  1. If i knew who you where id buy you a drink, and your game... Good to see people like you exists.
  2. **face hits palm** Compared to TOR your customization options are light years broader. What alot of people dont realise with sPvP vids is, you all get a specific looking set of armor colored to your team. In PvE and WvW your visual uniqueness is HUGE... unlike TOR, which reminds me more of EQ1 where you pick a premade face and every robe or piece of armor is identical to the last.
  3. The Op is comparing a GW2 guardian to a mara... a heavy armor using support orientated (yes its not really support but it synergies well with the support role) to a medium wearing heavy dps class like the mara? Simply because they both make bubbles? And the Guardians health DID go down on a regular basis... i know mine died enough pretty quickly in stress tests. Whats the purpose of this thread again?
  4. There is nill RP on Gav Daragon (But some guilds have a rare small event once in a blue moon... last one I went to was a good 4 months back), I started out there on day 1 simply because I tend to go to RP servers given their civility tends to be better. Id say the vast majority of the GD would want or be positive towards a merge. Although might not go down with some of the hard core raiders, but even they are basically running on empty (most of us have alts to fill raid spots, hell my old guild I was in was regularly gearing up Alts for days when tanks and healers wherent online, and that was months ago) its like some wraped incestuous relationship half the time. Oh and to have actual back to back wz pops again during the day like the first month... and best of all, No more Sunguard in every damn match! actual PvP variety of opponents. Unfortunately i wont be around to see it, but it would revitalize GD big time and make a big improvement on the communities (after playing a little on Droogas pleasure Barge going back to GD and seeing 20 on fleet around peek or using the GTN was eye opening and very depressing). Id happily loose character/legacy names to see it happen.
  5. Its odd finding this, since I read this after noon something I hadn't really thought of. The actual cost for running and maintaining servers in things like MMO's is more or less none existence relatively speaking, im talking like under 10k a year. Which begs the question... WHAT does the sub fee actually get used for? Content Development?, on a game like TOR we sure havent got out moneys worth thats for sure and it kinda makes me feel ripped off. Someones getting a HUGE amount of cash once all the wages/bills are paid... even with the lowish sub numbers in TOR. Definitely not money well spent for sitting around on fleet for large stretches of time or repeating the same old same old over and over every week. I dont like F2P, but there is no reason for us to pay a sub or at least a sub at the price its currently at, at all.
  6. The Oceanic servers need it badly, on my server we end up fighting the same TS premade in fully modded WH Imp top team every couple night in normal WZ's. Pugs get stomped a few times, que's stop for an hour or so... rince repeat, might get a few balanced matchs against any normal imps that que up but usually which ever side gets stomped twice first stops queing if they think its just gonna be steam rolling. Ranked wz's are pretty much a rare occuance unless its organised between teams. And because of the population theres only ever enough for 1 maybe 2 match ups in the 50's at a time. So when it starts to pop you can pretty much know immediately who your gonna be playing against all night. With out X server, its slowly killing PvP for us and its just dribbling along. But im sure cross server ques options will be coming to a Cash Shop near you!.. doesn't bother me im gone in under 24 hours. Personally think they've conveniently forgotten it, ie if no one asks about it we'll keep it on the back burner till its dead and well forgotten.
  7. Some what ironic statement there... Light Sabers, Personal Shield generators, sorcs throwing lightning bolts all around... Mirialans(sp) for green orcs, jk. GW2 has rifles and pistols so cant say that guns are uniquely swtor. SW isnt sci-fi, its sci fantasy and as such its borderline high fantasy... good lord its got Knights and Sages in robes
  8. What?, with the recent stress tests where they roll out hot fixes and patch things in as you play or forcing a quick client reset... heck yesterday All 'leap' abilities killed the character who used one when you arrived at your target ... it was hot fixed and patched in within an hour or so. Now if that was TOR, you'd have to wait a few days, or have a 4 hour downtime to get it all fixed... and then you'd find something else got broken in the intervening period. Now if TOR had and used its PTS like a PTS is supposed to be used... GW2 is surprisingly NOT buggy, and it hasnt even launched yet. TOR STILL has bugs in it that cropped up months back and some that have never been addressed at all.
