  1. Guess we'll have to wait for Titan to be released. I'm sure when Blizzard releases Titan it won't have all the things that have evolved since 2004. Right.... Any of you played Rift? Rift had a shorter development cycle than TOR for less money--yet Rift conforms to many of the norms established in the 8 years since WOW. Weird.
  2. Maybe someone should point out there were 5 end game raids in WOW at release: Molten Core, Onyxia, Strat, Scholo, and UBRS. The difficulty on Molten Core was such that it took most groups 3+ months to clear. Blizzard at least knew end game was important. But I'm done complaining and after the 21st, won't be posting on these boards anymore. Edit: Meant UBRS--not LBRS
  3. So wait--TOR is more difficult than WOW? Interesting... So far TOR has been pretty darn easy.
  4. Of the seven people I know that pre-ordered. Only one will be playing past 1/21... These folks are all experienced MMO players and just felt that TOR didn't quite meet their expectations. Still too much needing to be polished. The lone hold out plans to support BW with subscription dollars while the game gets finished but doesn't think they will play much. Who knows what the masses will do, but something tells me TOR will be emptier in the coming months. On the brightside--at least the forums should become a little more upbeat.
  5. Hmmm--me thinks you do not run any temperature monitoring on your GPU or CPU--otherwise you would know this is probably the "hottest" issue. Not only does the engine slow down when you get more than 10 folks on the screen, but your video card temp goes through the roof. I'm seeing temperatures about 10degree Celsius warmer than other games like BF3 or Crysis 2 with an Asus GTX 560 Ti.
  6. Taroen--on what server do you play? What is your character's name? Maybe we can run a few instances!
  7. This forum bickering back and forth simply doesn't work. If you feel the game needs damage meters, or an LFG tool, or addons, or whatever else is lacking--vote with your wallet. When you unsubscribe from the game you'll be give a brief poll asking what your reason was along with a small text box to leave a note. Whether anyone at BW ever reads them--that is an story. For me personally, I listed my reason for unsubscribing as "Did not meet my expectations". In the text box I listed my top three reasons why I can't keep paying $15 a month. As the game stands now, damage meters really aren't needed. The content is so easy to beat, no one really needs to perform at their best. So while I am one that would like to have a combat log/damage meters so I can personally know what works best and what doesn't. I'd also like to have content that is challenging. Since neither is in the game--I'll be on the forums until the 21st--at which point--best of luck to those remaining. Hope TOR stays the game you love.
  8. If you have dual screens--run a few temperature monitors. TOR runs considerably hotter than other games. Why this game runs 10 degrees (Celsius) hotter than BF3 of Cyrsis 2 is beyond my pay scale. Bad enough the game is missing so much. If I have to spend $250 on a new video card because this one fries, I'm going to get pretty upset. I've been logging my temperatures for the last few days just in case...
  9. Too bad there isn't a way to make bets on the internet. I'd bet money that the 1st week North American sales for the next WoW expansion top the 1st week world wide sales for TOR. The community in WOW has gotten fantastic recently. All the emo carebears left the game to go play some new space MMO. Go figure...
  10. I have taken the advice of anti-LFG tool folks in this thread. You have convinced me that TOR will never meet my expectations. If I am going to pay $15 a month, I'd like to running instances and such--not spamming chat. So add me to the ranks of folks that will off the forums and out of TOR on 1/21. Best of luck to those that remain--hope TOR remains the game you love.
  11. Wait until you get the class quest point where all you do is travel to random planet, run to a random corner of the map, get back on your ship--repeat somewhere else, then get back on your ship and go right back to the first place. 5 minutes of action and 40 minutes of load screens--running through a carbon copy space port...
  12. Folks arguing about WoW's LFG tool do know the tool first tries to build the group out of players all on the server, right? Cross server only comes into play if you are on an underpopulated server. Works fairly well. 80% of the random groups I'm in tend to all be same server folks. But I'm still not sure how cross server versus same server matters for community. I couldn't tell you the names of any of the same server folks I've been randomly grouped with--hard enough to remember my guild mates... To be kicked you have to be pretty bad, pretty abnoxious, or go AFK for an extended period--doesn't matter the server. And by pretty bad, not just lower DPS than the tank--doing stupid stuff that wipes the group kind of bad.
