  1. There are those in this game that choose to play in groups and no doubt these kind of quests are very enjoyable. I for one never accept the 4 person heroic and leave the 2 person till I have levelled the zone then do them on my own. Seems to work with the companion. The game therefore caters for both group and solo play. You really do not have to do all the content given that you will outlevel the zones or planets easily each time irrespective of which path you take. Unless that is you want to boost your way through the game avoiding the content.
  2. Gaming is not a way of life it is simply a form of entertainment. And in the case of computer gaming there are many titles on offer and none of the various games exclude any gamer from playing something else. I play World of Warcraft, Rift, Star Trek Online and many many games on my various consoles and still have time to play Star Wars the Old Republic. Today I will check out my chars in Rift and do a bit of crafting before playing my Smuggler which I started levelling a week ago. Then later I will play some Warcraft and then tonight play my main Jedi after a session of Final Fantasy XIII-2. I say this because I believe if you have a wider perspective of gaming you are less likely to constantly dodge between games because for some reason you believe you can only partake of one at a time. To me there is gaming and not games. And I also am not playing a game just to sustain a group of invisible friends. Having fun is way more important to me. And I always have fun.
  3. There is insufficient technical resource in the game structure to permit a planet wide generation of the type of world you desire. Should a more surface based scenario be the norm in the game I would suggest we would be limited to zones of the size seen in other popular games of this type. All game development effort would be concentrated on zones of a specific planet and the remainder would be mothballed. Added to this if you were to consider the greater world of Star Wars in respect of the sizes of buildings within cities you would challenge even the greater capacity of possibly all the computer power of the known world to generate the fantasy you desire. In simple terms it is not possible.
  4. So strange... I have always used the NVidia brand of graphics card and they have worked without fault. My computer is a Hewlett-Packard Company personal computer which utilises the Microsoft Corporation operating system type Windows 7 [ 64-bit ] to which I specifically requested and had fitted a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 graphics display adaptor. My experience of the card is that it has worked without fault. The Star Wars game The Old Republic runs perfectly with none of the reported issues, as does Blizzard's World of Warcraft, Trions Rift and Cryptic Studio's Star Trek Online. I am somewhat puzzled by your comments which appear like many on this thread to lack solid supporting evidence. Could I ask that those that choose to make such accusations provide links to articles and reports setting out the various issues so that I may better understand what others are experiencing. I am tempted to believe until proven otherwise that the real issue is as ever user/hardware error only insomuch that conflicts are likely to occur between data transfer and processing mechanisms within the system restricting the flow of information to the various processing facilities. This often can be due to ill-constructed networks, poor service facilities from data source factors and badly managed software conflicting with the machines operating system. To blame a reputable organisation such as NVIDIA in this way is seriously misguided given the limited technical knowledge of the average computer gamer.
  5. Alternative character creation allows players to enjoy the full latitude of gameplay. Pre-occupying oneself in a very vertical style of development, as with say the progression of one character, is also a choice of the player. Given that there are no specific strict boundaries to the game I struggle with your concept of 'endgame'. This would assume that there was a specific point in the game where you were concentrating on a finalisation of the general development of character or characters with a presumption of an ultimate challenge or even a 'game over' scenario. I would doubt that a game some two months of release would qualify as being subject to any great pressure to realise a climax to character development. Most I doubt have even begun to understood to what depth a specific class, race or faction can fully be realised. I for one partake of a number of alternative characters, or varying types of character, as I have yet to make a final decision on just which of these characters I would choose to develop further. I am sure as each progress I will favour one over the other, or maybe two or three over the others. At the time of making those decisions there will be greater elements of gameplay to explore and therefore more of the game stretching out in front of me. With this in mind I take the view that there is no such thing as endgame, only a perception of one. It may be further suggested that such a concept is indeed a 'misconception' possibly made by those that are more use to console style games involving a specific timeline of events. I doubt that anyone claiming to be in an endgame scenario have any true concept of the depth of this or any other game of this genre. PS As to 'ppl', well actually I am a person not a shorthand version of one. That may be where your issues begin and end, insomuch that maybe you are after an abridged version of the game with a much shorter timeframe. Only you can know this.
