  1. All WoW add-ons are developed by third parties, usually players, or groups of players. Blizzard doesn't make add-ons. Apparently, you weren't there when WoW launched.
  2. Part of the genre's appeal is that you're playing in a persistent world that feels alive. Think of them as alternate, virtual realities. My first MMO was Dark Age of Camelot. Back then, the punishment for death was an exponential loss of XP. As such, it took the average player about a year to reach 50, and most of that was spent grinding mobs because there weren't a lot of quests available. It took me a year and a half to level a Troll Shaman, and the closer I got, the more anxious I felt. We even had leveling events for everyone who made it to 49. Guilds would band together and help their guildies reach 50. The final ding was a momentous occasion for everyone who helped, because of how difficult it was to achieve. It would be great to have a single button for Vendor trash. That's one of the genre's staples, designed to prolong your in-game experience. That's what your Companions are for, while you're off having fun. MMO's never stop being improved on. That's the nature of the genre. Their appeal stems from the camaraderie of experiencing the same world with other players. I still remember the first time I logged into DAoC. Realizing the other characters I saw running around were actual players completely blew me away. I was instantly hooked, and didn't play another single-player game for 7 years.
  3. That is unfortunate. My understanding is that BW licensed a beta version of the HERO engine, with the expectation that their own programmers would be able to optimize it for the game. It appears that performance issues are something they continue struggling with. Source: HEROengine.com: The HERO Engine Meets Star Wars
  4. I experienced similar performance issues while on Tython, and I play with graphics set on Ultra. Unless BW has fixes coming with 3.0, the only suggestion that comes to mind is to tweak the game's graphics settings until you find a balance between performance and visual fidelity that you can enjoy. I would start by disabling Anti-Aliasing, follow that up with lowering the Character Draw Limit, and then maybe lower the Shadow quality. Adjust other settings as you feel necessary.
  5. 12 levels later, I'm still here, and I'm reasonably sure it's for good this time, because: * I'm stunned that the name I came up with was available, and it sounds really cool with my Legacy name: Lynnora Nyghtfall * Kari Wahlgren is a lot more fun to listen to than Mark Bazeley, or David Hayter. * Dual Lightsabers are hella more fun than one. * I love the look I created for her. * The highest level I've ever reached was 27, with a Sith Warrior. It's a lot less stressful, and much more gratifying, playing a Light Side Jedi Knight than trying to decide how much of a Dark Side Sith Warrior to play. Since the expansion's right around the corner, I'm going to wait until it launches before I start speccing her and continue playing.
  6. Yup, at least my timing worked out well enough on that point. Indeed.
  7. That's unfortunate. D'oh! Right. Thanks. I've corrected my original post, and my sig.
  8. With the new Star Wars sequel coming out next year, I know I'm going to renew anyway. Seeing Big Hero 6 Tuesday night wound up reinforcing my fondness for laser swords, so I decided to renew now. I've lost count of the number of times I've quit and re-joined. Sometimes, I've quit less than 24 hours after re-joining. My wife doesn't know what to do with me anymore. I started with early access in 2011, and have never reached max level with any character. Maybe this time I'll finally maintain interest long enough to do so. I'm hoping the new Disciplines coming with 3.0 will help. They sound promising. After spending nearly an hour coming up with a name that wasn't taken, I finally managed to roll a new Jedi Knight named Lynnora, on The Ebon Hawk. She's going to be a Sentinal. Is the 12x XP optional? I'm not going to pre-order the expansion if I'm going to be forced to out-level my gear at every turn.
  9. YouTube videos only show dialogue choices made by the players who posted them. The OP wants to replay his character's' cutscenes.
  10. Fair point. Thanks. I truly hope I do, too.
  11. Thank you. I'll check it out asap. Thanks. You, too. Nope, not at all.
  12. When I learned about TOR in 2011, I could not have been more excited. I saw SW in theaters in 1977 when I was 6. I've fantasized about being a Jedi Knight or Sith Lord ever since. I bought the CE and thoroughly enjoyed early access. When key developers left BioWare in 2012, my confidence in the game's success and longevity was shot, so I left. I've tried coming back a couple times since, only to wind up canceling again because I didn't feel comfortable supporting a game I didn't believe would last long. I'm not a fan of the free-to-play model, preferring instead to enjoy the perks of being a subscriber. Today, it's become clear to me TOR isn't going anywhere. After reading and watching about what's in store for 2014 and beyond, I feel excited again, and am eager to rejoin the community. I celebrated April 1st by reinstalling the game a few hours ago, and signed up for my first month of full access. Here's to many years of helping defend the Republic and embracing The Dark Side. Thank you. May the Force be with you. EDIT: This is not an April Fool's joke.
