  1. In my post, I was just trying to understand what Dinosaourfalcon was trying to say. This is why I said, "Science states..." and put the word 'many' in front of women. I know plenty of women who are just as competitive, if not more, than many men I know. I agree that gender is a social construct. I had actually mentioned this in a similar thread to this one. Men are seen as aggressive and are expected to be, by society, but there are a lot of women who are also aggressive. Women are seen as, and are expected to be, nurturing by society, but there are a lot of men who are just as nurturing as women. In fact, there are a lot of men who make better parents than some women. Anyway, this is what I said in an earlier thread if anyone is interested. I'm re-posting because I think I said it better then than I could now. Sorry about the wall of text! Edit: Or perhaps some men are just naturally more nurturing than some women, and some women are just naturally more aggressive than some men. Anyway, just my opinion/two cents on the matter. Agree or disagree, it's up to anyone who reads this.
  2. I think I see what you are trying to say, and you can correct me if I'm wrong. Science, or whoever, states that men tend to be more aggressive, due to testosterone (I believe), therefore more competitive, thus they take games more seriously than many women do, because men see video games, in this case, as another arena in which to compete with each other.
  3. Yeah. I'll have to agree with you on that. That was a bit unnecessary on my part. Anyway, the original posts have been fixed. I still kept the two colors for the first post, but I got rid of the teal. It wasn't working well anyway. Thanks!
  4. Thanks! I try. It's quite therapeutic actually. Thanks! How often do you hear you are doing a good job? Not often, which is sad. Because if all you hear is 'You did this, this, and this wrong' it won't be long until you think, 'Well what in the Great BBQ Pit am I doing right?' So, in my opinion, it's good to hear what is going well along side what isn't going well.
  5. -blinks- That was a highly unexpected response. But, thanks!
  6. What I like about this game are the story lines. I write as a hobby, so one of the aspects I really look at when considering staying with a game for a long time are characters (how believable they are) and story line (how attention grabbing and holding it is). I am looking forward to seeing what BW has in store for the future in regards to the story lines already in game as well as the new ones they may have planned. What I don't like is how the non-class story lines get really dull after doing them 3+ times. Suggestion/Solution/what I would like to see: I would like to see are new planets that will give players options to continue on after their starting worlds. I understand this may be a bit difficult to do with the main class story lines. And, if BW does come up with a solution for this, I can see this change happening far into the future. Anyway, that is all I have for now. Due to classes, I haven't been able to get log into the game and check out the new content. Post your thoughts.
  7. There are enough negative/nonconstructive threads/posts on this forum. Maybe it's time for another positive/constructive one. I know if I were someone working on a big project such as this, I would get a little disheartened at the number of negativity and nonconstructive posts. I also know I would be a bit relieved that there are a few customers out there who do enjoy the game. Yes, I realize there are a few positive posts, but they often get drowned in the 'If X doesn't happen then I'll unsub' or 'Do this NOW!' or 'Anyone else tired of this game?' threads. So, here's your chance to say something constructive. I realize I just baited myself for so-called trolling. But, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I'll let the administrators decided how to handle 'trolls'. Constructive Criticism 101: Say what you like about the game, say what you don't like about the game, and offer suggestions/solutions/improvements (edit): or what you would like to see in the game in future content that hasn't already been announced. Please keep in mind that everyone has their own opinion. Just because someone disagrees with you does not make them a 'troll', 'hater', 'fangirl/boi', 'biodrone' or whatever. We are all gamers. We are all people. We all have a voice that wants to be heard. And, I would hope this thread would be the place people can go to to state their opinion without being harassed. If you disagree with someone, say why and move on. Please, don't resort to name calling. Remember: Opinion does not equal fact. Opinions are subjective knowledge based on a person's individual experiences.
  8. Wow! Thanks for posting this. That just made my screen so much easier to look at.
  9. Did you put in a bug report about this whether in game or on the appropriate forum? How widespread is this problem? In other words, have other people mentioned this same bug? If so, then BW/EA is aware of it and will get to it when they get to it, if they aren't already working on a solution. In the mean time, they are issuing patches to fix bugs/issues what have you that they have found solutions for. Keep in mind, they have a lot of players who report bugs so their to do list is relatively long, which mean they have to prioritize. If it isn't a 'game breaking' issue, then it is probably on the bottom of said 'list'.
  10. I know right. I mean, I don't know about you, but I just can't abide a gaming company who puts out patches every week or so to fix errors. Why? you ask. Well, hello! It cuts into my game time. I mean. Pfh. How dare they. Sorry. I couldn't help myself.