  6. An interesting thread title that emphasises the word 'you' as a contributory factor in the enjoyment of the game. The idea, no doubt, being that you are able to create your own entertainment from the game processes presented to you. Most interesting. I for one simply follow the specified path in the game as they are revealed to me by those symbols that appear above certain NPC's heads. The informative computer characters then proceed to explain given challenges and then my companion and I seek to resolve them which in turn generates further missions and so on. I do discharge my various other companions with tasks associated with crafting as this helps develop various skills. I have not concluded matters relating to the story missions and of late have created another character as I was inquisitive as to how they also evolve within the given game structure. This has been most rewarding and enjoyable. I am tempted to experiment with another but will no doubt savour that for a later period when my first character reaches the half century mark. I do not feel that I am needing to do very much to keep the game interesting given that if it failed to entertain then it would not be serving its purpose and I would most probably seek other forms of enjoyment. Fortunately the game as a whole is most satisfatory.
  7. The mathematical solution to your problem, if someone would kindly equate the formula, transposes the rate of mob eradication to that of mission rewards. You will find that in resolving this simple equation you could greatly improve the value of your overall XP factor by multiplying your combat activity by the number of targets you acquire. The value of the mission reward is always complimented greatly by longer activity in the specified zones in removing subject mobs from the field of operation. The variables are time and neutralised mob numbers with the only constant that of missions. Therefore to increase XP you would need to increase the two variables. In essence raise the possibility of an orange perpendicular and kill more mobs. That should do the trick.
  8. That was new and interesting. You appear to reason that a slight on the good name of World of Warcraft is suffice to justify your argument. Though your argument is without substance. I for one play the game in question and fear that you misconstrue the question in hand given that the one click you refer to, I assume relates to LFG which by nature requires a group. For my part I never group, given that I enjoy playing on my own. Other players are not necessary to progress in the game and I enjoy my own pace of play. Most times I am on specific quests and battling my way through various stages of the story. There is little point in me halting my current path through the game to form a group. The various group stages are easily solo-able once you complete the story chain as you are likely to be three levels higher. By that stage my efforts are directed to the next stage of the story and I find myself so involved I am already on the ship and travelling to knew adventures. This game is most enjoyable as a solo game and I along with my companion are suffice it seems for the greater content of mission activities. I do not feel the need to curtail my missions for the sake of others given that such processes are deemed less enjoyable than the singular mode of play that suits me better. Most other game users that I have had the misfortune to interact with on similar such games as World of Warcraft have been less than satisfactory in their general behaviour and this is most intolerable. In truth there is little benefit to me and therefore I choose not to interact. That is my choice and I am left thinking that it may have something to do with their years spent thus far in terms of games experience. Enjoy your gaming. We are not all of the same mind.
  9. What is 'mmorpg'... Is that some kind of official publication. Can you link to the article so I can read for myself. I am not disputing what you say, I just want to validate the information before making my own valued judgement. PS Sometimes the loss of staff is a good thing, particularly if they are failing in their duties and they are under pressure to leave. As I say post the link to your source.
  10. The game is not restricted to group play only. Those that play solo do not interfere with any group players game play other than they do not make their services available for group benefit. That is their choice. I see no problem in this method of play and certainly I for one enjoy every minute I am online. As for chat, well I am surprised anyone has time for that. Given that I for one seem to be fighting my whole time, I really have no spare moments for such activities. Sadly I see no purpose in... What did you say..? ' screwing around ' Very odd. I would leave such discussion for those that stand around cities with time on their hands. They obviously enjoy such jollity so again I don't see how someone that does not partake of such verbal intercourse, can be causing you a problem. I for one have read some of the text talk on channels and really it is way above my head anyway. Skyrim is a very poor console game by the way, especially if you are a serious gamer. Console games are fine for a month till you complete but you really need an MMO if you are planning to play for several years.