  9. I can agree with that observation, its a pitty, although Im staying very optimistic (granted I was like that with this game). Im and old DaoCer so i have fairly specific desires and requirments, which colors my views on such things greatly (and which GW2 delivers perfectly)... Warhammer had potential but failed to reach it, and ended up trying to pander to the new-geners that flocked in from WoW only to stick there pre conceived ideas on mass onto the game which the devs blindly went along with. Thankfully, GW2 has that sort of ESport included (and it is rather fun) so hopefully there wont be a large ammount of cross contamination between the two. I would play swtor F2P... ONLY if what I earned and can play now wasnt locked from me, which unfortunately, they are... ive payed for it, earned it, as such I should have some benefit from that fact, not suddenly having a large portion of it taken away as some sort of punishment for my choices... and yes, id 1 up purchase new raids to continue with my guild or new WZ's when they come out... but only if I can F2P with what I currently have. WHich isnt gonna happen, and I dont like that one bit.
  10. Legacy after lvl 25 has no use, and valor... whats it good for? Valors capped at your Level pre 50, and for the most part all you have to do its win 5 or so wz's a level and you can keep yourself at cap all the way to 50. Nice idea, but it wouldnt rejuvante anything in my opinion .... now double WZ/BH coms weekends or 1 week every month that makes all OP's drop BH instead of Columi coms (with double BH com drops from EC) might do so... or a weekend where all regular FP's done through the GF give say 5 columi coms, similar to how HM FP GF does now, might.
  11. Never said it was, I just find it a might sight better than what ive been paying to play the last 5 months. Id happily pay for TOR and play GW2... but everything thats happening at the mo with TOR just puts payed to that idea Also anyone playing GW2 and not having a primary interest in PvP might be disappointed... it is after all PvP game first and a PvE game second. Kinda like saying with EvE what if you dont want to play a Null Space Mega Corporation,Economic, Criminal Empire simulator... we'll yeah, your destined for disappointment (As was I when I just had to farm lvl 4 missions in my caldari fleet com BS hour after hour to make isk for my GTC's) Knew i shouldn't have used the words fan boy (hate that word my self)... aint and never will be 'fanboi', but I am very excited through what experience of GW2 ive had so far (4 stress test). Compared to TORs current endgame after the last 8 months or so, its got an awe full lot more to do from the get go. Dont get me wrong, I kinda like TOR, its got aspects to it that are endearing despite its flaws... its just poked me and others a few to many times in the ribs the last month or so. As to the OP, i wouldnt trust a single word from the mouth of any one from EA's upper teir... im a man of principal, fair play and the like, even if I dont like the person im defending sometimes and everything ive seen them do and say over the decades disgusts me, and their just getting worse (for a small while they seemed to have learned their lesson and improved... didnt last long)... Bioware being assimilated into EA was my last 'benefit of the doubt', there wont be another.
  12. Im already gone, so this Makeb issue regardless of how it works out wont effect me but given how the forums are currently this particular video is rather apt. Jimquisition, Why Boycotts Fail Where Whining Tantrums Win While I agree with the guy, I personally think EA/Activision Bioware/Blizzard have become monsters in the guppy pool and the sooner they go belly up the better for the entire industry (Hey I loved Bioware and feel for its employees, Pre EA acquisition I bought alot of their stuff and it was heaven... but now its like a family dog you own who becomes dangerous, you just have to let them go). At least it appears whining has made SOME minor changes recently, or at least they've started caking their pants a little and pulling their thumbs out. Still think a mass boycott is needed, and given the way their going... it'll happen naturally. The industry needs a house clean, and its refreshing to see the majority wont stand for immoral or just dubious business practices... regardless of how legal or acceptable it might be in a capitalist system. Ps:- If there are any EA apologists or people who want to see a little more of EA, take a look at Jimquisitions other few vid rants about EA, might open your eyes. Dont have to agree with him, but might clear up why alot of us have no real hope or trust for this game with EA as its task master. yeah i bought the game, but hey i thought Bioware... must have some clout in this partnership so its all good. I was an optimist
  13. Not sure if im seeing things (might be the fact I was in the GW2 stress test this morning and it runs a little poorly for me so it scewed my perspective), but I typically run Swtor on every thing Low, bar Shaders and Texture Atlas on High. No Bloom, Anti-Aliasing, shadows etc. Well I was running around today on fleet and thought to myself after seeing something, Wonder what that looks like with every thing turned on High. so I ramped up textures to high, turned on bloom and hit apply. Hmm I said to myself, odd feels alot smoother. I pop up the fps and notice its running a good 10+ and in some places 20+ fps faster than it used to under the same settings. I bump up shadows and get the old fps, although it was slightly more improved over before (which I go back to disabling shadows)... So did they do some major optimizing this patch?, since bloom seems to have a huge reduction in impact for me now, and even high textures doesn't seem to tax me like it used to (even though I still have odd low res mip mapping on things like neon signs that take ages to update to high rez as i get closer to them, some times they never display the right res no matter HOW close i get to them). So has anyone else found their FPS alot better with high settings compared to a day ago?.. If like me you have a old machine, give it a go, might be surprised. And as a note, i run with an old 512 meg HD3870 and a 2.4 ghz Core 2 Duo. or is it all subjective?... Although I can honestly say the fps numbers ARE far higher than in the past with higher settings, hell i can even PvP with them and its as playable as it was with low settings, where before it wasnt playable at all if boom was on.
