  1. The idea of separate servers is outdated, it always ends up with some empty and others too full. Instead everyone should be in instances on the same "super server", kinda like STO. Some say they don't like instancing but face it, it's here to stay and the benefits outweigh the drawback. Can just use schemes to do a best effort in getting to see the same people often and could separate EU from NA and AU etc for response time and such. Always populated sever is worth the cost of a few instances.
  2. IMO BW has a chance to make some money on this, I support it, either with RL currency or better yet a choice between MT or IG credits (expensive, like a million or four). People REALLY want server transfers tough so a cheap/free first one from dead servers would be cool.
  3. I'm starting to get sick of the current control scheme in mmos. I want a Mass Effect like thing with over the shoulder and aim, force abilities like biotic aiming.
  4. The last week or so I've gotten a continuous stream of error 9000 disconnects, its not my Internet connection, my net is exactly the same as before this mess started. Yes I have restarted my Internet, yes I have restarted the client, yes I have checked my router, DON't even start with that rubbish. I have never had this problem before now. It wouldn't be so horrendous if I could pick up where I left of when reconnecting, but no, I have to DIE in flashpoints, I have to get booted from a space mission. Really? Do I really have to DIE just because a disconnect when I reconnect within 5 seconds? If this doesn't get sorted soon then it's game over.
  5. This is a very interesting question. Themeparks/Story Driven offer direction but are linear (often), Sandbox offer variety but less direction and is player driven, I don't think only one is optimal, I think a mix of the best of both worlds is the future. Themepark/Story for starting out, getting to know the game and slowly cross over into more sandbox when you get to end-game, with some story driven content in addition as well like high end raids or whatever. Sandbox really would be best at the "end game" since players generate their own content instead of repeating stuff which will become boring.
  6. Yeah this bug is just unacceptable, this is one of those thousand paper cuts someone else made a thread about
  7. lol man you crack me up, while TOR certainly has some flaws, they are far and few between but BW's gotta keep their act up. Diablo 3 is a single player boring snooze fest of a clicker game, give me a break, it was kool in the 90's, not so much anymore. World of Panda's is just laughable. At the end of the day TOR is the best on the market right now, and nothing, not even GW2/JesusOnline will change that anytime soon as far as I can see.
  8. Nah, I have had several SSD's over 2+ years now OCZ, Corsair and Intel and they work good, one (out of 5) from OCZ actually did fail but who cares you get a new one from the warranty, assuming you live in a country with reasonable consumer protection. The failure rates are: Intel 0,59% Corsair 2,17% Crucial 2,25% Kingston 2,39% OCZ 2,93% So while the best is a few percent better than the worst, that's not very significant for most people considering the low rate to start with. I've done extensive research on these things and just keep a backup on important data and you're golden. For encrypted and non-compressible data I use Corsair Performance Pro model, in my laptop and the ones I've installed for others I use Intel (320 security model), for fastest "compressible" read/write I use OCZ like for games temp stuff and such. OCZ got very reasonable price/size/performance ratio so I'd recommend the latest Vertex 3 for kick *** disk or maybe Agility if you're cheap. Intel if you're paranoid about losing data.
  9. I'd say you need more RAM Or close all other open programs at least and re-enable that page file, it's handy some times
  10. Well I'll be darned, BW actually take crafting seriously and listens to our concerns from the looks of it I did not expect that so well done, IMO TOR needs more sandbox features to get some variety from the somewhat exhaustive linear game play and crafting fits the bill rather nicely.