  11. I find it most interesting when individuals make personal comment, which in truth is just an opinion, quoting matters as though they were indeed fact. There is no factual support for your viewpoint, it is based on the idle gossip of those frequenting forums and supported with no evidence what so ever of the intentions of the creators. I would make my own comment but this would be as worthless as your own. Suffice to say there are few in business that go out to create a product with little interest in its success. That is simply not good business practice. May I suggest when targeting a company with malicious intent you at least have the good decency to quote sources and maybe link with tangible evidence. That is all.
  12. But if nobody wants to play with you how can you make them. And from my own experience if you want to actually see real anti-social behaviour then use a tool like LFG. Your suggestion that the 'game' = anti-social is false. It is the players themselves that choose to be sociable or as you put it anti-social, though the term here is used out of context. Because if the social norm is not to group then it is you that is anti-social by going against the general way the given community wish to exist. You can only be making a comparison set against the values of another game. Therefore if the cultural, social and moral values of the given community do not concur with your standpoint on matters then you risk becoming an outcast and that can be deemed anti social. The game makers will in time no doubt take a view on matters depending on financial returns for their product. But if the greater community fulfil the creators financial targets then there will be no need to satisfy the anti social minority. Did you see what I did there. At this point I would normally score 50 Light.
  13. I have been playing a little over a week and am enjoying my Jedi Consular a lot and am Level 25. I play nights and weekends and so will take me a month I guess to get to 50, maybe a touch longer. I will complete everything, not skip stuff and listen to all thats said. I also work at crafting and spend a lot of time doing this. Today though I started a Smuggler and obviously a different area and different story and different skills. And I am somewhat torn between playing this afternoon as the Smuggler or carrying on with the Sage. Both are as intersting, but I am intrigued as to how the Smuggler develops. So the replay side of the game is great and I guess it gets even better. Great fun. I would also be very happy going through the Sage story again cus I am enjoying it so much. And the smuggler... My goodness.
  14. You have obviously never been that troubled by running round Stormwind, to the tram, waiting for tram travelling on tram, gone to Ironforge, run through Ironforge and done what you need to do . Found your way through Wetlands to the boat got to the other kingdom, got all the flight paths, swam to Feathermoon, struggled to Darkshore, boat to Darnassus and then back and rinse and repeat. Obviously easier today but interestingly loads want it back the way it was. I walked all the way through Northrend just to prove that I could get to 80 without a mount. It really is all in the mind if you are truly enjoying yourself. I am enjoying myself and as with Stormwind I expect to walk places. Its way more realistic that way. And me, well I'm staying cus its a blast. And I really do hope they keep the game structured as it is, cus it is different from the others... primarily cus you are always up against multiple mobs and you get the help. Great concept instead of the... one on one you get in WoW and Rift. Also having the different grade of mob and grouping is great for levelling as you can choose your own pace of progression. ie take on the elite or not. Take on the heavy or not. And now they have these healers that you need to work into the system and the roaming Sith.. my goodeness that was a surprise. Nothing like that in WoW or Rift. Rift is the worst cus really if you like you can take on every mob one at a time. WoW wasn't that much different.
  15. Interesting, because I actually can see my outfit as a Jedi Consular growing more significant as I progress and this is quite warming given the other games I play pay no respect it seems to your advancement. I do like the outfits I have created and been fortunate to acquire and I can sense where the progress will eventually settle. For each class/race/faction there is I guess a standard of clothing so that you look the part. I for one always sense the Republic as a more reserved group and therefore the clothing simply reflects this. As to the Empire, I guess they need to reinforce their ways with flashy gear. That is their choice. Not something I would ever be interested in.
  16. Probably posts like this come top of my list but hey everyone to their own. For me I have faith in the creators and I have now adjusted to a different type of play. It was only annoying at times because it was different to what I had been used to. Sadly the other games cater for the lowest common denominator and are hell bent on over simplifying things. Sadly for every simpler solution comes less effort and therefore simply advances the point of boredom. By being forced to do things often makes you work harder and learn more. Its actually a significant fact of life. But sadly today we live in a world of fast food and text talk... There is the problem.
