  1. Xalek makes me rage. He isn't really one-dimensional, but I would prefer that if he was a proper apprentice. His concern for his family was downright dis-heartening. I was looking forward to having him as my apprentice for the whole game, then he comes to me and says, "Can I go take time out from training, weakening myself, so I can do something for someone who is already dead, that I won't benefit from in any way?" I wanted to cry. I felt very hurt and betrayed.
  2. Aside from the rather crude joke, you actually kind of hit on a good point. One thing Thana could serve as, is a focusing point for Jaesa's rage. Force Jaesa to compete for and hold her position as your apprentice. Showing favor to one where the other can see it, preferably via eavesdropping, would be a great motivator.
  3. Thana Vesh is all anger and no insight. I wouldn't take a Jedi padawan who was completely at peace, but also came with a total lack of self-awareness.
  4. Sounds like a bug. That out of the way, I bet she still pales in comparison to that one girl who knelt in front of Vader at Disney-whatever. Unless that was your sister, in which case I would strongly consider sleeping with one eye open and a weapon under my pillow.
  5. With all of the responses like this, I must play on the worst server in the game or something. Empire vastly outnumbers Republic on my server as well, but when I go and play my Republic alt, the community is actually a lot worse. I remember first getting to Tython, and typing in general, "Wow, Tython really is a beautiful planet." In about a second, someone managed to type out, "Take the dick out of your mouth you troll ****." It was worse than Dromund Kaas general chat.
  6. Yeah, how dare they expect basic human decency out of you! Why, they should be slapped in irons and lashed publicly. I bet you snarl at people when they ask you for the time of day too.
  7. Well, now we know how the Jedi got their hands on Book of Sith: Secrets of the Dark Side. I was wondering how Yoda and Windu acquired that and held onto it long enough to write notes in it. Really, I thought that book was to be the source of that knowledge, apperantly the source of that knowledge was also likely the thing that brought that book into the Order.
  8. Examples of quality technical writing, and good stories: New Jedi Order 13: Traitor: New Jedi Order 19: The Unifying Force Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor Clone Wars book 2: Shatterpoint Average writing and good stories: Thrawn trilogy, and pretty much anything written by Timothy Zhan. I Jedi. The Courtship of Princess Leia Revan Novel Darth Bane: Path of Destruction Below average writing, but good stories: The other two Darth Bane books. Darth Maul Duology. New Jedi Order 9: Star by Star Fate of the Jedi Below average writing and below average story. Almost anything written by Karen Traviss and Troy Denning. Some of KT's Republic Commando novels are bearable, as is some of Troy Denning's work in Fate of the Jedi.
  9. It was getting really hard for me to believe that actual conversations were taking place when my characters kept giving the same pat-responses over and over again. After a while they really did start to sound like recorded messages.
  10. I did one better. I wrote my own for the Star Wars RPG and my friends play through it. That said, if the quality for a thing that I have purchased is low, I have a right to complain about it. If a restaraunt serves you a steak with mold on it, the patron sitting in the booth next to you should not react by saying, "If you don't like it, go cook your own steak," when the customer who was served the moldy steak makes a perfectly legitamite complaint.
  11. Because between all of Bioware's top-notch writing staff (and the exceptions that aren't so good) they literally could not think of anything better. Seriously, that is it. It just isn't viable at all. If Thanaton wasn't completely off his rocker, he would have just tried to assassinate you. For now, I am going with the idea that Thanaton was kept around because the Dark Council sees him as a running joke due to his activities back when he was still known as Teneb Kel.
  12. That is materialistic thinking though, which doesn't mesh with Sith philosophy. Someone who is a true disciple of the dark side, who really follows the spirit of Sith teachings, would absolutely butcher Quinn. Sparing him would be an act of mercy, and you do not show mercy on enemies, and Quinn made himself your enemy when he betrayed you. You might see it as a waste of resources, but are you really so weak that you might need Quinn for something at some point? If you are worried about what you are losing by killing Quinn, maybe you should look at becoming strong enough so you don't need to rely on him, or anyone else for that matter. That is how Sith operate.