  11. I'll admit, I only read a couple of the first posts, so I don't know if anyone has pointed out some stats about female gamers. I apologize if anyone has. Women gamers are a minority? Only slightly. As of 2011, (Source: Game Player Data) Other sources to look at: The info here goes back to 2010. Video Game Industry Statistics And, the info here goes back to 2003.Reality Bytes: Eight Myths about Video Games Debunked I just thought I'd throw those out there. That being said, I've never actually run into any discrimination for being a female gamer. From what I've read, and run across doing research papers, this kind of discrimination was really rampant when WoW became popular among the male and female gamer population. But, that's been a while and I think this type of mentality has since died down a bit. Granted there are still cases, but I think for the most part, men are used to the idea that women play games. The ones who aren't are boys or men who haven't, mentally, grown-up yet. And, yes, guy gamers are seen as losers, which is sad because it's not true. There are many successful men, and women, gamers out there. Successful in jobs, family, friendships...you get the idea. Edit: Oh! This post was supposed to be a fun thing and not serious in spite of the seemingly serious tone of the first post. -smacks forehead- My bad. Well in that case: OMG! I'm a gurl and I play gamez! Now can sum burly white night help me with the two person heroix on my sith warrior, cuz I'm lost. -puppy dog eyes- Oh, wait. That's the mentality of girls who think that guys think that girl gamers are an anomaly. Seriously? To those girls who still think that way, look at the stats and realize that if a guy thinks girl/women gamers are a rare thing then they need to grow-up and do a little research or get out more. That being said, I still stand by what I said above. Good post by the way, OP. I suppose I should learn not to read too much into posts like this. -shrug-
  12. I don't know if this has already been asked. If it has, I apologize. Question: Will new planets be added in the future? I don't mean planets for 50+ level characters. I mean planets that have the same levels for lower level characters as well. Uh, let me see if I can explain this a bit better. I can understand the idea behind the starting planets. It's the worlds we go to after hitting level 10. I like creating alts because I like to experience different story lines. However, doing the same old story lines, aside from the main class ones, can get boring after doing them 3+ times (thus the space bar gets used quite often). So, I'm wondering if there will be worlds/areas added to give players a choice of where to go after leaving the first planet, instead of, "Ok, you're done with planet A, now go to planet B." I can see this may be a bit difficult to do with the main class stories, but I thought I'd ask anyway. I hope that makes sense.
  13. I agree with the last part. Due to school, I haven't been able to play much. But, as you said in a later post: This is why, personally, I'm giving BW more time to implement whatever content that happens to be. And, I wish you all luck in your search for other virtual adventures. I really hope they're aren't biting off more than they can chew here. Regardless, at least they are making an effort to implement content as well as fixing errors. Meh. Sorry, I personally can't relate. I got burned out from raiding in WoW due to the elitist BS that was happening. But, I suppose you'll find that crowd no matter what game you play. It's fine if you're a hardcore player. I can live with that. I support diversity in any arena. It's when hardcore players start throwing around an elitist attitude that I start taking issue. I'm just saying this in general. Nothing against the OP. Nope. If BW/EA doesn't get content out 'on time', then that is their problem, not mine. Besides, we don't know why patch content is late. We as players can only guess why. To me, how a company responds to a 'broken' promise is more important than the promise itself. I was born around the same time Episode IV was released. I grew-up with Star Wars. I play TOR for the story lines. I play TOR to have fun. Grinding for gear just to raid doesn't equate to fun for me. Now I'm sorry many hardcore players can't wrap their heads around that concept (kudos to those hardcore players who accept casual players for themselves and vice versa). Now, if what I said makes me a 'biodrone'... 'carebear'...'fangirl'...whatever then so be it. That is my business, not anyone else's. Side note: Don't assume that just because I'm a casual gamer that I feel I have some sense of 'entitlement'. I've seen this sense of entitlement come from both sides. I just hope that BW uses their best judgement in what or what not to put in the game.