  17. The game is excellent indeed. It runs without fault on my computer. I am looking forward greatly to building my character as the game grows. Complaints on forums are to be expected. I have not found a forum yet that has been wholly complimentary all the time. So if you're having fun then thats all that matters.
  18. Isn't it refreshing to actually have animated discussion as opposed to walls of text. I am not sure that anyone given text in a quest would read it any more than watching the clip. And yet in the voice acting there is a development of character and you can enjoy seeing your character respond. It is ashame that there wasn't more answers that you could give. Its really not about voice acting its more about the development of story in the context of a more human three dimensional world, which after all is how we experience the real world. We should be applauding the creators here.. cus hopefully one day we can develop the concept further. I mean this is the magic of computer technology. Otherwise we would all still be stuck playing board games or reading books. This can only get better. And I believe that by supporting this type of game we can look forward to more realistic and more enjoyable games. Don't knock it.
  19. Why did you come onto the forums stating that you are struggling to get into a game and use this argument to prompt the notion that others are leaving. Bit like saying I can't get into a book so please everyone stop going to the library. I play Rift and enjoy the game, its not hard you just follow the story threads and then when you take off the stabilisers you create a world for yourself. Same with WoW. This game goes even one better by giving your character a believable personality that grows with the story. Not sure if its gaming problem for you or just an aptitude to something that needs a certain amount of dedication to enjoy. I am not trying to be insulting but maybe a beat-em-up or shoot-em-up would suit you better where you just have to go fighting all the time. Like Call of Duty maybe or one of the console killer games of which there are many. To play games like these you do need to get into character and enjoy the character you are crafting. It is not supposed to be simple easy ride, thats what makes MMOs so intoxicating. I sense from this forum there are many here who are failing to understand and seem hell bent of persuading others to leave. Fortunately the Force is strong in my character and I for one have the will to continue cus in the end I will enjoy the benefits. Just like I do in WoW and Rift and STO and Final Fantasy etc. All my chars are valuable and they are all hand crafted by me. And I call them up and play them to suit how I feel. This game is a bit different I have to say... And my Jedi is starting to become very very special. Anyway have fun... I'll stay subbed for a very long long time. The journey is something I look forward to greatly. You would be surprised how far you can travel in an MMO.
  20. I have noticed that the XP gains mean that you are four levels ahead for the next zone before starting there. The next zone was for me Level 20 and on completing the quest lines and not doing any group stuff or heroic or flashpoint thingys I was Level 24. There does seem to be an inbalance there, and yes it would be nice to slow things up a bit. Cus the game is one linear path you really want to enjoy the mobs at the level intended. You can't farm for crafting either cus you will also burn through your XP . At the moment I am holding back on crafting cus I will advance the XP as nodes are in mob territories. And my crafting is suffering being way lower than where my level is. So yes, I agree with the OP. Maybe we could just switch it off for long periods. That would help.
  21. Why didn't you just say I'm done playing with this character, I refuse to play an alt and so what else is there to do ? Instead you use a whine just to show off and brag to give some kind of importance to your post. I won't tell you what I've played and games and characters I have created and achievements and levels I have attained... But I would bet it's way more than you have ever done. The trick though is to just enjoy youself and that also means getting out once in a while. But then if you want to grow in a vertical line never spreading out to take in way more then that's your choice. But the vertical linear path is always the fast route to boredom... But then you should know that seeings as you're an expert on gaming. Well one sort of gaming anyway. I would suggest a console game in future, that way you can burn out the content and know it's over cus they'll role the credits for you. THE END
  22. Sorry if I got the wrong forum but I seem to be struggling finding a technical help section. Perhaps a kind moderator would move the post as necessary. Anyway... I am sure in time we will get a wardrobe slot and so I am keeping some of my nicer gear just in case. I am Jedi Consular and I have picked up a very nice tunic top which I want to keep. Trouble is there is a bit missing from the back at the bottom. It is even missing from the animation clips. I think its cus the bottom of the outfit overlays the top bit and blocks it out. The missing bit is really annoying cus you spend all your time looking at your character. I know the creators have a lot to do, but could some kind soul just fill in the empty bits for me... pretty please. The tunic is lovely and I will certainly want to wear it all the time when you add the wardrobe slots. I like the hat also by the way... Hoods no.. hats yes or just a click not to show hoods, that would be good. Great game.. Keep up the good work.
