  1. Is it really just one guy putting out that damage every match, or is it a pre-made putting out that damage every WZ? The numbers listed under a single persons name on the scoreboard mean so very little, and I wish they would remove the scoreboard all together, or at least only track Objectives and Medals. You are being beat by a team of players with a strategy of keeping their best DPS player alive and in the fight as much as possible.
  2. You bought that WoW dev BS apparently. Devs are quick to blame players for exploiting weaknesses in the systems that they design their games around. In reality it is either weak and/or lazy design that leads to a system being capable of being abused. Rather then develop the systems to be robust and interactive, they are quarantined and and players lack that additional investment into their character. As a result a large majority of players have no idea how their stats contribute to their characters success in a particular encounter. This is one of the reasons that you see so many bad players out there, everything is simply provided to them and they think that is the way it is supposed to be. They put no effort into making their character anything more than what is given to them and they really don't understand how their class works, much less classes they might be competing against. Next thing you know you have a forum full of whining players, complaining about things that they don't even understand.
  3. Because these companies will homogenize and simplify the genre until there are no choices left to make for your character, only the illusion of choice will be present as you are guided safely from one area of play to the next. Most MMOs have removed stat point distribution, now Blizz is starting to either simplify (WoW) or completely do away with (D3) talent trees. Expect the mindless MMO companies to follow suit. It's the path that these games are taking in the name of accessibility and ease of use that is utterly destroying the genre. They'll call it "broadening the audience" or something equally idiotic and all it does is hurt the game. Sure they bring in extra initial revenue from these players on release, but ultimately the MMORPG genre is not for them and they end up leaving rather quickly (see 400k subs lost in the first quarter - almost as bad as WAR). In response to the mass exodus the company makes poor decisions that not only do nothing to retain the non-MMO crowd, they drive away the core MMO audience as well (see most of 1.2). Population decline snowballs out of control, the community at large declares the game "dead" and the inexorable march toward another F2P failure continues. These companies need to remember their core audience if they want to create a lasting legacy product. Unfortunately the current atmosphere in the industry is more about the bottom line then it is the gameplay experience. They already covered their development costs and turned a decent profit on initial box sales, any continued revenue is just icing in EAs eyes. EDIT: And for the old argument of "they want to make sure that people don't end up gimping themselves" - decisions are supposed to have consequences, especially in games! If they were that worried about it they could have a "Spend My Stat Point For Me" option to enable - or make stat respecs available. Getting the player more involved and interested in their character and the mechanics of the stats and talents is desired MMO player behavior!
  4. I play on The Fatman and population is clearly down on the server. Pre 1.2 we had night queue times of 30+ minutes for a good 6 hour stretch. Now you might see it reach Very Heavy for a short time during prime time. The server still has a large population mind you, it just isn't anywhere near as populated as it was ~4 weeks ago. 1.2 drove a ton of people out of the game completely, I'm still boggled that people are kind of ignoring that.
  5. We're playing MMOs, that guy you are talking to is just as socially awkward despite how confident they may seem.
  6. If you see other good players that you want to group with then engage them in conversation and ask about grouping together. Waiting for recognition is just wasting your time, show the initiative and drive in game to connect with other good pvp'ers and you'll quickly be in the ranks.
  7. Anybody who tells you they are the top of their AC is as full of themselves as they are of cow dung. The best PVP'ers let their play speak for itself.
  8. The daily wasn't a grind, the real grind is the outrageous cost of WH gear without any other way to earn Ranked Comms. The more they homogenize pvp the more people leave, that is not a coincidence.
  9. A ton easier and it encourages less competition and gives incentive to lose fast. Maybe less WZ quitting this way, pretty soon the daily will be to "queue for a WZ 3 times" and eventually "log in that day".
  10. Hell I don't care how it turns out, I'll play it regardless just to check it out. My hope is not the same as my expectation, though I understand your point. My main point was that as much as people like to say that all of these games are exactly the same old crap, they really do evolve in each generation - people just refuse to recognize the change in favor of pointing out what hasn't changed or claim that said changes aren't for the better. I am a true fan of the genre and accept each game for what it is.
  11. It had potential to be a great game, there is a difference. It came no where near its potential and was a failure on par with Horizons (if anyone even remembers that one). The chances of ever seeing a skill based and/or sandbox mainstream mmo again are extremely slim. Though TES Online looks like it might shape up to be DAoC 2, with Mark Frior at the helm and 3 faction pvp. If they can pull the best elements of both sides of the genre they will have my money. Edited for esses!
  12. I've never enjoyed the RTS genre, perhaps they'd let me write on that... Thanks! I'm happy to bring a smile into your day!
  13. I don't knock F2P, the model totally saved Turbine's games. There is a stigma of failure about going from P2P to F2P though and the population would go through a huge change.