  11. Hey my sound piece of text got buried on the previous page
  12. This hacking on the Hero Engine is getting ridiculous. First it looked like some good tech, but did lack some optimization, the only thing we can conclude from that blog is that it was lacking security, optimization and documentation, I think BW could fill in most of the blanks. TOR was a special project with it's size a limiting factor on what they could actually use out of the box, heavy modification was done so the engine served as a good starting point, lacking a few features is usually not a problem, making design mistakes at the beginning will always become a big problem. Most if not all have to modify the engines to fit their purpose either way. Making an engine from scratch is a mammoth task, it's why we have few of the really good ones around like iD, Epic and Crytek, making an mmo engine is even more of a mammoth task. If BW want they can still use code form the last releases, they just have to rewrite it to fit into their version, or they could just follow the latest features design and write it into their version, assuming they still have that kind of licensing in place. I might be lucky but it's been very good on my PC, nothing special rig at all, I have very few crashes and get good performance. The high detail texture problem doesn't look to me like being an exclusive engine issue, but rather performance tweak from BW's side. Replacing the engine with something new is ridiculous amount of work and complexity and there are bound to be tons of dependencies. A new engine might not even give anything new and better than the current optimized version anyway since BW have now a defined way of making things like models and logic.
  13. Hehe yeah that one was pretty funny, if I remember correctly the pitch of his voice was the funniest part. That and Vette's something like "uhh after this I'm definitely getting my lekku buffed"
  14. Lol the Intel HD graphics is rather new and can barely be called graphics card. It's meant to be cheap easy integrated better-than-nothing for facebook flash games and that kind of crap. Event he best nVidia/AMD laptop graphics card is rather mediocre compared to proper discrete PC cards. There is no getting around it either get a super high end laptop which can run TOR ok or get a relatively cheap standard PC and run it super. "canyourunit" sounds like a scam site, better check that your anti-virus/firewall is working properly
  15. Why would I give you my stuff if I plan to come back when it gets better
  16. I don't want easy mode, I just want more balance, the fact that some are rich and others can barely scrape by (tons of threads on that topic already) while still spending sparingly shows imbalance. The other things are about making it enjoyable instead of getting in the way with annoying mechanics.
  17. Yes it's new, that's why I chose to let it mature abit before playing it more. BTW I've never played WoW, just SWG, AoC, Eve and a few others.
  18. As I said, I'll save the entertainment for when the game is more complete, besides it's one of the few ways to send a clear message.
  19. You might think this is your garden variety QQ the game sucks thread, no, I love the game and enjoy it alot, I've been a TOR fanboi since October 2008 and still am in a way. The thing is it just feels a tad unfinished, I want to save my enjoyment to when more features are in and more of the bugs are ironed out. Specifically here's a list of things that annoy me, some might be "working as intended" if so then so be it, I can deal with it but the sum of it all makes it a tad much for me; - No auto stack in inventory or storage - I can't romance Ashara since I made the mistake of rolling a female - Mail to alts bugged - Can't mail to other faction alts - GTN horrible interface + Disappears if open any other window + Bad filtering options + Can't search by name alone + Only 2 days listing time - Abilities too expensive except for slicing "exploiters", especially if you craft - Cant change legacy name - Not good enough LFG tool - Too many items can be bought for tokens, makes crafting almost useless - UI is lacking - No relics for gray side, gray get left out - Can't change AC So that's what bugs me the most, I'm sure I'll be back when I see things getting in place laters *EDIT* *Common question 1* "Why bother with QQing?? Just leave instead!!" I like to give feedback before I go so the devs can improve if they find my feedback useful *Common question 2* "Give me your stuff!!" I would need my stuff for when I come back when things have settled *Common question 3* "It's only been a few days geez dood" Yes, and I'm not satisfied, hence my leave of absence
  20. There's quite a few glaring bugs and issues that needs fixing before adding new content
  21. lol WoW vs TOR is not bad enough we gotta draw Microsoft and Apple into the comparison as well haha
  22. That is why we can read the messags on our wrist computer and go to the mailbox to get items, or get them delivered to our ship
  23. You know your wishes are a contradiction right? To have a dynamic changing world we need instancing, the less instancing we have the harder it get to have a world we can impact since we can't rob the next guy of the content by changing it permanently. It's a fine line, if you look closely it's mostly the areas where we have significant story content that are instanced. It is to linear I'll agree on that but new players need some guidance, nobody is forcing you to follow the path slavishly.
  24. I've been playing almost non stop since Early Access day 1 only taking breaks to sleep, eat and do obligatory holiday crap, I'm on ONE character and I'm level 42. That's why it feels lonely at high level areas.
