  1. That is what i cant seem to figure out without letting the dots fall or clipping sos so that i can ensure i use cull on cd.

Well as someone else said your Actions Per Minute is simply too low. You should be clicking stuff faster (without clipping them). Once you do that fast enough I'm pretty sure the rest will solve itself.

  2. Went ahead and posted a quick dummy parse before bed. Ill try to upload a legit raid one when i can.

    http://parsely.io/parser/view/64802

Im sure it could be better, i know i have a really bad tendency of reapplying dots early... force of habit really, i usually panic when i see the dots about to fall which i am sure is giving me a huge drop in dps. -any improvement tips shoot em my way.

Under the Ability Usage tab you can see the time difference between each time you use a skill.

Weakning Blast has a cooldown of 18 seconds, Cull a cooldown of 9 seconds, and they are extremely important skills in your rotation in terms of firing whenever they go off cooldown (though ofc not if you dont have both Corro Dart and Corro Grenade on target)

The "Max time" for Cull is 15 seconds and for Weakening Blast is 26 seconds in your parse. That's simply too slow.

Lastly, you didn't use Rifle Shot even once?

  3. I know there are quite a few typos in the game, but I would take the tooltip at face value for this, not just what one might think would be how it should work(ignoring the whole f/t reduction being ignored by spec passives and stacking buffs ) due to the passive it's tied to. If it was specifically linked to cover it would say "...by 75% while it is active and you are in cover." If it was meant to be like oh, you only get 50% reduction while out of cover and 75% while in cover, it would say it. But I can attest to running into brontes orbs at a pretty low stack amount with Evasion up and barely taking damage before, and I personally think Evasion shouldn't limit its extra force/tech reduction to cover only, especially with the new 4.0 mobility shift anyway. I know one of the devs made a comment about only getting the reduction while in cover during the Sniper 3.0 preview stream. That dev also made a comment about not knowing that Orbital Strike required cover and plenty of things changed from those streams to what dropped on Live. So I wouldn't take that word as gospel either...The main reason it is linked to Hold Position is because it's a Sniper passive that you gain at level 10, the same as when you get Evasion, not cause you need to be in cover for all or part of its effects to take place.

If you really want to take the tooltip at face value then do so. The very first part of the tool tip is "While in cover, ....".

There's a reason the Evasion addition is in the Hold Position passive and not in another passive or a passive of its own.

  4. That is not intended. Hold Position only says "reduces the damage you take from Force and tech attacks by 75% while it is active." It does not say anything about needing to be in cover for the Force/tech resistance to take effect.

The tooltip is not very well written and Pherdnut is correct. Everything in the Hold Position passive is tied to being in cover.

  5. In terms of population you won't find better than The Red Eclipse on the EU servers, all other serves have fewer players. Next biggest ones are T3-M4 (German) and The Progenitor (RP).

If you start on a new server everything except Collections and unlocks specifically marked Accout unlocks will no longer be available. However, if you transfer a character from your current server to your new server it'll be as Icestar described above.

Therefore I'd recommend transferring a character to the new server you want to play on (you can transfer it back 72 hours later if I remember correctly) so you get all the legacy unlocks etc. You can also load that character with credits, items etc so you can use them on your new characters if you wish.

  6. Wouldn't getting 7 days sub on f2p automatically make you preferred? And that is probably why it won't work?

If the 7 days sub is only given to preferred (and F2P would get the same Jumpstart Bundle that new players get) it shouldn't be a problem.

  7. You're the one that can't read a sig. His bright colors are not colorful and bright enough for you?

Go PvE more, it's so exciting!

Oh I can read his sig but his sig is 100% irrelevant when it's not his thread. It's OP asking for tips on spec, not him.

It's not realistic to look up someone's post history every time you make a post. The fact there are not many playing my spec anymore in pvp makes it even more important that the value of the engineering/saboteur AOE is mentioned, especially when the op doesn't make it clear which one he's interested in. If he is indeed interested in pve then lovely he now has both sides and is more informed than he would have been.

Except you're using more time posting rubbish than it'd take to skim the titles of his last 5-10 posts.

If he wants value in PvP then point him towards a Sorc/Sage ;)

  8. Which is a double edged sword, he cannot get better performance without sacrificing power savings.

Definitely but it's a laptop meant for travelling I'd guess OP wants something lighter even if it means lower game settings.

    What is your budget?