  23. Casual is someone who hardcore players call casual cus they are not as mad and as nutty as they are, about 'just' a game. Its 'just' a game. Me I'm solo hardcore. I have 10 at cap in WoW and 10 others at 60 that I froze at Cata. I have 11 at cap in Rift and a very nice Science Vessel with a full compliment of crew in STO. I play games all the time on computer when not at work. Thing is I don't group, don't raid, never used an LFG tool and never been in a guild. I play with nobody. And trust me.. I've been called casual by the hardcore nutters with their shiny shiny stuff. So amusing. I think you should rephrase the question as a definition between normal and er someone who is er well 'not normal'. Gaming is fun and not a way of life. I like my hobby but others treat it more like a job. Seriously abnormal that. I work to play. And that always means having fun. Grinding the crap out of the game for 0.2% uplift on crit is a serious mental condition that the player needs to seek help about.
  24. I bought the game and started about this time last week and I am Level 23. I have played 39 hours in total. I have tried to do every quest cus I enjoy questing and enjoy playing the thing I payed for. Your comments make no sense cus if I buy Final Fantasy I'll come home nights and play Final Fantasy.. Why wouldn't I ? And I bought this game and I wanna play this game. Its not bad but even I can see its empty. I just logged off and there are two players in that Fleet place and I have seen only a handful of players again all night. Its the kind of activity I would expect in Netherstorm in Warcraft which is the endzone for the TBC expansion.. thats pre Lich and Cata. I actually dont mind but in a week or so I will be 50 I guess and I only play nights. And then I may start a new character. I'm a mad leveller and I have many chars on a number of MMOs. Thing is I can see how I would get my fun but I do appreciate that others won't put up with a lack of population. Poeple who play MMOs like the bars full of drinkers and plenty of activity to show off their gear. I guess even if I logged into Sanctum I would see players around. There are none here. Its just not going to last... So sad really. Its a good game. It just won't keep players logged in. So mergers will come and I'll lose my name and my server I guess. Thing is do I want to invest time here or carry on with Rift and WoW. Dunno. The future is always in the hands of those that want to play. And there are not many that I can see. Hope I'm wrong. One week in and the game already feels cold and empty. Wish it wasn't that way.
  25. I do find it very amusing that I am supposed to be a healer. I always play healer or cleric. I have many chars in WoW and the same in Rift and when I heal I really heal, But at Level 22 here and a Sage with all my points in healing I do zero healing. My companion is 3836 health and my heals do 171 or 335 or 611. And the time it takes to cast the poor things dead. I just don't bother, and yet my Sentinel in Rift can replenish me almost fully even when Im playing high DPS with nothing in healing. The equiv Holy or Warden in WoW/Rift does serious healing. This character is a joke. I just don't see how I could group and keep a tank alive. So I won't bother. The damage is better, so I keep my companion alive with AOE blasts and lifting the main mob. I also don't get why he races to the lifted mob and doesn't go for the ones attacking me... And seriously can we get him to get on a lifting platform when I do. Its worse than being on the tram in WoW with my cat. I prefer my Warlock Felguard I have to say.. Way more responsive. No doubt I picked the wrong char for healing. So I see myself more as a Shadow but I know Sage should heal. The tree doesn't grow fast enough either, its quite primative compared to the soul system in Rift. As ever though you don't need to spec up anyway and given the ride back to a trainer I don't train that much. Doesn't seem to affect the damage I do. And in this game you really don't have problems with elites like you do in Rift and WoW. The scaling of all mobs is way way lower in this game.