  13. I can also vouch for FRAPS. I've owned and regularly use the registered version for a number of years now.
  14. Welcome back. Cartel Coins are a new form of virtual currency, and went live with the F2P option last November. They're designed to allow people to play freely while giving BW/EA a way to remain profitable by offering players various items to purchase with them. Coins can only be bought with real money, or earned with a paid subscription. As for what else has changed with the game, I would suggest you read the patch notes.
  15. Not the Cargo Bays, the character inventory. No idea, but knowing they're available feels good. It means less frequent visits to vendors when questing.
  16. Upon logging into my account Wednesday afternoon, I had 4200 cartel points waiting for me to spend, and was able to max out the inventory module for my entire account. No character I ever create will want for inventory space. Thanks, BW!
  17. - Registered with the site in October 2010 - Pre-ordered the CE mere minutes after availability - Started playing the game on day one of early access - Canceled my subscription last November - Renewed it Wednesday afternoon My new Jedi Knight is 11 now. He's my only character, and I am having so much more fun with him.
  18. Thank you. I'm having more fun with him already.
  19. I didn't. I often picked LS options. What was irritating was finding myself in situations where I had trouble deciding between LS and DS options. My ESC key was used a lot during those moments. I knew I wanted my character to be evil, I just couldn't decide how evil. Having DS-dependent gear I wanted to use wasn't helping, either. Speaking of which: http://www.cad-comic.com/cad/20111221
  20. Ladies and gentlemen, meet Kaethes, my new Jedi Knight. http://imageshack.us/a/img694/7460/kaethes.jpg See you in game!
  21. Hello, everyone. My name is Matthew Hutchinson, and I'm a Founder. I canceled my monthly subscription last October. Last year, after series of re-rolls and experimenting with different classes, I leveled a Sith Warrior to 27 before growing bored with the Empire and the constant headache of deciding just how evil I wanted my character to be. When I think back on all the TV shows I've watched, video games I've played, and books I've read, any time a bad guy shed his evil ways, he got to enjoy a lot more positive, eye-opening experiences. For example, if Teal'c hadn't turned against Apophus in Stargate: SG-1, he would've never gotten to meet the leader of the Tok'ra resistance he'd been tasked with hunting down and so often failed. If I hadn't chosen to save all the Little Sisters in Bioshock, I wouldn't have gotten to see the terrific ending 2K Games wrote for it. I've never played either game, but last night I watched the Light and Dark side endings for The Force Unleashed and its sequel on YouTube. I much preferred the Light side endings. I want to enjoy more of those positive experiences myself. Recently, the urge to roll a Jedi Knight and fight for The Republic became too strong to resist, so I renewed my subscription a few minutes ago and pre-ordered the new Hutt expansion. I'm eager to see what awaits me.
  22. I stopped playing SP games when DLC started becoming all the rage. TOR is the last MMO I'm going to give any opportunity to keep me entertained for any length of time. If it fails, I'm done with video games, period. I'm going to stick with books.
  23. I'm changing my reply because the last few people below me brought up an excellent point. The voice-overs are what makes TOR stand out from other MMO's, so, no, I would not give them up. I do, however, really wish they had had more options and quality-of-life features at launch.
  24. Two weeks ago, I canceled my membership for the first time since head start began last December. With the dwindling subscriber numbers, layoffs, senior staff departures, I simply lost interest in the game. A few days ago, I had a heart-to-heart with my wife, who also plays. She told me that, after sharing all the negative headlines with her, she's found herself losing interest as well, and she was still having fun. Feeling frustrated, she asked me not to share any bad press about whatever MMO we find to pay together next. Suffice it to say, I felt really bad for her, and upset with myself for letting the doom and gloom get to me. So, I renewed my membership last week, and rolled a new Sith Inquisitor. I'm focusing on my own enjoyment, the thrill of being Sith, and ignoring the bad press. You know something? I'm having a lot more fun now.
