  1. On my Vanguard, the quest object only dropped after killing both. I Just did this quest last night on my Merc Bounty Hunter. It was faceroll easy after the initial spike damage. CC one and go to town on the first. wait for heat and Mako to heal me to full then go to town on second mob. I popped my emergency heal cooldown but never really needed it. Like night and day between some classes how easy some things are. Both times i had to kill both mobs for the quest loot. CC completely makes this quest doable. Without it, you're going to struggle especially if there's noone else in the area to help out and you already invest some time in getting to that stage.
  2. Whoever designed the low level armor seems to have also designed the high level armor. There is some consistency in there (horridly amateur and just but ugly). The mid 30's armor to mid 40's (and 50's crafted) all looks good but it's quite obvious someone else designed these. The design language is completely different - you can tell they are different designers. That said, the set from Taris on up to 50 crafted all look great. It's only making sure you match the colours. With 1.2, that shouldn't be a problem.
  3. I started as a jedi guard and stopped mid 20's after i watched the cinematic a few times. I believe that guy in he video is Harun Tavus. The bugger charged a Sith Lord, pulled out a knife then tackled same Sith lord later on and detonated a nade in both their faces. I knew I was rolling this class. Hell, I knew this was the class for me when the guy pulled out his knife in a head to head against the Sith. Although, I also have a Bounty hunter. From a pure execution pov, the bounty hunter is just more polished. Even bounty hunter bugs are bounty hunterish. Like the unload animation playing after a target dies and you're still shooting the corpse. Both class get some really good looking armor in the 30's-40's range. pre-30's, troopers get the better looking armor. BH pre- mid 30's armor... vomit inducing.
  4. Yeap best trooper set I've ever seen as long as you pvp. If you don't, it takes quite a bit of farming to get soemthing decent looking. Also... I find the bounty hunter has a greater array of good looking sets than the trooper. Trooper armor is just way too colourful and often, the colours are just splashed on. BH colours tend to be more muted, even when there's 3 coloured striped going on the piece. Talking about mid 30's to mid 40's (or crafted 50's) only. Everything else is just weird.
  5. Athis drops the waist cloak armor set. It's a little bit too colourful and artsy for my taste. The accent is in the shape of a sunburst on the torso... and waist cloak. It's nice enough but definitely isn't going to be what you're looking for.
  6. I spent a lot of time farming for this specific look but there aren't many options for a "basic" trooper look without too much splashes of colour everywhere. The closest I have seen are: RD-15B COMMANDO GREAVES (fully modable). - It's slightly scruffed up/off white with the only detail being 1 minor orange colured band around the right leg. It's the most simple trooper legging I've found to get that basic look. Drops off Commander Gosular on Hoth. 5 minute spawn timer. Good luck. I farmed it for 1 week every 5 minutes and I only managed to get Rd-15B Commando boots off him and tons of everything else for other classes. But he definitely drops the boots and legs. Alternatively, you can use the Clan Varad Greaves which is gray and white, but it's rather dull compared with the RD15B legs. Clan Vard Greaves is easy to get if you farm it with a trooper. Flash Point Mandalorian Raiders. RD-15B COMMANDO GAUNTLET I'm unsure where these drop as I was just able to buy them off the Galactic Market. Seem to be a lot less rare than the Greaves as I was able to buy 5 of them from the market. 2 from Repub side and 3 from Empire market & transferred over thru Nar Shadaa. These re just pure white/off white gloves. The only colour is a tiny orange trim at the back of the gloves. Pefect "Standard" storm trooper armour and fits the other pieces very well. CLAN VARAD BODY ARMOR Flashpoint Mandalorian Raiders. It's a very "standard" trooper chest piece with very little detailing and no splashes of colour. It just has minor, thin bands of orange accents in a couple places. The rest of the trooper sets are a bit too colourful imo. - easy to get if you are a trooper farming it. HAWK BOOTS Flashpoint Maelstrom Prison. Final Boss. Again, it's all white with just slight orange trims as accept. Not a whole lot of colour and matches the Chest and legs perfectly. Best thing about