  1. I am curious to know why all the hate for this game in this forum? I been playing for about a week now, and this is the most fun I have had with an mmo since I quit playing WoW.

Why do so many people think Starbuck's makes bad coffee?

Why do so many people think Fast food is bad for you?

Why do so many people think Japanese cars are super reliable?

Why is Microbrewed beer considered superior to cheap beer by so many?

Why do so many people think Walmart is bad yet so many people shop there anyways?

All these questions and more can be answered with a little observation.

  2. Nope, according to BW they will not be making server forums because they can't handle people acting like, well, people. In short server forums don't bode well in the police state that BW like to create in their forum realm.

It's obvious the leadership at BW knows how pvp communities work right? No server forums means no pvp rivalry and no ability to coordinate events.

More and more this company fails me.

I would love to know the actual name of the person who is making these decisions.

  3. Did you play WAR? It didn't "slowly shrink". And if you did play WAR, you would know why.

TOR is the very model of stability and careful design compared to WAR. And I really liked WAR, and wanted it to succeed, but it was broken on almost every conceivable level.

TOR feels like it was launched 2-3 months early. There are some missing features, some underdeveloped features, and some bugs/rough edges that need attention. But the mechanics are sound. I see no reason why it shouldn't avoid the kind of massive pop crash WAR experienced.

I have a RR 83 White lion named Carnivore.

And, yes the game did shrink quickly at first but many players held on like me for a long time.

So yeah my RR83 was my highest toon but I had a lvl 40 BW, Ironbreaker and Squigherder.

  4. Apparently you haven't. The release of ToR is without a doubt one of the smoothest MMO releases ever. WoW didn't function for nearly 3 weeks after public release. Just because theres a few non-game-breaking bugs floating around, you act as if it's the worst game ever.

Step back from your teenage angst and enjoy the content that took 5 years to build.

Rift's launch was 10x's smoother. Just saying.

Day one on Rift's forums people were complaining about balance not bugs because the game was very solid on release.

I wish I could have Rift's gameplay with SWTOR IP and you would have a great game.

Rift just lacks good art and IP but the release was smooth as glass for the vast majority of players.

Comparing WOW launch from last century to a modern game is a little disingenuous. The standards for a car in 2012 is much higher than a car from 2000.

I expect Skyrim to be better than Oblivion. Rift was launched better than WOW. Gears of WAR 3 is better than Gears of war 1. The Uncharted series is better on launch than previous games. Any game made in 2011 should launch and play better than a game lauched 7 years earlier.

It's called evolution and BW/EA failed horribly on fundamental mmo systems that are simply not even in game yet. The game was launched early obviously to catch Xmas sales. The executives are given incentive's to make short term gains to justify their bonuses.

The fact that Swtor lauched with so many missing game systems is very detrimental to a mmo's long term viability or at least the game is going to lose any initial momentum it may gain. That being said SWTOR will go on for many years but unless they throw alot of many at the game now the game is going to slowly shrink over the next 2 years just like WAR did. WAR is on 1 server now but it took a long time to shrink that much.

  5. Except that both Bioware and EA are run by people who know gaming whereas ActiBlizzard is not. What was your point again?

Are you just trolling? Are you 13 years old?

How you could say this is mind blowing!

EA is notorious for making bad plays and being ran by corporate suits.

Blizzard will polish a game till a turd is a diamond. Diablo is going to blow SWTOR away and that's not even really it's competing market. Hell I hate Diablo type clicky games and I don't really like Blizzard but even I'm starting to contemplate playing Diablo since SWTOR is such a let down so far.

EA ruined WARHAMMER which I played for 1.5 years.

EA rushes all games out and this always hurts them.

Personally this is the last mmo I ever try from EA. Between Warhammer and SWTOR they've chosen bad engines on both games.

I hope they pull SWTOR together but to say Blizzard is clueless about gaming is so ignorant and childish it goes above and beyond hur dur.

  6. It actually runs a system trick to function as mutl threaded by running two .exe's at once, but yes, the lack of native multi threading is a weakness. As for games over the last 6 years? Multi core systems were really only popular the last 4-5 years, so most folks weren't writing a ton od multi threaded games previously.

OH! that totally explains the double .exe running.

    Thanks for that clarification.

It's really a shame because the game had a lot of potential. I'm afraid though much like WARhammer with such a fundamental flaw the game won't hold it popularity.

We can already see how much trouble they're having squashing bugs that have been reported for many months now.

Some engines are just fundamentally flawed and it appears Hero is one of them.

I still don't think WARhammer has fixed pet pathing, they never will either.

