High resolution textures: can we get a clarification on this?

[edited original post for truth] That is exactly what I am saying. Sorry if you do not like it lol. Keep in mind this only applies to people going from a system like mine to what I have now. The difference is insane.

Use the holoterminal trick and post before-and-after pictures.

You must just find your SECRET GRAPHIC SETTINGS look even better! You'll have to upgrade your machine further to access those Ultra-Secret graphic settings.

I'll have to check cutscenes out more on my new system. Either way game looks great and I might even resub (I know is that not insane?)

Have fun all! It's 4:30 why am i having such a hard time finding a group as a healer right now lol

Do the holocron thing. Go to your ship and click on it, notice how the characters armor textures go from being compressed to being crisp. Go on. Do it.

Just logged in to add my support to this thread and to report the posts that are obviously here to troll the thread. *And ignored the accounts*

I am concerned that with the 1.1 update Bioware are effectively obfuscating the issue and hoping it quietly goes away.

I am hoping for an amiable resolution to this issue, but frankly Biowares complete lack of response is quite telling.

My account has been cancelled, as I feel the only way to send a clear message is with ending my financial support.

I have been a long time Bioware customer, I have nearly every game and almost every collectors edition they have offered. I have purchased copies of many of these games for my children and family and feel that I have been swindled by a company that I trusted and who has made poor development decisions with respect to this product (i.e. HeroEngine and releasing six months to a year too early).

If this issue is not even addressed formally by Bioware I will have purchased my final Bioware product and will no longer recommend games made by them. This has been the most disappointing product release I have witnessed in my 25+ years of gaming.

Just wanted to pitch in my evidence to the evidence pile:

I understand that the higher texture quality can cause poorer performance, but that should be our decision to make. The textures are there. Why not let us use them?

Peace,

Are you stupid?

CLEARLY THIS IS JUST LIGHTING LOOK AGAIN!

That is obviously a dual-core system and not a good one at that (no one would know this better than me).

Lol just no. You did see me agreeing with your Witcher 2 post right? I play Witcher 2 at max settings and anyone should know that it takes a great system to play at max I even get 35+ with ubersampling. And your just gonna say I have a dual core? You really think your right I bet too.

And these are on 1920x1080. Because I didn't care for black bars but ofcourse your gonna say some ********.

I'm not a dual core system. I have Dual GTX 580's and a quad core overclocked to 4.3 ghz.

My apologizes for derailing the thread I'll link someone elses picture that compares the highrez to crap textures.

How do i do this trick? I want the game looking better because atm it looks like watery ****...

Walk up to your holoterminal when there is no active quest on it and click on it. For a split second, your character will shift to the true high-res textures.

There will be a change in lighting as well, which may deceive you into believing it's simply a lighting change, but as you can see in my images, there is a distinct change in the crispness of the textures themselves, regardless of lighting.

Peace,

Lets keep this simple lol

The best textures you can get are in the cut scenes and when you preview gear on your companion. It should be showing these textures while in game while "high" is selected. It is a bug.

This is what is SUPPOSED to be "high" settings. It was broken and Bioware has said that. "High" settings have never worked properly on the release client.

On current "live" game, there is no change in gear texture quality between "med" and "high" settings. Once again, Bioware is aware and it is a bug.

Now, the new issue. On the current "PTR" (test server), there is no more "med" setting. They RENAMED "med" settings as "high", and got rid of "med" settings all together. Your only options now are "low" and "high" ("high"="med"). Why, because "high" never worked on official release client so we won't notice any change anyways. So people feel like Bioware, instead of fixing a known bug, have tried to just burying the issue so new players won't even know a better setting existed. Until it's resolved... I hope.

The high rez textures are physically in the game files, they are there. Someone else has already stated how they are compressed in more detail.

So the cut scenes is what the game is actually supposed to look like on "high" when the issue is/if corrected.

Again another post were someone says something completely useless. I play at MaX. Do you get that max settings at 1920x1200. With forced AA now kindly take a look and tell me does this look like max to you?

But that's because you're are running at low settings or at least something is furbar'd with your client or graphics card drivers..

Here's a comparison between mine and yours at the same spot on Hoth (your last pic) this is the same at medium for me so yes I do acknowledge there is still a problem with the SWTOR settings at the moment but not as bad as yours appears.

That is obviously a dual-core system and not a good one at that (no one would know this better than me).

Now post screenshots with this system.

Processor: Intel® Core i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.3GHz

Memory: 8192MB RAM

Card name: ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series

Display Memory: 742 MB

Dedicated Memory: 1010 MB

Shared Memory: 3828 MB

I guarantee you it wont look anything like those screenshots. You or someone else purposely used those screenshots to sow discord by showing how bad the game can really look. You are dishonest and that is not sometihng you should be proud of.

Ok, I'll bite.

For the record, my system is:

i5 2500k @ 4.2gbz

GTX 470 SC

8gb RAM

Windows 7 64-bit

In other words I equal or beat your specs in every regard.

The Imp. Agent armor Chromiie posted looks EXACTLY the same on my rig.

Whether you're using Max settings or Low settings, a lot of the armor looks like the backside of a Bantha all the time - and that's just not right.

On maxed settings, here is what the worst armor I currently own looks like ingame:

http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i42/LiselleMorrow/Old%20Republic/swtor-ingame2.jpg

When it should at LEAST be looking like THIS:

http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i42/LiselleMorrow/Old%20Republic/swtor-cutscene2.jpg

What breaks my heart is that the game can look SO nice in a lot of places - some of the distant scenery looks quite good, for example this view in Dromund Kaas:

http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i42/LiselleMorrow/Old%20Republic/swtor_2011_12_23_19_19_03_466.jpg

But when I then try to take a snapshot of my character posing menacingly in front of it it ruins the entire image because the armor graphics are nowhere near on par with the rest of it.

it seems that the smaller your body size, the least affected you are...however your screenshot is also zoomed out too far for us to notice any flat textures.

actually never mind I think you're right, something definitely looks wrong with the first pic.
