence of a force sensitive/user enemy to battle. How many Sith and Jedi did Windu defeat? Sure he may have been hot **** against mindless battle droids and 1 bounty hunter, and yes he had Sidious on the ropes (albeit by that age Sidious was well out of his prime). My money is on a battle hardened Revan over just about anybody whose last name isn't Skywalker.

Jacen Solo, Tulak Hord, Exar Kun.

Those guys are also top contenders.