  13. Hopefully BW will look at the game metrics and determine if an LFG tool is needed. ie.If 90% of the players are running 50% of the instances, then there probably isn't a need for an LFG tool. On the other hand, if only 10% of the players are running 25% of the Flashpoints--then it would seem the team should either create an LFG or spend their time developing content that the majority of players will be able to enjoy.
  14. The original post was on the 5th. No patch on the 10th. And yes there do seem to be some heat issues. With dual monitors, it is a little easier for me to monitor GPU and CPU temps while playing. Using RealTemp and GPU-Z, TOR seems to run about 10degrees Celsius hotter than games you would think would run hotter. i.e. BF3 and Crysis 2 run around 62degrees, versus 72degrees for TOR. (CPU temp tends to be about 4 to 5 degrees lower than the GPU.)
  15. You may be able to leave planets early, but not so sure about skipping planets. Which planets can you skip? Your class quests will require a visit to each planet--in order. Empire side gives you two class quests after the starting area. Skip Balmorra and head right to Nar Shaddawhatever and let me know how it works out for you.... Talk to me when you are on your third trip to 50. Sure you can run space missions and get a 1/4 of a level. But there aren't enough space missions to level. And if there were, you'd have no gear for doing other quests. PVP queues take forever on the Empire side--it would take months to grind out 30 levels.
  16. I'm going to guess you haven't tried to level an alt, yet? TOR is linear. After your starting planet, every character is going to take the exact same path to 50. Only the class quest line will vary. You will visit the planets in the same order, every time-running the same quests. The second time is pretty boring. The third and forth time you are going to be brain dead or medicated to not beat your head on the desk out of boredom.
  17. Finally a decent counter argument! And one that I agree with. TOR in its current state is such a cakewalk, that meters truly aren't needed. Its a shame TOR doesn't offer more challenges. I remember Molten Core in WoW. Took four months to finally defeat Ragnaros in the old 40 man days. Compare this to the six hours it took to clear EV. (Don't even want to talk about the difference in gear level--MC took a geared raid, EV just needs level 50s.)
  18. I do not support playing the game with simpletons that make me have to work harder to succeed because they have no idea what works and doesn't work.
  19. Yes, WOW has died a miserable death at the hands of TOR!! All hail the new king of MMO's.
  20. Umm--you downloaded the weapons and armor when you install the game or a content patch.
  21. Why do I suspect the people that think damage meters are only for bragging are the ones that perform the worst? I rarely see meters used for bragging--but I do see them used a lot to point out lousy players....
  22. Using weapons and armor to help you beat the game is lame. Doesn't that sound silly? You do realize that if the developers create an open interface, then addons are part of the game. True the addons are an advanced segment of game play and not all gamers will understand their benefits. But the good news, just like Flashpoints and Heroic 4 quests--you are not forced as a gamer to participate.
  23. I think you have illustrated why some of combat logging is needed. Might want to review the posts and check your counting. But the bright side comes in 11 days. The forums and the game itself will turn into one carebear fest. TOR has failed to meet the expectations of many players, most of which will be gone on the 21st. After the record breaking drop in subscriptions happens, the TOR community will truely have a majority of people that don't want any of the modern trappings players have come to expect after playing other MMO's.
  24. And you know this because you are on the development team? Or do you just say that because no real skill is required to defeat any of the encounters?
  25. Right now the only way to measure your performance is with a stop watch and groups of similar mobs. Haven't had to play that way since the 90's.... Why does using recount=bragging rights? I like to use recount to monitor my own healing and damage. If you are significantly different from the group, that is great indication you are doing something wrong. Personally, I would like to know what play strategies give me the best results. Playing any other way is no different from randomly hitting keys. Without recount I can't tell if I do more DPS when I hit keys or when the cat walks across the keyboard.