farming this place is, you get a speeder from the final boss. Looks like a mechanical seahorse. You could also use RD-15B Commando boots but unfortunately the orange swatches on it are a little strong/obvious. It still works but less neautral than Hawk Boots. HELMET Honestly you can use any helmet you want. I use the commendation helmet from Hoth, but I've found almost all helms look good with this mixed set as it is an otherwise neutral looking set. BELT Anything that is white/orange/black will look good with this setup. Easy to get on market. This look is not to everyone's taste but it's very flexible and you can switch out the chest piece and it will still look good due to the neutral tone and minor amoutn of colours on it. Everything else is just too darn colourful. http://i.imgur.com/KU51Q.jpg There's a picture of the standard look and a more recent one with the Chestpiece from Corellia Commendation. As long as the accent on the chest piece is orange (although red/black works as well), the pieces are neutral enough to accommodate a chest piece change without looking off. Note Clan Vard legs. It's a little chunky and less elegant than the Commando legs. Also, triple barrel assault rifle with large scope =D
  7. I much prefer this: http://i.imgur.com/ptUl2.jpg It's got the same colour scheme as my armor. though, at the moment, I'm using a tri-barrel rifle that has a large scope on it. I never took a screenshot so that's my homework tonight.
  8. you don't get a the madalorian helmets (the T slits) until mid 30's from Taris heroic quest. Unless you get lucky at the galactic market and see someone selling the level 36 world drop mando helm (orange quality), you'll have to slog through those heroics. Alternative, get ppl together and run boarding party at 33. The final boss drops a mandalorian helm and first and second bosses drop chest and gloves respectively. The earliest mandalorian helm drop (green quality) is for level 37. So basically, you have to endure ugliness until mid 30's.
  9. yeah she was... and very exciting! I like these kind of women!
  10. Another way that works is after you kill the champ, go on a short killing spree. For whatever reason, it removes the block. I have been doing this every night for the last week farming Commander Gosular on Hoth (5 min respawn). 3 times is the limit. But you should really be wiping out 4 or 5 groups of mobs for when he respawns. That usually resets it.
  11. same with bounty hunters. At least it's easier for the trooper to get back to the general. My bounty hunter lands on drommand Kas and if your port is on CD, it's a long speeder ride to the entrance of the city. Entrance mind you. You still have to make your way to another speeder point at he back of the city then take that to get to the building where you need to run further to the huntsmaster. I always dread when the quest asks me to return to Dromman Kaas - which is pretty often. Corruscant is much more straightforward. Just run straight and eventually you're there.
  12. She mostly agrees with my decisions. If you read her profile, she may be a bounty hunter member, but she is a decent person with a strong code of ethics. She dislikes cruelty and unnecessary death; especially against those who are in weaker positions. She has no problem with you killing or doing the job; but she has a problem when the guy is already defeated. Basically, she may be scum but she believes in redemption and that there should be honor among thieves. and well... she's rather girly so....
  13. thanks for the replies. It looks like I may have to level a smuggler after all!
  14. Not just that but from 40 onwards you start seeing (pretty common) groupings of 2 strong + 3-4 adds. On my BH merc, I had no issue because I could CC one and work on the rest. On my Vanguard tank with really darn decent defences and gear (49% absorb, 15% def, 40% shield chance), I have no choice but to tank all of them, especially if my AOE doesn't kill the adds. Those defensive stats are pretty darn good in the way of mitigation but 2 strongs at later levels decimate you hard regardless. The best way around this is through superior firepower and/or long duration CC, something some classes simply don't have. So the tactic is to kill, die, res, mop up the rest. That is very, very poor game design to force a player to die as a tactic to defeating content. I know that BW did not intend that to be the case. The only real explaination is just going back and retweaking cerain mobs. Sith Battlers on Corellia in particular need some harsh adjustments. I'm farming Champions for loot that hit for far less.