  7. I believe the issue is in the fact the Hero engine is single threaded. From what I understand this means that a multithreaded CPU (which they all are now for year and years) won't be able to fully utilize it's potential because the software can only process one action at a time where a multi threaded piece of software could send 2 or 4 actions to the cores of your cpu and each core will work with a thread.

I might be wrong about all that but that's my current understanding of it.

So basically the Hero engine is 1999 tech.

I don't even know if any game int he last 6 years was made that is single threaded software?

Multithreaded software has been around for along time. Why you would use a engine that lacks such a fundamental feature is beyond me but I'm sure money has something to do with it.

    Politics follows economics. Fundamental truth.

  8. I like the game for the most part. I see its potential and also wish certain things were implemented at launch instead of some point down the road.

But all I really do is pvp. Sadly, I'm on a dead server (Nathema). Patch 1.1 is going to have all level 50's in their own pvp queue. There's only a couple level 50's on the server that actually pvp. That means without a cross-server pvp queue I and other level 50's will NOT be able to pvp anymore.

    :(

Seriously guys, I'm totally bummed out over this.

It's bad enough that I cannot do any of the Ilum war dailies because the Republic never goes there to cap the bases back. Now I won't even be able to pvp in warzones...

I still don't know why a avid pvp'r would roll empire on any server.

I'm on prophecy of five which is sith 5v1. All of the empire guilds claim to be hardcore pvp'rs then roll empire so they can faceroll the next two months while republic gears up.

    Tired of such wimps.

I'll repeat myself. Why any real pvp'r would roll empire when the servers are so out of whack is beyond me.

I say if you rolled empire then you deserve long que times. You rolled easy mode now enjoy it.

  9. I've got to agree with the OP here.

I'm a pretty good pvp'r but after hitting 50 I just spent the last few days hunting datacrons instead of grinding pvp gear like my guildies did.

Last night I did a set of Warfronts that fit the picture of what the op describes. We got spawn camped over and over again to the point I didn't want to leave spawn but guess what? You have to.

Even Rift would let the losing team hang out in spawn as long they're moving around and not afkiing.

Being forced to run to your slaughter is no fun.

  10.

Nice job! Half of those links are empty and broken. This guide is missing illum and voss entirely. this goes to show you how much thought some of these posters use. trust me. the youtube guide I linked you is very organized and well thought out.

He also shows you and talks you through finding the locations which is very helpful.

  11. Cough...Guild Wars 2 cough...

Otherwise @OP /signed for respec costs being made trivial so players that are skilled to fill multiple roles can exercise that skill.

To all the one dimensional players that can't see past doing one thing in game, your arguments for gimped game play is bad.

GW2 has done away with the traditional mastery tree.

It's much closer to WAR's tactic system but much more expansive.

GW2 designers have already said they've ran dungeons only with elementalist's in different specs.

Gw2 will allow you to spec any class into a variety of roles quickly and easily but Arenanet is also a super hip company who knows what the modern mmo gamer wants.

    We want fun gameplay.

  12. For someone who plays WOW perhaps..

Not SWTOR.. I haved been playing this game for over 6 months now.. Every spec is a DPS spec.. You aren't handicapped like you were in WOW.. Not to mention you do have companions.. Which everyone seems to forget.. If they area geared right they are ready for any sitution..

This is not WOW people.. Anyone attempting to use the WOW excuses simply hasn't played this game long enough.. Why level as a healer if you can't DPS as one??

The game has only been out for a few weeks.. So.. This is all understandable..

When in doubt!!! Speak to the great orange pixel for advice!!

    . :)

So that your deal huh? Anyone who calls you out on your horrible ideas played WOW? I did play WOW once when BC was around. I liked BC but quit because of pvp gear and not wanting to grind two sets of gear to compete in pvp.

so yes, I did play WOW 5 years ago. Since then I played WAR 1.5 years and Rift for 6 months. You can even throw a Tabula Rasa in there as well with some City of Hero as well.

The problem you seem to be facing is stating dumb things on the internet and being called on it.

Why you would want to dictate how others play is beyond me.

Why someone cares how other people play is beyond me.

I can totally understand having laws telling people not to harm each other, but to tell others they should enjoy a video game in the same way you do is childish.

If you don't like changing specs so be it, but that is half the fun for me and many others.

  13. You know your last post complained about how dual speccing had some sort of correlation to people standing in the fire on World of Warcraft. Now you're advocating we bring companions who have no sense of evading environmental hazards instead!?

I hate using the companions personally. I look forward to the day I'm geared enough to just solo level 50 packs by myself.

it's incredible they let the companions be CC'able. I ganked dozens of people leveling by just cc'ing their pet. I got ganked once while leveling. Blows my mind they didnt think about this.

I only gank people in hopes enough complain about how broken it is they fix it.