  13. They are all over the place. While we didn't technically see it on screen, Dooku was skilled the art of dual-wielding. Anakin tried it. Mace does it spectacularly in Shatterpoint. Luke is seen dual-wielding numerous times in post-RotJ content. Kavar dual-wielded. Ventress did so as well. Then of course there is the actual Jar-Kai subform, which has its technical and philosophical roots in Niman. Oh, that reminds me, Exar Kun also dual-wielded, he also used a double-bladed lightsaber.
  14. It scares me a little that a group of people as large as Bioware's writing staff could pull off the mental gymnastics required to call something like that light side. Pretty much. The only way they intersect, is that Sith teaching basically amounts to, "follow the dark side," and Jedi teaching amounts to, "follow the light side." That is a ittle bit of an over-simplification that misses a few key points about both organizations, but it works for this purpose. The Sith, being the ruling body of the Empire, generally run the Empire to be dark-sided, and much of the Empire reflects that. The Republic is kind of their opposite, but not really, as the Jedi serve, rather than rule. While this creates an atmosphere in which the light can grow, it is not forced like the dark is in the Empire, so it doesn't grow as much as the dark side. Then again, it can't be forced anyway, so it wouldn't, by it's very nature, grow as much, anyway.
  15. Play the Imperial Agent story and then wait until you find out just how Darth Jadus is handling Imperial Intelligence. Well, ignoring their point system that they use in this game to measure the quality of a person's inner being (which I find to be laughably stupid) in the actual setting, what that guy is suggesting is still absolutely dark-sided. Just not as bad. Don't exagerate. They attempt to engage you in combat, to fight you to the death. They do not try to murder you in cold blood. That said, killing in Star Wars is dark-sided, period. No matter who is doing it, or the reason for the killing. I have yet to run into a Jedi that hurls insults, on any of my Sith characters. The Sith characters on the otherhand insulted the hell out of my Jedi character even when I was nice to them. Other Sith like her? Jaesa Wilsaam is a monster once you turn her. What exactly does she mean by, "like her?" Maybe some behave more or less honorably than others? Jedi are not supposed to try and see good in people. There are only three things Jedi are supposed to do, in order from greatest to least. Serve the Force, show loyalty to their fellow Jedi, and defend the Republic. That is what is known as their three loyalties. Again, bad writers who don't pay attention to the setting should not be allowed to touch Jedi.
  16. We are seeing the Jedi at their best. The vast majority of them behave like proper Jedi.
  17. Revanites aren't Sith. They aren't Jedi either. Revanites are Revanites. There are a couple less harsh NPCs on the Empire side, but they are hardly light-sided. They are all hate-filled, angry people who want nothing better than to hurt the ones who hurt them. That is not light-sided. There are no light-sided characters amongst the Empire's Force users. Yep. That is why there will be designated canon versions of the story paths for each class, and others that will fall into the realm of non-canon. That said, even though you are drawing closer to the light as a light side Sith, you are still a dark side Force user in the actual story, which means,by your very existence, you are a threat to the whole galaxy.
  18. Hardly, the Jedi NPCs that do show up when you play as Sith are horribly inaccurate prtrayals of what they are in the setting, and I highly doubt that the light side choices change that portrayal much. Besides, in Mace Windu's own words, Jedi are not creatures of morality. The entirity of the Sith empire is built on a doctrine of facism, prejudice, and racism. Since you have played a Sith character, I know you know this. Or you decided to ignore all the occurences of that kind of thing. The simple and obvious answer is that those Jedi do not match canon portrayals of what Jedi are. Which isn't surprising, considering that this wouldn't be the first time that writers that aren't Stover, Lucas, or Luceno managed to screw up Jedi, and the Force in general.