  14. This. When I first heard that EA was going to be an unavoidable part of the TOR project (due to the fact they own BW ), I thought,"I really hope they don't ruin it." So far, I'm enjoying the game. That being said, this is the only video game with the EA label I'll be paying into, especially after ME3. I just hope the whole incomplete ending with plot holes doesn't happen with the very last expansion EA/BW puts out for TOR. (That being said, I am curious about the upcoming DLC for ME3 and the 'fix' for the ending that is planned, but I digress.) Personally, I think people are demanding too much, too early. After all, it took WoW 7 years to get where they are now. Oh, sure there's the argument that this, this, and this should have been added from the start because EA/BW should have done their homework and blah, blah, blah. And, yes, there are some features that should have been in at the beginning, guild banks, for example, which are in now, unless I'm mistaken. Maybe I'm being idealistic, but I think, and I could be wrong, that BW has a nice list of things they would have liked to have put in the game in the first place but didn't have time because the publisher wanted this game on the shelves on time. So, BW is taking a look at that list and prioritizing: This is what we wanted in from the start, so let's work on doing that. In the mean time they are also fixing bugs that have happened (with launch) and do happen when new coding gets put in with old coding and some string somewhere doesn't want to play nice with another string of code. I challenge anyone to name a published project that was 'perfect' after it hit the shelves. Even in published books you will find the occasional typo. This game isn't being built by some supreme being. It's being built by people and people aren't perfect. Then again what do I know. I'm just a Sociology major. Is SWTOR in decline? Only time will tell. Can it be saved? If it's doing better than the doomsayers seem to think, then what's to worry about. If not, I really hope it can be saved. I do have a list of I-hope-to-see-this in the future, but I'll leave that for the suggestion forums.
  15. Wow. "1-50 in 5 days" aka "How not to enjoy a story driven game" (my opinion of course). As someone else said, I hope not to read about any horrible consequences of such actions. Good luck to you and your friends, OP.
  16. I have a 6 mo subscription, so I'll stick with it until then. I am curious what those 6 months will bring to the game. Will I keep subscribing after the six months are up? Probably, mainly because SW:ToR fits my play style.
  17. OMG! That's such a game-breaking glitch! It needs to be fixed like right NOW! Did I do it right? Just kidding. I have actually seen something similar. Except there wasn't a black square or pixels there wasn't an avatar at all. Just a blank, blue circle. I see this pop up every so often. It's just a minor thing though. I figure BW has some bigger fish to fry, so to speak, and will get around to fixing it eventually. -shrug-
  18. That makes sense. I just thought it was funny.
  19. My IA and my husband's BH team up to do the quests, so we have Mako in our team. One thing I've noticed is Mako tends to heal herself after re-appearing from our characters using the speeder route or dismounting their own speeders, if that makes sense. My husband has noticed other healer companions doing the same. It kind of makes me wonder if they are prone to motion sickness. Or they just like the feel of kolto spray. mmmmm Refreshing and smells kind of minty.
  20. Hmmm. How much trouble will I get into for responding to this? Welp, here it goes..... Congress. Side note: I realize I wasn't the only one to think of this response...
  21. Yes. I'm enjoying the story line(s) and I look forward to seeing what is in store for the game.
  22. Yes, thank you for pointing out the obvious. I suppose that's why they were text based. That dosen't mean every MMO has to have the same features WoW does. There is such thing as thinking outside the box. Besides, if every MMO has the same features, it won't be long until people start complaining that it is old and something new and innovative needs to be created.
  23. For those who are saying, "This is 2012. SW:TOR needs to come with 'standard features'" and any other such none sense...since when did WoW become the poster child for what should be in a game? For you youngsters who probably don't know and don't believe this, WoW was not the first MMO ever made. MuDs (1975), Habitat (1986), Meridian 59 (1996), Ultima Online (1997), Everquest (1999), as well as others came out before WoW, which made its debut in 2004. I know the MuDs I played didn't have a LFG tool or dungeon finder. Never mind that it was text based, but that's besides the point. I didn't play the other games (I went from MuDs to WoW), so I don't know if they had all of the things in them that WoW currently has. I doubt it, but I could be wrong. Even then, it took WoW quite sometime to implement those features. Source: http://arstechnica.com/old/content/2005/10/gaming-evolution.ars/4 Just because a game is popular doesn't automatically make it a poster child for what should be standard in a game. One of the reasons, not the reason, but a reason, a lot of people play SW:TOR is because it isn't WoW. At least that is one of the reasons I play TOR.
  24. If I listen to anything it's usually my mix of Natalie MacMaster, Nature Sounds, Enigma, Loreena McKennitt, and New Age Instrumental.
  25. Diet Dr. Pepper, tea (Bengal Spice, Apple Cinnamon or Peppermint with a shot of French Vanilla creamer), or a cheap coffee type mix (2 tsps of Folgers Cappuccino Mocha Chocolate, 1 tsp of Stephen's Chocolate Mint Truffle or Milk Chocolate, 1 tsp of Stephen's White Chocolate and either a shot of French Vanilla, Hazelnut, or Italian Cream flavored creamer). It just depends on what I am in the mood for and how long I plan on staying up.