  14. How about we not talk about anyone's personal game play and you explain to us how dual speccing well have no effect on the game play at large??

Look at the big picture here..

Can you even give a logical and viable reason to have dual speccing??

Take any character and their companion and name a single situation where dual speccing is required..

What I see from the dual speccing crowed is hyperbole, strawman, and fallacies..

Dual speccing deminishes the quality of the game and the players playing the game.. That effects all of us..

WOW is a perfect case study in the effects of dual speccing.. WOW has been nerfed countless times because people in general lacked the skills needed to succeed.. People complained the raids were to hard.. They weren't hard.. People never learned what 'Don't stand in fire!!' means.. So they would stand there and die.. Nobody knew how to work as a team.. Nobody knew how to play their own characters.. Dual speccing lead to all this.

People could no longer specialize in the specs they like the most.. They had to have 2 specs to learn.. The loot issue.. Everyone rolling for off specs.. It is bad enough we have peeps rolling for companions.. All troopers will be looked up as tanks.. All Sages will be looked upon as healers.. People will be asked to change specs to ones they don't want to play to complete a group because the raid leader is to lazy to get the right person.. Or it is easier to get DPS..

There are a ton of things that dual speccing changes.. None of which are fallacies or hyperbol.. There are no strawman arguements here..

What is here is your desire to pit your wants against a single person and not the entire game.. Since when was what you wanted more important than all of us?? ;)

Answer: because I enjoy playing mulitple roles in a mmo and I don't roll alts. It's fun for me. It's fun for me. It's fun for me. It's fun for me.

since it's not fun for you don't respec. There you go.

  15. Hello,

I realize that you are trying to add flavor in the game by having you get in your ship from a planet/station, take off, go into space and choose a destination to go to, then disembark from your ship to a shuttle to take you to the station/planet or in the case of no fly zones, going to an orbital structure which then takes you to the planet.

It has a very cool flavor to it the first 30 or 40 times you do it. But I'm finding that after that, I'd really like to spend less than 25 minutes of running around to join my group for a night of playing in which we get about 3 hours. 25 minutes of it used in transportation is like going way back to the days of EQ when you had literally 15 minute boat rides where you did nothing but sail around and hope not to die to bugs.

Travel in SWTOR is a lot like that. I would like the option of taking the cumbersome route for the "flavor" of it if I was in that mood for some reason, but I'd also like the option of getting to my party a LOT quicker.

If you are keeping it that way for "flavor" then I'd have to point out that personal hovercraft at level 25 being used in mass on the fleet station more than completely destroys the ambiance and mood. Even if you add in transportation time reduction, I'd like to see the personal craft removed from the space station and instead give everyone a better run speed to compensate. It just looks completely silly with 15 personal speeders running all over the place inside a space station or having the vault access look like some kind of Drive in Movie lot.

You're crazy! They should INCREASE the CD time on it to 7 days.

You want easy mode? Why do all these blizzard posters (paid for by Blizzard) have to water the game down with fun?

You can have your fun. We play SWTOR, we want tedium and boredom in our game ty very much.

SWTOR's would be perfect if they would just implement my idea to make space travel between planets in real time. I think going from the fleet to Tatooine should take 6 hours of real time.

Oh and please no dual spec and can you please add more load screens? Pretty please Bioware?

  16. After 7 days of no respec it does reset to free. Cost does start building if you do it more than once in a 7 day time frame. I know this because I've watched my hubby respec 4 times in a day then wait the 7 day timeframe and go back to free. Respeccing is meant to help you fix the oops mistakes, hence the after 7 days it's free again concept, not the WoW equivalent that lets you do it on a whim because you want to do multiple things at once. You choose what tree you want to play and be in and stay there. They expect you to try out the spec you're in for a little while instead of going back and changing it around again.

Same people to claim they love freedom then turn around and attack abortion rights.

Same people who claim to love freedom then send our troops to foreign lands to squash freedom.

Same people who claim to love the constitution but want religion in public schools.

It's always the same people. If you told them you wanted the freedom to shave your face and they thought it would alleviate their personal boredom they would argue about it.

Dual speccing so the op can enjoy his game. I'll roll the specs i roll and he can do the same.

  17. Because your decisions do matter. Just not ones in flashpoints really, aside from DS/LS points.

You might call it "outdated", but to some it's pretty much a standard of RPGs. Next thing you'll say is calling EXP "outdated".

It's not standard anymore too anyone who has been playing modern games. Rift sqaushed the idea of expensive respecs and I'm glad.

There is no reason to punish the players like the OP. If you want to commit to your spec then fine do it but don't tell others how to play.

Meta game changes and players should be encouraged to experiment with spec.