  15. Every new game someone comes on forum and says exactly the same thing. In Rift, they complained because it took 2 weeks to level to cap and said it's too fast; Except that played normally, the game takes twice as long or even 3 times as long to hit cap. My first 50 in SWTOR took 4 weeks. 45-50 hours per week. How fast you level is completely up to you. BTW when most peopl claim casual, they actually fall within the "hardcore" range. 3 hours per day and all weekend playing is pretty dedicated. Casual players are those who take their time where gaming is just one of many things they have in their agenda. Those guys takes several months to do anything because they have a balanced life or different set of priorities. Also, "fast" is relative. 4 weeks to ding 50? You can hit cap in 2 weeks in WoW playing casually. You can hit cap in 3 weeks in Rift. Of the newer classes of MMORPG's, only LOTRO is he only game where it will take you a signifigant amount of time to hit cap. The world is large and the story is much expanded. Although even there; there are ways to hit cap relatively easily. The speed which you level is up to you.
  16. you do know the difference between a difficult encounter by design and a difficult encounter because they didn't tweak it properly? It's very obvious that some mobs in this game are very badly tweaked. These 2 particular mobs hit like on level Champions. Also, some classes have a very hard time on steps that are very easy on other classes. It has nothing to do with l2p. On my 4th attempt, I can't even tell you what I did differently that finished it. The first 3 times I couldn't even kill 1 mob. The 4th time both of them dropped. It completely makes no sense. It does not make you leet to say L2P.
  17. hmm that's pretty interesting. Personally I've always gravitated towards the more complex, more difficult to master classes (less face mashing). For whatever reason, I never even started a smuggler simply because I thought they were going to be the prototypical high dps class (read = faceroll). MMORPG have started to label classes based on difficulty of mastery. For example, LOTRO marks classes based on difficulty level to master. I definitely agree with you that the general trend is for people to gravitate towards fotm of very simple classes - not that there's anything wrong to that, of course. So are smugglers deficient in any way though? Could that at least be a contributing cause?
  18. I always saw that BH bug as working as intended. It just feels very Bounty hunter like to be rapid shooting the corpse of a fresh kill. And when you run to the body to loot it, he's still firing. All bounty hunter.
  19. I never really felt heat was a problem once I got enough points to reduce heat on crit. Crit gear isn't hard to come by even at lower levels. I crafted my own armor but I do realise that commendation vendors don't exactly horde tons of crit mods/enhancements. As it is, it's relatively easy to get 18% crit by your 20's - 30's and by 40 (my current level), I'm running at 23% crit. Definitely high enough that I can complete a whole group of mobs + silver within heat tolerance. Sure enough, about 20% of the time, I end the fights with 0%-10% heat buildup. my satndard attack probably only accounts for 10% of all my attacks. @ 20% crit, it should be more than enough for general PVE to maintain usable heat levels withotu resorting to heavy use of standard attack. Lower levels 10-15 is a bit more annoying, I agree, but things tend to die with fewer rotations. I only ever use vent heat on elites or when i get knocked back into other mob groupings.
  20. So wait, they don't have a community manager like Sanya Weathers? It's never a really good idea to let internal teams speak direct to public. Get a community manager to post info and do comms. Any heat taken will be directed at the comms manager. Internal people doing the actual product really don't need to be saddled with the negativity from the community. I know the tools exist now for internal people to communicate directly but being able to should not mean you should. The proper way is to let the manager handle all comms and internal people can only speak in very specific situations or under pre-arranged conditions. Or are they already doing something like that?
  21. It would actually be less tedious, for example, to set my trooper or Merc on auto attack then only activate my abilities as needed. Let abilities interrupt autoattack but as it is now, we have to activate like this: ability > standard >ability >standard Making standard auto would take the tedium out of it. To the OP, it would be a major change to do it though. The current system wasn't designed with auto attack in mind so putting it in would pretty much mean they have to redo the whoel combat system. It seems very unlikely and while I would personally like an auto attack, I simply don't think we're ever going to get it.
