  1. Companion involvement is a very big one. People overlook this for some reason, but its definitely a genre first. Hirelings and voiceless tag-alongs in other MMOs do not count. This is pushing the companion forward in MMOs, DEFINITELY. The personal story, context to quests, VO for every NPC. This is pushing the genre forward. It's been done before to a much lesser degree, yes, but as I said, this is pushing that metric FORWARD. It has not been done this well in any game previous. No where even CLOSE. No, not even Conan. Maybe if they continued what they had on Tortage with the rest of the game you could argue that, but even then, this is far better. Those are two really big things. You can't dispute either. Sure maybe you don't like them, or they don't appeal to you, but that doesn't discredit them in any way. Another, smaller mention is Huttball. Yes, similar PvP arenas have been done before, however not with the announcing that is actually relevant to what is going on during the match. "Rotworms Score" "Frog Dogs have the ball" "Terrible Pass" etc. This adds to the experience making it more engaging, and interactive. This is pushing the PvP battlegrounds experience forward in the genre as well. Again, your enjoyment of Huttball doesn't change the FACT that it's new, innovative, and likely to be "copied" in the future by other developers because it is very useful, and pushes the genre forward.
  2. people who don't know anything about game development or programming telling game developers and programmers that they're lazy and not doing a good job. that is what this thread is.
  3. What would you have them do? If there were some kind of collapse, based off anything official, what are players supposed to do? You fault them for dismissing it. Probably because they're enjoying the game. So you'd like them to stop enjoying it then? "SITE XDOTCOM SAYS THE GAME IS FAILING, I'D BETTER QUIT" I mean seriously, what do you care if people dismiss it or not?
  4. I don't know how many times one has to reiterate the same thing. The argument about SWTOR coming out in 2011 and WoW coming out in 2004 so SWTOR should have all those features blah blah blah is garbage. Completely garbage. You need to actually stop and think about development for a minute. When they were planning out SWTOR, I'd say it was either during Vanilla WoW, or Burning Crusade at the latest. They had a bucket list of things to implement, and began work on it. Development for this time of game takes YEARS TO DO. So yes, while they were developing this game WoW was coming out with new and interesting features, as were other MMOS. That's great, but if they stopped and kept adding every new thing in to this game during that time, it would never come out. It would constantly add development time, and the game would end up like duke nukem forever. Instead, they did what they set out to do with intentions of adding features post launch. THIS IS HOW MMOS WORK. Yes, WoW came out in 2004, and SWTOR did learn a lot from that believe it or not, but you CAN'T realistically add in every feature WoW has added WHILE YOUR GAME IS IN DEVELOPMENT and expect it to fit budget or come out on time. Anyone who uses that dull lifeless argument that oh well WoW came out in 2004 so SWTOR SHOULD HAVE ALL THOSE FEATURES BECAUSE ITS 2012!!! obviously doesn't have any idea of how the real world works, nor have they ever held a job that actually does anything of use, besides feeding fat people, or washing their cars or whatever. Seriously, drop that argument, it only makes you look ignorant and stupid.
  5. You've been pretty tight lipped about 1.2's release date at this point, apart from "March" which is understandable. Is there an expected date where we can see more specific information about the content and changes coming in the patch, prior to its release? We know it's going to contain a warzone, etc, but more specifics about that Warzone must be known by now, along with specifics about what other content we can expect.
  6. Canderous Ordo is full again tonight Yay.
  7. Any way you slice it, this is the type of quest you'll see in games. Yes WoW has "bombing runs" if you can really call them that. There were maybe 2-3 of those, and they were just you clicking a single button throwing bombs down to...you guessed it...kill x amount of mobs. This is part of the genre. The improvements in swtor are giving you CONTEXT to doing these tasks. They do that well with the voice acting and cut scenes and each planet having its own arching storyline along with your class quest, however space barring through the quest texts takes away from this.
  8. i7 950 radeon 6850HD 8GB DDR3 My FPS is steady over 60 on ilum, in warzones, anywhere, doesn't matter. I don't see any issues. Solution: Purchase the same specs I have.
  9. He's referencing star wars galaxies, a really really bad game.
  10. People play less during the week, and more on the weekend. Certainly there are plenty of people playing this game still. More when 1.2 drops. I know several people who are going to re-sub when that comes.
