  1. Check the email tied to this account, OP, because you're probably transferring characters. If you log into one of your old characters that are on an Origin server, you might find it to be quite desolate indeed. The transfers happen very quickly, and you can do them (if you are subbed), while you are downloading the client. That way, when you log in, you should see people. Lots, and lots of people. Welcome back. Oh - and the only thing potentially gimp in PvP is the person at the keyboard. Riôt
  2. Lol no, I'm referring to any attempt to control what people say, or how they say it. I would like a free-flight Space sandbox very much, personally. Especially if they modeled it after the X-wing games.../poke Bioware. Not everything in an MMO needs to be *MMO'd.* Riôt
  3. You detest the Space combat that is *on rails,* yet you are attempting to force discussion that is also *on rails?* Riôt
  4. Even if you can't see it, you can still click on it. The same with mailboxes, and every other clickable on the Fleet. It really is too bad that people are inconsiderate, and don't dismount while near clickables, but...you know how that sentence finishes. Riôt
  5. It's no surpise that you can't see why they can't do this in an MMO, when you are using a single player game with 20 hours of content as a comparison. It's not even remotely close to being the same thing. Oh, and you should play more than one class story. Even better, play one from each side. That way, you can see that the class stories do indeed affect various things in the game world. Riôt
  6. Do you have any idea how long people were asking for the Barbershop (in game character custominzation changes) in WoW before it was finally implemented? Take a seat for a bit, hoss, and be patient. It will get here soon enough. Riôt
  7. Thank you - I have never once seen these things. Not on a player, and not on the GTN. I will be looking for them now, though. These came with the schematic influx of 1.2? I suppose I should have specified pants that are as easily obtainable as the Republic variants. Riôt
  8. Adding an armor-dye system would not be difficult. Getting your modifications to show up on cutscenes, however, might be. Oh - and you can have your color-dye system 6 months after I get Light Armor PANTS on the Empire side. Riôt
  9. I would think that adding a Legacy tab to the mailbox would not be a terribly difficult thing to do, and would be a great quality of life change. Riôt
  10. Every generation, OP, has been a bit more spoiled than the one that came before it. This is true in real life, as well as in gaming of all types. What you are seeing is a rapid escalation of this process because of the incredible advances in tech in the last 20 years, along with other changes in various parts of life. I feel bad for today's youth ( as in, younger than 20 years old), to be honest. They have grown up with some great things, but they have also grown up with some not-so-great things. Let's take a look at some of them. About 10 years ago or so, they started handing out trophies to every kid at the end of T-ball...just for showing up. This does not happen everywhere, but it is very, very prevalent. This also happens in other activities that children engage in. This is where reward and entitlement for nothing begin, if no one fixes it. Also about 10 years ago, public school teachers (in my state, but probably all states) have started to have to hand out grades. Bad grades somehow now = bad teacher, instead of lazy student. Bad grades = lower test scores. Lower test scores = less funding for the school. These teachers are in a bad place, a place they should not be...and if you don't think this is happening, you need to wake up. What I am getting at, is that these young people are getting robbed. They are getting robbed of what it feels like to actually *earn* something, and to have to actually *earn* things. They are getting robbed of the true feeling of accomplishing something, because for various reasons, it has been handed to them. Unless they play(ed) competitive sports, took part in competitive debate or science club, etc., it is unlikely that they have ever had to actually earn anything in their lives thus far. Good parents do their best to try to teach this value, but it just isn't really being reinforced anywhere else. It is a shift in attitude and mentality brought on by factors that are mostly out of their control. Some of today's youth are able to overcome this, but most just don't see any reason to. I have managed too many of them in my career to be wrong, though I wish I was. I really wish I was. This is a shift in society that is being reflected in our online communities. And yes...if they did not invest a significant amount of time into a game like EQ or FF, they are spoiled in comparison. Riôt