  14. They did, but there short term contracts are all up, their just in between waiting on the new batch to arrive in the mail from india unfortunately for us this lull in talent falls around the new current deployment of super fast content updates so Bob from the coding team was put in charge of new teir armor design, he's no modeler but hes a fine hand at PS... I kid, or do i?... at leat Bob gets to do something before his contract also expires. So there is positives!
  15. Ive seen people say this, but I personally think it'll run differently. I like TOR's pvp, even though its damn repetitive, it does have a draw factor to it and its pacing is good, and i even like raiding (havent done EC and wouldnt mind giving it a go, done all the other HM ops)... thing is, ive played the last 3 GW2 stress tests and after each one and especially the last one they had just yesterday (even though I got to play all of 1 hour out of the 4 on offer) Ive logged in only for about 10 minutes in SWTOR since yesterday morning and done basically nothing, and every time I think of popping into SWTOR I just think.. 'meh, why bother?", hell cant even be bothered with the event (What a disaster that is). And you have to realize GW2 runs kinda poorly on my machine compared to TOR, so if a total of 5 sporadic hours over the coarse of 2 weeks playing PvE and PvP in a beta engine GW2 can make me shrug and say, why bother logging into SWTOR at all for the last week and a half my accounts got left, I can say those who are gonna play both WILL eventually drop their TOR sub and just give up on it, sooner rather than latter... Unless theres actually something of worth coming in TOR, unfortunately.... it seems to little, to late, and far to spread out. And taking every thing that could have been a single content patch and splitting it up to seem like regular content smacks of audacity in the same vein as first Day DLC (Sure its not charged, but still is a cheap cheap tactic on their part).
  16. Well you got a laugh outta me ... Wookie Cookie for you.
  17. Its all just psycho babble PR talk, since using the word 'fan', you remove any and all implications and obligations the word 'customer' intones. 'Fans' love new SW themed pets and speeders instead of new OP's, WZ's and FP's, after all fans are fans, they'll take any scrap that falls from the table and hump it into the floor... 'Customers' usually dont, since they clock content mileage against there dollar. Their doing interviews with a guy whos only been there since May? Wonder who will replace this guy as the next ummming and ahhhing interviewee in 3-4 months time. And as to them having to ask there teenage kids about how things work (I read that more as an 'mmo' thing instead of a 'sw' thing, although either is pretty damn shocking really) no wonder the game is as it is... really. Just more stuff to make me feel even better about already cancelling my sub.