  11. This doesn't make any sense. Star Wars is the entire game. The planets, characters, classes, story, etc. that's all star wars. If it wasn't star wars, what would it be? It'd be some other game entirely. So why ask "if it wasn't star wars would you be playing it?" It wouldn't exist if it wasn't star wars. That's like saying, would you drink Lemonade if it wasn't lemonade? I don't know? What the hell?
  12. I felt this way with World of Warcraft right around the time I unsubbed. I don't feel this way with SWTOR, though.
  13. I enjoy SWTOR, and I've even enjoyed the speed at which bioware has released large bug fixing patches, it's appreciated and why I'm still here really. I also like the new Q&A panel they have every friday. I think it's an awesome idea. That being said, some of the answers are extremely vague, and about as bad as not answering at all, if not worse. 1.2 is supposed to be out next month, so potentially a couple weeks from now, and we know honestly very little about it except broad strokes. I don't think that's good business. I'll stick around until 1.2 comes out because I really have faith in that patch being a really big step in the right direction, but we are all only human, and can only blindly toss our money at you for so long!
  14. Only one of their specs is melee actually. Perhaps you ought to learn2play yourself, before trying to tell others to
  15. Ugh. This is such a moot argument. IT doesn't MATTER. You can watch NFL for 4 years but you're not going to be a star quarterback just from watching. Both games had 5 years of development, and added appropriate amounts of content and features to reflect that. Some things differ, as they made different choices, but the fact that WoW came out in 2005 or whatever doesn't matter. Because WoW came out with all these features post launch, doesn't mean it takes any other company any less time to add that content into their game. Be logical here. Programming takes time. Let me give you an analogy. Somebody puts together a 10,000 piece puzzle, and you watch them put it together, takes them say, 5 years to do it. You decide to do your own 10,000 piece puzzle, feeling confident that you can do it. Why should it take you any less time than them? While you're putting yours together they add a bunch of pieces to theirs too. Should you also be expected to have those added pieces on yours, in the same amount of time it took them to finish the 10,000 piece one? No. Shut up with that argument.
  16. What you're probably noticing is that your healers who stacked Surge are healing for a ton less, so it *appears* that he is taking more damage.
  17. I'll stay subbed until I stop playing. For now, I play every day still. Hoping 1.2 information comes soon though, because I'm definitely playing less. I love the game, but most of my friends have quit and I can't level alts forever!
  18. So not only are you wasting your money on a product you don't enjoy, but also your time. Sounds like you should try getting a GED or something instead. If YOU don't care, then why do YOU post? If bioware in 6 months manages to make this game exactly the way you like it, will you re-sub?
  19. Going to go ahead and quote myself here. Can't re-iterate enough that the amount of content is not the issue, it's the itemization, and perhaps difficulty that needs tweaking.
  20. I think the issue is not with the content but rather the loot progression, which was made fairly simple. I think there should be epic level 50 loot, that ISNT tionese stuff, that drops from hard mode flashpoints, and the end bosses from hard mode flashpoints should drop a tionese token or whatever, and NO columi gear or tokens should be achieved through hard mode flashpoints at all. Then, normal Operations can drop Tionese gear, with the final boss dropping a random piece or two of columi gear, in both operations. Then, hard mode operations drop Columi gear, with Rakata gear (piece or two) off the final bosses, Nightmare dropping Rakata gear, with some really awesome, higher than Rakata weapons or drops off the bosses. Next, make 8 man bosses drop one or two pieces MAX. double it for 16. Make the 16 man operations a little easier, more in line with just being 8 man difficulty but for twice the number of players. Finally, tweak the stats on Tionese, Columi, and Rakata gear so that they are all slightly better than they are now, and lower how good the pvp gear is, but beef up the expertise on it to compensate, and stop people from using it in PvE. In my opinion, this would fix most of the issues. People would take longer to gear up, and would have more of a goal and desire to farm up to Nightmare modes as well. The amount of content doesn't appear to be an issue to me. Honestly, two relevant raids is more than you could say for World of Warcraft right now, but they offer more of a challenge (albeit very slight) gearing up, which is all swtor needs to do. I still love and will play the game, because I'm content with alts, but itemization is the main issue, not the amount of content.
  21. Having leveled both sides myself, I found republic to be more enjoyable. This completely negates your post.
  22. Suit yourself. You don't actually know that without trying it out though.
  23. When I levelled my merc BH on empire, I'd say no, it doesn't. However, now that I'm levelling a Sage, I think the republic side feels way more like star wars than empire. It's just far more familiar. A lot of the music, the story and the way things are handled, it's very star warsy in my opinion.