My main work laptop is actually this exact model:

    http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/acer-v-nitro-black-edition-17-3-laptop-black-10104799-pdt.html

I can confirm it plays SWTOR at high detail settings nicely. There is a slightly newer model with the 960M instead of the 860M, and 100 mhz faster CPU, but you wouldn't notice the difference and it'll cost more.

On the plus side, that machine has a real SSD, it boots in under 5 seconds to a working Windows desktop running Windows 10.

Of course, it is more expensive and bigger and heavier and if you travel a lot, will be a thing to lug. Battery life also isn't that great, but the screen is beautiful!

I'm not the one buying a laptop :p

  9. I dont know if this even possible but what would people think to some kind of multiplyer being applied to conquest points so for instance:

    - guild 1 has 500 members (ie guild limit) so it gets no multiplyer

    - guild 2 has only 100 members so it gets a 5x multiplyer

this was the size of the guild does not matter only the % of guild members who take part affect the leaderboard.

The problem with this setup is that a dozen no-lifers in one guild would be able to beat a 500 member guild severely. There simply has to be an advantage to being 500 members simply because getting (and keeping) 300-500 active members takes more effort than having 10-100.

I'd like to see Objectives that give the same amount of points to Guild score regardless of how many players participate. E.g. "Killing a Commander" could give 20k-50k to the guild score regardless of whether you do it with 4 players or 24.

  10. You just have to shop around and see what the best deals are depending on your budget, if you can stretch to £800 I'd suggest getting something like this:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-Prestige-notebook-i5-4210H-GTX960M/dp/B00YC5578O/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1441970573&sr=8-3&keywords=gtx+960m

I'm not sure a 17.3 inch laptop is that suitable if OP is travelling a lot as he says.

Like I've already said, yes. It's mainly for work and film/music. I also travel a lot internationally, so there's that.

I'd also disagree against getting the 960M, again considering it's for mobility. 960M has about 50-75 watt TDP which requires a fair bit of cooling, which again means a bulky laptop and/or a lot of noise.

  11. Chill a bit, while you made it clear in your op that gaming was not your no.1 priority it wasn't obvious that a laptop would be your only option.

Of the two systems you linked the HP with the i3 would probably be better suited for SWTOR, but if you have some extra money to spend I would suggest to at least consider a model with an extra graphic card. CPU integrated GPUs aren't all that great for gaming. Skimming through the site you originally linked something like http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/hp-envy-15-ae065sa-15-6-laptop-silver-10132863-pdt.html probably would do the trick.

I don't think it'll make much of a difference in terms of FPS. The 940M is vastly faster but the laptop also uses a higher resolution (1080p where the other laptops are 720p) so the FPS will be about the same I think. You could probably run the 940M in a lower resolution but that rarely looks good.

  12. And we have a bingo :)

Sometimes a dude just needs to have a bit of fun! Besides, my sig does kind of make it obvious imho.

I could of course turn your argument around and say for pve'rs to say marksman has insanely good aoe could be very misleading for those new snipers who go into pvp.

In truth being in a rather jovial mood at the moment that comment he made about marksman has insanely good aoe (admittedly referring to burst only) struck my funny bone given my perspective :)

As much as I'm not really surprised a PvP'er can't look beyond his own little PvP minority world, there's not a lot pointing towards OP talking about PvP.

With a quick look at OPs latest posts you'd see zero mentions of PvP but instead mentions of soloing, Operations and PvE guild. Therefore there's not really any reason to talk about PvP when OP is not specifically mentioning it.

  13. You need to think outside the box, burst is also known as damage and as I said....Damage isn't and has never been everything.

Or you need to review how good Suppresive Fire is under the right circumstances rather than repeatedly showing how clueless you are.

Burst damage is also damage but the circumstances are different.

Burst damage usually has a window where you want as much damage as possible (e.g. to make sure adds die before they finish a cast) and at that point more burst damage is pretty much always better.

The faster you can take out the turrets@Torque or underlings@Underlurker, the less damage your tank/raid will be taking.

That kind of burst is available in Marksmanship with Sniper Volley.

  14. MM has insanely good AoE but only in bursts. The combo is to use Sniper Volley (and possibly Penetrating Blasts) before spamming Suppressive Fire. Sniper Volleys alacrity bonus gives you great burst and the extra energy regen makes sure spamming SF won't kill your energy.

For sustained AoE it's either Engineering or Virulence, though Virulence is mainly for when you can spread your DoTs to at least 4-5 target and use the 2 energy per DoT crit to keep having energy for Suppressive Fire spam.
