Interesting build. I'm 39 right now and fully in the ST tree and I've not been happy with it. I want to help my buddies with guard and not get melted yet I don't achieve that and my dps is down. The heat management isn't great either. Trying to decide between this and Pyro.

 

Is it worth trying this before 48?

So I'm just gonna go on record and say that I don't think the Carolina Parakeet is a great name for this build. It's kind of a funny idea the first time you hear it, but it just doesn't make sense.

 

The main problem with it is I can't imagine trying to explain to anyone who doesn't read this forum what the hell I'm talking about referring to the Carolina Parakeet build. You're immediately forced to redescribe the build anyway, merely wasting time.

 

Another concern is what happens when BioWare rebalances the talent trees? What if the ST/Pyro hybrid build still works, but with a different point distribution. Now the name makes no sense whatsoever.

 

I think it makes far more sense to name a build after its characteristics. ST/Pyro, while generic, is instantly understood at least. For a little more flare, you could call it the Rocketeer build (for Jet Charge), or the Hadron Supercollider (Prototype Particle Accelerator + Jet Charge (collider)).

 

Just my thoughts.

Can someone link the spec because some of what I'm seeing doesn't make since.

 

It's not that complicated, key talents are:

 

-Jet Charge

-Flame Shield

-Superheated Rail

-Prototype Particle Accelerator

 

A lot of the rest are just preference points.

From various threads gathered damage on Ion Gas Cylinder is moot so I skipped points in that. No Escape speaks for itself imo. Armor being also not as good due to the numerous damage types flying around in PvP is skimped over.

Thanks for this build. It is rocking for me @ level 38 vanguard.. love it.

 

To be fair... I made this whilst playing a Vanguard in beta. It was called the specialist build then since it dipped into both Specialist trees.

 

They don't like that name for a BH though :(

The points in ion is mainly for the snare which I find highly valuable in a PvP setting.

B: This build is about utliity, heat management and decent damage with survivability.

 

Secondly, you are only losing the 10% Shield Talent. You can still wear all that shiny Absorb/Shield armor :)

Because the PT/AP build is light years ahead in heat management it also provides more survivability and utility for pvp.

 

You don't need 'filler' skills like unload that you have to use because you'll run up your heat too fast if you don't use them.

 

Again, this is hypothetical and hasn't been tested that much--but, its likely to be the superior build.

There is a thread about pvp on the PTR (ptr is 1.1 at the moment) and through testing people are reporting that in duels shield is now blocking other damage types.

Damage wise, it's still behind parakeet. Heat wise, you only gain the free rocket punch while parakeet still has superheated rail (and Gyroscopic Jets). More survivability? I don't see that, at least with your build. Only thing I like with this build is the 6 sec Quell + Jet Charge combo. Edited by Trungalung

I disagree. Without the pyrotech suppliment I doubt your damage will be as high. However, I'm totally open to being proved wrong.

Why would you get the ion talents if you'll be using combustable? Or does that talent not require ion to be active to get the snare on rocket punch... because if that's the case I need to respec :o

Parakeet uses Ion as the main cylinder. We put points in CGC because we have to in order to reach Superheated Rail. In the words of original creator Dekai, we didn't "waste" the points. We "invested".