  14. Looks like I'll only be playing alts until this gets fixed.
  15. If an MMO could truly capture that spirit it would be one of the best selling games of all time. Also, any person that wants to get rid of an entire genre of games that millions of players enjoy just because he doesn't enjoy playing them is ego-maniacal in a way that is even hard to grasp. What's his next article - "Why we should change all RTS games into FPS"?
  16. Happy to help! The author did make me laugh with this: "Everquest killed my X-Wing clan!!! WAAAAAAAH!" lol
  17. No need to read any further than that, and Vanguard was a terrible game.
  18. Can't test a thing when they choose not to even put anything on the PTS in 4+ weeks. It's no wonder people are leaving in droves, they can't get through a simple maintenance update without breaking something new.
  19. They recognize that the game is a failure and are downplaying the declining subscription numbers. A great big pile of CVA.
  20. A great way to stimulate some economic interaction and help players get together to trade would be to allow puchase orders on the auction house. You should be able to set the items you are looking for, the quantity you need and the price you are willing to pay. A fee would be required per posting to ensure that the GTN is not over run with ppl hoping to purchase items at 1 credit per. This would allow gatherers easy access to willing buyers with out having to undercut competing prices and also a way for buyers to get some great deals on crafting supplies and crafted goods.
  21. I feel as if we, as a community, are fairly well aware of the communication options available to us. What we are saying is that we are not receiving enough "meat" in the information contained therein. There is a growing consensus that there are several glaring problems in the game that need to be addressed and Bioware is "seemingly" unwilling or unable to directly answer on these concerns. Even if it is just a "we will be updating the PTS in x weeks", or we will have information on when we will be updating the PTS. It really feels as if dev interaction has significantly decreased since patch 1.2 went live.
  22. For me it was cool for the first half of my first play through, after that it just became cumbersome and time consuming. Even when playing a new class I barely listen to the voice work, I read the subtitles, get the gist of the quest and press-on.
  23. It's no surprise that PVP servers are drying up faster than a tanaholic in the desert. They have effectively killed PVP in this game: Little to no open world PVP. Ilum completely abandoned with vague comments about it coming back in a future patch. Zero incentive to go out and start some PVP anywhere. So the only available PVP content is WZs, which have their own set of problems: 4 map types repeated over and over again, no way to choose which one you want to play. No deserter debuff, most matches are pretty much determined by which side has the fewest quitters. No competitive PVP elements. Still no time table for Ranked WZs. This leads to the next problem: War Hero gear progression is a terrible grind in the current MMO climate. Adding that grind to the current dearth of quality PVP content is what killed PVP servers in SWTOR. If past MMO experience tells me anything, once you lose a customer the chances of getting them back are very slim. More so when you have a new selection of competing titles just about to release. I really enjoy this game and hope that Bioware can at least stop the bleeding, if not right the ship.
  24. I have 160+ days remaining on my subscription and decided today to put my account into cancellation status. Here's the statement that I provided when I cancelled: "I have three level 50 characters, soon to be a fourth, split between the factions. I'm paid up until October, and will continue to play from time to time. Hopefully the game will improve to a point where I feel it is worth it to continue my subscription. Current problems: No world pvp options. Seriously, it is simply non existent and there is zero incentive to start any. Completely removing Ilum from the PVP options of advancement is one of the worst decisions I have seen in any MMO over the last two decades. PVP War Hero gear progression is a terrible grind. With no ranked "War Zones" - which are more like "whichever team doesn't have as many quitters will win zones" - the amount of times that you have to replay the same four games over and over again ad nauseum is staggering, and quickly kills any enjoyment of the quality PVP experience that SWTOR offers. Call it too much of a good thing, or having no other options if you are a PVP focused player. Content development appears to be slowing, inexplicably. It's been almost 4 weeks since 1.2 deployed - without everything that it was supposed to have at that - and there has been no update, official dev post or update to the PTS in this time. This is simply unacceptable in our current MMO day and age. If you fail to provide content in a timely manner, the subscription numbers will continue to decline. Population is dropping at an alarming rate. I've already had to start all over on a more populated server once, so I have two level 50 characters gathering dust on a desolate server, and as I finish leveling my second character on my new server I see the same steady decline of players - which has been rapidly accelerated by the less than popular 1.2 patch. Yet we are informed by a senior developer that character transfers will not be available until "early summer" and there hasn't been any information on server mergers. This is having a snowball effect on population, with less people logging in to play each and every day. This is all combining to make for one of the shortest and least enjoyable MMO experiences that I have had to date. I hope that Bioware can right the ship soon, I was looking forward to playing for several years." It's almost 5 months since release, nothing they have done in that time has helped to retain me. I hope that the next 5 months that they improve. I feel like the game has a ton of potential but is suffering from poor execution on the things it does well and questionable development decisions in several areas.
  25. Keep in mind that many PVE'rs have moved to Fatman because it is the most populated server. Many people don't care what "type" of server they are playing on, they just don't want to play on a ghost town.