  11. I'm sorry, it's not new dps that have these problems. It's the ones that should know better, that have these problems. It's these same people, who are.not. going to suddenly start tanking en masse just because it's now EZmode. They aren't, because they have been that guy, they *are* that guy, and they don't want to have to deal with the rest of *those guys* from the tanking side of the table. This has been proven over years, with very large sample sizes. There is fact, and there is your (and Valkirus') opinion. Can I imagine?: The stupid Bounty Hunter - yes, and I deal with them. The stupid Sorcerer - yes, and I deal with them. The stupid Assassin - yes, and I deal with them. The stupid Rage Juggernaut - yes, and I deal with them. The bad healer - yes, and I teach them. I don't have to imagine anything. I have dealt with every manner of bad dps that exist in this game, as well as in previous games. The situation is the same, my friend, it's just the scenery that changes. This isn't even the real problem, though - what they should be doing, is taking a page out of the Dragon Soul 5-man book. Flashpoints of decent difficulty, that are short, instead of over an hour long. This, would be a more effective means of adding tanks to the queue. Riôt
  12. I appreciate your enthusiam, especially since I too, would like a free-flight space model, but unfortunately, you are incorrect. 1) Space was done very well in JTL, but only a small part of the population used it with any kind of frequency. This is why we didn't get a whole lot of new space content. Like another poster said, it split dev time and resources in a way that can be detrimental for the business. 2) Developing new content for Space is a whole different can of worms...even if there is no PvP. Tuning the AI alone, is a nightmare. JTL went with the more enemies/more firepower approach to make you fly better, but we all wanted more intelligent AI. Adding in PvP makes it even worse. On top of this, you also have to realize that this game, in terms of releasing new content is probably going to follow this priority system; PvE>PvP>Other Content>Space. 3) It is possible that adding a solid, free-flight Space component to this game could bring in more subscribers that don't normally play MMO's - virtual pilots, in other words. Sure, it could. In order to do this on any kind of scale, Space would have to be good enough for these folks to justify $15/month, when they currrently pay nothing. See point number 2 again, for why this is unlikely, and point number 1 for current subscriber usage of Space content. On a more positive note - Bioware knew that they could not release this game without a Space component. SWG proved that a Star Wars MMO needs a Space component. So, they contracted some company to build what we have now, so they could have Space at launch. I do believe we are going to get (opt-in) free-flight Space, and it will probably come with the first expansion. Just know that content updates for Space are going to be low on the priority list. In terms of content updates per year, PvE will probably get 4-5, PvP will probably get 3-4, and Space will probably get 1, maybe 2. Things like Space, Swoop Racing, Pazaak, and other such mini-games will definitely set this game apart from its competitors, and Bioware should definitely be working on all of them. Just know, that these things will never be a priority in terms of continued development, nor will any (or all of them together) bring in nearly as many subs as you are projecting. With good, solid additions to this game that set it apart, I think 2-3 million is a reasonable target goal, but I seriously doubt it would go much higher. Riôt
  13. This would be true, if the premise were also true, but since the premise has been proven to be untrue, then this is untrue. Riôt
  14. This is a fallacy. The last time I logged into WoW, Call to Arms (you know, the tank bribe) was on...Tank. As it had been pretty much all day, every day, since the CTA inception. This is after they made tanking ezmode. This is after they put in the bribes. This is after they put in the DS 5-mans, which are short and easy, and dropped good gear. EZmode tanking does not lead to more tanks in the queue because it does not address the root problem - tanking is a thankless job, healing is a thankless responsibility, and dps is a faultless blamefest. This change should not go live - ever. If more threat is needed later, it can be added via a scalable system, as others have mentioned. That said, all tanks appear to be taking a dps nerf, so perhaps this band-aid is temporarily needed. Temporarily. I would rather they just realize that tank damage doesn't need to be nerfed... By the way...you don't miss Enrage timers because your dps had to wait 5 seconds. You miss Enrage timers because your dps haven't learned to maximize the fight yet. End of story. Riôt
