  1. Shrug. you are probably right. The fact that I can't remember exactly where i got that impression highlights that. Regardless of what they actually said, a lot of people thought it would be "free", which leads this this (admittedly unreasonable) backlash.
  2. If I had to guess. A lot of the dissatisfaction stems from the initial expectation that Makeb would be "free". Understandably, things change, But I also felt a twinge of disappointment when I found out they are charging for Makaeb. Why should that be? Personally, it stems from an unconscious (and irrational) assumption that Makaeb WAS intended to be free content and subsequently converted into a paid expansion to turn a quick buck. The optimist in me is hoping that they ADDED some additional content to what was originally planned that would justify the pricing change - maybe in the form of new FP's, and OP or heck even some sandbox elements to keep people busy. I don't know, we'll just have to wait and see. But if they ARE adding something we have yet heard about, the marketing department is doing a pretty lackluster job of pumping us up for it. I know i know. Patience
  3. I sorta liked a majority of the planet arc quests. Sure they didn't directly deal with "me" and my character story, but I still felt invested in the outcomes. So I wouldn't be too bummed if Chapter 4 turned out to be more of the same. What would REALLY make Chapter 4 stand out is if they incorporated some branching story arcs based on player choices. Maybe give us a way to replay key decisions and see how those alternate endings turn out. But that's just (very) wishful thinking.
  4. In all likely hood i might be on a SWTOR hiatus by then but this would undoubtedly bring me back.
  5. Unfortunate, but probably true. It'll most likely be apart of a huge expansion around the two year anniversary mark. I had hoped / speculated that they'll make an official announcement soon but that's off the table now. If there's any consolation it's that it appears to be a pretty sizable project and not something that'll just be tacked on. Well. nothing to do but to wait now.
  6. I don't PvP much, but it's obvious that there is no such think as "threat" in PvP. How do tanks go about grabbing the attention of opposing players gunning for the objective or healers?
  7. For PvP, I suggest that attacks done while in a tanking stance apply movement penalty onto the target. I think this would be a suitable simulation of "Threat" and would give people much more reason to re-target an attacking tank. I'd imagine this would create more "holding the line" scenarios where tanks impede melee attackers from reaching objectives or getting in rage of healers and ranged DPS.
  8. I don't think completely abolishing the trinity system is necessary either. But with TSW and GW2 there does seem to be a trend that leans towards giving players the option to slip between those roles. SWTOR's rumored dual-spec function might be the result of this trend. Originally i imagined that spec changes should only be done out side of fight or before the beginning of an op. But maybe allowing players to switch roles on the fly isn't such a bad idea either. Especially if that flexibility opens up more potential PVE mechanics such as a boss encounters that requires the groups to switch between different ratios of Tanks/DPS/healers.
  9. Boom. Ask and you shall receive. 4 slots to all preferred players after the next patch. Someone IS listening.
  10. Doesn't have to be a whole novel, but a few lines to give some of the rarer cartel pack items some background. An example could be a few lines explaining how the darth Nilius mask is a replica or some sci-fi mumbo jumbo to explain how "invisible armor" came about and works. These explanations can be unlocked in the players codex upon binding and would give a new aspect to the collection of rare items
  11. I'm guessing that it'll be a part of the 1.7 patch. If they're sticking with their 6 week plan will be a few weeks into January. Maybe not exactly a year from launch but close enough.
  12. eh? Someone must be mistaken. And since he was just sitting at the Austin meet and greet I'm going out on a limb and guessing that Dallas is still with BW http://www.darthhater.com/articles/swtor-news/22405-community-cantina-tour-austin-notes-and-audio
  13. Hmm true. 2 a year would seem somewhat skimpy. Although i wouldn't really know what an acceptable rate of new OPS would be. I don't run operations very often, I haven't even seen explosive conflict yet. Having a new story chapter every 6 months would be satisfactory to me, however. Sprinkle in some new mini-games here and there and i'll be pretty satisfied.
  14. Would the OP NOT play if new story content came out a few months late?
  15. Woah, man. I didn't think they'd get 1.6 up until AFTER Thanksgiving. They also surprised me with how early 1.5 hit the PTS. This is turning out to be a nice trend of pleasant surprises. What I'm most excited about is what comes after 1.6. Because of the things mentioned at E3 a few months back only Makaeb hasn't rolled out yet. Since update 1.4 we've seen: An Operation (1.4) -> daily/companion (1.5) -> Warzone/space (1.6) -> Newplanet (with possible new story???) Does it make sense that this pattern should repeat itself every 6-7 months? If so, i'm excited.
  16. This is indeed a design if it works out well. But i have to wonder if subbed players will be properly motivated to put mundane stuff like character unlocks up on the GTN. Especially for the more expensive stuff like the section X unlock, would a subbed player be willing to spend 600 cartel coins for a chance of selling it for at most 350k creds?
  17. I'm grasping at straws myself. But given their rounds of layoffs and the F2P transition, i'm willing to hold onto the hope for a little while longer. If i were to throw out some wild speculations. I'd say that the new on-rail space mission will come out with 1.6 along with the new PvP map. Shortly after that should be that 1 year anniversary of launch - That'll be a REALLY good time to announce a Space expansion... IF they have one, of course.
  18. I've given my own interpretation of what they said on a few other treads already this morning, but i'll go a head and repeat myself here too: The speaker (i think it was Dallas) mentioned new space content coming "soon'ish" I believe that's the new on-rail missions shown at E3. Then it was hinted that new content that "[they] think we'll all be happy with" is coming some time after that. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the SSSP that no one's talking about.
  19. I'm just happy they (sorta) confirmed the super secret space project is still being worked on. Listening to the audio again it sounds as if the new space content that is coming "soon'ish" are the new on-rails missions that were advertised during E3. what's more encouraging is that content that is supposed to come after that. The stuff that Dallas thinks we'll "all be very happy with" Yes, I know i'm reading WAAAAAYYYYY into some very vague statements, but a man's gotta be delusional about something.
  20. They mentioned that they're still working on it during the meet and greet in Austin last week. Answers were predictably vauge with new info coming out "soon'ish". and that "[they] think we're going to like it" http://www.darthhater.com/articles/swtor-news/22405-community-cantina-tour-austin-notes-and-audio Edit: listening to the audio feed again: additions to the space game that are coming "soon" are probably referring to the new space missions mentioned at E3. However, they also hinted at something else coming down the line after that, which i assume is the SSSP. Also, there was some dude named "Ross" that apparently has info on the space game that we're not supposed to know about. Mysterious. I speculate that if they really have a super secret space expansion in the works, they'll probably announce it shortly after releasing 1.6 which is approximately the one year anniversary of the game.
  21. Bring back perma companion death, yes that's been up here before. Replacing a dead companion with a generic helper has also been suggested here in these forum The twist? give us an option to replace that dead companion with an AI controlled version of our alts! Makes sense if that alt is listed as an ally under the legacy tree.
  22. Heh, thanks. I'll try that. to think of all the sarcastic clapping i've missed out on.
  23. Yes, I understand that this restriction only applies to free players and not subscribers. That was not what i was asking about I wanted to know if free players without a licence are restricted from equipping purple items they bought off the GTN. If this is the case, then almost all avenues to purple lvl stuffs are cut off and I can't help to worry about Pay 2 Win shenanigans. HOWEVER. If those free players can use purples off the GTN, then it would seem to me that that would be the only place free players can get their artifact quality goods and Bioware could be using this licence restriction as a very clever way of driving up demand for end game crafting.
  24. I understand that artifact quality story and PVP items cannot be equipped with out it. Would this include items bought from the GTN as well?
