The thing about time thievery is that a second here and a second there adds up to a whole lot of annoyance. Kinda like how the average web surfer makes up an opinion about your site in 1.5-3 seconds. If that time is spent in an arbitrary limbo (ie. loading), you and your site are screwed. Seconds. Fractions of them.