  18. For me its all psychology, If you have left and mid, and mid has say 5 people (3 of em roaming where needed), and left has 2 or 1 and left hasnt been hit for a good few minutes or not at all sending out 1 (and I do mean only 1) person to right CAN mentally throw the other team into confusion, enough to stop them doing a 7 or even 8 man hit on mid or left or doing a 3-4 on mid and left, which CAN turn the tide of a fight if it succeeds (Ive been in a few pugs where a simple faint followed by a mass hit on a node has resulted in retaking 2 nodes or even the odd 3 cap after it throws the other team into a mess). To me its more about keeping the pressure up, most players arent very clear on their incs, a player will either call inc when dead or simply yell "inc snow!" even if theres just 1 attacker coming, this is enough to hopefully draw away 1-3 other attackers that could possibly turn the tide somewhere else thanks to poor intel (hence why you should ALWAYS give a number in your incs, even though often in pugs it'll still make half your team come running)... if you keep sending 1 player to their single node they HAVE to keep at least 2 people at it or possibly loose it. And on that note, id say the only people who should be the harasser are stealthers or Pyro/Assualt troopers/BH's, I say this because stealthers create panic, im sure we've all done it while D'ing a node and suddenly boom your hit out of no where, admit it you often panic, and you often dont know how many other stealthers might be around. I also say Pyro/Assualts because there highly mobile and (from my own personal experince) can take on 2 at once for a decent amount of time if played well. Yesterday in a CW I spent the entire game hitting right on my scoundrel, id often kill 1 of the 2 defenders and would draw off at least 2 others from those going to mid. Using one player to pull and keep 4 other players to a place on the map away from your nodes is a very strong defensive measure. That being said, it should only ever be 1 player (or maybe 2 stealth) since any more and you do start to hurt your own ability to defend against a 6-7 enemy attack at say mid or left (from under). Also one ting I learned (and I had never thought of it before) was taking left and right allows you to defend alot faster since the speeder to those sides is quicker than to mid. Ultimatly to me, variety is the winner, if they dont expect whats coming, even if its half assed it can still work
  19. Errrr each profession can have 2 weapon sets at a time to swap between while in combat (some professions can only have a single weapon set like Elementalists and Engineers but they have secondary mechanics that make up for that fact, such as elementalists being able to attune to one of the 4 elements, each element having its own set of skills depending on which weapon your running with at the time so in total say a staff elementalist has around 28 skills to work with through attunement swapping. And you DO have to attunement swap to be effective), each weapon set has its own unique set of skills tied to it and each profession can learn all the skills for all the weapons it can wield... You can respec outside of combat at any time for no cost allowing you to change on the fly for any situation you need. So yeah, 7 skills only huh... yeah pull the other one. Does gear matter in GW2 for pvp, sure its got some impact, but nothing like the WH/recruit/BM gap... not even close... hell in GW2 the only equipment that has any impact on your PvP stats is your amulet, none of your other gear gets factored in. So hows that for innovative, your pvp stats are derived from a single piece of gear that follows a very rigid stat progression aimed at specific traits, ie want to go with a condition build?... get the condition build amulet, now compared to other condition build players it comes all down to skill since your amulet is more or less identical to theirs. Not to mention proper objective warfare with supply systems in place means everyones got some use even if its just to man the anti infantry siege, or attacking a supply post to deny the enemy supplies for siege and defense upkeep. Cant wait, and yes... ive unsubbed already, and yes, I actually LIKE PvP in swtor (sub 50 mostly, nothing like going from WH to recruits to make you realize just how broken the gear gap is in post 50), hell as a lvl 10 fresh Scoundrel i was killing level 30s+ in my greens... so no gear hasnt got a huge advantage in sub 50s' gives you an edge, but it aint god mode.
  20. With a feather duster it might be dull but you can have 'fun' with it... doing so with a spoon tends to hurt a little. Once you've hit the wall in this game or come to certain realizations it really does become kinda painful to continue with it.
  21. I did... Thing is, even though hes quite aggressive, hes also quite right in many of his observations. That being said ill say to number 18(?) about reused 3d assets... this is standard practice, its modular construction and helps cut down on the footprint a world or area would have, granted what Bioware have done with their module assets isnt all that good and what you have is the entire world or area has a very samey look to it, where if they mixed assets up a little bit more you could get the 'theme' of a place going, with out it becoming a washed out monotony (Corelia im looking at you)... all that being said, modular assets are supposed to improve performance (thanks to instances of a building or parts of a building being cached for quick retrieval and keeping the polygon and texture footprint low), but thanks to Biowares poor programming of the at that time incomplete Hero Engine or what ever reason, even with modular assets it can drag the performance down into the gutter... Why is the default draw distance so damn far away? (oh thats right if its to close you start to see black areas in the sky box since it seems most of the skyboxs havent got a colored floor plane to them to allow them to blend in with the distance fog) or its because not seeing fps crippling vistas (that shouldnt really be that crippling) goes against the Bioware artistic vision... Why when i set my texture level to high do all the emmissive sign textures drop to the lowest Mip Map level regardless of the distance they are rendered from me, yet when textures are set to low they work fine? (lots of other odd graphic issues like that in this game)... why in a game with no dynamic daynight system are all environmental shadows not baked to improve performance?
  22. Have you actually played the game?.. from what ive seen in youtube reviews and blogs its a complete and utter piece of trash, i mean come on... the graphics (The animations make EQ:Shadows of Luclins animations look like motion capture), the gameplay, the gui, all of it so poor. The only thing ill say looked decent was the voice acting... But hey look at how that inovative idea turned out for SWTOR, sure gets old fast... spacebar spacebar spacebar. Anyone who has some indication that the Secret World is good in one of their posts hasnt got a leg to stand on when critiquing the quality of a MMO.
