Space Combat..even a shooter like Halo does it better?

Yeah because 6 years development and $130million is not enough to add features that have already done before in less development time & with less of a budget....

Except they have been working on the ENTIRE GAME for 6 years on that budget. You can't just google "Space Combat +"not on rails"" and implant in something that somebody else did.

It would take their own programmers to make something that some games use as their single feature.

It's a ridiculous assumption that this is just some feature that can be thrown into any game.

What people who say this don't realize, is that video game companies are competitors... they don't call up their business competition and say "Hey, can we get your coding for this feature? Thanks". Not only do companies not share their features, it is neither easy to code these large-scale games (even if they've been done before in the industry), nor is it a good practice to completely copy another company's style.

Yes, its a rail-shooter, and that is in no way totally original and unique. However, for it being a side-feature of the game, they made a rail-shooter that feels right for the aesthetic and cinematic nature of SWTOR, making a style of mini-game that is in no way original, feel unique to this game. I appreciate space combat as it stands. Would love to see it expanded in the future, but for a 2.5 week old game, it is right where it should be.

So level up and get more of them. Not only that, the older ones have new bonuses the higher level you are, that give you ship upgrades ETC......

Nevermind, your post obviously wasn't serious.

Actually, I was serious. The "new" quests are the same exact quests with different names and a higher difficulty. Maybe I'm missing something. IDK.

I love the space combat. On the highest quality settings it's actually pretty beautiful, and the rail system doesn't bother me at all. I'm a pretty hardcore FPS guy, so I was burning through level 20 missions at level 15 with no upgrades / issues but that's what I like about it. It's a casual shooter.

I treat my ship like a haven where I can go and relax, talk to companions, plan on my next move, send peeps on crafting missions and blow up some ships in the process. Good times.

You should think of the Space Combat more like an arcade game on your ship and less like some epic space adventure. You'll appreciate it more.

Well, in that case.....

If you wanted to go that far I might give you that the objectives may be similar but they are not the same. Thats an exaggeration.

And playing the older missions with the new objectives can be quite challenging, I've found.

But hey, if you aren't sold on it, you always have the option to uh.. not do them. Pretend they don't exist, nothing to see here... move on.

I like em. Between that and PVP I get distracted for hours. I've played games I bought for 50 bucks for less time than I've done space combat. And this is original release. Arkham city comes to mind.....

But I digress!

You're not missing something, Each type of mission (escort, base assault etc) is identical the only difference is the stuff takes 3 or 4 beam hits more to kill depending on difficulty.

Highly unoriginal & repetitive, only reason I do them is for fleet comms & the rewards because they're short and incredibly easy

3rd person shooter on rails is fine for a mini-game. I do hope eventually space combat gets extended to have a mode that is more like the old X-wing vs TIE Fighter series of games.

It would be awesome to have group missions like that.

for real, x-wing and tie fighter were some of the first games i had on a pc, and they were great. if they did it damn 15+ years ago, they can do it today.

Its in the name.. STAR WARS... yet the STAR WARS part of it is a joke and its on rails..

I've said this many times but the Space section is EXACTLY WHAT YOU SEE IN THE MOVIES. So how is it a joke? Did you see Luke Skywalker flying off to some random location during the assault on the death star, or did he fly in formation towards it and then down that trench?

This style may not be what you want it to be but it is the closest thing to the cinematic experience.

This is, hands down, the most hotly debated topic in this game over the last year.

For some reason, I don't know why, some people think space combat should just be a mini-game like sabbaac or pazaak, a distraction.

Others, like myself, feel that space combat was way too awesome in the movies to have it tacked on as a distraction.

We will never agree.

Funny thing though. Over a year ago, before they announced what the space combat was going to be, they conducted an online poll on what type of game should space combat be like. Less than 2% picked "Starfox 64", over 50% picked 3D space sims. Just wondering where all these ravenous Starfox fans suddenly came from?

So glad people on the forums are only 10 percent of the people playing the game. I was completely surprised that space combat was included (admittedly didn't follow the dev of this game that much and didnt get to lvl 15 during beta) and happy to play it. Great change of pace from normal MMO stuff.

*Edit* if they flesh it out during the on going production of this game, even better

I love people who compare TOR space combat to Halo Reach. It reminds me of when Halo Reach was coming out and everyone kept saying "BE MORE LIKE THIS."

In the Old Republic I killed between 75 and 150 things on a space mission that takes about 10 minutes.

In Halo Reach if I'm actually paying attention I spend about 20 minutes to kill less than half that many things.

Feel a lot more ****** in Star Wars than I did in Halo.

not really... maybe you're too low level, but when you get arround 27+, the "new" missions are the exact same quests of the first two, same objectives, planet, enemies, route, everything, with different names and tougher enemies... just wait and you'll see :)