  22. I'm not gay (i'm a guy) but most of my toons (in all games) are female and in SWTOR, I really feel left out and really, seriously dissappointed that there aren't any same sex romance options yet. I really liked Jxo and Dorne and they BOTH have gotten to the point where it's all but outright flirt but I never get the option to take it any further. It's very frustrating in a very real way. Possibly because I'm still male and I view the female romance options as a real option that I don't get. In my head, I'm saying, well... my toon is just a female toon why can't I otherwise? it's a bit of an artificial lock out no matter how we look at it isn't it? And frankly, getting hit on by the cat man was just creepy. He kept tryign to show off and talk all big manly macho to me when on the ship. Real creepy. on the field he's all pro though.
  23. I think they did a good job here but the weight of light/dark points here is very personal.
  24. well that's actually pretty rude especially when the encounter isn't actually difficult. It's badly tune damage. It's a seriously badly tuned encounter. I did it after several tries on my tank spec vanguard and Dorne on heals. I have no credible CC to speak of. The mobs just burn you down no matter what; even when you pop ALL cooldowns. Trying to LOS them doesn't work (didn't for me). I had to take them on full frontal, fully stimmed, medpacked, and full Cooldown burns and it still took 4 attempts. It wasn't at all challenging; didn't require tactical skill, smart play or anything. It was a brute force fight that was about 4 times more difficult than the final boss. That's how you know the scaling is bad. Same with some silvers like Sith Battlers who chain cast 4k spells on you. You can't los them because they are melee and will just follow you. Even interrupt and skill lockdown means they'll hit you several times between your cooldowns/freeze. 1 is just about doable but 2 is a matter of killing 1, accepting death, res and kill 2cnd - bad design. Trash should not require tactics where your own death is required to kill them. The cyborg silvers in teh voss caves also have dots that tic for insane amounts and very fast. Killing 1 leaves my geared trooper at 20% hp after medpack and constant heals from Dorne. Final boss? Could have done it without heals or medpack whatsoever. It was that easy. badly. tune. mobs.
  25. Thanks for this mature response. The reality is, loot tables do come broken in what are supposed to be RNG systems. I recall Warhammer had issues with their RNG as well where they had to correct it and at one point they made it seem that they had to remove 100% random numbers altogether and load the dice. Especially when creating a game; your primary intent is fun, reward from effort and persistence. To that end, often, it's best to create the illussion. It works against the system when there are players who one-shot completely gear themselves up while there are those on the opposite end who do it for months on end (or even years) to get nothing. In one end, you've broken the illussion of effort, risk and reward (essentially were handed the reward) and in the other instance, you've burned out the player and he is completely numb and disenfranchised with the system. RNG systems can be tweaked and as WAR has shown, you can load the dice so it forces a more even distribution (something random is supposed to do but also has the unintended effect of also creating very extreme ends). Tweaking the system to ensure that extremes don't happen as often is a much better system than pure RNG. Heck, SWTOR already does this with the general loot in the game. It's random but it's rolled with a loaded dice. Pure RNG has no real place in proper game design. There needs to be systems in place that checks and balances the RNG. example of raw suckage of pure RNG? Running Scholomance 74 time to get 1 lightforge helm. Back in the days, it took 3-3.5 hrs to complete with PUG. Some PUGs (many) would take upwards of 4 hours depending on wipes (how many newbies joined). By that point, the RNG ensured that the actual game, is no longer fun. nearly 300 hours just to get 1 helm is insane and broken by ALL measures in game terms. In that time, I saw hordes of newly capped players comign in for the first time and walking out with set pieces. Systems to even out the raw RNG would have helped immensively even if some players had to still run it 2 dozen times. Obviously 300 hours to get 1 piece is a broken mechanic and saying "it's the fairness of random generator" is simply not a good enough excuse--we're playing a game here, not gambling in vegas.