  23. At least this clears up the one worry I had, even still I most likely wont be resubbing or even playing f2p once my sub ends or f2p comes. Thing is, can we trust Bioware to get this done right given the buggy as hell track record of them breaking things every time they fix something (and they wont be fixing anything this time but sticking in a new system into an old one)... I foresee many angry forum posts (oh wait f2p players cant post) about having items go missing due to the wonderful coding of Biowares programmers.
  24. From what I can tell on my server (Gav Daragon) there are a decent number of us who are moving to GW2 on rep side, and from word of mouth it seems the mega guild (that does alot of PvP and are particularity good, almost 60% of imps in WZ's are from the guild) on Imp side is gonna loose a decent chunk to it as well, which will effect PvP quite significantly... que times will go up (already long as it is), but the imp skill base will drop meaning no where near as many steamrolls for the reps, but it'll just be a reverse of whats happened the last few months, the imps wont que after reps steamroll them. Not to mention in my guild alone (not really a big one) we've had a few unsubb the last few weeks due to boredom or anger at issues in the game. Where a small server to begin with and id say we will and have lost quite a few very recently just going on fleet population numbers, WZ/GF que times (and I play quite a long time through out most days and when im bored I play the /who game). Heck we've had to consolidate a few guilds the last week since non of them could sustain themselves normally. That being said, I have noticed a good number of new players. So who knows, the lose might be made up with gains. But it has and or will effect our server, just have to wait a bit to see if it'll get worse. My sub runs out 3 days after GW2 headstart so ill definitely pop in game to see just what sort of impact its had (which will be significant in my opinion). Sure what ive said isnt really about F2P but I think the announcement will and has push many on the fence players away that would otherwise have stayed around a little longer... I know it was the catalyst to make me unsub the day I heard about it.
  25. Im a Gunslinger, Only done LI twice, failed the first go and got to the end on the second. First go i was with a vanguard (tank), commando (healer), Sentinel and me. We wiped about 6 times before we gave up on the Droid, we all knew roughly what the mechanics where but it just went no where. Second run though it was me, a sage (healer), Gaurdian (tank) and a scoundrel (dps) all on TS. Besides me only the scoundrel had done it before all the way through, the others it was first time. Basically the way we did it was where I ranged dps sat as close to the fire grills near the door as i could get, the sage and scoundrel started on the left-hand tank area and the tank stayed in the middle with the droid the entire fight. Tank taunted and interrupted incinerate as where i was the droid was just out of range for using my interrupt, if the tank moved even a little backward it would end up out of range so relying on me to interrupt was far to risky (tank interrupting is by far the best way). I was more or less dpsing the droid solo while the sage and scoundrel made sure to cleans and heal, the scoundrel was able to XS the adds when needed sicne they all tended to attack them ratyher than any one else while I XS'd the Droid and because of aggro it was the the scoundrel and sage that always ended up being the location of the plasma ball at which point they would run to the right side and continue from there (Our scoundrel mentioned that it drops the lightning balls on top of the healers... not sure if this is fact). This way we beat the droid extremely easily, granted my task was pretty easy and i dont think I got damaged at all except for once or twice when i over burned and had to drop aggro, but I just used a medpac, i didnt even have to move the entire fight. The others had a much hard task running around the place. Sav-Rak was a complete doddle, and Lorik we wiped once, but compared to the droid he's a piece of cake (Our tank was doing the strafe side step avoidance tactic on Loriks aoe cone, although our wipe happened when while dodging healer got hit by the aoe cone) as a ranged dps the only boss I felt uncomfortable with was Sav-Rak since I had to run to him further than the rest before he jumped... but really i didnt have to be that far from him in the first place, just old habits, he was still damn easy regardless. But yeah, tank interrupts best, their interrupt is on a smaller cool down to gunslingers/sniper anyway... also they dont have to worry about channeling or casting an attack when incinerate cast bar pops up, since you cant really use interrupt while channeling and have to get up and move to cancel the channel which can delay it for a fraction of a second to long and miss. Edit:- forgot to mention, I was in WH with 3 pieces of BH. Rest of my group was in Columi with various pieces of Rakata/WH/BH.