  19. In terms of technical quality and playability, absolutely, yes, by miles. In terms of community, well, the WoW community is a lot more bearable than this. I swear, something about online Star Wars communities, and RTS communities just brings out the worst in people.
  20. I feel pretty much the same. I still play LoL once a day for my win of the day, and to collect champions that I think are cool. Even in bot games though, I always find that one player that feels like it is their sacred duty to be the biggest ****** they possibly can. New World of Darkness is a tabletop roleplaying game, so you won't have to worry much about their online community unless you go to their forums.
  21. Hehe, yeah, know the feeling. Some guy even joined the guild I was in because I told him where to find his AC trainer.
  22. I more or less agree with this, but if you have the time to tell them where to look for future answers, you have the time to properly answer their current question. When someone asks me a question, I answer then question they actually ask, then I borderline harras them until I am convinced they have actually recorded TorHead's URL, and made notes to look in the codex, for future questions. Sorry, but just leaving it at, "look at "X" is not good for the community, and doesn't do anything to foster an atmosphere of mutual trust and cooperation. I see where you are going with this, problem is... I call bs. No one in Warzones knows what they are doing, anywhere, at any time, ever. Obviously I exagerate, but I do so to make a point. There are many, many, many people out there who have in total, been playing MMOs and pvping for 10 years or more, and the vast majority of them are complete idiots. I would like to note that I make no pre-judgments about anyone I meet in warzones or BGs and have on several occasions asked others in those environments for advice, and have several times recieved good advice. That doesn't change the fact that players who are truly quality players are a rarity, as anyone who has tried to put together a top-notch pvp premade or raid group can attest to. Unless you are on one of those servers that all of the world class players gravitate toward to. I mostly agree with all of this, just feel like it is worth noting that there is nothing wrong with at least hearing any strat out so you can check it for viability before dismissing it. No one likes being dismissed out of hand. When people do that to me in real life, I start plotting revenge. When it happens on the internet, I explain how dumb the person is, and generally try hard not to die from cardiac arrest due to massive BP increase. As someone who plays this game mainly for the solo aspect, in an attempt to enjoy the game without having to deal with those hooligans on the internet called "other people," I can actually agree with this. I stay out of warzones as much as possible in this game, and I do a lot of soloing and playing with real life friends, and prefer single-player games over multi-player. Tbh, if it was KotOR 3, instead of TOR, I wouldn't even be playing an MMO, or posting on this forum for that matter. The internet's main purpose is for connecting with people. If you don't like people, well, the internet probably will annoy you at some point. All that aside, SOPA and PIPA need to die and never come back. This isn't just about the internet, this gives big business the power to shut down anyone they please just by accusing them of something that they don't even have to be suspected of, let alone proven guilty.
  23. The OP is 100% right. While the general TOR community is not the worst on the internet, they are really bad, worse than I expected, and a lot worse than I had hoped. People who get irritated when people ask basic questions, as far as I am concerned, deserve to have their asses beat. We were all at one point unaware of one fact or another, and being a d-bag not only doesn't do anything helpful, it just serves to further fragment the community, all because people want to elevate themselves by bringing others down, and that is really what that kind of problematic behavior boils down to. I see that kind of thing happen all the time on Dromund Kaas general chat, and it really makes me sad just how much of the hate that is demonstrated, isn't RPed, but real. When I see things like, "You are a peice of **** nubcake, you need to uninstall and kill yourself right after you tell me where you live so I can go **** your sister," as a response to a simple question of, "where do I go to get my AC?" There is a problem. No, that was not made up or exagerated, that was a real example, and similar respones are quite common. On my server, Dromund Kaas general chat is generally regarded as the "Neo-Nazi lovechild of Barrens Chat and Trade Chat," by sane, relaxed players.
  24. While the LoL community is bad, technically even worse than the ONWOD community, having actually dealt extensively with self-absorbed New World of Darkness players in real life, I am seriously questioning my choice in real life friends. I have come really close to commiting aggravated assault over the last couple of days because of that community.