  15. Dynamic events were much-lauded in Rift, too. Early on, they were great. The Invasions, even better. Have you been there lately? I had this huge post planned, but I decided to trim it down to a few things that are fact: Human beings are not very good at exponential thinking. This is why Rift looked so inventive and awesome early on, and why GW2 does now. Indeed, the story and combat animations in this game would fall into the same category, for some. Because human beings are not good at exponential thinking, people like Dezzi, and Fox (the OP), can't seem to see past the 2 month mark. They both probably fell for this same gig with Rift, ToR, and soon, GW2. That's not intended as a slam on you guys, it just means you are normal human beings. Human beings like to establish routines. As a whole, we like having things run smoothly, without interruption, and in the time frame we want them to run in. Anyone see where this is going yet?... Human beings do not like change. As a whole, we don't like it when things become different. Things like, not being able to vendor items because no one is fighting invasions, or other Random Events any more. Things like, no matter how they purportedly scale, my choice is now to go somewhere else, or deal with this thing that is now in my way. Human beings like to set and achieve goals that take *just the right amount* of time and effort to accomplish. MMO's that are developed with a subscription-based model, know these things are fact. They are not opinion, they are documented psychological fact. Keep cheering for GW2 as this revolutionary *next coming.* It is neither revolutionary, nor will it be evolutionary. The best thing GW2 has going for it is being F2P - so why not play it, if you can stomach the box price. Oh, this thread was about an article - my bad. In that case, I'll just say that the article's writing style is strikingly similar to someone who has many posts in this thread. That is all of the commentary that I have for it. Oh - and hello, Wutru. You did get in before I called anyone a sheep. Riôt
  16. I mentioned this in another thread, but if these changes are in preparation for the new abilities coming with Makeb, I'd prefer they wait until then to make them. That's the only sense I can make out of this. Riôt
  17. I wouldn't buy very much from the GTN, personally. I only buy stuff if I am seriously behind (like 8 levels or more), and haven't gotten a drop. Crafting for greens is not expensive, if you have the proper gathering professions to go with it, and gather while in the field. Crafting for blues and higher, can be very expensive. It's hard to answer your question fully, because every server economy is different. Yours may be cheap, or it may be expensive. Starting with Nar Shadaa, make sure you check the Heavy/Medium/Light armor vendors, and the Weapon/Specialty vendors. They have moddable gear that is good, but kind of pricey. You can use the planetary Commendations to keep up to date with mods and enhancements, you just might have to buy some armorings from time to time. If this is your first character - I would recommend taking Slicing, Scavenging, and Bioanalysis. Gather everything you can while questing, and sell what you gather on the GTN. Once you are 50, you can make credits much quicker, so you can take a look at crafting then. If I were going to start a character on a fresh server, this is how I would do it. Riôt
  18. I don't know, I don't think Palpatine would give Goku umpteen episodes to finish building his Spirit Bomb. Riôt
  19. So, the OP can't process where Grass and Snow are located in reference to his positioning and orientation at any given point during the WZ...one that is a fairly small rectangle, to boot. With that lack of spatial awareness, in an environment that you have been exposed to many times, please tell me that you are responsible enough to not ever drive a car. Visually-based directions are always, always better than contextually based directions. They are processed both faster, and more accurately. Inc 3 at Snow Oh yeah, Snow is over there. Riôt
  20. You mean, once all of the flawless armchair-devs in this forum got control of it? It would die. Quickly. Riôt
  21. Man, she'd better milk that curb appeal as much as she can, because she is a terrible interviewer. Yes James...I'm sure it was great to talk to her. Riôt
  22. Apparently, you weren't listening during the show where they talked about that - most of those people were contract employees who were let go when their contracts expired. This was known to be coming, and is standard fare for most games, not just MMO's. Not a lot to see, here. The surprise was Stephen Reid being included. I suppose they had some good reason for letting him go...at least, I hope they did. Riôt
  23. I would actually concur with 600k-700k subs currently, at the most. Riôt
  24. There is so much truth here, it hurts. Riôt
